So its almost 2014 and there is still no definitive word on the whereabouts of the the update to the
galaxy note 10.1 2012 edition. Any body else wander what is going on. It was support to come in November
or December well December is almost gone and still no update. So has anybody else heard anything new?
There not going to update our notes until they sale enough of the 2014 model.

Samsung has made such a mess of supporting exynos-4 that I can't really see how they are going to backtrack to it from exynos-5, and even 3 at this point.
If you look around in some Developer forums, many Devs have flat out given up on working with Samsung with exynos-4.
Samsung haven't shown any motivation to further develop for that particular setup. I hope I'm wrong. Some evidence, namely no update as of Dec 23, 2013, and certain custom ROM's all but dumping development completely (aka tired of hitting endless brickwalls with Samsung/exynos-4 and falling behind) seems to be supporting what we don't want to hear. They've made it to where it's not just an issue of porting and clean up.
Like I said, I hope they prove me wrong. I honestly do, but if Samsungs word is basically worthless as far as developers are concerned, how should we start to feel? I think the writings been on the wall for a while now unfortunately.
I doubt that we'll get any update on this device.

That and the rule book.
It was originally scheduled for November BEFORE all of the delays caused by bugs on the S3 and Note 2. I'd say it was pushed back 45ish days. I don't see it upgraded past 4.4 after the upcoming 4.3 patch UNLESS 4.5 (or 5.0) is a small upgrade like the last 2-3 updates.

Where did you hear this? I've never heard any word about the note 10.1 getting any firmware updates in the year I've had it, other than incremental 4.1.2 updates. Not to mention the fact that samsung just released the new note 10 and have no financial incentive to update our note 10 beyond giving us the 4.1 we got last year. Remember, we've already had one major update, we went from 4.0 ics to 4.1.2. While it may have been a while back, samsung has rolled out at least 5 updates of 4.1 alone. On top of the fact that the exynos 4412 soc had some serious compatibility problems with android 4.2, which is why the s3 and note 2 jumped from 4.1 to 4.3. All of this combined with the fact the new note 10 is only on 4.3 and you're either talking no 4.3 update at all, or several months at the soonest before it'd be even be considered in my opinion. And as an owner of a note 3 on 4.3, a mega i9205 and note 8.0 on 4.2.2. And the note 10 n8013 on 4.1.2, there is very little difference other than touchwiz updates to widgets and such, and that's on phone layouts, so there would be even less difference on the note 10. Finally, I for one don't want to go to 4.3 if it means I lose floating multi window, which is one of the main reasons I haven't bought a note 10 2014.

Dude are you serious? The exynos 4412 was the best soc of 2012....obviously you've never seen the amount of development for the s3 or note 2. I own an att note 2 i317, a carrier based model, not even the interantional unlocked which gets evem more dev support, and there is a ridiculous amount of roms, kernels, and mods for thst phone...i mean its as strong now as when it released last year, and we're almost 3 months past the note 3 release. I'm not trying to be a jerk but you are either woefully uninformed, or mistake the lack of development for our note 10 tab for lack of development for the exynos 4412 which is completely wrong flat out.
In addition, the fact that samsung spent months, nearly a year trying to mend the mess that was android 4.2 is not Samsungs fault, or not solely their fault . Google made some ludicrous choices with 4.2 and the entire 4.2 firmware and almost every device, even ones designed and released on 4.2 all had serious problems. Just google nexus 7 4.2 issues, and read the hundred of thousands of posts about various issues, all of which have neither touchwiz nor the exynos 4412. The fact is 4.2 was completely garbage, and was only salvaged by samsung on a few devices after months and months of alterations...I've decompiled my 4.2.2 from my mega i9205 and compared it to my buddies nexus 7 with stock 4.2.2 and the differences are so vast, all the way down to the source codes that the two are hardly recognizable. Like i said not trying to be a jerk here but "the writings on the wall" thst you have no clue what your talking about. Samsung do android better than google hands down, because while it may take them longer to release updates, at least they actually function and function well as opposed to Google and their nexus kine of alpha build kits.

