[Q] Transformer or Transformer Prime? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
So here's my dilemma. I was thinking of getting a netbook for professional purposes (word, mindmapping software and possibily vintage gaming) but I've com to the conclusion that most netbooks pretty much suck hardware-wise (can't even do HD video <.<).
So I took a look at both the Transformers, and with their keyboard dock they seemed like a perfect choice, for their size and usability.
However, the vintage gaming I'm looking for (that I'm willing to throw away at this point) was only available for Windows (mostly). So being that I'm possibly opting for an Android "tablet-book" I'm still wondering this:
Are the rumors that Windows 8 will be ARM-compatible and possbily will work on the Transformer Prime? If so I might get one. If not I'll possibly go for the original transformer. But that leaves me with another question:
Except for the quad-core is the difference from the Tegra2 to the Tegra3 really steep in terms of performance?
Thanks in advance,
K.

Dont hold your breath for windows 8. The rumor says its only going to be sold pre-installed on devices, and not available for download to other devices. And since it isnt open source, porting it to other devices would be quite tricky, and also piss microsoft off.
The Prime is faster, no doubt. But is it enough to justify the price differences? I dont think so.
The tegra2 can not handle 1080p movies. The prime struggles with them as well but can play most of them.
But in whole, it sounds like a tablet wont satisfy your needs, unless you got access to a windows PC you can use through remote desktop all the time.
A tablet can not replace a laptop/pc yet. They arent ment for that. Once win8 tablets start to mature, that might change. But that might take years.

Before anything thanks for the reply, every input is useful
The point is, I don't need it to substitute my desktop PC (I have a gaming rig, it would be impossible xD), I do need it to be able to work on documents on the go, read stuff, and browse the web like it was a netbook, but without sacrificing the abitity to watch video like I would have on a netbook.
In terms of gaming I only really need it to run all Android games flawlessly

That wont happen, for several reasons;
Gameloft, which has a big amount of good games, hardly supports the Transformers, forcing us to find the games by other means.
A lot of games is only coded for crappy phones with their low-res screens, making them unplayable on a tablet with a larger resolution.
If you want an android device that can play the majority of the games available, you're better of getting a high-end phone ... its a sad world we're living in...
That said, there is a lot of games available, but some takes a lot of time to find.
One example is Order & Chaos... It took me 2 weeks before I actually found a version that works on the TF101, and once gameloft decides to update the game - who knows how long it will take before it will work again.
We have a thread here that lists the gameloft games currently known to work on our TF101's. The list itself isnt updated in quite a while, but the last few pages lists some more games.
I think the Prime forum got a similar thread.

Thanks for the advice again
But honestly I don't play Gameloft stuff because I hate their shanenigans of making crappy coded games that don't even work the same on two phones with the same hardware.
I'm talking more about many of the indie games that have been popping up on the Market from Osmos HD, to Avadon and Canabalt among many others.

Its a hard choice but if you want gps and great wifi the original tf is the choice.
Documents on the go no problems for me.
If you root and use custom roms and overclock the performance difference at the moment does not justify the price.
Gaming thats a hard one some might say games dont work or hd games are usually released for the prime etc etc. But for me i play ps1 n64 gameboy etc with a ps3 controller on my tf101 i also play sims freeplay and a load of other games that i got direct from the market. You may not get all games but i think the best part of say 4-5 hundred games would be enough for anyone.
The ability to hook it up to the tv and play ps1 games with opengl (makes the old graphics look way better) alone makes it worth loving my android tablet.
Also when i had to decide between netbook and android tablet the winner for me was the tf101 because i can get 18hrs battery life most netbooks i have seen are lucky to last 6.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium HD app

I can watch videos fine on my transformer (I'm not really an avid video watcher who can ONLY watch things in super super HD, seriously, 720 is really good on a screen this small). My tablet is very useful because I mostly browse, read pdfs, and take notes. Sadly, I find that I'm using the keyboard less and less, since the only time I really use it is when I have to type up reports, and latex works better with a bigger screen so I don't even use the keyboard much then..

