Hey guys, ive just received brand new Asus memo pad as a Christmas present! The thing is I had my Samsung galaxy s3 for quite some time and I really enjoyed it but since both of these systems are operating on android, I cannot seem but feel like I got something that I already have... I know the screen is bigger and it has a lilac more RAM and not to mention Quad core processor! Even my 3 year old laptop has dual core and I have no idea where the heck in the tablet you can use such a processor...
So my question is... is there any awesome stuff that I could use my tablet for, which I cannot use my phone with? And perhaps would it be possible to use some kind of software to boost my laptop's processor when connected to tablet??

Well basically you can enjoy playing games and watch videos even more on a tablet than on a phone.. And those apps that are optimized for Tablets only will take up your entire screen and make use of that by using it to display more texts and information.. And also there are some apps that are for Tablets only - so you can use them too.. And I think that's pretty much it..

Thanks for the reply, since you've mentioned that there are some appsnthat can only run on tablets, I was wondering could you actually name a few?
list of good tablet specific apps
as far as i get your query it is in relation to the abilities of a tablet as compared to a phone
a phone can do anything your tablet can do...but a tablet cant do the same
but.....
1. it has got a bigger screen size so better multimedia experience
2. in my experience a phone screen no matter how big (read less than 6 inches) always feels a bit cramped even when compared to a tablet with a 7 inch screen
3. you've got some great apps out there that look and feel better on tablets than phones
eg. office suite, netflix, kingsoft office, trulia
you wanted to know something you can do with a quad core processor
try these on a quad core and a dual core. you'll get to know the difference pretty fast-
mass effect, modern combat, real football, the dark knight, browsing the internet, watching shows and movies online etc etc
there's a lot to do on tablets
carry one to conferences. believe me it is better to use a tab in a conference than a phone

I have tried but all of these apps are not found on the google play store...
hmmmm...strange
it may be an issue of compatibility. go to www.play.google.com log in there and find these kinda apps. go to the install option, if these apps are compatible with your device you'll be able to send a link to the device. if not, then you can always find an apk here and there and then install them
but remember to pay for them, RESPECT DEVELOPERS ALWAYS
by the way, here and there refers to other app store for eg the amazon app store
good luck with the app hunting

if you can boost your laptop's performance with your tablet, then you should join Microsoft or intel, that should be some parallel computing technology enjoy you tablet with some fantastic games, i guess

Help needed!!!! I am really confused what to do , whether to buy a nexus s now or wait for dual -core phones .I just dont want to buy something for 20k that might be outdated soon.
Nexus s will pretty much run anything out right now.. Don't play the waiting game, get it if the price is right? It's technology.. Every few months there is newer and more expensive **** out
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
If you want to play the waiting game, wait for the next Nexus. I wouldn't ever buy or recommend a non-Nexus Android.

I love my Nexus. If you wait then you will still be seeing something else better come out in a few months. If you like the Nexus, then get it. If not then just wait it out.

Ya...thats what.Even i dont want to wait because my budget was around 18k, i stretched it to 20k(current price of nexus s in inr)...the budget is so strict that i cant even stretch it to buy sgs i9000(which i dont feel is worth buying when compared to nexus s)...and my requirement is that heavy (gameloft-ish)games should work smoothly ...which i think nexus s with its 1ghz humming bird procc & PowerVR SGX 540 would handle quite well atleast for an year or so ..and plus there is a chance that nexus s will be getting ICS ...so i think i should just buy it now ...and 20k for nexus s is a steal i think !
The nexus s is an awesome phone for the price now (320 € in Germany). I wouldn't spend almost twice as much for a double core.
Btw, I'm not sure where you're from but in the states when you say 20k that k stands for thousands. So $20,000 is a bit much for the Nexus S. I only paid $200 for mine

Gaming? Nexus S is never your wrong choice. Haha.
You can use Chainfire 3D on Nexus S to play Tegra 2 games,
you can overclock your phone using Trinity 1.576 kernel to maximize your game experience.
What more do you want when the 1.576 kernel give a same quadrant score (or even higher) than duo core phone such as Optimus 2x ang SGSII??
In conclusion, get me to help you when you got your nexus, I will give you all the necessary file/kernel/rom/apps for maximum gaming experience
I am a gamer (only when holiday,LOL) with 24 hours charging my phone
after personally trying both optimus 2x and atrix for more than 2 weeks each. " brother has atrix and i got optimus 2x from my friend to use it since he doesnt want it " got galaxy s2", i would go for nexus S
the reason is simple. this is all marketing bs. there is nothing that can run on galaxy s2 or atrix or optimus 2x that cant run on nexus S . everything runs perfectly fine on nexus S. no lag. perfectly fine.
the only thing that wont run are the nvidia games. but as far as i know. they are all been ported to other phones.
however. what broke it up was skype. to know that skype was released for video chat only on 4 phones and nexus is one of them. made me note something. i have to get that phone. not because of skype. but because clearly. its a dev platform. when skype tested their video call. they tested it on nexus. even with the mods. skype till now cant run video calls on optimus 2x and tegra. do to the fact tegra cant read some codes. i think mods are looking into it but i dont have high hopes at all. because this is not the first time dev get stuck on something like that. " same code "
if you are talking about dual core phones as galaxy s2. then this is another story.
GS2 is superior phone. there is no doubt about it. better and bigger screen. thinner, faster. but u will also get stuck with 2 things
- google updates... u wont get any till samsung give their blessing
- some problems running some games " again. some issue with reading codes. while this is being sported out by devs here, its still not perfect. "

