Exactly better! Interface animation is smooth more than JB. Possibility to choice ART instead of Dalvik. Seems is longer battery time (few % over night) and more...

Could anyone post some screenshots of the KitKat homescreen of the Moto G? I did not recieve any update yet and would be glad to see how it looks: Are there transparent navbars and stuff like that? - you know what I meen

Yes, transparent is present.

I'm liking it so far with the exception of the new dialer.
Does anyone know if it is possible to force the dialpad to always be visible?
Or even default to visible... I don't really like having to press the phone icon, then press the keypad icon to start dialing.

Scrolling is much improved. Battery life is better. Overall ui speed is comparable to the nexus 5. I have done a side by side comparison.

Can anyone here confirm OTG support still exists. The moto X disabled OTG when KitKat rolled out on those devices
Thanks

No you don't. KitKat is supposed to have stock transparent nav bar. I'm using stock launcher and it's back to transparent. It just likes to bug out sometimes and go black.

I was a bit disappointed until I sideloaded the official GEL, and now it's everything I wanted KitKat to be. My only gripe is that Motorola stripped the business number search function from the dialer. I have no idea why they would do this, but it's the feature I likely would have used the most from KitKat.

You don't need an alternate launcher -- you just need the GEL that was supposed to come with KitKat. For whatever reason, the official Moto G release of KitKat has the new Google Experience Launcher stripped away. There is a download link under the Apps section on this forum to sidelide the GEL. You don't need to be rooted. and you don't have to flash it -- just install it as a normal apk.

Actually, GEL is Nexus 5 exclusive, but you can still download and run the apk on any 4.3/4.4 device :good:

I can't WAIT! KitKat is destined to be totally amazing. Delicious is the perfect word for it.
I can't think of much to ask for as far as features go, but I do hope we get a perfected User Interface.
KitKat will probably have a few easter eggs, like when you tap on Settings>About Phone>Android Version, you get a KitKat animation or something. But, I do hope for amazing new features that are surprising, since Google is full of ideas and everything.
some skins ?
I'm still happy with gingerbread (rock solid). I make calls, text, surf a little, stream music, gps, etc. Will kitkat change my life?
Everytime I try some new rom, I always go back to GB. I'm sure kitkat will be nice on phones it was made for, but I'm tired of being a guinea pig for stuff that doesn't work 100% anyway.
Could be great a better performance for the batteries.

Nova Launcher on Android 4.4 KitKat?

Hello Geeks!
I'm sure a lot of you have Nova Launcher on your N4s, and if you're like me; you can't wait to get your hands on 4.4 KitKat.
Does anybody out there know if TeslaCoil will have to release a newer version of Nova optimized for 4.4 or will it already be compatible as soon as 4.4 gets rolled out to our devices? I'd rather wait for it to be optimized rather than get 4.4 and be Nova-less for a week or 2.
In addition: my friend Tony just ordered the Nexus 5. will Nova Launcher be compatible with his device right out of the box?
Anybody with info please lemme know. I'm fine with putting 4.4 off for a few weeks until I know FOR SURE that I can have Nova Launcher on top of the new tasty OS.
I don't know the answer however, one thing that sucks for Nova Launcher is that the Google Experience launcher is not open source. That means Nova can't keep that stock launcher look on 4.4.

Nova is based on the AOSP launcher so I don't think that will be helpful. There is still a AOSP launcher in the KitKat code but I don't know if they are maintaining it anymore.

Uhhh because the stock launcher is extremely uncustomizable? Nova can be very simple and look almost exactly like a stock launcher, but the amount of options it has are immense. I'm currently using the Google experience launcher and I really miss nova. Sticking with it for now though.

