[Q] Gummy ROM - Lost Root - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Just installed Gummy ROM with Kitkat and everything appeared to be ok at first, but after installing PA-Gapps (Stock Package) I noticed that I didn't have root anymore? I re-installed Gummy again and used the Mini Modular package. I had root back! but this morning I woke up to an alert from Titanium Backup that it couldn't make an auto back up because it didn't have root .... I checked #superuser under settings and it shows that TiB and Rom Manger are on the allowed list which I added yesterday.
I'm just wondering what is breaking the root? Is it the Gapps? I did have SuperSU installed, but I uninstalled that this morning thinking there might be a conflict. Do I try re-installing Gummy ROM again?
Thanks for any help
Chris

There's a few options.
1- flash a custom kernel like lean or dkp. Then go to superuser, click on 'Apps and adb' and root access should be restored.
2- flash the su update: http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip

Thanks! I installed Lean kernel and restored root through superuser.

Lost root after installing latest MIUI

I obtained root via Odin as superoneclick didn't work. Then i flashed the latest version on MIUI and I lost root access. A couple of forums said superuser needs to be enabled in the settings. However when I opened superuser and looked under preferences there was no toggle to enable it.

Download rom manager. Go to download rom in rom mannager. Select superuser. Download superuser 2.3.6.3 efg. Install through cwm by reboot into recovery and select install zip from sd card. You dont need to wipe anything just install zip from sd card. To find it in cmw its under clockworkmod, then download, then downloads.androidsu.com, then superuser, then the zip. Reboot and you will have root. I had this problem also this worked for me.
Click thanks if this helped you.
Use GTGs ultimate unbricker and revert to stock with superuser rights and 3e recovery
Or...
Just try to use superoneclick

Yes that's what I was referring to. It supports the os not the rom. So its for the version of android not the rom you are using. I followed these steps and it worked flawlessly for me. I just checked in rom manager its in there. Make sure that you installed rom manager properly. I found these instructions in the miui thread in the android dev section.
I can confirm that this is working. There is no toggle though. Just open your programs that require root again and it will ask you whether to allow or deny root access.
Worked for me. FINALLY got Superuser access again. Thrilled
Thanks going to you!

SuperSu vs Super User

I have find a new supersu here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23427715
It is working good so far. Is it possible to remove the original super user bundeled with the custom roms. Or it can get some bad effect on custom rom.
Yerp saw this back in march...see it's been updated....
Thx
Probably not that great. Superuser is used universally for a reason.

guess you know this because.....
Actual it is....but you prob installed it and ran it huh?
I have deleted the /system/app/SuperUser.apk through Root Explorer
SuperSu is working fine.
(It should only be done after installing SuperSU from the market, then run it a popup will come up asking to update binary say yes.)
Bought it a while back to support Chainfire.

And you would be wrong. SuperSU comes from a well respected developer (Chainfire), and was created because Superuser has some major bugs that ChainsDD still hasn't fixed - such as su crashing if Android wasn't fully booted. (This was a pain for me for CM9 work when combined with their new "don't default to root in ADB" policy. ADB not going straight to root + broken su = pain)
Most I9100 and N7000 firmware developers have switched over, and when on Touchwiz firmwares I have too. Superuser's one advantage - it's open source which is why it is in CM9, I don't believe SuperSU is.

so for any ROM other than cm9, you recommend it? and if so, how would you recommend we install? i assume we need to install it first, then update, then delete the "regular superuser"?

Just for kicks, I installed it and tried it. This probably isn't the "proper" method and you could possibly mess something up but anyway here is what I did: 1. Delete superuser.apk from your app folder in /system. 2. In Play store download superSU and install. It will ask you to update binaries. Do it and you should be golden.
**Delete files at your own risk** I used Root explorer and make sure you mount app folder as r/w before deleting and then put it back to normal when you're done.
failed... on galnet miui.. time to reinstall old SU
I have flashed the infusion kernel and old super user came back again. It means rooted kernel got Super User pre-packed with them
Working great for me on the infuse and the nook. Both cm9. CF is a great dev.