where i can download chainfire 3d ?
also. i dont advise overclocking your phone. it shorten the lfie of your cpu/gpu.
i would definitely choose the Nexus S .. its a powerful beast ..
1, 1ghz processor is enough for everything
2, gpu 540 - can handle all the games - much stronger than the most used adreno 200 or 205
3, updates directly from google! - how fast your phone is depends also on the OS ..
4,you get comparable scores when you tweak your phone vs dualcores -sometimes even more
5,the chipset used in Nexus S has one of the best audio chips used in a device - regarding that Voodoo Sound - it seriously killed my ipod, my Hi-Fi at home .. i just use that ..
6, you want more? you can play 720p MKV on this hardware - you cant do that on most dualcore - coz they miss the hq mkv profile - diceplayer
7,skype video calls? here we go
8, NFC - the future is already there
u know google decided to make "the phone" and when they do one .. they mostly put all the best stuff into it from that "time frame" ..

I agree.
NVIDIA Tegra2 dual core : Video decoder is too bad...Hard to play H.264 High profile.
Snapdragon dual core : Video is not so good but can play 720p MKV using diceplayer.
Exynos dual core : GREAT Video decoder. it can play 1080p High profile.
if you have HDMI-out cable, your phone turn into video player.
I recently got the 7.0 plus as a late Christmas gift. I like the size of the tablet because it is nice and light and goes everywhere. However, I have a few cons that I am wondering if they are deal breakers for me.
The first is the lack of games that can be played on the 7.0 plus. I don't want my tablet to play games all the time but I was hoping to be able to play a few games (like riptide or asphalt6) and this tablet cannot play those types of games.
The second is that some tablet apps don't work on this device and I would guess that is because of the 7 inch size. I was hoping to mainly use the device to read news, magazines and books. I do not care too much about videos because I have a laptop that can handle all HD videos I throw at it.
I'm stuck between size, weight and portability versus games and proper apps. Does anyone know how the Thrive, Transformer or Samsung 8.9 tablet handle these things?
Thanks for any help
Have you tried Chainfire? This may allow you to play the games you mentioned. As far as the other apps are concerned, you may want to contact the developers. They may just need to update the app so it recognizes the 7.0 Plus as a tablet.
Keep in mind, this tablet is relatively new, and my guess is, many issues like this will be resolved in due time.

Agreed chainfire is about your only option right now. With that said the exynos chips are very very good....just give it some more time for the dev community to pick up.

I second what the posters above have already said. Chainfire 3D will allow you to play those games for now, but with time these games will be updated to work with the 7.0 Plus. The same goes for the tablet apps.
To answer your second question, the 8.9, (since it is Tegra 2) can handle everything you have discussed in your post, and it is closest in size to the 7.0 Plus of all of the tablets you have mentioned. If you like the portability of the 7.0 Plus, a move to the Transformer or the Thrive, (especially the Thrive as it is so thick,) will feel a good deal less portable.
My advice, (for what it's worth) would be to get chainfire3D for now to play the games and then stop using it or even get rid of it once the games have been updated for your tablet. The tablet apps will be updated, it will just take a few more weeks. (I seriously doubt it would take more than 3 more weeks for developers to update their apps.) I hope this helps. Have fun with your tablet.

HUH? Riptide works great even without chainfire. Asphalt 6 on the other hand is fairly new and still doesn't support our tablet officially. But there are some workarounds with that. (thanks to chrisrotolo for teaching me )
Well, I haven't really found any tablet optimized app that doesn't work on the GTab+. I think it is compatible with our device but maybe it's not available on your country?