Really? No floating multi windows!? FTW!? That sucks! What I wanted was the compatibility with Gear, but now when I have Sony SW2, Im happy, that they didn't update. Gear sounds worse day by say (when reading comments and tried it myself). But what I needed was the compatibility with SNote.
It the a4.3 ever comes, Im thinking now to keep a412. Floating multi windows is *must have* on these days. Why did they remove that!?

I have a gear and it's amazing. .. All you have to do is root the gear and flash null rom then it's fully compatible with any device so note 10.1 2012 works perfect with it. Second I agree the new note 10 is cool but not worth giving up my original note 10...no floating mw. ..no front facing stereo speakers. .. no click between pen and eraser.... and not much benefit in the hardware at this point or software since 4.3 is a largely on incremental update vs 4.1.

Ps...I have Sony sw1... and the gear is a thousand times better... just honestly the gear is a full android device. Now I admit outta the box the gear seems somewhat limited but once you root and get null rom it'll blow your mind...I wore the smart watch 1 time...I haven't gone a day without my gear since Oct 4.

I bet Gear is great as it is if you want to play with it alot. But unlike Gear, Sw2 looks classy enough with its metal band to wear it even with a suit. And because I use chemicals at work, I cant keep any plastic/silicon band on my wrist. This was already disappointing when I saw that the cam was in the band. So Gear would be just another toy in my bag with my N8000 and not really helping me at all :/ I waited an half year that watch to get it! But what did Samsung? An incompatible (plastic) watch with too much stuff in it and it is only certified as IP55 (sw2 is ip57). For me living in a place raining and snowing that was also disappoiting fact. I just needed a watch to notify me (N8000 in a bag all the time). Like I said, I was lucky to get sw2, but some others need something else

Ahh I got you...ironic as I too work in a Chem lab lol...im a senior getting my degree in biochemical pharmacology, and obviously work in the lab several hours per day. That aside, I bought gear for the speaker phone an text notification, without the need for speakerphone or replying to texts then yea they're on equal ground. And then it's just a subjective matter of taste for the look which I really like my orange gear but it's not exactly date material, that's when I bust out my real watches lol.

There is absolutely no reason that we shouldn't be getting Kitkat. I purposely bought a device without cell capability for faster software updates. Seems that was dumb.
Despite their horrible software updates/communication I continue to be a Samsung customer, until I see something that competes with the come along, at which point I am done with Samsung.
Quite sad really.
I think so, the new functions of note 10.1 2013 are useless. I only trt them when i buy them
the more days without an update goes by, the higher the probability is that i wont ever buy a smartphone/tablet by samsung again. Too bad their hardware stucks in almost every smartphone. we're are talking of a 600€ device (n8000 release day price) and samsung behaves like the galaxy note 10.1 (2012) has never existied.

I just want to share the news that samsung starts rolling Android 4.2.2 update for Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (GT-P3100), with features from GS4 and so on.
I think we have the chance to get updated too, we much premuim software.
as for P6810, samsung might passed 4.1.2 to update you with 4.2.2 .. I know that all of you are pissed, but i think it's possible for you too.

I love how they are pushing all these updates for the 2nd biggest turd of a tablet they make...... Yet they took a shovel and covered up the 6810 with a pile of dirt. Ya know, while they are at it..........Why dont they revive the Samsung Moment slider phone and shove JellyBean on it too. Hooray for that!!!!

We have not even got Jelly Bean for the 6810 yet. Samsung are hopeless.
I dont think that we will see further updates for the Galaxy Tab 7.7.
I assume that neither JB for 6810 nor some other JB Versions for 6800 wil be released by Samsung.

The 4.1.2 they released for the 6800 caused a number of issues, and seemed rushed out the door.
With the recent upgrades to 4.2.2 (Tab 2 7) , and the fact that Samsung already mentioned that dual-core based system will end with 4.2.2, I'm hoping that they have decided to skip 4.1.2, and provide one last update to 4.2.2
Having said that, I don't see myself buying other Samsung products. For what seems forever, service provider & manufacturer's blame each other, for the slow pace of updates.
This and other issues (Apple injunctions, etc.) are not valid arguments, where Wi-Fi only devices are concerned. If you sell a premium product for a premium price, then you should support it.
FWIW I've been running the 4.1.2 ROM for some time now and it's been fine. Yes, the 7.7 is EOL. But then even as is I still use it daily. Fine tab. Does everything I require for entertainment. Actually, while I'm sure I'll go through many tabs in the future I somehow doubt I'll part with the "little tab that scared Apple". lol

