Rename the otacerts.zip file in /system/etc/security (from memory - looks correct).

Why do you want to freeze it?

I've seen a lot of posts about bad battery life in 4.4.2 so I don't want to update right now but I want the notification to go away.

I use 4.4.2 with the 4.4 radio. Zero issues. I do think the new baseband uses a little more juice, but not a lot more.

I did mine a little different way, when you have the system update notification icon, swipe down to get to the quick menu, hold the tap on the system update notification bar, and a little bar with "app info" will show up, tap that and then uncheck "show notifications". no more annoying icon telling you to update.

Uh Google services framework handles way more than ota updates. Don't think you want to disable notifications on that.

Can you give me an example of what important notification I would be missing? Disabling notifications doesn't stop Google Services Framework from running. According to my research, there are but one or two other notification dialogs associated with Google Services Framework, and they aren't very informative. I have been using this method for my last 3 phones and haven't missed being notified of anything necessary for me to use my phone.

WTF is this??

This spams my notification and status bar when a. I restart phone or b. I turn off all radios and the enable again.
It has to be a third party app I have. Anyone else seen this before? Antivirus programs don't see anything wrong.
Thanks.

I would use droidwall and disable apps that you think is the problem. There is no way for you to know that it works unless it reproduce it self i think there is also another firewall app that does dynamic blocking but it is still buggy Hope you find the root of the problem.
I had that problem on my other phone when I had an mp3 downloading app. Do you have of those installed? I would check that out.

ok i had the same problem heres how to fix it go to the market and download "airpush detector" install it and run it. what it will do is pull the app/apps that are causing the issue then you can just uninstall them.
You def have a rogue app somewhere.
Look through /data/app folder for anything that you don't recognize or looks suspect. Also look through you Application Manager. If you don't remember installing it, unistall it...the worst thing that can happen if it was something you use is you lose you settings. I think that is worth it to prevent possibly losing your identity (not trying to scare you)
Yep I have a mp3 downloaded app. Uninstall!!

Yep, I thought so. Thats what I had on my old phone.
I have it. No mp3 app, though. Spam is lame as hell.

That feature is built into PA so no need to download any 3rd party apps!
Just go to the following:
Settings
Display
Pulse Notification Light
+Add

Yeah I figured it out, under the PA setting hit the menu button and select apps. From there you can assign the size of each app. The best one for GS3 is the smallest one which is 1.26p I believe (I switched to CleanRom 7). From there use the slider and bring it all the way to the right. Apply changes and you should be golden.

[Q] Full screen popup ads

Hi there. Recently, ads that look like the image above have been popping up insistently on my phone. Every single time i pick it up after an interval, the ad pops up and takes up the whole screen, unless i click "no, thanks" or "Back" or "Home" it won't go away.
I'm getting very frustrated and i have uninstalled about 90% of my apps. I installed cleanmaster to clean my system cache to get rid of any unwanted files and i run it all the time. I've also tried all the ad blockers/detectors on the play store but they cannot detect any sign of malicious software.
Any advice? I would really hate to do a factory reset but i would like to know the cause of the problem, if it's an app. What's the point of having an android if i can't install any apps?!
Any ideas on how i can get to the root of the problem? It's frustrating as f***.
what happens if you press the recents button? does it show any app or just not respond?

It opens a webpage. One of those annoying "contest" websites where you are asked to do quizzes or enter your number to win a prize.

Hum... It's on your side, not Android... You obviously downloaded something...
It's an app for sure, but we cant help you unless you show us the list of your remaining apps.
When you find it, just uninstall it. No need to clear cash or anything, it wont make a difference anyway. And if you got it from google play, you should report it since it is against their guidelines. https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479847?hl=en
If it is not from the play store e.g. some pirate app, I dont feel sorry for you... If it's a legitimate app from outside the playstore you should raise your concern with the developer.

Seriously Google play?

This is pretty messed up. On airplane mode. Running greenify.

Yet your battery still looks to be very close to full (actually, it looks like it's full). 85.7% of jack squat is jack squat.
Point is it kept it awake the entire time I was in a movie with the phone on airplane mode.

can't just ''Force close at application list ? '' I've tried that one and my task manager did not saw it or just try to find some app blocker when airplane is for special profiles/modes etc. Did not get in deep enough to just understand but mostly as he said ''Finding all time updates'' when i do not use it, i just disable google updates and when i need then just simply enable them.
Hope this could help you !
Fyi - Maybe Some task killlers may do this the same while blacklisting them

just freeze it. you can use several apps to freeze google play and google play services. as for me my favorites are Link2SD and LuckyPatcher. everytime you have to go to the movies just quickly freeze it (and reboot if want to make sure).

Remove persistent notifications?

Does anyone know how to remove annoying persistent notifications that you can't disable through settings? I have some apps set to not auto update ON PURPOSE, so this notification is annoying! Pic attached.
EDIT: My phone is rooted, so that's very much an option.

Tried that first, it says these notifications can't be turned off. It's like, a system level thing for some reason. I'm thinking there might be a terminal command or maybe something I have to freeze in my system, but not sure what it is and don't wanna start "trying stuff" lol

You could always disable YouTube under System then Apps. That's what I've always done. I stopped using YouTube Vanced though since Google updated their ToS to where if you're caught using YouTube Vanced, you could get your whole Google account blocked.

I second that. Elaborate? I'd hate to lose my Google account o.o I use the Magisk module version of Vanced personally.
