Today my wife got this device as a gift for Christmas. She asked me to look at it and set it up for her. After about an hour of research I was deeply disappointed by the fact that this device has no ROMs or Kernels and barely supports ROOT. The device is kind of slow for 2013 due to its one core 1GHz processor. But I am sure this issue would be fixed with optimizations from custom ROMs and Kernels. I myself am not an android developer but do some coding in the free time and worked on a few ports of sense for several devices. On this thread I would like to get as many developers possible with the Asus MeMO Pad to communicate and collaborate to develop a working port of CyanogenMod for the device. I will be happy to help anyone interested in this project by doing some work in the free time. I chose CyanogenMod as it is probably the easiest one to compile and is much simpler than its competitors. If we get a successful build of CM then we can move on to developing Kernels and more complex versions of Android. Keep in mind that this is not a request for any particular developer but just an invitation to collaborate and build a working ROM for this tablet. If you are interested in working with me on this project please PM me or comment down below. I will be glad to help as much as I can. Thank you to all of the developers that would be willing to participate in this project.

I did the AMPC app and mini rom (not a full rom but more mods collection)
How are you skills to decompile img ?? since the guy who did root before is no more...and we should start by doing root for latest FW.
and CWM is also very buggy (build using online kitchen)
Please feel free to PM me
I'd like to but I don't know android coding. I do some basic Java programming if that helps

Hi! I'm the guy that made CWM for this tablet, as well as the one on whos idea the whole root thing is based I'm very glad that someone picked up work on this tablet and is trying to make it better, since I don't have the time and I've lost my patience since ASUS is refusing to co-operate as far as updates and source codes are concerned. You can always PM me with questions as well as all or any info you have and I'm also willing to test builds out. Thanks

Hiya @nerotNS, I'm currently new (a noob) at xda-developers forum but since I'm actually getting a memo pad what better way of installing cyanogenmod properly than asking for help. However I couldn't help but to find the source code, and I did. I'm currently still learning so the source code wouldn't be of help to me than it would to you. So that said, heres the source

Hmm that's the kernel source code, we already have that Though it was in a bit of a strange format, plus I firmly believe that it's outdated as I think ASUS made some changes in the kernels via OTA. Thanks for your tip though,it's good to see that someone's trying to do with this pad

Lets do this.
I started looking at it this morning and they are releasing a porting guide tomorrow morning. I've already unpacked the images for the manta (nexus 10) and began poking around. I think we can successfully do this....since we've already got an armhf version started we could port just the interface and modules over on the base we already have.
I'll make a thread in the dev section as soon as I get more information and possibly a compile job started.

It would be very nice to see a port to the TF101 of this project. If the standard Ubuntu ARM release has been ported I hope it will be feasible for the Touch release as well.
Trying to port.....
Hello all! I have the tf101, and have tried the porting guide, but is says that it is not supported.... any ideas for workarounds?

from what im reading if the device has a cyanogenmod 10.1 rom officially or unofficially then we should be able to port it im working on it myself as well, im not sure we have 10.1 tho i know we have CM10 just not sure about 10.1 but if it can be done it will be. we already have CM10 and we have 4.2.1 jellybean so i would think CM 10.1 is possible and therego ubuntu touch....id be willing to bet that if you give it a week or 2 the dev section will be graced with a port.
EDIT: update there is a ew CM10.1 rom up now and that will open the way for this to be ported...just saw it in dev section...maybe a few days rather than weeks the porting guide is rather straightforward and theres not much to it...its really a glorified theme just running in a container on top of android even using the android video, audio, and other hardware HALS and libs(i do believe) i am only a beginner developer so dont quote me completely...

Won't it have to be an official 10.1 CyanogenMod build? Last I check (5 minutes ago) they only had CM10 on the TF101? It could technically be done with an unofficial rom but it would make it a lot harder than you suggest. Please see the CyanogenMod Device Info (sorry I am a new user so I can't make the link click-able wiki (dot) cyanogenmod (dot) org/w/Tf101_Info ).

