[Q] Crash help [Log] - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I randomly started experiencing reboots consistently after about 30-45 seconds of the phone booting. I don't experience the issue when booting into safe mode so I assume it must be some third party app at fault. I made a logcat file of the phone booting and then crashing, but I'm not sure what to look for in the file. So if anyone who knows how to read logs could just quickly look at it I would be very thankful!

Hi,
Maybe a last_kmsg would be better?
It is located in /proc/last_kmsg...
In your logcat it seems related to SuperSU but I'm not sure...

Here is the last_kmsg that I pulled after one of the reboots:

Hi,
Ok, you are using Franciscofranco's kernel, reason for the reboot: kernel panic...
As I'm on my phone it's hard to look closely your log... I'll try tomorrow.
Have you undervolted? Overclocked?
Maybe also send your log to Franciscofranco...

Why did you post your question twice?
Rebooting this often is most likely an app issue. Did you install Advanced TAsk Manager? It is known for rebooting phones. Lots of other apps can cause reboots also. I doubt this is a phone or OS issue.
sorry i didnt know i posted it twice i got some gateway thing so i thought it didnt post but thanks for info
also when i use my camera and when i get out even if i wait 5 minutes the second i turn off the screen the phone reboots?
Have you tried reflashing?

[Q] Help needed to figure why phone is rebooting randomly

I'm running cm 10.1 nightly 4/14/2013 24993. I updated today and phone reboots from time to time. The previous build I was using I was much more stable. I have been trying to update couple times in the past to the newest (at the time) build but phone rebooted so I always restored back using a backup. And have been chalking to beta software. But number of comments said that this build is solid for them. I'm starting to believe it's my phone, something on it is causing the reboots.
How do I go about figuring out what is causing this fault, app, driver or other module?
Will posting a logcat help?
Doesn't the logcat clear on reboot? If so, what other tool can I use to narrow this down?
Or should I just wipe/it clean and start over?
Thanks
Rick
A guy on Rom manager commented, try installing this aio package. I have not got a random reboot yet.

[Q] Nexus 5 reboots reason kernel_panic & wdog_bite

I am annoyed by this random reboot issue still being unsolved.
Please if someone can help with troubleshooting the errors in last_kmsg:
"unable to handle the NULL pointer dereference at virtual address...... "
"unable to handle the paging request at virtual address........"
I am not an expert but I have read on the Internet about Linux kernel "oops" leading to kernel panic and reboot.
Can anyone build a fix for the Android kernel to handle these oops errors and not panic? Or can anybody read these last_kmsg files and tell me what is causing this?
last_kmsg files attached.
im going to check them out shortly, but kernel panics can be caused by just about anything. even a simple derp, will lead to a kernel panic, which will lead to a reboot.

if youre using avast security software, i think its causing it, or is playing a role in it. but thats my guess, not 100%.

I am currently using avast but these kernel_panics occur without any 3rd party app installed at all.
are you completely stock? the kernel panics occur not because of the kernel, it just reacts to the oops. anything, including rim, apps, data flow, your router, etc can cause them. sounds like you get them often, which you shouldnt. if rarely, then id say it was normal, but often isnt normal.
oh, i said avast because it shows up twice, right before stuff goes wrong.

Yes I am completely stock and yes I get reboots very often. Please guide me how to get to the actual culprit which is causing this. I have uninstalled avast.
I got 3 reboots in last 5 minutes here are the logs.

I have used Franco kernel on stock 4.4.4 and I even tried CM11 the problem persisted in both situations. Suggest me some better kernel I'll try it.
try without any custom kernel, stock kernel.. problem persists? go get an RMA, its not supposed to be happening. actually, i have never seen so many wdog bites!

I flashed factory images and the issue is still there. There is an app named stability test on play store it runs several stress tests on the cpu at different frequencies and also on the ram. I ran it and during the tests the device temp got up to 45 degrees and even after 50 successfull cpu runs on all the 4 cores and 500 successful ram runs the device didn't reboot. If it is hardware related why does it pass the stress test over n over again? One thing more, the device reboots most of the time when it is connected to internet through wifi or mobile data. I am doubtful that it is something related to the modem drivers. I found stock flashable radio images n i flashed them but the problem is still there.

When you talk about hardware problems you can only speculate. There is most likely cpu related. If it was software related, flashing other fitmware would fix the problem. Since it doesn't the only answer is hardware

Phone randomly shutting down

Hi, I've done some research through xda and other outside sources and haven't been able to find a solution or explanation for my issue. The problem that I am having is my phone is randomly shutting down and I have to pull the battery before it allows me to turn it back on. I'm not sure if this is a software, hardware, or battery issue.
I'm running an LG G3 D850, rooted and running flexos 5.1.1, and the 777 kernel. Everything has been fine until about a week ago when I noticed the first shutdown. As of the past two days it has become more frequent. I think the issue may have been with the settings I had set for the app I was using to manage my kernel settings. So I've uninstalled it and will report back. I have a logcat and a screenshot of my about phone, i just dont know how to post it. Any and all help is appreciated, really not wanting to flash another ROM if it can be avoided. Thanks.

First thing to try is a factory reset or flash stock rom.

Thank you for your quick response. Im trying to avoid that as long as possible, but will turn to it as a last resort. Would you maybe have any other suggestions? I would like to post this logcat as I'm hoping it may shed some light on the shut downs. How might I do that?