Yeah, as someone who just took the plunge to do a self-update to 4.1.2 I can say that the Tablet is still absolutely great to use, even if not the latest Android version.
However, as it was sold as such a premium product, Samsung SHOULD have kept it up to date with Android releases. The JB 4.1.2 is pretty much unofficial and is an 'at your own risk' option for most users (and some have experienced real problems).
Whilst I love the hardware dearly, seeing Samsung abandon it like they did has given me pause about buying more Samsung Android devices. I recently upgraded my phone and chose a Sony product instead of the various Samsung offerings (e.g. S4 mini in my case) specifically because I just do not trust Samsung to issue timely updates or even keep supporting their devices properly. Also it doesn't help that Touchwiz is not a great UI customisation - the Sony effort is much better - and frankly I'd have went for something pure Android like a Moto G if it had supported MicroSD. I'm about to buy a large 10" tablet and I won't even consider Samsung, it'll be between the Sony Tablet Z and probably the new Nexus 10 if Google ever release it....
Samsung really owe it to the 7.7 userbase to do one last update to at least 4.3, preferably 4.4 KitKat. Remember that the Tab should really have shipped with ICS but it wasn't ready so Honeycomb 3.2 was just a placeholder, ergo I wouldn't even count the long-delayed 4.0.4 release as an update. Given that 4.1.2 was only for a few Aisan markets, for most global users the 7.7 has never received a true update. Shame on you Samsung!!!!

Absolutely agree! Have you tried Danielhk's 4.4 ROM? Installed in a few days ago and it's pretty awesome!
As far as updates if I recall correctly the 7.7 was THE tab that scared hell outta Apple moving them to ramp up suing Samsung. I can imagine Samsung pulling back on updates for that reason possibly? Still screws over the people who shelled out $500-$600+ for the tablet though.
But then now with the 4.4 port from Daneilhk.....the GTab 7.7 just shines!!!
Its interesting comments which I think many agree with. To get ourselves to 4.1.2 most people around the world
with a few exceptions of the Asian counties, had to do a manual flash. Our device is still very capable as compared
to older and current devices. Yet we need some movement with the software.
My recent email to Samsung didn't offer much help. They said that no planned software update is known for this tab
and that my tab should still be using Android 3.2.
I didn't bother to make further contact, in fact my tab is supposed to be on Official ICS. As far as I've been
able to gather, 4.2.2 seems the most stable as reported below. I'm hoping to replacement my current 4.1.2
with this soon. Most of all I want stability, without much missing functions or problems and of course
having a p6800 device, we need sim access, calls and mobile data.
4.3 / 4.4 just seems to far away for the near future. Maybe we'll have a final kit kat for christmas
next year before everyone retires from the 7.7 development. We can hope (but our prayers won't change samsung's minds)

i saw a list that samsung wanted to develope 4.2.2 fot them and there were no 7.7 between them,
i dont know why samsung daesnt like 7.7,
its has more power that tab 2 and even tab 3,
its lighter,thiner,and powerfull, and even the samsung alled it amazing,a diffrent magic,
every body that has this tab loves it and it cant sell it,so do i,
i wanted to sell my tab and buy a tab 3 but when i saw that, it was so thick like a book, and with a 1.2 Ghz dual core cpu it was like a 800mhz singel, i hated,
when i saw (( UpInTheAir )) developed a rom with multi window with 4 app on the screen at the same time and floating mod,
i changed my mind, i wont ever sell my tab,
it actuall is a part of me, my life,
i really cant live without it,
but i cant understand samsung's problem with tab 7.7,
why?????

no problem, with the litigation with Apple, Samsung has discontinued development.
Then when it was decided that Samsung could continue to sell the device, it was too late.
My opinion is that it promises to take legal action. In January I will start. I'm not used to being fooled in this way.

