Hi all.
Lately I'm facing a strange problem with my device.
when I navigate with it in a sunny day,
or talking on the phone while charging,
the devices gets hot and the screen goes down.
I can hear that the device is working and the buttons is working, but the
touchscreen is 'dead'. its all black.
Even a softreset won't fix it, the device goes up without the screen.
To fix it I need to pull out the battery for like 2 minutes untill the device gets cold.
is it hardware problem? Anyone else experienced any of these problems?
Thanks!
...ehem...
try to charge it via USB and not a car charger. Is there any difference now?
IMHO you should replace the device
the same problem
Hi
I have the same problem than you
I can use my Polaris in my computer with MyMobiler application but the sceen it's always black.
Sometimes when I do a Hard reset and press button left side it's OK but after some days it's comming again.
I think is not a hardware probleme but software problem.
Do you have resolve your probleme ?

I haven't resolve the problem yet.
the screen getting black is due to the nature of how a display works. i dont know of it actually damages the device, but i strongly believe so.
the working conditions of the device are written down in the manual, if you exceed those they might not replace your unit. this of course sucks, but it *is* written down to not expose the unit to direct sunlight.

I didn't know about the exposing to the sun ...
well, I hope it isn't got damaged badly.
thanks.
As I said, I'm not sure about the damage part, I could be completely wrong. I just think it *could* be...
If it doesnt change and the device gets unusuable all the time, I'd suggest you send it in for a replacement. Maybe you really got a bad unit, who knows.
Edit: I just thought of stuff which is usually written down in manuals and the glovebox problem popped in my mind: devices stored in the glovebox of your car are breaking down because of the sheer heat which builds up when the car is standing in the sun for a long time. All sorts of displays usually break or get completely black until the unit could cool down again... And in the glovebox they werent even exposed to direct sunlight, its just the heat...
hello. I have same problem. But i can't catch situation when it appears. I think, the sun is not an main culprit, because my phone goes down, when i
playing games in the room! may be it's overheating, but cooling doesn't help me.
To fix it, i do several soft resets (sometimes more then 300 ). Sometimes one reset helps, sometimes no. I think, it is hardware problem. Also i have problems with my camera (colormess). May be they are connected.
I will try to send it to service.
Hey, i put my device into refrigerator, and screen is working . I have tried to reanimate it since yesterday. Battery unplugging didn't help.
F*******K!!!
After ten minutes in the room with temperature near 20 C it's black again.
Can be problem with temperature sensor?

Don't put it in the refrigerator without putting it in a plastic bag or something. Moisture can kill it.
i put it into plastic pack.
But i think, that I'll kill it myself by throwing in the wall
Hm, question:
Where does temperature sensor dislocated? In battery or in PDA?
Well,
In the lab they told me my Board damaged up.
total-lost
What kind of damage?
this problem i faced it two times ,one of them when i put it inside my car and the AC was runing (cold) and my screen became black
and the other time it happened in a hot condition (also in my car)
realy this is very strange
and the solution for both to remove the battery for a while
[Q] This auto-dim "bug" is completely unacceptable...and is driving me beserk
Basically, if I turn autodim off and turn the brightness up over 50%, the screen shuts off and when I press power to wake, flashes for 1/10 of a second and then turns off. The only way I can use my tablet with brightness over 50% is when it is plugged in.
How has this not been fixed yet? It's got to be a software issue right? This is completely and totally ridiculous.

I don't have this problem. I use it at 75-100% most of the time on battery.
I have zero idea what it could possibly be. I'm on the verge of returning and just washing my hands of this thing. It's a shame because the Galaxy Tab will definitely be at a higher price point.
exchange it. Something is wrong. No one else is reporting this issue. I've had my ft stock, running Paul's rom and prime, and all the different kernels. No such problem. Sounds like a hardware fault.

This.
I get that people can get frustrated when something's wrong but the store should always be the first point of call if you've got a problem. If you get it exchanged and it still has an issue, THEN you get to post about it and complain. Even so, at least post in the right forum...
I have this problem and I've seen 2-3 other people with it, so its not that common by the looks of it. I tried to find a solution but I am RMAing mine as there isnt a fix at the moment.

tryed to mimic the issue here and it does not have that issue, its gotta be a bad unit. these things happen , it just sucks when it happens to u
So when I plug my N5 into charge, the screen starts recognizing "ghost" touches and does its own thing. Like when its charging its distorting the electric captive touch... Anybody else having the issue?

I am. I'm suffering it with my Nexus 10 as well as my Nexus 5, in my N10 the problem is much worse.
Same here, although for me its more often for my screen refusing to record my touch than recording ghost touches.
This is the case for Nexus 5 and Nexus 4 I had previously.
BTW, you can use an app like this to help testing the issue.
If you aren't using the charger that came with the phone this will happen.

In my case this happens with the official chargers, both for the N5 and N10 :crying:
I have the same problem here.
I already had this problem with my Nexus S. Using always the charger received with the phone.
I've noticed that sometimes is more annoying than others. It doesn't depend on the charge level, if you are charging by PC or how many apps are opened.
I think it's a temperature related problem, and it is happening when you are using the phone "a lot" while charging. But I'm not sure about that.
Anyone has more information about this?
P.D.: Now I noticed that I was experiencing this problem. My charge level was 96%. When it reached 100% this problem faded away.
Well this is weird. This morning I woke up and grabbed my G from next to my bed and the touch screen is being all slow and not responsive. I can't swipe left or right without doing it very slowly and deliberately. Same thing with bringing down my notification drawer.
Its making the phone near unusable. Even to type this all out I couldn't use Google keyboards swipe typing feature and have to hit each individual button really slowly.
Anyone know what could be causing this?