Maybe somone else gets in this situation. i guess my mistake has been wiping system completly with cwm-touch
anyway, anything has been in internal Storage seems to be lost.
Now i flashed RogueXM Touch v1.5.0-R1 with easyflasher, in after booting into it i were able to access Android images placed on my MicroSd.
At least CM10.1 is booting now.
until i get my 10 posts ill post here
i sort of got ap scanning working, i messaged jholtom already how i did it. it involved some manual manipulating, next i try to sort it out
and again...
i have modified rc script to include my "fixes", resulting in working wifi. i will push my changes so it can be used anywhere. to setup the network connection i used phablet-network-setup included in built tools to copy the wifi settings from my laptop. keyboard still isnt useable.
here is the result:
youtu .be / KHpHp21aylU
the browser feels quite fast
and this is the install log from ssh server:
pastebin .ca / 2327138
again i am not allowed to post urls :/

Hey guys, We are going to try something new for our china phones - cyanogenmod.
But we need some more devs to get everything going.
For now we have:
-Github tree for Lenovo P700i(mediatek 6577, android 4.0.4, kernel 3.0.8)
-Lens_flare - original port author(may work with system folder and configs)
-some kernel source from other devices like liquid gallant
The main problem is getting adb to work that could help a lot on remaining development. For now even zygote not starting, but all partitions seems mounted successfully.
We need more devs (especially that could assemble working kernel for device), working with p700i may lead to following porting for other mtk devices, as sources are nearly the same.
ᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗᗗ

Nopes! I am not making a CM Kernel instead directly building CM9! The Prebuilt Kernel will boot CM9! Though.... @DanceOff was also working to get CM10.1 Booting :cyclops: Now, That he knows about already available CM9 Sources we could get CM9 Booted first then think about fixing bugs etc. Plus, Most of the people are ready to sacrifice 1 sim to get a Working CM on their MTK Device

Its time to united whole developers... support and help cyanogen dev., instead of developing so-called ROMs..(everything is same features... so boared)

Hi Everyone,
CyanogenMOD would be an awesome accomplishment for these devices. Please try to stay on topic and not engage in petty disagreements. It is incredibly easy for a community effort to get derailed or fall apart. Remember, if you see something you don't like or disagree with, you can always ignore it or report it.
Thanks!

Well I am still working upon this matter in the background. Somehow I messed up my build environment and god knows why, my recovery builds aren't booting as seen on the thread even though my device trees are untouched. Will be starting cleanly once I finish my exams on 16 May.
And regarding CyanogenMod, I have made a pretty good progress here. I have been studying the android ICS sources since they were discovered. Till now I have succeeded to frontport the MTK Gemini support, FEATUREOPTION builder, MTK GPS, MTK Camera HAL to the AOSP 4.2. But all of them are untested because I don't have the device, everyone knows. For this purpose I am going to buy the upcoming Xperia C3, which upon using as a medium for testing I can do this stuff a bit faster which will be beneficial to all MTK devices throughout. I have more than 30 commit patchsets lying on my machine which I will outsource soon.
I will suggest to use AOSP as base for these experiments because its always good to understand the pure upstream code. Once we have done noticable progress here, we can diff and merge them in projects like CM.
Okay so I've bought a samsung galaxy chat B5330 device back in feb'2013. Don't ask me why cause I conciously bought it. So I realised after searching for 6 months that there is no interest of developers in this device. so I have taken up the initiative to 1) Build CM 10, 2) Port CWM, 3) Root the device myself. However I don't have much idea about building android. I've rooted and flashed Custom recovery n ROMs to my dad's phone before and I'm a geek so I learn things quickly about computers n phones. So I'm nor a complete newbie neither a Master developer. Therefore I need help of those devlopers who will be kind enough not to discourage me. Anyone can root a device which is more popular because it gets vulnarable too quickly so there is no point in telling me that "you should have bought a device which has developer support". I am interested to be a developer myself n that challenge is really so tempting to me. So here are my questions which I don't have exact idea about.
1) I have a computer of the config -> AMD fx 6100 hexacore buldozer 3.3 GHz/4 GB RAM/500 GB HDD/Windows7(32) & Ubnuntu 13.04(64). Can I do the job of building roms from the source with this config in the first place?
2) Does galaxy chat B5330 support 'fastboot'? if yes then How can I boot into fastboot mode? I've tried with adb 'reboot-bootloader' but the device just restarted normally. So I don't know How can I get into the fastboot mode?
3) CM developers are really kind enough that they have put alot effort into making the wiki. I've got precious informations about building android from source and all. But I have a confusion. There was mentioned fastboot is necessery for building CM. So if my phone does not have fastboot should it mean that I can't build CM for my device at all?
4) How much data do I have to download? Do I need to be connected to the internet always while editing local file? n If I use 'repo sync' to update the code always won't my editings get overwritten by stock code again?
so these are few basic questions I have for now. I know I might not get any response at all. But there's no harm in trying. thanks

I don't know whether some people are still talking about this device.
I thought everybody started throwing it and getting his newer one.