I was messing around with the dpi and find if you change it to 132 if the app has a tablet optimized version it will show properly on the tab. Try it with the IMDB app you'll see what I mean.
Thanks for the responses guys! I tried riptide and it FC'd. I'm in America and the apps I was talking about is thinks like CNN Tablet Edition cannot even be installed. It says it does not recognize my device.
I will have to try chainfire and see how it works! Thanks again for the help
Actually, can anyone help me so I can get the games to work?
Hey guys,
So here's my dilemma. I was thinking of getting a netbook for professional purposes (word, mindmapping software and possibily vintage gaming) but I've com to the conclusion that most netbooks pretty much suck hardware-wise (can't even do HD video <.<).
So I took a look at both the Transformers, and with their keyboard dock they seemed like a perfect choice, for their size and usability.
However, the vintage gaming I'm looking for (that I'm willing to throw away at this point) was only available for Windows (mostly). So being that I'm possibly opting for an Android "tablet-book" I'm still wondering this:
Are the rumors that Windows 8 will be ARM-compatible and possbily will work on the Transformer Prime? If so I might get one. If not I'll possibly go for the original transformer. But that leaves me with another question:
Except for the quad-core is the difference from the Tegra2 to the Tegra3 really steep in terms of performance?
Thanks in advance,
K.
Dont hold your breath for windows 8. The rumor says its only going to be sold pre-installed on devices, and not available for download to other devices. And since it isnt open source, porting it to other devices would be quite tricky, and also piss microsoft off.
The Prime is faster, no doubt. But is it enough to justify the price differences? I dont think so.
The tegra2 can not handle 1080p movies. The prime struggles with them as well but can play most of them.
But in whole, it sounds like a tablet wont satisfy your needs, unless you got access to a windows PC you can use through remote desktop all the time.
A tablet can not replace a laptop/pc yet. They arent ment for that. Once win8 tablets start to mature, that might change. But that might take years.

Before anything thanks for the reply, every input is useful
The point is, I don't need it to substitute my desktop PC (I have a gaming rig, it would be impossible xD), I do need it to be able to work on documents on the go, read stuff, and browse the web like it was a netbook, but without sacrificing the abitity to watch video like I would have on a netbook.
In terms of gaming I only really need it to run all Android games flawlessly

That wont happen, for several reasons;
Gameloft, which has a big amount of good games, hardly supports the Transformers, forcing us to find the games by other means.
A lot of games is only coded for crappy phones with their low-res screens, making them unplayable on a tablet with a larger resolution.
If you want an android device that can play the majority of the games available, you're better of getting a high-end phone ... its a sad world we're living in...
That said, there is a lot of games available, but some takes a lot of time to find.
One example is Order & Chaos... It took me 2 weeks before I actually found a version that works on the TF101, and once gameloft decides to update the game - who knows how long it will take before it will work again.
We have a thread here that lists the gameloft games currently known to work on our TF101's. The list itself isnt updated in quite a while, but the last few pages lists some more games.
I think the Prime forum got a similar thread.

Thanks for the advice again
But honestly I don't play Gameloft stuff because I hate their shanenigans of making crappy coded games that don't even work the same on two phones with the same hardware.
I'm talking more about many of the indie games that have been popping up on the Market from Osmos HD, to Avadon and Canabalt among many others.
Its a hard choice but if you want gps and great wifi the original tf is the choice.
Documents on the go no problems for me.
If you root and use custom roms and overclock the performance difference at the moment does not justify the price.
Gaming thats a hard one some might say games dont work or hd games are usually released for the prime etc etc. But for me i play ps1 n64 gameboy etc with a ps3 controller on my tf101 i also play sims freeplay and a load of other games that i got direct from the market. You may not get all games but i think the best part of say 4-5 hundred games would be enough for anyone.
The ability to hook it up to the tv and play ps1 games with opengl (makes the old graphics look way better) alone makes it worth loving my android tablet.
Also when i had to decide between netbook and android tablet the winner for me was the tf101 because i can get 18hrs battery life most netbooks i have seen are lucky to last 6.

I can watch videos fine on my transformer (I'm not really an avid video watcher who can ONLY watch things in super super HD, seriously, 720 is really good on a screen this small). My tablet is very useful because I mostly browse, read pdfs, and take notes. Sadly, I find that I'm using the keyboard less and less, since the only time I really use it is when I have to type up reports, and latex works better with a bigger screen so I don't even use the keyboard much then..
1-What is point of buying FULL HD tablet and most the apps are not optimize for it..(Like the IPAD 3 there are a few apps that are optimize )
2-What is the point, every time i go GOOGLE PLAY to buy an app ,it is not compatible with my devices.
{Almost 90% of EA games and 90% of GAMELOFT games are compatible with my devices.}
What else i'm i missing........
MOD EDIT: REMOVED
This is the future of tablets along with 2gigs of ram like the Note 10.1. Eventually apps will be optimized for tablets and for higher res screens. Google has spoken out and said that they will focus on tablet apps optimization so its only a matter of time before most devs are on board. Yes many apps are not optimized for the FHD screen but I havent had any issues with all the apps Ive downloaded far and i already have about 150 apps installed. I dont know about you but I like knowing that my FHD screen tablet will still be valid in the coming years vs one with an aging lower res screen.