[Q] Best mobile phone for hardcore gaming

just a quick question: WP7 with Xbox live or iPhone or Android, Which among them would u recommend for hardcore gaming on the go considering present and future support and software? i'm having second thoughts about my device and was thinking of maybe switching. please no consoles, pc's, etc.
If you want HARDCORE gaming, neither WP7 nor iPhone will be good enough...PSP/PSP2 is what you'll want
You could wait for the rumored (dc if it's "confirmed" it's still a rumor to me) Sony phone, supposed to be like a psp running android.
i mean, only from those 3, wp7, iOS and android. i was thinking about gaming on the go with the same device making calls, sms, email, movies, music

for gaming on the go with the best future potential, i'd say wp7 has that crown.
Currently, android. Give it a few months and WP7.
Currently have an HTC Trophy, wife has an iphone. My mom has an Android (really!). So i guess the right thing to do is stick to WP7 and be patient
as much as i know we have emulators for psx and other conosles on android?^^
winmo got a psx emulator too (not wp7)
Cool, a psx emulator! Thats a plus then. Hate this dilemma

wp7 doesnt have ish for it .. what are u talking about .... only gameloft hd and dungeon defenders are worthwhile games , and theyre for android
that said id reccomend a galaxy s series or psp phone or a tegra2 phone
What screen size do you think you need for hardcore gaming? I can't imagine playing anything in great detail on a screen smaller than a tablet (iPad, Galaxy Tab, etc.)
Any screen size will do i guess or maybe at least 3.5"
Although i will never buy an iPhone, i have to admit that iPhone wins for gaming. Casual gaming, not hardcore. Android sure has WAY morapps then WinMo, but tbh, i was a bit dissapointed at the quantity/quality. iPhone has dedicated officaial game devs, wheras android is open source and there aren't that many blockbusters.
i personally use ny Ipod touch. i don't use my tab for games, there aren't many :/
Android is best for gaming. At CES, lots of new games were demoed for Android.
http://www.appolicious.com/tech/articles/4690-ces-android-other-platforms-see-a-big-gaming-boost
WP7 has the potential to be a big gaming platform, but it's never going to happen if people don't buy it, and so far, they aren't. Of the few who have bought a WP7 phone, fewer people are satisfied with it than people who bought Android phones.
http://www.networkworld.com/community/node/71041
Are phones carrier subsidized in the Phillippines? If not, then you will get a whole lot more phone for the money going with Android over iPhone.
Android has better hardware for games
iPhone has better optimization. The devs all just focus on one device hardware to build upon. the apps are more stable.
Gangstar on my ipod touch 2g is smoother than on my Samsung Galaxy Tab :/
p.s - I'm not a Apple fanboy.
None for now. WP7 might have a chance with XBox Live integration (and I think we might see some XBox games ported over, maybe not), but nothing much right now. iOS does have a ton of casual games, but not too fond of hardcore gaming on it (I think the screen size is way too small). Android has the advantage in hardware (obviously), but has a lack of drivers and, with the exception of emulators, the game selection is poor (might change).
Windows Mobile 6.x True playstation emulator.
FSpcse on TG01 = Unbeatable
(except hd2)
the new PSP
I would wait for the Atrix to come out, as it will be a powerhouse.
iPhone seems to get more support for games though and they are always released on iOS first.
Play Station Phone

