Hi mates,
I've two problems:
1. Internet - from some reason every few minutes my internet disconnects for a few minutes and reconnects, this happens to me on cellular and/or WiFi connection.
2. Google Now - i don't have the slide to the left/right in order to access Google Now.
My N5 doesn't have root and i've Android 4.4.2, and my device language is English US.
Thanks

You need to update Google Search. When you go to the Play Store, and look at "My Apps" you should see Google Search on the list, and, hopefully, it will give you the option to update.
Latest version is 3.1.24.941712.arm

I'm currently having trouble installing the Google Play Store over the old Market app. I've downloaded 3.4.6 and 3.4.7 as .apks and still nothing works. How do I delete the old Android Market? I can't find it in system/app thanks!
I'm currently using CM9 v2.1 + Black Infinitum.

check /data/app/
if its in there then you might want to move it to /system/app/
Dont use any apks you have downloaded.
Try this:
Delete the apk you have installed (uninstall updates)
Clear data
Connect to wifi
Go into market
Press home, let the wifi be on
Wait ca. 5 minutes
Go into market again. If promoted accept google play
If the old market comes up, press home and let the wifi be on
Wait another 5 minutes
Go into market again and accept the terms.
Let me know if it helped

I checked where you specified and no Market .apk exists in there either. :/

Thanks for the help. However, my default Market (v3.4.4) doesn't have any updates. The only options I can select are "Force Stop" and "Disable". Also, I've left WiFi on and nothing is prompting me to update to Google Play.
There is one wierd issue though. After force closing the Market app to see if it would update, it didn't update to Google Play but when I launched the Market app it asked me to accept the new Google Play terms and conditions. (I am still on the old Market app though.)
Hmm, thats reakly wierd. If nithing helps, try a clean update of your phone

Rename the otacerts.zip file in /system/etc/security (from memory - looks correct).

I use 4.4.2 with the 4.4 radio. Zero issues. I do think the new baseband uses a little more juice, but not a lot more.

I did mine a little different way, when you have the system update notification icon, swipe down to get to the quick menu, hold the tap on the system update notification bar, and a little bar with "app info" will show up, tap that and then uncheck "show notifications". no more annoying icon telling you to update.

Uh Google services framework handles way more than ota updates. Don't think you want to disable notifications on that.

Can you give me an example of what important notification I would be missing? Disabling notifications doesn't stop Google Services Framework from running. According to my research, there are but one or two other notification dialogs associated with Google Services Framework, and they aren't very informative. I have been using this method for my last 3 phones and haven't missed being notified of anything necessary for me to use my phone.
Any ideas anyone?

this may work on u
1. Remove your google account from phone.
2. Goto settings, open apps.
3. Navigate to All apps.
4. Clear the data for the below mentioned
processes Download Manager ,Google Play Store,
Google Services Framework.

SOLVED!!! Finally! Not sure what the fix was exactly (since I tinkered with just everything in this session) but I think it was removing ALL Google accounts (I had 7 total) and possibly combined with toggling Sync and the clear cache & data trick. Here's everything I did:
Updated Google Play services to 4.1.32 (978161-36)
Updated Play Store to 4.4.22
Turned off Sync
Removed all 7 Google accounts
Cleared cache AND data for Google Play services, Google Play Store and Google Services Framework (I know the Google engineer said not to, but F it!)
Restarted the phone
Cleared cache AND data again for the aforementioned apps/services (I'm paranoid/anal)
Restarted the phone again
Turned Sync back on
Re-added just ONE Google account (my primary one)
Cleared cache and data again (told ya!)
Restarted the phone again
All the apps that were giving me the RPC:S-3 error have successfully updated/installed automatically. What a F'ing experience!
Well, 'til the next RPC:S-3 (or RPC:S-5:AEC-0) fiasco...

I use the gmail client (the one that comes with gapps) for hotmail. Its set up as an exchange mail a/c. So in case you use gmail client or any other, you can maybe get rid of that hotmail browser haha.
I have 2 * U 12 Plus devices, the 2 devices have different apps installed.
Last week I suddenly experienced the same problem on both devices, I can't access the "settings" function.
When I ask to enter the "settings", the settings screen appears for a second and disappears. And then ש message appears if I want to report the fault to HTC ?
I performed a hard reset several times, but the problem repeats itself.
Thanks for any help or idea how to solve this problem.

Type goggle in the play store the first search result is the app I uninstalled. There should be an option there to uninstall the app. It's just called Google. When I click the app it leads me to the news feed.

You can disable the app completely (Settings -> Apps & Notifications -> Google -> Disable). Or you can turn off automatic updates for the app in the Play Store. The last "good" version of the app that worked is 14.15.25.28.arm64. You can find this on APK Mirror.

I have exactly the same problem and not even a hard reboot resolves the problem. On a hard reboot, I was about to access "setting" for a brief second but the phone does an automated update and once the update kicks in, I lost the ability to access "setting"