Not to worry new technology often has a away of finding it's place.

1-What is point of buying FULL HD tablet and most the apps are not optimize for it..(Like the IPAD 3 there are a few apps that are optimize )
2-What is the point, every time i go GOOGLE PLAY to buy an app ,it is not compatible with my devices.
{Almost 90% of EA games and 90% of GAMELOFT games are compatible with my devices.}
What else i'm i missing........

Text, which is used on ebooks, web browse, several games etc. But if you have Infinity or FHD device, just go use non FHD device now. You will immediately notice blurriness on texts. My eyes are bad, but even then I noticed the difference on my old iPad 2 after 2 weeks of Infinity.
The problem is that everything is made for the Galaxy. And we know all that has a resolution that looks 10 years old compared to the TF700. Devs are too stupid or too lazy to figure out it's easier to downscale than upscale. (Evidently I mean those on Google Play and not the folks here, let's keep those two seperate.)
As for compatibility issues, developers are too lazy to add 'Transformer TF700" to that text file in the google play store that lists compatible devices. (How hard is it to do that when you add the Nexus 7?! Morons) Fact is all EA and Gameloft games work FINE on the TF700.
many apps/games which are shown as not compatible are working fine if you copy a titanium backup from your phone to the tab!

When an app or games looks really promising, I'll always try side-loading from my Galaxy SII -- works more often than not. With Total Commander, you can just send over the raw apk file as well.
I have removed a few post in here guys, remember this site is for everyone, be mindful of what you say. Thank you!

I Blame Asus, they should call the Game developer and ask the why the game is not compatible with their device.
When Asphalt 7: Heat came out it wasn't compatible with the Nexus 7,but Google make sure that was compatible in a few days.
Asus is making Good Hardware but does really spend time on the software.....
I look at it this way:
I went through the same pain when Vista first came out, only it was software *AND* device drivers (for hardware). IOW, Been there, done that.
Yeah, it is annoying that some apps are not available for my Infinity. But, most are. And I am good with that.
As mentioned above, I'd rather be ahead of the curve in terms of hardware than behind it. Having used my Infinity for a couple of months now I could never use anything less than the resolution I am using on it on any other tablet.
What is the point of spending $500 or more on a tablet device and not getting Full HD?
It looks like bunch of devices are getting cm 11 now in nightlies, I figure porting one of them to our devices will only be a matter of time.Official CyanogenMod site http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?type=nightly and xda news link http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-many-devices-4-4-1-based-builds-by-tomorrow/

I hope more developers come here to develop and help our device.Team Canjica is best team in this forum which help our phone.
Off topic: Phone is made for chat:calls and messages and some games. But producters release phones with display over 5",with quadcore processors or octa core.Phone are gonna to have processor with over 8 cores and nvidia geforce at video and we will play gta 5 lol. Is called PHONE not COMPUTER. Smartphone should have a processor with 1.8 GHz max and Mali400, Mali 400MP or Adreno 305 maxim at graphic and display between 4" and 5" maxim. A smartphone should be SMART.Having big display, processors not make a phone smart. Producers must stop making smartphones with big displays and processors because make nonsense (also making phone with flexible or curved display make nonsense). Features like answer calls by saying "Answer" or by waving hand etc. ,these make a phone smart. I always was thinking to buy new smartphones (which are also popular) which have big display and big processors, make nonsense.I was thinking to buy nexus 4,but for what? Just a more big display and processor? I will be able just to play more new games without lag,but computer is for games not phone. In this moment,Tasked app can make a smartphone really smart. Thanks to the guy which made this awesome app.
So,I never sell my Galaxy S Advance for other phones until he die And maybe after he die I buy another galaxy s advance I love my phone and I'm satisfied with it.You made me to say my opinion about smartphones

Good words man, i think that a 5" display is reallyannoying to use because u can't bring with you freely cuz he's really too big! The new 8core are really useless, some galaxy s4 are getting some lags in touchwiz, our telephone not!

Paragraph 1: Our phone is being discontinued already, slowly but it's happening. Thankfully, Team Canjica helps us to take way more advantage of this 768Mb of RAM and 1GHz out of this comfortable 4" screen.
Paragraph 2: You're right but most of the flagships have software features that make them "smart" in a certain way. GS4 has features like Smart Stay and Air Gestures that make it way more useful than generic phones with more specs that just improve perfomance a bit more than needed without any other useful purpose, Moto X goes maybe for busy people that don't have the time to execute those time-consuming tasks that thankfully are shorten considerably depending on those features. Xperia Z1 goes for picture quality and a tad more for sound quality as the HTC One. It mostly depends of each phone. Not every phablet is useless. And about specs increase over time, it's just tech "evolving".