Question About 7.0 Plus vs Thrive or Transformer

I recently got the 7.0 plus as a late Christmas gift. I like the size of the tablet because it is nice and light and goes everywhere. However, I have a few cons that I am wondering if they are deal breakers for me.
The first is the lack of games that can be played on the 7.0 plus. I don't want my tablet to play games all the time but I was hoping to be able to play a few games (like riptide or asphalt6) and this tablet cannot play those types of games.
The second is that some tablet apps don't work on this device and I would guess that is because of the 7 inch size. I was hoping to mainly use the device to read news, magazines and books. I do not care too much about videos because I have a laptop that can handle all HD videos I throw at it.
I'm stuck between size, weight and portability versus games and proper apps. Does anyone know how the Thrive, Transformer or Samsung 8.9 tablet handle these things?
Thanks for any help
Have you tried Chainfire? This may allow you to play the games you mentioned. As far as the other apps are concerned, you may want to contact the developers. They may just need to update the app so it recognizes the 7.0 Plus as a tablet.
Keep in mind, this tablet is relatively new, and my guess is, many issues like this will be resolved in due time.

Agreed chainfire is about your only option right now. With that said the exynos chips are very very good....just give it some more time for the dev community to pick up.

I second what the posters above have already said. Chainfire 3D will allow you to play those games for now, but with time these games will be updated to work with the 7.0 Plus. The same goes for the tablet apps.
To answer your second question, the 8.9, (since it is Tegra 2) can handle everything you have discussed in your post, and it is closest in size to the 7.0 Plus of all of the tablets you have mentioned. If you like the portability of the 7.0 Plus, a move to the Transformer or the Thrive, (especially the Thrive as it is so thick,) will feel a good deal less portable.
My advice, (for what it's worth) would be to get chainfire3D for now to play the games and then stop using it or even get rid of it once the games have been updated for your tablet. The tablet apps will be updated, it will just take a few more weeks. (I seriously doubt it would take more than 3 more weeks for developers to update their apps.) I hope this helps. Have fun with your tablet.

HUH? Riptide works great even without chainfire. Asphalt 6 on the other hand is fairly new and still doesn't support our tablet officially. But there are some workarounds with that. (thanks to chrisrotolo for teaching me )
Well, I haven't really found any tablet optimized app that doesn't work on the GTab+. I think it is compatible with our device but maybe it's not available on your country?

I was messing around with the dpi and find if you change it to 132 if the app has a tablet optimized version it will show properly on the tab. Try it with the IMDB app you'll see what I mean.
Thanks for the responses guys! I tried riptide and it FC'd. I'm in America and the apps I was talking about is thinks like CNN Tablet Edition cannot even be installed. It says it does not recognize my device.
I will have to try chainfire and see how it works! Thanks again for the help
Actually, can anyone help me so I can get the games to work?

Help me choose a Tablet mainly for emulators/emulation

Dear users,
ive been searching around google and xda forums for a correct answer, however most of the specific aspects of my questions are still unresolved, while i got some inputs, but i have alot of confusion.
First im an iOS user, therefore im a total noob about android tablets and hardwares.
I want a tablet powerful enough to run psx games, n64 games and most importantly TigerArcade along CPS3 games such Street Fightet Third Strike.
Im asking this because i really want a powerful android tablet that does everything that iOS does without getting an IPAD 2.
Specially i would like to take advantage of the emulators and of the flash-supported browsing experience.
So to recap i would like to know which kind of hardware i need to:
- Run psx games fullspeed (60fps) without frameskips (Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3 etc etc.)
- Run TigerArcade CPS3 Games such JoJo, Street Fighter III at 60fps
- Run n64 games at decent speed
Based on what i gathered around, a tablet with Tegra 2, or a powerful (above 1,2ghz) dual core cpu should be able to run those psx/arcade games fullspeed.
My only experience with Android so far was with my dad Galaxy S 1 (should be called Captivate in usa?) and those psx games were running around 45-50 fps albeit on a single Snapdragon cpu.
I was looking toward something in the likes of Acer Iconia A100/A200 which should be both Tegra 2.
My budget doesnt really matter, but i guess around 400€ (500$).
Im looking forward to some definitive answers.
If anyone can write down some real experiences or videos i would appreciate that.
Thank you all
PS: as a disclaimer, ive took a look to the noob video (lol) and to other similar threads, but i guess mine is more specific.
Asus Transformer Prime is right now the best Android tablet for gaming, at least what I have heard. You should be able to plug in (or use Bluetooth) a controller, maybe PS3, google some more information about that. TF prime runs everything smooth but it's a bit expensive. I guess you can find the specific price in your country.