There are lots of regions which Samsung have ignored. We can wait but if not new Official Jellybean for 7.7 Users by August 2014 then I think its safe to assume samsung will leave its customers out in the cold. Do we really want wait 8 months for Jellybean though?
I suspect that if Daniel's 4.4 becomes fully functional and stable we might just say you know what, Samsung... don't bother. Still if you can live with custom roms 4.2.2 is stable but you certainly need an additional memory mod like Pure performances to help speed it up and avoid lag, its where I'm @, Might be keeping still for now.

I'm over it. Samsung's track record indicates there won't be any 4.2.2 update for any model.
For those still procrastinating (don't mean you @xaadilhx, just move on and appreciate what users in our forum make with what we've got to work with.

Don't you find it funny that after 2 years from the 7.7 release. Apple came out with the mini which is a blatant ripoff of the 7.7.
And now they have the iPad Air which is just a bigger version of the 7.7. COPYCAT!
Exactly my feeling. Samsung should be brave and release a 7.7 2. But in the android update market Samsung sucks big time.

No AMOLED on the Tab Pro makes it an imperfect replacement. If you want a LCD screen, you can think about the Tab Pro or the Xperia Z Ultra (called a phablet, but at 6.4 inches it's a very good small tablet)

And the answer seems to be obvious: NO.
That's Sammy's policy. N10.1 was not selling as expected - so let's show its users a middle finger. After being a Sammy's loyal client for almost 10 years - that's the absolute end, as it is the 4th device which was left without serious updates (other than cosmetic ones...) in less than a half-year after debut.

I actually work with a Samsung Solutions Architect, and according to a conference call that I had this morning regarding a beta I am running on the Note 3 and Knox. Samsung is in the final stages of testing with Samsung Knox and the Galaxy Note 10.1, the problem any Carrier branded Note 10.1 has is that IT IS THE CARRIER who says when the updates get pushed out. Samsung has a 4.3 update for "legacy" devices, but with the partnership they have with the carriers ATT, Tmobile VZW and Sprint, the carriers are the ones who are not signing off on the updates. In the case of the Gt-N8013 I have NO clue what the hold up is besides the beta test for knox that I am part of. During the conference call I asked the Director of SEA Knox Development team when this will be brought to the 2012 version of Galaxy Note 10.1 and his reply is they are aggressively working on the update and it should be done soon. Now I know that doesn't mean much but at least it shows Samsung didn't just drop the 2012 version they just "need" more time to test it out. That is actually why I am part of the SEA KNOX BETA that will run the first qt of the new year.

Thats why Sammy shouldnt release so many devices. It costs them more money and more time to update since they have so many devices. I bought this tablet because I thought it was their flag ship tablet that means it would get update faster but I was totally wrong. I wont buy any ****ty tablet from Samsung again.

Basic answer with all upgrades is you may get them . But you have no entitlement to them you never bought them in the first place . Plus at some stage the apps may be ported .

Well I think you have your "right" mixed up with your "want" Samsung doesn't owe you anything for buying the 2012 version of the galaxy note 10.1 they are under no obligation to provide you with the the new features of the 2014 edition. If and I do mean if we get them, then that was mighty nice of Samsung. Otherwise if it is so important to get the new features I suggest porting the rom over to these devices. Don't get me wrong I would like the features as well considering I am the admin for my job and I have deployed 800+ 2012 Galaxy Note 10.1's to our students and staff. I don't remember Samsung saying you get X amount of updates on x amount of years when you buy a device.

Yes, Samsung didnt say anything and it doesnt need to even say anything. But when they chose Android OS they knew that every companies working with Android know that everybody having an android device are expecting to get updates - it is a nature of android. It developes fast.. What do you expect to happen if Apple did the same? "Sorry, but no new ios for u, just buy a new iWhatever?" Even the dumbiest sheep will be lost...
As you probably have seen it in a real life too, Samsung just has too many devices to kerp updated and they still dont stop. Every week they launch a new device, just changed something just a little bit to get a new toy - today it was a some model with a screen size 8.2", tomorrow they launch it again, but it will have a 8.3" screen. On next week they change it a little bit again and it is now called "pro". How can you even think about any updates nowadays!? It's crazy already, they are just flooding the markets!
And what comes to updates, i give a **** what carriers want or not. Remember that people live outside usa too. In Europe most of us dont have any carrier linked, bloatware devices. Like i am using an international version (nordic actually) of N8000, and no carriers. Why isnt this one updated? No need to wait carriers and their bloatware or anything... It is just an excuse. I only hope Samsung has faced the problem they did all by themselves flooding with billion devices. Unfortunately customers are those who pay the price!