More customization than stock launcher like the static google search in <4.3, # of rows/columns, icon packs, etc.
Nova is based off AOSP Launcher anyways. So you're practically getting the stock launcher + added goodies. Of course this will be different with 4.4 in terms of the Google Now but I'm sure Nova will implement that someway.
Plus you can add gestures. Like if I swipe up on the phone icon I have it set up to direct dial my gf. Or a swipe up on home page opens app drawer. And you can backup your setup so if you flash Roms you can have your home screen set back up in seconds
Nova > stock launcher

I think it will be a little more difficult for custom launchers on 4.4 because of the integration of the launcher and Google now.
I don't see how they could integrate Google now into the left swipe or the "ok Google"command working from all home screens. This link shows my reasoning.

Actually that's one of the reasons why I use custom launchers: To get rid of Google Search, Google Now, and "always on" voice commands.
I don't need these anyway and as a bonus get longer battery life (by completely disabling Google Search).

I would happily use the 4.4 launcher if you could remove the persistent search bar, which does nothing but get in the way. Its seems utterly pointless given that you can open search a number of other ways almost instantly.

1. Is there any other difference too between a normal Moto G & the GPE one?
2. Can someone please confirm me the total amount of the 16GB GPE edition? (with taxes, shipping, etc.)
I live outside US and have requested a friend of mine (in Atlanta) to buy it for me, so need to know the exact amount!
The ones on the Official site & Amazon are $216 & $217 respectively.

The GPE would more than likely have some motorola apps removed and possibly a bootloader that doesn't have to be unlocked by requesting a key from Motorola
If it came out 2 weeks earlier, I would have purchased GP edition for sure.
But unfortunately (or rather not) got US GSM version from Motorola.
Just bought one and its on its way. Question, does the GPE have the transparant bar on the lockscreen / homescreen like the Moto version? Or is it black like the rest of the GPE devices? The homescreen doesnt concerne me since I plan to use the Google Experience launcher but that black bar on the lockscreen.... yuck :/

It will not be transparent unless you use a 3rd party launcher like Nova Launcher. The launcher3 that GPE devices use don't use transparency.

some of the replies doesn't have a clue what you are asking since they haven't used a Nexus 5. I don't know for sure since I don't have a Moto G Google edition. I think if it doesn't come with a Google launcher like the Nexus 5 it's safe to assume the lockscreen will also have a black bar. Though the point of Google edition is you can unlock the bootloader and easy install custom roms so if stock don't have it you can flash a framework mod with transparent lockscreen. If you aren't planning to root then I don't think it's necessary to get the Google play edition imo.

You don't need to root to get a transparency in the launcher. You just need a launcher that supports transparency like Nova Launcher. Also, the lock screen should have a transparent status bars by default.
Are you rooted? Do YOU want stock launcher with transparency, and stock wallpapers? Own a GPe? Replace the file in system/priv-app with this https://www.dropbox.com/s/xco9j32o19eidqx/launcher2.apk made this for Nexus 4 but I figured it'll work on anything

Ill have to see when it arrives, my question is because when my nexus 4 got kitkat update, the laucher had black bars as well as lockscreen which was expected, I changed to Google Launcher and the homescreen was transparent as promised but It did not affect lockscreen when it came to that and I wondered if it was the same thing here.

One thing that bothers me is that in the GPE it is written that FM radio not included.
Is this SW related or is this missing in the HW.
If it's hardware the this is a different version and Rom.
If it's software then how can this work. Loading a clean rom from the Europe versions?
Can somebody test this?

Blinkfeed keeps on working in backround no matter what...

I flashed the clean install rom which was offered by Scot in the android developer section. Not sure if it has anything to do with it or not... but even when i send blinkfeed to the trash can when i pinch the screen and drag it there, I notice in battery usage that it still keeps on draining my battery. not to mention it is doing the biggest drain...
anyone else bumped into this ?
( P.S : I dont think the flashed clean rom has anything to do with it. its a rom to just remove all the verizon blotwear etc... )
Edit :
does it effect battery life if my unlocked htc on m8 is on global settings for call network ?

Okay But I haven't seen any usable png on the official dialer and contacts of Android L. :3 Even digits.png
I would like to have this one too.
It looks amazing! It's when you select from contacts who you call, it doesn't open a new activity, rather it makes that circle animation and transforms into the incallUI. It' look great but is it possible to port it somehow to kitkat?