Is the OUYA game console pointless and/or doomed to fail?

(This was originally posted in a sub-sub-sub forum, but I don't think there was enough traffic to get any responses, so maybe it's better suited for this General section?)
I just wanted to bring up a few thoughts I've had about the upcoming OUYA console, and see what you guys think.
1. I still don't really understand how/why all of this couldn't have been handled by simply creating a GoogleTV-specific OUYA app...?
2. Besides the OUYA's dedicated game-centric market, and their custom controller, what does one really gain that is not already available in the Android ecosystem?
3. How do they plan to prevent their entire custom OS (Or their individual apps) from being ported to other Tegra-based GTV devices in the future? Or, given their outright support for hacking the device, would they even care?
4. And then there's this: Google reportedly making a Game Center for Android
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Google-reportedly-making-a-Game-Center-for-Android_id30026/
If one was to pair the above (hypothetical) "GTV Game Center" app with a Google-branded "Nexus Controller," wouldn't the entire OUYA become pointless? Would you prefer an app/service that is fully integrated with the entire Google ecosystem, rather than a custom version of the OS and functionality that are outside of (or weakly tied to) said ecosystem?
That said, I still plan to buy a OUYA, but only because I'm a sucker for shiny new toys -- especially of the Android variety!
What are your thoughts? Am I "over thinking" this console? Do you think it will be made pointless by an evolution of the GTV?
I'm just looking for friendly debate, so please keep it civil...
It's $100, a lot cheaper than most phones capable of gaming. It's hackable, so rather than spending a bomb on a new phone to play the latest games, just add some more cpu/gpu for a lot cheaper. It has a controller, no more crappy touch screen controls, or spending a fortune on a PS3 controller.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I guess my biggest issue with it is that they're leaving out the GTV capabilities. That just doesn't make any sense to me at all.
If the Vizio Costar switches to a Tegra3, they could simply add an "Ouya Game Center" app, and be done... in that single move, they'd make the entire Ouya console obsolete.
i feel like i'm the only person afraid of kickstarter. but, i think this thing will really only appeal to people that don't want to invest in sony or microsoft's new consoles.
I'm just waiting to see what Sony and Microsoft are going to bring to the table, hopefully we will see an Android LIKE experience with their next gen console's.

I plan on buying this regardless in addition to the next MS console.

They openly support hacking the console so any gtv apps/services they don't natively support we can always add in later. As for porting their OS it could be possible and I think they would care but honestly it would be a completely different experience compared to the console. For instance a tablet with the ported OS and bluetooth controller would be similar but possibly just not up to spec causing slow response time or crashing/freezing. it seems cool though and I'm all for it, especially since I saw it a while ago on Hackaday (that's how I heard about it).
Google TV's half-hearted Android port is too restrictive for me.
Lost faith in Sony after PS3 Linux fiasco, and BMG CD Malware Scandal. Microsoft Surface with Windows RT's "Secure Boot" is also too restrictive for me.
Lenovo's LeTV has full Android port and comes with game controller(s).
...So for me, it comes down to $1000 LeTV vs $99 OUYA ...until Google Game Center becomes available on tablets.

The problem with hacking the GTV apps and functionality onto the Ouya is that they're not including the HDMI input that is required for actual GTV functionality. If they just added that one port, I think it would make a lot more sense, and it would have that much more potential...
Well again they support total hacking of the system so my guess is that someone will get it up and working with an HDMI port. Honestly my bet would be less than 2 weeks after release it'll either be posted here or on hackaday or both (here because it's an android console, hackaday because it's a hardware hack) so we'll really just have to wait and see but it's not out of the realm of possibilities.
its a waste of time the ouya, if i want a console id rather use the ps3 or xbox 360, and if i want android gaming, id rather game on the tube or train or bus on the way to work/home/whatever to pass the time with on my gs3 or one x,
it's a nice idea, but it will never compete with the 'big boys', android games just can't compare

yeh they suck compared to the big boys, what a daft idea,
when portable devices can get real computing architecture (not arm, arm sucks) and decent battery life along with support for dx11+ style graphics, anti aliasiing, etc,. then this would be a big deal, right now, its just a waste of space