I have a Gear 1 and just got a Gear 2 four days ago--I've been playing with it a lot. So far, I like the 1 better. Tizen may be a great OS but it has limited support/development compared to Android Wear. I can't (yet) side load apps and will likely never be able to use Wondershare MobileGo as I did with the 1. My ebay notifications don't work as they did flawlessly on the 1. The 2's vibrate is very weak even on the strong setting. Battery life is much better on the 2 but I never minded charging once a night. While I'm sure there is a CPU speed difference, I haven't noticed it at any significant rate. As far as looks go, I personally liked the quirkiness of the 1. It gave it personality. Having the home button on the front is more intrusive than on the side as it was on the 1, particularly since there's no lock screen. It was also nice to swipe down on the screen to get to the camera or whatever--now I have to hit the button twice.
The media hype made the 2 sound like it was the second coming. For me, it is far from being ready for prime time. In truth, the 2 is a version 1 with the obligatory bugs that will almost certainly be worked out in the near future. For those who have the patience to wait for new firmware, roots, etc. It will probably be a great device. I'll probably give it a few more weeks as I really want to like it.
Well Gear 1's FW testing has began to let it run Tizen. So swiping down will go away there aswell ...

GG2's hardware is better than the Gear 1 however the software is way limited compared to Null or the other options you can do with the gear. IMHO.
Once Android or Null or Android Wear is on the Gear 2 then it will be the best smartwatch but until then it's just the best hardware.
So what will android wear bring that the gear2 can't already do?

Remember its still a fresh OS . In time we will see development. But honestly I had the gear 1 for a week decided to switch to the gear 2 . Null rom os cool and all but dont really see the need to root a watch . Battery life is way more important. And mind you I pretty much hack or mod anything hackable. From phone to my pc. Which benefit me and save me money but a watch on the other hand can do alot on its own. But we are entitled to our opinion. Price is steep though lol.

Personally, I think switching to Tizen was a mistake. Time will tell. As it is, the application selection is abysmal for a smart watch that's effectively been out for 8 months. And the quality/functionality of many apps is even worse. Just read some of the reviews. But I still love the Gear watches and think we are at the cusp of some pretty exciting developments within the next few years. When Apple releases the iwatch, that's when the technology is really going to heat up between the giants.
I agree Tizen was a mistake....because now I think they will be pressured into switching to Android Wear! This will really confuse and dilute the developer community

I said "effectively." To the average consumer, they don't know from Tizen to Android to Playschool. All they know is that the 2 (the new version of the 1) is light on apps.

they won't be pressured into anything, all samsung phones are moving to Tizen as well... possibly not all, but the galaxy S series is.

I´m agree with your and my neo´s will come back to amazon, too! I have the first sonyericsson mbw-100, across the new other sony liveview (a disaster) , the gear original and de new gear 2 neo, and I´m thinking to return it and the the moto actv or wait to moto 360, even I can recover my old gear it was the best of all and almost I can flash and use the customised rom, till get a new one.
New OS and coming from samsung what stopped me from getting SG2 , samsung dont really care about updating software more than making more devices to sell, thats why my next device will be nexus. they make Great hardware but updating/improve software is their last priority.
Its not about rooting or pushing apps if its use android , but they dont fix many bugs , so if ya in android you may find devs to do it, but as new OS , few will find

After using the G2 for another week, I've got most everything worked out. All alerts are working and I've kind of settled into it. I now like it better than the G1 in many respects. Most likely when the LG Android wear or something better is released, I'll sell the G2 and get something else. There's just too little support for Tizen and the apps aren't flying into the store. At least with Android you didn't have to depend on the store and could side load.

Google Maps and Google Now. Both pretty huge as Google Now is far faster and more powerful than Samsung's solution. I'd have bought the Gear 2 today if Samsung had gone Android Wear. My experience with proprietary Samsung solutions such as "S-note" is that its sucks and it will continue to suck.

