Update the binary for CM 11's built-in superuser? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any way for me to update the supersu binary in CM 11 without installing Chainfire's SuperSU? With the built-in superuser I can't freeze system apps with TB. After updating the binary with Chainfire's app it works but this way I have to flash it in recovery after every ROM flash. Also I don't like the redundancy.. call it OCD or whatever

Update to different SuperUser

I've rooted my Samsung Galaxy S2X and updated with SuperUser 3.1.3.
Is there anyway for me to change/update this Super User to SuperSU v0.99 ? How can I do that? Do I need to re-flash the SuperSU.zip file again from Recovery?
Reason being SuperSU v0.99 is user to use, I could grant/deny apps from the options.
Thanks.

You will need to delete the current su binary on your system partition, then flash ss. Though superuser is the superior app and has all the necessary settings. Easiest way is through the team win recovery project - TWRP - file manager.

I've deleted the superuser.apk using root explorer and then I install SuperSU from market play. When performing the update, it says update failed. Now I cannot access to my Titanium Backup. Luckily I've performed backup using TWRP and restored back all the files.
Is there any other way to update to SuperSU? Can I just use TWRP to flash the SuperSU file (found this rar file "Superuser-3.0.7-efghi-signed") directly? Please advice. Thanks
Yeah, simply download supersu from play store and install it. Open it and it will ask you to update su binary, then superuser will ask for permission, allow. Then use a root un installer app or root explorer and delete the superuser.apk and reboot phone

[Q] Enabling Built-In Superuser?

I finally got Koush's Superuser manager to install, hoping that it would allow the built in superuser to activate(considering that the built in superuser is the same thing), however it doesn't manage properly. Exacting the su binary from the CM 11m8 build for bacon didn't work when manually installled. Anybody have any ideas?
And yes I've used SuperSu on it, so please don't suggest it.

Stuck between Kingroot / SuperSu

Hello,
I successfully rooted my phone (Xperia Z1 Android 5.0.1) with KingRoot 5.0.6. Afterwards I tried to replace KingRoot with SuperSu (https://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989). When I ran the script, I got these errors: https://a.disquscdn.com/uploads/mediaembed/images/3096/6825/original.jpg
The script finished and KingRoot was removed but SuperSu wasn't installed. The manual installation of SuperSu (and its binaries) didn't work so I tried to reinstall KingRoot with the newest version. The problem is, that I can't open (nothing happens), uninstall (greyed out) or downgrade ("application was not installed") KingRoot.
Do you have any advice what I could try instead of flashing a new rom?
I have installed TWRP recovery

Maybe you need to open the TWRP and browse to the location where your phone stores the su binary file, which is most likely stored in the:
/system/xbin , or
/system/bin
Delete the existing binary if any alongwith the other su files like daemonsu, etc , and repeat your previous installation methods.

Try deleting the kingroot app manually. If its installed, it should be somewhere in data/app or system/app.
If that's successful, then reinstall Kingroot and try rooting again. Instead of running a script to replace Kingroot with SuperSu, try using "SuperSuMe" instead. Its available on the playstore.
Ya SuperSuMe is was worked for me a while back when I needed to do the same. I think it was 2$ bucks.

need help with magisk root, twrp and xposed (update 2017)?

Hey all,
Just purchased a LG U2 and now trying to make it work in the way i want it.
All informations here seem very old, so I wanted to open an update thread, with all what is possible on th lgu2, while
I found only very outdated informations...:crying:
So far:
First I setup the watch with AW2.0, after that flashed twrp 3.1.1.0 and supersu wear 2.82
I managed to get busybox installed and wanted further add Xposed.
There my problem starts, flashing xposed didn't work out.
So right after that, I switchd to Magisk root, to try work with the modules supplied.
(Steps -> use script UnSU, after that flash boot.img again, than flash MAgisk through twrp)
But after that the same with the modules. I try to install busybox, magisk tell me its no magisk module (i've downloaded the module and pushed it on the sd through adb, while the download button isn't reachable in magisk dialogue menu)
in twrp the module tells me there is no magisk installed.
so how can we go on from here? is there a way to make it all work?
did somebody try to change dpi and download the module directly through magisk? does it work?
also if somebody could help with an updated list of sideload able full android apps?
would need an email that can handle at least two accounts directly on the watch (please not advice outlook, its working from the phone i know)
thanks to all in advance

Ok i did a fresh flash.
i see my fault was to install busybox the first time after installing supersu.
did it this time without and mgisk works so far fine. granting access for total commander no problem.
but now another thing. i installed now busybox from the repos in magisk, he say installation successful, but the module isn't there after reboot?
anyone got the same?

Root Kindle Fire HD 10

I was able to use Kingoroot for PC to root my Fire HD 10. Updated to the newest Firmware. It would say it was rooted. But, Trying to give permissions and checking with root checker was not successful and said there was no root. I installed SuperSU apk it says the binary is occupied. So I Uninstalled the superuser apk. that was installed by Kingoroot and tried to change the build prop with a root browser text editor and it was successful so apparently it roots but superuser is not working to grant or deny permissions. It automatically grants permissions does not even open up superuser so its kinda dangerous but it is rooted and working. My experience is that kingoroot superuser must be Uninstalled for root to work. I used twrp manager to backup my recovery img., and boot img. I am going to try to build a recovery for it but I'm not In a hurry plus I'm not sure if it will flash afterwards anyways but if you want root, Kingoroot for pc and Uninstalled the kingoroot superuser apk it installs and you will have it
Installed magisk manager installed zip direct (recommended) it bricked the fire. And then I adb sideloaded the update and now I'm back in business reasonably easy to do but I do not recommend magisk at this time .
Going to try xposed next
Couldn't get it to install says it's arm device tries to install and says it's an arm64 device. Plus has to be flashed in recovery and one hasn't been built yet
You can't manage Kingoroot su binary using SuperSU.
If you not install SuperSU su binary, SuperSU apk does not working.
Try this method to install SuperSU su binary.

I installed supersu to find out if it was rooted since the root checker said it was not. the binary error was a confirmation that it was in fact rooted and it doesn't matter what superuser is used it will not allow pop up or apps to draw over other apps so when it's rooted with kingoroot it automatically grants root without a confirmation,as long as the kingoroot super user app is not installed and if SuperSU is kept installed default permission has to be set to grant for root to work. I in fact installed the SuperSU binary through an older version of the apk and it installed but still has no control over denying or granting permissions. Thanks for the advice though. I appreciate your willingness to help me

Not trying to insult your intelligence or anything here, but you said newest firmware? Newest Fire firmware? Newest firmware isn't rootable from my understanding.
What firmware were you on when you started the root process?
Also, are you making sure that the Kingoroot "install our extra junk" box isn't checked (not sure that would prevent root success)?
It wouldn't open superuser. superuser should be set to "grant" because of how the Fire works, which it sounds like you are aware of based on your last post. I wouldn't say it's dangerous, per se.
I've followed this guide nearly a dozen times now and I've not run into the issue(s) you're having.
