I installed the gmail update that was in the market. Since I installed it, my contacts have not synced with gmail. I noticed my phone was not sleeping and started looking and I found that the google contacts were not syncing but would try and after a few minutes it would get this error message:
Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly
This has been happening for 7 days and after the sync fails it trys again and prevents the phone from sleeping. I have tried removing this update and I have been unable to. The only solution I know is to wipe the data and flash the rom again. Is anybody else having this issue?
I am on a stock ROM and i still get stupid issues revolving around Gmail. The giant POS keeps my phone trying to sync all day, so I use ATK to simply kill Gmail, then go into running applications and stop the sync.
It is VERY annoying.
I did some more testing and here is the strange thing. The mail and calendar sync with no problems. It is just the contact sync that causes this error. I made a change to a contact while logged into gmail on my pc. I enabled the contact sync and after a little while it gave me that error. However it did sync the contact and change I made on the pc was reflected in the contact now on my Evo. So I did it the other way and changed a contact on the Evo and synced again. After getting the error message I checked the contact on my pc and the change was there. So the contacts are syncing but something is not telling the evo that the sync was completed properly. Anybody have any ideas what is causing all of this? I have to leave it disabled for the contacts if I want my phone to sleep.
Though I have encountered the same problem as described but I would like to eliminate the connection issue first. My interest is to sync contact from gmail to phone (a Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.1). Normally I will not use 3g (GPRS is too expensive in this part of the world) but connecting thru wifi. I am very sure the connection is thru as I am able to access my gmail account thru the phone browser. I then get to phone menu and start syncing (setting, sync) but got the "sync is currently experiencing........" error message. My question is whether there is any restriction that sync must go thru 3g (GPRS) connection or not.

I have tried it connected via wifi, 3G, and 4G. For me it didn't matter what connection I was using I still get that sync error when syncing the contacts.
Well I thought everything was fine until today. I noticed my awake time was once again the same as the up time. I got to looking and not it appears as if the google calendar is hanging on the sync. It does not give an error like the contacts does but the sync icon never goes away. I unchecked it from the sync and the phone is sleeping again. I don't know what is going on. Time to factory reset and flash the rom again.
Same issue. I've flashed several different roms in the last few days. Any rom that has the updated Gmail app is causing my contacts to "loop" in the sync and eventually give me the "currently experiencing" error message with lovely "!" (thanks, needed that). Older versions work fine.
Here's the wierd part...
I added a contact online and it still synced perfectly to the phone.
I added a contact to the phone and it showed up online.
THUS - I believe this is a phantom error message.
Hope that helps. I'm annoyed myself. I wanna update but keep running my old backup since sync isnt an issue with the older gmail.
Slightly off topic, but task killers are completely worthless, especially on Froyo.

I believe the error message is invalid as well. But it keeps the phone from sleeping because it keeps trying to sync. The only fix is to enable it, sync, then disable the contacts from syncing. Has anybody been able to find out any information as to what is going on with it? I was wondering if it is something that we can report as a bug to either htc or google.
I'll be as brief as possible. If you need clarification, just ask. I don't expect to solve this problem quickly, but any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I cannot sync contacts with my main Live account (which is set up with Windows Live Domains). Whenever I leave the Contacts option checked, the phone displays "Attention required" after a few minutes of syncing, and then "Error 0x86000106". It also briefly displays "Contacts: 1/0".
Emails and appointments sync flawlessly on that account, and contacts syncing works flawlessly with *any other* accounts I have, even with another Live account with a custom domain.
Here's what I tried so far, without success:
- Posted this problem to the Microsoft Answers forum (no help)
- Hard resetted the phone
- Changed phone's time zone
- Changed phone's region and language
- Enabled logging (where's that log stored?)
- Removed and readded all my contacts (I have about 120 contacts)
- Tried syncing with just one or two contacts
- Tried syncing via both WiFi and OTA
- Tried changing some personal info on the account profile
I've actually found that error code on Microsoft's website, but they say it's related to Outlook/Exchange and Activesync (it's trying to sync a corrupted item, and removing the offender causes the sync to continue). However, I cannot imagine how that corruption could be possible as I am not using Outlook.
Any ideas? Is it possible to "clear" the account in any way?
Bump... Anything? Anyone? I had resetted the phone a few more times, still no luck.
Try this
Uncheck sync contacts, then sync the whole thing. Then check sync contacts and see if it works
wpxbox, thanks for the reply. I can't uncheck to sync contacts now because this is my primary ID (I can only uncheck email). However, I did some tests a while ago and used this ID as a secondary account - unchecking Contacts would yield a successful sync, but the error would come back if I check Contacts again.
Just as you said above, its probably trying to sync a corrupted contact, and removing the corrupted contact should let it sync successfully. It doesn't matter if you are using Outlook or not, the server itself is a Microsoft Exchange server, and very rarely, something like this happens.
More than likely, you'll have to find the offending contact and try to sync again.
I would export all my contacts, delete them from my Live account (clear it out completely), then separate the exported contacts into groups of 10 or 20 contacts each, and then import each group, and sync after each import. This will allow you to make sure your contacts all sync successfully, and if there is a corrupted one, you can narrow it down to the last group you imported of 10 or 20 contacts. Makes it easy to track down the culprit.
That would be a god way. Good idea
prjkthack, thanks for the reply but I already did that. Phone won't sync even with an empty contact list. Still could be a corrupt contact, but where would it be? I used Outlook to access the contacts list and see if something comes up but no luck either (btw, Outlook syncs flawlessly).
And before someone say it, I already contacted Microsoft about it but they just keep sending me back and forth between the Microsoft Answers team, the Windows Live Mobile team and the Windows Live forum without giving me any solutions at all.
Nothing? Oh well, I'm doomed....
On 2.3.4 my Exchange sync worked perfect, but after I got the 4.0.3 OTA installed I keep getting a message saying something about certain policies needs to be activated. The first time I OK’ed that, I got my SD card encrypted put the following times nothing happens, just a new sync error with the same policy message.
Maybe my exchange server requires a policy which is not supported on my phone (but why did it work on 2.3.4 – has some policies been removed in 4.0.3? Probably not!). To examine which policies are required, I tried the *#*#36245#*#* trick to enable the sync log, but that doesn’t seem to work on HTC Sensation (After typing the last *, the text field is cleared and no dialog is shown as expected).
I have tried to re-create the account, but same result.
Please help me fix this or provide a hint on how to debug
Thanks!
Contact HTC/Microsoft and see what they say
HTC Help: Remove battery and SIM card for 10 minutes. Didn't help :-(
Other ideas on how to trouble shoot this?
Does anybody know how to enable the log for Exchange Sync on HTC Sensation? (*#*#36245#*#* doesn't seem to work)
Thanks!