Install this and see how it behaves https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=multitouchpro.tests&hl=es
Thanks for that useful little app. It registers all my fingers fine, and its good if I swipe slowly, but if I swipe too fast it loses my finger for a second, which I guess is why I have a problem swiping.
I have no idea what's causing this still though since its been working fine for the past month.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
Do you by any chance have the charger plugged in while doing this? (My nexus 4 screen acts that way when I connect the wall charger)
Have you tried resetting it?
It's not plugged in, I did try rebooting it but not a reset. I'll have to give that a try now.

Same here, part of the screen is unresponsive, except if you move your finger very slowly.
I have the problem described by OP if I am charging with a high ampere charger. It is solved by me by turning the screen off and on after unplugging it.
I forgot to update. The problem just kind of fixed itself over a few hours. I took it to work and it was still having the problem, and then I took it out of my pocket a few hours into my shift to check a text and it was working like usual.
I dunno. Magic I guess.

Could be that the cpu got underclocked for a while?
Using any cpu overclocking apps?

Guy who did a waterproof test on the Moto G encountered the same issues you described. As the phone dried out the screen slowly came back to life and became responsive again.
I suspect that you have moisture egress into the device, it could cause a strange capacitance differential affecting the digitiser, or even just a short.
Have you used the phone, in shower room, in pocket while exercising. In rain. Taken it from cold outdoors, into very warm indoors. All these things can cause moisture to condense inside the device.
If it happens, the symptoms will reduce as the phone completely dries out...

Facing Same Issue
Hello, I am also facing same issue only when my Moto G is connected to Wall Charger [Be it switched Off or On]. Can any body please help me resolve this issue? Or Do we actually have a solution for the problem stated?
same issue
Hi i have the same issue, please someone knows how to fix it or why it happens ? In my phone the problem appears and solve for itself but after a while the problem appears again
I'm also in the same boat..

still not working
I made the multitouch test and all works fine, it seems like is a software problem but i don't know wich one is failing. I hide the navbar with gravitybox, could this be the cause of the problem ?
definitely your charger I had the same problem when using a generic charger... try a different charger

this behavior happens to me with stock keyboard in whatsapp, after star typing and pressing the "a" key in loop, press the home button and start multitouch test (YAMT) and the screen area that is not responding is where the "a" key is located....
after a while the screen start to response in a normal way...
i tried swift keyboard and guess what.... the same issue again....
this is weird...
note: try to remove the grip shell
Solved,
Okay so I had this issue just now and i got worried, but there is nothing to worry about. The problem is in the charger, use a different charger
my 2 have done this a couple times and I think they were charging at the time. I unplugged the charger but no change. Then I removed the silicone cover I put on and it immediately worked fine both times I did it. I did not turn phone off or reboot. It did not start this trick until I put the covers on. Covers barely touch the screen on the sides. When I replaced cover it still worked until the next time it became unhappy with the cover. Anybody else...................
Update-just checked my other phone. I removed cover w/o unplugging and it did not restore it. Unplugged charger and it was fine. Almost seems like both are contributing to it. more research necessary..........
Maybe the phone just wants to be fondled???????

HELP! Lately my Nexus 5 has been acting up. Touchscreen slows down, and scrolling and selecting becomes buggy and irresponsive. Somethimes I’ll scroll and it lags a bit. Some other times It will close too damn fast. The overall feed back of the screen it just feels off.
This seems to happen on all apps and homescreen too. It comes and goes.
Anybody knows if this is a hardware or software issue? Since it comes and goes I have been thinking might be software.
I have tried running a memory boost and closing all apps and it just keeps happening. Any hints?
Im running stock KitKat 4.4.2 using Nova Launcher

A memory booster won't help, if anything it could make it worse. Best is to try a factory reset/reflash stock and if it still acts up then it might be a hardware issue.

This is a common problem, if it happens whenever the device is charging. It happens on other devices as well and seems to be hardware related.
If it also happens when you aren't charging, I would try a factory reset.

Actually I just did quick test with my nexus 7's charger and the lag is gone. I guess it is just low output chargers that make the lag or just some certain chargers...
Edit: just to add the specs of the chargers. The one with lags is 1A output charger by insmat and the one without problems is 2A output charger by ASUS. I can't test the original LG charger atm...

i had that happen to my g1, nexus one, and nexus s. it took me a few weeks ti figure out it was the charger for the g1. after, figuring out a fix for my nexus one and ns was easy
Thanks everyone! I had not realized that only happened when charging. Will change the charger asap. Thanks again!
usually its when we re charging, but if always then you are definitely on the wrong charger...change it or it could even cause more damage.
Sometimes it happens to me also while NOT charging the phone (but anyway, when I'm using the phone in a really intensive way).
It also starts losing Wi-Fi connection for 2-3 seconds, after what it reconnects to the access point. And about after 10-15 min it lose it again.