I had the Turn By Turn app on my Gear 1 and found a major major problem with GPS based apps on a watch! If they don't put a GPS receiver in the watch and your phone is in your pocket....then nothing will work! So if, for example you wanted to have a walking aid in London to find an address, you would have to be holding your phone in your hand anyway!

First off it has always been my experience that samsung tablets get fewer updates than their phones do, and that it's worse with US carrier variants of a Samsung tablet.
With Google updating their core applications via play store updates these days the frequency of device updates doesn't concern me much. This tablet is stable and quick so I'm satisfied with what I have for now. I'm looking forward to an update to touchwiz but that won't likely happen until well after Android L comes out.
I don't know if this is obvious to everyone but many manufacturers tie significant software updates to product releases to give the new products some thunder. I wouldn't expect an update to the rest of the Note line until the Note 4 is out on the street. The same thing happened to the Note 10.1 2014 which saw a stall in updates while this tablet was being released and got its KitKat update after the Note Pro hit the streets.
This thing already ships with 4.4.2. There is no newer Android version. And there is no point in an update if there is nothing to add and nothing severe to fix. It's that simple.
4.4.3 won't come out until the Note 4 ships with it. After that, it's the S5 first, then the Note 3 and S4, and then the rest. And unless 4.4.3 adds something special for tablets, don't expect it to be rolled out to any tablet immediately.
Samsung's 4.4.2 is a pretty mature build, no big updates are needed. We probably won't see an update till Android L (5.0?) rolls out. And yes all Exynos 5420 devices will get upgraded. My suggestion is to stop worrying about updates and just enjoy your device.

I'd never use the words all or definitely in anything having to do with Samsung. The N10.1-14, Pro's, and S's are all using near identical h/w yet all are running different versions of TW with different feature sets and varying versions of Samsung's s/w (EG: My Files, S Note, etc.) Lately, updates seem to be focused on the OS rather than bringing newer or more current functionality to older devices. The Note II didn't get any of the Note 3's enhancements, the N10.1 any of the N10.1-14's, and the N3 didn't get any of the SGS5's; even though they are all running 4.4.2. Hell, Samsung's rolling the updates they do provide out at a snail's pace with the N10.1 and N10.1-14's 4.4.2 update still missing from many markets even though the initial release was months ago.
The N12 was most likely always intended to be a niche device. All the market analysis says 8-9" tablets are now the sweet spot going forward with sales slowing down considerably across all sized tablets based on phablets being bought (especially in Asia) as alternatives. Samsung's tablet strategy over the past year has been bizarre. The N10.1-14 was announced and shipped in November of last year without nary a leak of its impending arrival. Then the Pro's were announced with much fanfare and the less than four month old N10.1-14 never mentioned again by Samsung. Then four months after that the S' orphaned the Pro's.
So it doesn't seem Samsung's tablet sales strategy is that solid and now between Wi-Fi, 3G, and LTE versions of multiple 8ish", 10.1" and 12.2" tablets all running different versions of s/w they've created a quagmire when it comes to updates; especially considering each of those tablets is also running different s/w across God knows how many regions each.
It would certainly make sense based on its selling price that the N12 would be a front runner for updates but its sales volume is well below other newish Samsung tablets. Samsung's logic appears random (did anyone expect the over two-year old N10.1 to receive 4.4.2?) hence avoiding terms like all and definitely.
Thank goodness the software and hardware these days is better than the first couple of generations of tablets.

And nordic one, N8000, is still missing that update - it is still running 4.1.2 - althought 4.4.2 came already on may in Germany.
There is no logic with Samsung. And im not going to follow that illogical train anymore...

Google has already released Linux 3.10 kernel config files for Exynos and Qualcomm SOCs. Work has already started to bring Android L to our devices.

Google releasing s/w Samsung could use in their development has nothing to do with the update schedule for existing devices. Exynos 5433 is already out. It's more likely to appear with Android L first and in a new device. The results of Samsung's access to new Android code and the timing of existing devices receiving it via an update has always been piss poor. What's changed?

