Screen casting options? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm still a little vague on this subject. I've searched and read some topics here but I'm still not really sure in my options so i'm hoping to get some advice.
My goal: Cast my screen to my tv so I can play games on my tv.
My set up:
basic samsung 1080p tv (no network connection)
XBMC / Windows box connected via HDMI.
I appreciate I may need to buy hardware and I am willing to do so. My xbmc box used to handle DNLA from my S3 gallery but not sure about miracast or alternatives. Obviously dnla will not give me what I want anyway
Im a bit confused by the different "branding" of cast technology so im not sure what to research.
Any help to find a solution would be grateful received

you might try allcast. it will cast the screen to a DLNA source which xbmc is.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.cast
you can at least try it out for 1min to see if thats what you are looking for before paying for it.

Thanks for that however dlna won't do what I need. I need full cast of everything. Dlna only handles media but I need to screen cast the entire phone outside of "media" unfortunately.

i believe you would need something that handles miracast as its a more popular option for screen casting. you should have more success finding something that handles/does miracasting.

One of the threads was saying miracast was a bit hit and miss. Are there other things that cast that aren't "miracast"?
Is miracast just a receiver at the tv side and an app on the android side?
Anyone got any miracast experience in the n5

$$$300 hundred dollar app request!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will pay a $300.00 bounty through Paypal for this app someone can write:
Please write an app that sends the screen captures, all video, SLINGPLAYER, all programs to be sent through the HDMI port so I can watch my sling player on my nav system with an hdmi downscaler box through composite video, to my Pioneer AVIC Z3.
So I'm asking that a Dev find a way to enable ALL programs and video and slingplayer to be sent through the hdmi port. (I want my EVO to act like a Droid Incredible with the tv out cable.)
Thanks,
Mark
I think its just a matter of time before one of the development figures out a way. I don't think an app is going to cut it, its more of an ability of the operating system.
Posted via XDA Android app from Evo
Hope your really going to pay the $300 when someone releases this.....
I hope I get the first copy before the masses......then yes ill take care of the developer.
I will up the bounty by committing to an additional $50...
Looking to do the same thing for my audi. Would love to use google maps, sling, read email, browse the net, all from my nav screen... Also as a feature of the app: a setting that allows us to lock the screen in landscape mode
JB'd iCraps have a program I believe called video out that accomplishes this..
Here's a video;

I'd also like to see this happen and would be willing to throw some bills if it is completed. This is a great idea.
You might be able to just redirect the phone's screen to the hdmi port which would effectively give every app access to the hdmi port
hope someone is working on this, sry i cant add to the bounty though.
How do you do this?

I know this is no solution, but send an email to HTC & Sprint about this feature telling them that xyz competitor has this on their flagship phone etc...
HDMI output support
Is this what we're all looking for?
http://docs.google.com/View?id=dhtsnvs6_57d2hpqtgr#4_HDMI_output_support_82321908
4. HDMI output support
This device supports HDMI output of video content via a cable. Common use of this could be to connect to a TV or a video projector to show a video clip.
The output of the video is tied to the user connecting the HDMI cable to the handset and to a HDMI player such as a TV, once the two have recognized each other, applications attempting to play video will not see the video on the device screen but it will be sent over the HDMI cable. While this is fairly plug-n-play, there are some things to consider for your application design.
4.1 Blocking HDMI output
We realize there may be some applications which do not want their video content played out over HDMI, this may be for many reasons including, usage rights associated with video or control over user experience. If you wish to restrict a user from using HDMI out with your application you can add the following permission to your manifest.

this might be possible very possible ....
I've come across code allowing developers to enable or disable HDMI out in their apps..
So what's the default? I haven't gotten myself a cable yet, but i'd assume it's disabled.
In due time if laws permit and enough people complain to the developer's i'm sure it will happen.
Also it won't be hard to include the code in the launcher.apk..
Still, it needs to be permitted from app to app, which is a problem..
To solve that problem!!
We need an app, no more like a service, which when active is clear, completely transparent, and allows you to see and control the GUI through that layer but exactly as usual.
So as long as that APK allows hdmi output we will see the entire GUI through the program THUS having a fully output UI.
I should really brush up on my programming.
EDIT: I am officially working on it and progress is going great =)
I know what i'm doing just gonna take a while to get there lol

Android Live Stream to PS3 (DLNA)

Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me? I am wanting to stream live content that i am watching on my Samsung S3 to my Sony PS3. I have tried a few apps (twonky beam, Belkin media play). From the PS3 i am able to browse the phone and view video/pics etc that are stored on my phone but can't find any options which "beams" what i am watching on my phone straight to the TV via DLNA.
I am certain i am not the only person that would like to do this and am sure many people are already doing this (free). If someone knows a certain app that could do this that would be great. I am limited to DLNA and Wifi on both my Samsung s3 and PS3 as i know there are paid for devices like chromecast that do this but i was looking for a free alternative.
Apologies in advance if have posted this in the wrong section or asking something which has already been answered. I have tried searching for DLNA/PS3 without any luck before posting.
Thank You all in advance for your assistance.

[Completed] Any way to cast games to chromecast?

I just recently purchased a chromecast and was wondering if there was any way to cast games like need for speed or dead space to my TV? I've tried casting the whole screen but as soon I open the app, it cuts off the screen cast. Any help would be highly appreciated!

Android Tablets that feature MHL/HDMI Output (and work with YouTube TV)

The topic says it all. I'm looking for an up to date OS wise Android Tablet model that allows HDMI output to use with YouTube TV. Does anybody have any suggestions? It seems every good tablet I research doesn't allow HDMI output. I know Chromecast exists, but that won't work in my situation because of various network issues.