This is one of the reasons I removed autorooting from my kernels.
In my case, I just flashed the CWM-flashable SuperSU package in CWM - It will automatically remove legacy Superuser I believe.
I personally would like to see it in CM9 (or at least the Superuser problems that caused Chainfire to write SuperSU fixed) - but I believe that the free version of Superuser is open source while SuperSU is not (I could be wrong about this).
I am not getting any source information of SuperSu. It seems closed source.

SuperSU is free on the market (there is also a $$ pro version). I'm seeing the same thing ndhanta is with the infusion kernel. There is a script called install_su.sh which does the old ef su install but I haven't been able to track down the parent script that calls it, or figure out where the $source and $dest variables are being set... I'm assuming it may be possible to stop the script from performing the su install by changing the modify date of the file specified in the $dest var.
Any chance a version of the 4.4.12 GB kernel might materialize that supports OC? (Or an update to the infusion kernel that removes the su installer?) This would help eliminate the issue...
I just Re-rooted my SGS2 and I now have SU and SuperSU ??
Im assuming that SuperSU was installed automatically with the root ROM??
I have puirchased the Pro Version of SU .. so is it safe to Remove SuperSU without messing something up ?
Yes no problem
Just update the binaries of SU.

[Q] Why is SU binary not updating after flashing CM10.1?

I'll start out by saying I'm a total noob at this whole android rooting process, hence why I'm posting a thread here rather than posting a reply in the appropriate thread. I rooted and unlocked my phone using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709&nocache=1
I opted for the "flashing rooted stock ROM" option.
As the title of my post states, after installing CM10.1, I open superuser to update binary and everything appears to work fine until the very end, it reads "making sure new su works...fail!". Now when I restore back to rooted TW, I have no problem updating the su binary. I've tried Superuser update fixer, I've installed busybox; i cant find any other solution on Google. Any ideas?
The CM file I downloaded is: cm-10.1-20130714-NIGHTLY-d2vzw.zip
Gapps file is: gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip

Make sure your using the latest version of the Superuser app, another option would be to try using SuperSU as an alternative to the Superuser app. Also is root access functioning normally for you?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda premium
Hi and thanks for the reply.
Yes superuser is up to date and I've tried supersu. Root seems to be functioning as I can open apps that require root access.
But when I try to restore missing apps via titanium backup, I get a msg saying "restore finished, 'x' elements failed". X being the number of apps I try to restore

When I open SuperSU, it has a list of apps with superuser status. Is that what you mean? I can run root apps and as far as I can tell they're functioning, with the exception of when I try restoring apps with Titanium Backup
Also, right after I flashed CM10.1, I made a backup right away. Not sure if it means anything, but If I wipe/reset and restore the CM10.1 backup, and the first thing I do is try updating the binary in Superuser, it reads "checking installed version: 9 com.Android.Settings", until I open SuperSU and "update binary". Then if I go to Superuser, it'll say "checking installed version: 1.41:Superuser" as I imagine it should. But at this point I still run into "making sure new su works..fail!"
Superuser has no problem updating when I'm on my rooted stock. I'm sure I messed up somewhere along the way while flashing CM10.1, I just don't know where

CM11 get rid of Superuser?

I'm using a CM11 ROM, and Superuser is giving me problems - throws up errors now & again. I like and want to use SuperSU, but Superuser is integrated into the ROM.
How can I get rid of Superuser and replace with SuperSU (preferably just using my phone, no ADB).

in the integrated superuser menu(can be found in device settings), if you open settings, you have the option of giving superuser access to "disabled" (by default it is apps only).
after disabling you just have to flash the supersu zip file(can be found on the supersu xda forum) via recovery mode. and you're done.
I flash the superSU.zip after flashing CM11 and Gapps so superSU is the main root app. Never had an issue.

In the SuperSU settings, there is a setting called something like "Respect Cyanogenmod Settings". Uncheck that.
Thnx alot! Works great! Now i just have to change that stupid google dialer that's in cm11

Thanks, been running v2.0 with v05 kernel for 2 days now, everything working great, and didn't lose any app-data in update process.
I'm trying to use a Tasker plugin called Secure Settings, but it can't request root permission, because SuperSU uses systemless root (according to forums).
Would you recommend switching to another superuser app, or manually switching to 'system-root' ?
Not sure this is the right thread for this question, but any suggestions?
MOD EDIT
Question removed from dev thread to here.