This is why I have never believed the rumors of the Nexus line being discontinued. I can't imagine android development continuing without a vanilla device build out in the wild unencumbered by all of the bull$h!t antics of not wanting the updates of software on one device to affect the initial sales of a new one. At least that's the impression samsung puts off; for all I know there's only a couple of developers on staff and they aren't allowed to develop for anything BUT the next device.

I agree. Add to the business practice of forcing people to buy new devices to get the latest OS and/or Samsung features that they couldn't have possibly created a more complex s/w eco-system for they themselves to maintain. They release a slew of devices back-to-back in hopes that some "hit" and sell in droves. In the wake of that strategy are hundreds of devices, in Wi-Fi, 3G, and LTE, each with regionalized s/w.
Using the 12.2" tablets, with and without S Pen, as an example, there are probably hundreds of s/w versions to support. So business practices aside rolling out a world-wide update to a single tablet line becomes a nightmarish process. They did it to themselves and it's going to bite them in the ass some day. As an example, I'd normally be first-in-line for the Note 4. As it stands, my N3 and N10.1-14 have pretty common s/w between them which makes bouncing and sharing between them pretty easy. I'm not getting a Note 4 because the odds of my N10.1-14 every being common with it s/w wise is a million to one. And performance wise there's nothing wrong with either of them. Maybe if there's a N10.1-15 that's common with the Note 4 I'll get both but unlike in the past where there were huge gains to be had in moving to Samsung's "next big thing" there really aren't anymore. And with the high-end in tablets and smartphones maturing people thinking like I do will kill Samsung's earnings. Love the products; particularly the Note-series. Becoming less and less a fan of the company every day.
Say it ain't so Barry . . . I'm waiting on the Note 4 to switch to from my Nexus 4. You really think I may have issues between the two (Note 4 and my Note Pro?). Truth be told other than having synced dropsync folders for Lecturenotes I'm not entering into the Note 4 with the expectation of sharing things between the two devices. BTW I have no intention of ever getting rid of the nexus 4 at this time LOL. I'll switch between the two phones.

Well I remain hopeful that the update will occur. However, I don't understand the need to be on the very bleeding edge of Android versions. With my experience with my Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Nexus 5, they usually introduce more bugs than they fix.
As long as Samsung fixes any current bugs in 4.4.2, my device can keep chugging along with this version. Going to 5.0 might open up a can of worms that may make the device much less stable and a pain to use.

Everything will probably still be compatible but newer versions (EG: S Note, My Files, TW) will have different interfaces, menus, and controls. I don't want (personally) to have to jump between different products that more than likely do the same thing. My N3 and N10.1-14 still have menu capacitive buttons which I'm use to. Having one device with a task capacitive button and the other a menu button would drive me crazy. I'm a productivity user and having to think about doing the same thing differently across my devices would drive me nuts. So I'll upgrade in pairs or not at all. Think about the N10.1-14, Pro's, and S'. With the exception of M-UX being omitted from the N10.1-14, they all are functionally equivalent. Yet all are running different versions of TW with different (by age) versions of stock s/w. What bothers me may not bother others but intentionally leaving older (but still current) devices behind feature wise doesn't strike me as a way of retaining customers. How many people will ditch a $600ish tablet and buy a new one just to get a newer version of s/w? Especially when 95% of what both do is common? Samsung's logic baffles me some times.

Is it dead? far from it. If anything, the recent and continued price drops are building the market share for this device. I ddon't think it has even begun to come close to what it's eventual user installed base is going to be. Dont let the lack of Samsung updates worry you

This thing is way too powerful and just plain awesome to be dead. The bloat ware is a resource hog but fix that and you have one of the best devices I have been lucky enough to call myself an owner of.
There are always updates that we want but what issues are you facing specifically that have you waiting for an update. Just curious because mine has really been impressive from day one, and i have owned all 3 note phones and now the Pro so I wasn't expecting to be too impressed.

Every second day it seems Samsung pushes on my device some "Samsung" bloat they think I want, I which I can never uninstall and if I try to disable it, it will turn back on.
They feel they have a great, interface..... Without Nova Launcher I will be lost.