Hi,
You can try to re create the account without the sd installed.
Alternatively if you are rooted you can search the forum for the apks of the gingerbread rom security disabled.

Me too. The SD card is unlikely to be the culprit. I upgraded my Note to 4.0.3 DXLP5. Ten minutes after I noticed a flaw in connecting to Corporate Exchange Server. Because I use the phone to access work emails, I consider this a very serious flaw. After the upgrade, I had to use my other Android phone to access work emails. The Note is now handling all purely personal Google mails.
Flaw Observation:
Connection configuration to Exchange server was successful with expected security acknowledgement from server. Everything looks ok. However, sync did not seem to have taken place. The email app opened and stuck at loading emails. Zero Outlook emails, zero Contacts, and zero Calendar entry. And absolutely zero error message.
I'm having a similar issue. A few weeks after the official upgrade to ICS, the sync with my calendar stopped working. After playing with the sync settings a little, I did a hard reset and the calendar sync started working again.
But now, about 2 weeks after the hard reset, I have the same issue. Email and contacts are syncing with no problems but the calendar isn't.
I'm wondering if it could be an app I've installed that's causing the issue? Any suggestions?
I'm using a Sensation XE in Singapore on Singtel, syncing with Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync
Android 4.0.3
HTC Sense 3.6
Kerenel version 3.0.16-gda3fdfc
Hi There,
We have the same problem here (Hungary, T-Mo) on several HTC Sensation XE. Hope somebody will find a solution for this.

Exchange auth
I've received the same instructions however I also receive an item in the notifications bar asking me to activate the security policy. Essentially, it forces you to have a pin set up on your phone - pattern is not acceptable. I've done this and gotten it working for me, nothing needed to be done with the sd card
good luck
I have an Omnia W which I updated a couple of days ago. But now I noticed that the GoogleMail App that came pre-installed crashes whenever I press on it. It just shows a loading sign and throws me back to the launcher/home-sreen.
Also, I can't even access the "email+accounts" option from the settings menu. It also has the same problem. When I press on it first displays a black screen and then comes back to the home-screen. Although the internet runs fine and i can also use my facebook account through the phone.
Has anyone else faced this problem before? If yes, please reply. And if no, then can anyone suggest a possible solution for this asap.
My Gmail inbox is working just fine. By the way, "pre-installed app" is a bit inaccurate; it's just the built-in Outlook functionality of WP7, which will create a new link (going to the Inbox) for any email account you add to the phone (including Google).
All that said, if your Gmail "app" isn't working correctly (and it sounds like it's not just your Gmail, but the whole Google account on your phone) then the first thing you should do is try to sign into Google / Gmail through a web browser (on the phone or on the PC) to make sure your account is working. If so, and you still can't access your Google account on the phone after a day or two of waiting, you may just need to hard-reset the phone.
Anyone who flashed the new android L factory image facing this issue where not all the contacts from exchange server are getting sync'd?
Not working for me either. Also calendar from Exchange (Office 365 in my case) is not getting synced, and I cannot even see it in the list of available calendars.

Can you sync email normally? I couldn't even sync email since it told me exchange services has stopped every seconds
E-mail sync works fine, and even the Exchange policies came through correctly (PIN & encryption in my case). Posted question to Google Product forums as well.
UPDATE: Now after 2,5 hours of waiting, I do see calendar items and also contacts being synced from Exchange, so I'm considering this working for me at least for now.
My exchange is not working. Just syncing mail forever (nothing ever comes up) and calendar wont show. I have cleared data for exchange and gmail and deleted and readded the account several times. No luck at all. Please help me, I need to get to my work mail!!
Just an update. The issue is now resolved.
Here is what I did: I completely removed the exhange server account. Reset phone. Create exhchange server account and let it do it's thing while it was pulling down the info rather than try to much around with the phone this time around. Worked just fine. All contacts / emails / calendar everything sync'd correctly. I am connecting to outlook.office365.com.

During the time for syncing, have you received any notification ( error) which tells you the "Exchange services has stopped" ?

Hi, please help me. I have a company Exchange account on my N5 and everything works well, except the contacts sync. If I create a new contact on Nexus 5, it won't be sync to Exchange. In the opposite direction - from desktop to N5 - works well. (I choose the "Exchange contact", if I create a new contact, please tell me other something...) All the other syncs work well, like calendar, e-mail, only this way doesn't work. So what is your opinion, your method can help me as well? Or it is a bug in Lollipop? If I remember, it worked well with 4.4.4, but I'm not sure
I deleted all phones from Exchange (there were N5 a few times and my last phones as well) and my Exchange account from phone as well. Next I sync and the result is: when I create a new contact on the N5, it will be appear in the "Recommend Contacts" account. Then I can move it to "Contacts" account. It isn't complete solution, but better then earlier