I'd like to see what the Ouya would be like with the new intel mobile processors, and yes.......... an HDMI port.
I'm not going to say the current Ouya will be a total bust, the funding says I'm not alone in that thought. I do see this taking over as the kids video game system, all those silly games kids download on their parents phones from the play store...for $100. Pretty decent.
The Xbox 720 and the PS4 will still be the dominant consoles though.......... it would be nice if Ouya's presence made them lower the future pricing; the slim PS3 coming out is rumored at $150.
I have a theory on what Google now plans to do with the Nexus Q: add their own Google Game Center app and release the Q as a Ouya alternative. Hell, they may even include OnLive and/or GoogleTV capabilities (if they add a second HDMI port).
Since it's a Nexus device, it would probably be even more hacker-friendly than the Ouya...
One can dream, right?

What is the point?

1-What is point of buying FULL HD tablet and most the apps are not optimize for it..(Like the IPAD 3 there are a few apps that are optimize )
2-What is the point, every time i go GOOGLE PLAY to buy an app ,it is not compatible with my devices.
{Almost 90% of EA games and 90% of GAMELOFT games are compatible with my devices.}
What else i'm i missing........
MOD EDIT: REMOVED
This is the future of tablets along with 2gigs of ram like the Note 10.1. Eventually apps will be optimized for tablets and for higher res screens. Google has spoken out and said that they will focus on tablet apps optimization so its only a matter of time before most devs are on board. Yes many apps are not optimized for the FHD screen but I havent had any issues with all the apps Ive downloaded far and i already have about 150 apps installed. I dont know about you but I like knowing that my FHD screen tablet will still be valid in the coming years vs one with an aging lower res screen.

Text, which is used on ebooks, web browse, several games etc. But if you have Infinity or FHD device, just go use non FHD device now. You will immediately notice blurriness on texts. My eyes are bad, but even then I noticed the difference on my old iPad 2 after 2 weeks of Infinity.
The problem is that everything is made for the Galaxy. And we know all that has a resolution that looks 10 years old compared to the TF700. Devs are too stupid or too lazy to figure out it's easier to downscale than upscale. (Evidently I mean those on Google Play and not the folks here, let's keep those two seperate.)
As for compatibility issues, developers are too lazy to add 'Transformer TF700" to that text file in the google play store that lists compatible devices. (How hard is it to do that when you add the Nexus 7?! Morons) Fact is all EA and Gameloft games work FINE on the TF700.
many apps/games which are shown as not compatible are working fine if you copy a titanium backup from your phone to the tab!

When an app or games looks really promising, I'll always try side-loading from my Galaxy SII -- works more often than not. With Total Commander, you can just send over the raw apk file as well.
I have removed a few post in here guys, remember this site is for everyone, be mindful of what you say. Thank you!

I Blame Asus, they should call the Game developer and ask the why the game is not compatible with their device.
When Asphalt 7: Heat came out it wasn't compatible with the Nexus 7,but Google make sure that was compatible in a few days.
Asus is making Good Hardware but does really spend time on the software.....
I look at it this way:
I went through the same pain when Vista first came out, only it was software *AND* device drivers (for hardware). IOW, Been there, done that.
Yeah, it is annoying that some apps are not available for my Infinity. But, most are. And I am good with that.
As mentioned above, I'd rather be ahead of the curve in terms of hardware than behind it. Having used my Infinity for a couple of months now I could never use anything less than the resolution I am using on it on any other tablet.
What is the point of spending $500 or more on a tablet device and not getting Full HD?