How did you manage to do that? You wrote to them and they gave it? If thats the case you must have some special powers. I'm impressed.

I've got a working CWM. Looking forward to porting a newer version.
I've got my hands on a working cwm (somehow it did) for b5330. Now looking forward to porting CWM 6 from cm source. I just have too slow bandwidth for cm source syncing. So let's see how it goes.

The best way to start is to use another Rom as base (get permission first) then start tweaking it with scripts, apps and build.prop tweaks. Once you start to get familiar with the basics, start experimenting with different tweaks. Since you are going to create a Cyanogenmod 10 Rom from scratch, I give you best of luck and hope many people will use it!
FINALLY!
ported
I always support you sir!

Hi,
I'm not a Dev but I know there are lot of people interested in modding around Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T53X and other version too.
I decided to create this bounty topic of reliable people who want to donate to a Dev who port Ubuntu mobile on Galaxy Tab 4.
As you know, Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 mount a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core 1.2GHz processor and 1.5GB RAM, so able to run Ubuntu Mobile. As You can see on Ubuntu Wiki, Ubuntu for devices is available to Galaxy Tab 7.7 (GT-P6800), Galaxy Tab 10.1 Wifi (GT-P7510), Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (p3110/p3113), Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 GSM (p3100), Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Wifi (P5110)....So please it's time to get it also on Galaxy Tab 4!
Want to partecipate? Write in comment how much you want to donate to any Dev could port Ubuntu Mobile to Tab 4, please write also your model (i.e. SM-T530).
Donations (26/06):
- Me, Maxximo88 20€ (SM-T530)
Total: 20€ (I will update it as soon as possible)
Once Ubuntu Mobile port is completed and posted we will wait for the dev or devs to specify how he/they want the money sent. Usually it is just a donation to their Paypal account or Bitcoin.
Current status:
Tag Developers so they are aware of this.
Ubuntu porting guide here:
- Installing Ubuntu for devices
I want to pay a beer to any Dev able to port Ubuntu Mobile on SM-T530!
I think some devs could be interested: @h2o64 @evilracer123 @will89 @jorgen_gustavsson @Starcarr

Earning money to work on an open source project... Isn't that a paradox?
XDA is community projects where many people make one thing. I don't think your offer has to be considered

Hi, thanks for your reply and to show your point of view.
I just know that lots of Devs works hard and some people uses their works even without click on "Thanks button"..
So, maybe, this could be a new way to pay back the hard work of Devs..
H,
hi, i've been tinkering and failing with ubuntu touch for a bit now
would you be willing to run me through a step by step on the build ?
I guess my main question is, in the build am i only constructing a "base" device specific image and then
dumping in the pre-built system or is there a process for building completely that i'm missing ?
Also how do i generate the correct installation script [rootstock] for my devices ? sm-t530nu sm-t330nu
both are qcom/msm8226 caf-kernel [wifi-only, no fastboot but adb via recovery seems to do]
i attempted modifying a few different script script but the install fails.
Am i following the normal cm11 build pattern from lunch, [mka recoverimage, mka systemimage, etc.,] ?
thanks.

ROM requests are not allowed. Also, if you want someone to build a ROM for you then you'll have to PM some developers here and ask them if they would be willing but you'll have to be willing buy another device like yours and donate that device to the developer. If you can't donate a device then you are wasting your time asking for a ROM.
If you can't or won't donate a device then you'll have to learn how to build ROMs for yourself. There are many guides for building your own ROM all over the Internet and there are many members here that have made their own recoveries and ROMs because their device was not supported by any developers.

As I'm in the same position with this phone I'm considering creating my own basic ROM for it. Although I'm good at IT in general I'm not a programmer or developer or Android expert so I'll need to ask one or two of my friends to help me with the compiling and makefile aspects of the task (according to a Youtube video).
My question is how much time my friends would need to put aside for this (as long as I do the downloading and use my PC to do all the compiling work).
I don't even want to ask them if it will take hours of their time.
dude it is not problem for me

Hours would be an understatement, more like days weeks or even months to iron out all the kinks.