Not really... Samsung is simply the best hardware manufacturer, best amoled display (always the brightest every year), best camera (yes other manufacurer are building nice ones too), really good build quality overall, Samsung theme store (to establish android vanilla look, who else is featureing this?). You don't need to debloat since you don't neeed to use the samsung apps. Debloating can lead to increased battery drain.
As they said above, usually the best hardware for droid phones at that point in time and the Samsung hype makes it same league as iPhone so anyone who dislikes Apple usually go Samsung if they don't go HTC, or moto. For me I have owned the majority of every galaxy s and these phones with custom roms always seemed to be the best droid phone on the market in terms of battery life and performance.

Probably not worth it if you use those features, I think some of the roms can be ran with no root cause there based on stock and still use that stuff but I'm not sure about Knox. I've only had this s7 flat for a week and tried, bobcat rom, slim stable 2.0, and I'm on ultimate nougat now. I'm really liking ultimate nougats look with the theme,battery life so far, and the debloat.
These 3 seem stable but there's a ton of roms to choose from so you would have to test for yourself to determine your best and read/ sift through the threads and see what people are saying about the rom.
You can disable all bloat using a package disabler, which works without root. Android 8.0 is coming in 2 weeks, and I don't know why you even want 8.1 because there are almost no changes to talk about. Even 8.0's most notable feature PIP has been available in Samsung devices for a long time.
Your problems about rooting and custom ROMs are only because it's a work phone.
It looks like you didn't research any of your problems before coming to rant here :/

We (as a household) have a rather large number of Samsung devices - the S7 is, in fact, the first one that was NOT purchased deliberately (I got it as a gift) and replaced the far-older Galaxy Nexus (which I got from my mother). We also have two Galaxy tablets and four Samsung HDTVs (and two Samsung optical drives). Why all the Samsung hardware? Three words - bang for buck. Look at ALL the areas in which Samsung makes hardware (from Android to PC to appliances they have (and rather consistently) offered top-ten bang-for-buck - and not just in the US; if you do that, your products will sell. Are they perfect? No; however, who is? Even the folks that have DINGED Samsung admit that it is often due to issues with a specific Samsung product or a specific lack (in the case of the S7, it's about the locked bootloader). Still, is an unlocked bootloader that big a plus on the devices that compete with the S7 and up? How many of those devices have issues WORSE than those of the S7 and above - even with the locked bootloader (such as the Pixel and Pixel2)?

8.0 Not in Canada and I do not know if Rogers ever plans on it. "Think I seen somewhere Summer 2018, oh sure"
BK Package Manager only disables and freezes, nothing that you can not do without buy it. "Can not uninstall and with only 5Gig left it would be good to get rid of some bloat"

I'm also in Canada and usually we get updates without delay after their release from Samsung. From what I've seen (on their OS upgrade schedule), they only announce the release dates for updates a couple of days before we actually get them. My source is another phone carrier in another country: http://www.guncelmiyiz.com/akilli-telefon .
For the bloatware, you can uninstall all updates and keep the stubs (which will remove most of the app), and then freeze the app using AdHell or SABS. Although there isn't much bloatware to start with on phones in Canada.

They may not have significantly better hardware now, but it was still the best of its time. The camera was the best until the Pixel came out half a year later. There were no compromises with this phone, and as much as you try make hardware features not seem not as important, they make a difference when choosing between something like a iPhone 6s/7 and another device.
And now I ask, how is anything of what you've said detract from the Android experience? Samsung may add features to Android, but they don't ever take away. I can also fully reskin Touchwiz to look like stock with any theme I like using Substratum and Nova Launcher. I also don't know why Android 8.1 is so important to you, as everything is just a UI change.
You probably shouldn't have bought a 2 year old non-Google phone if you wanted to jerk off to having the latest UI from Google. Also, you should realize that many people don't care about simple UI changes or optical differences. Maybe if we were iOS users, we would care, but this is a forum for Android enthusiasts.
Don't call others fanboys or other silly names just because they have different expectations when they buy a device.

I guess we will see in 2 weeks. Again, when is the last time Samsung announced the specific date for an update well before it releases?
I did not start the name calling but when "coradux" called me an imbecile, who would not take it personally.
I own a S7 now, will likely be buying a Pixel XL 3 "or whatever it is called in October"
Some people like me want quick updates and pure Android, others do not care.
