Was just wondering if anyone knew what if any repercussions there would be using the Wifi Hotspot and USB tether app from SVTP (from the Android Market) on a non-rooted Verizon GN. The app works great and was quick to setup but I am interested to know if I will be automatically popped into a Mobile Hotspot plan (which I do not have now) if I use it.
That being said would it make more sense to root my phone to circumvent these potential charges?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Verizon has recently adopted new changes in how it monitors for tethering and when unauthorized tethering is detected it redirects you to a verizon web page on how to order a tethering package. I have heard PDA net still works, you might want to check out Koush's tether app, reported to be undetectable.
I say either way root your phone, then load a custom rom many of them have work arounds for wifi tethering
I recently purchased an unlocked note pro 12.2 p907a and I can't find a hotspot option anywhere. I'm using a tmobile sim card but the only hotspot app that came with the tablet is for att customers. What apps are you using to generate a hotspot on your note? Also, I'm stock, not rooted.
You can try Wifi Tether Router in the Play store but its a paid app. Use the configuration settings (link in app description) for the Note 3 or email the developer. He responds very fast and will help you out if you cant get it to work.
Any progress on this? Just got my tablet with same question. WiFi tether requires root and I'm hoping to find non root option first if out there. Willing to root but just getting started here.
Just bought a H950 and plan on rooting on 5.1.1 ... Only issue is, I must have WiFi hotspot for me to be able to keep this phone. I'm currently on cricket, and they will not unlock the carrier block on wifi hotspots. Has anyone had any luck getting this to work? Thanks.
really.... is the support/community for this phone this weak??

Locked bootloader and no method to recover from a brick depending on what firmware you are running.
You could try to add DUN to your APN settings and see if native hotspots working. Use an app like shortcut master to find the hidden menu where you can change this.
Check if this method works on the Flex, I know it was present on the G2's (ATT) LP build, and G3 too I think.

Wifi Tether Router (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en) worked for me without popping up the carrier dialogue box. Does take a minute or two to enable, but it worked.
thanks to everyone for the replies, phone comes in monday. I will test all mentioned methods and report back success and failures.

It sounds like Wifi tether router worked for you? If so, what provider are you on? I have an H950 on T-Mobile and am wondering if this will help me wifi tether.
Thanks!
Cricket
What settings are you using for Wifi Tether Router? I've tried several and nothing is working for me (H950, Cricket). The SSID doesn't appear to be active on any other devices in the room.
Try WIFI Tether Router on my H950 11x rooted and it crashed on me. Can't even start the app.
So it is a rooted, unlocked sprint note 5 on cricket. Everything works great. Like the title says, i am using the native tethering app and the hotspot works great.
Foxfi was ok, but still only allowed one connection. Eventally i was not able to tether anymore, due to an error message. So i added _dun in the carrier settings in SQlite editor, and it has been working fine since.
The only thing i have not been able to figure out, is why can i only connect one device to my hotspot? I have never experienced that limitation before with different androids, that were rooted, native tethering, etc.
Any ideas?
Are there any hotspot or wireless tether apps in the app store that actually work? I would love to have unlocked hotspot, but I don't want to root yet. I can never get any of the apps in the app store to work either.
Does anyone know of any apps that work and possibly what settings to use to get them to work ?
