HELP! Been Refunded But Still Have Device - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Bought my N5 on the 26th November
Received on the 29th November
Had a camera defect (broken camera module)
Messaged Google so many time to return the device for full refund, they said they would send out a return package, after 20 days of waiting for the return package Google refunded me however...
I sent the device to LG to repair it because Google was taking too long (9th December) LG emailed me saying the device it fixed and on it's way back to me.
Google have already refunded me for the device that i didn't send back what should i do? will they take the money back out of my account when they realize they don't have my device

I would be really surprised if they didn't.
At this point, your best bet is to contact Google and tell them exactly what you posted here. Be honest about the reasons why and you should be fine, you don't want your Play Account to get flagged for fraud.

Fraud ? How can i get flagged for fraud they made the mistake i was waiting for a return package for 19 days on the phone every 2-3 days asking where it was and countless emails so i sent the device to LG to fix, im not ringing them it's their fault at the end of the day and if they try and take money from my account with my say so i can surely sue for them doing so.

Had the same thing happen to me last year with the N4.
Sent a device back for RMA, they sent me the new device and also refunded me. Contacted Google to explain what they had done several times, but they don't appear to be too bright at the call center. The Money is still sat in my Bank Account waiting for them to pick up on it (12 Month on), I have given up chasing them, if they want it they can contact me.
I have heard they can claim it back up to 6 years onward's...not sure how true this is though.

Hmm not sure where you stand with this...legally the money is their's, but surely they can't help themselves to your account without your prior consent/knowledge.

Yeah legally it is but isn't it legally mine now since they they authorized a refund, i don't have the device LG does and they sent me an email today saying they are sending it back to, hopefully i get a reply off Google soon.

But in this case the money is his. He asked for a refund but instead got the money and device back. In this case its Googles fault for not being intelligent enough to take action. So imo this isnt entirely counted as fraud. legally the money is his. As its in his account. Its just like any store. You go in and purchase a milk but instead your change is what you gave. But you got the milk and walked out. The owners made a mistake and therefore they cannot simply jus take it back, but there may be an exception here. Even if they do take the money they will have to contact you. And if they contact and take the money its well worth it because you purchased the device.

Exactly, the only im worried about is them taking the money back without telling me and the money not being in the account, i payed with credit card anyway so if they try and take it without my say so i can cancel the transaction and they will have to contact me, they should get back to me soon hopefully if they don;t claim the money in 30 days they can get stuffed they aint having a penny off me after 30days.

If they recall the money you will be contacted first.

I doubt a company that big, will just take your money off your account without contacting you. That is counted as theft, and more importantly it'll set a bad reputation for the company itself. So my best guess is that, they will contact you if needed. If they don't then you have every right to defend your case.

Expect them to send you an invoice, asking you to pay up. If you refuse to pay up (and refuse to return the device), they can send you to collections, or pursue legal options (not saying they will, but they can).

You chose to send the device to LG directly - was that because Google told you to? Or because you didn't want to wait?
At least in the US, money received in error into your bank acct is not yours. And you can be held liable to pay that back (with interest if you cause delays after you are notified about the error - even if you used it up)
Edit: If the account in question is a credit card account, Google can simply charge the amount back to your card.
Note: I am not a lawyer

They might not even do anything one time I returned my s4 to T-Mobile they gave me 687$ twice on my account I called them they said that never happen well I stay quiet enjoyed my free 687

A Warning about using Beijing iPhone Repair

Some time ago I came across a company online called ‘Beijing iPhone Repair dot com’ (spelt as I do not wish to create a web link to their website) that said they could unblock / clean IMEI numbers that had been blacklisted from the UK IMEI blacklist database.
Well I had an iPhone 4 that I bought in a job lot that was blocked and according to Checkmend had been ‘blocked by one or more network providers’ but not reported lost or stolen so I thought I’d give this service a try.
The phone to be, what they term as ‘IMEI cleaned’ had to be on the Orange / T-Mobile / EE network so I checked the Apple iTunes log files and found it was locked to Orange.
I bought the (approx. £35.00GBP) service which was to be completed within seven days. Four days later it was unblocked and working fine so I left some good feedback on their website.
A few months later I read that Beijing iPhone Repairs were now unblocking any mobile phone locked to the Orange / T-Mobile / EE network so I thought I’d try an Android Sony Xperia that I had also bought in a job lot with the same Checkmend reports.
After 7 days I got the email from Beijing iPhone Repair saying the unlock had been done but when I tested the phone it had not. I made a video proving the unblock had not worked (http://youtu.be/tOj9WDZrDQA) then I contacted the company by email and spoke to someone named ‘Jonathan’.
Jonathan has told me that I must wait for their supplier in the UK to inform them the unblock will not work before they refund my money. There was no mention of this condition in the advert but I reluctantly agreed to wait a further 7 days for their supplier to retry the service.
It has now been two months since I bought the service from them and despite many emails they have refused to refund any money to me without the go ahead from their supplier which to be honest I think is just an excuse to cover their theft from me.
I can no longer access their website without using a proxy server as they have blocked my I.P address as they don’t like me speaking about it on their forum page! They have also blocked me from accessing their Facebook page and asking for my refund there too.
So this is just a warning to anyone that is thinking of using ‘Beijing iPhone Repair dot com’, they are dishonest! Also they use PayPal as a payment service and PayPal offers no buyer protection for claims involving the sale of non-physical goods – you will lose the dispute as soon as it is read by PayPal staff, as I found out!
Here is a log of the emails I have received from Jonathan. I hope I have saved some people from their underhand business methods.

No problem. It's just a shame they couldn't be honest as the first service was fine and I would have spent much more money with them. If they do ever pay me back I will say so on here but they are not even answering my emails now!
Update
Just to update...
After showing them this post and pointing out that Googling 'Beijing iPhone Repair' shows this post directly below their own website they refunded me. (The power of XDA!) They have also blocked my I.P from accessing their website for some reason, assuming I have no idea what a proxy is! It was unnecessary anyway as I have no desire to return to it anyway!

Actually it was Apple by Winter or last year that requires that now every unlock request needs to be done vía Internet per att(dot)com/deviceunlock as an only alternative.
Previously, Customer Service could work and receive instant approval at the phone.

[Q] Anyone familiar with "Project Abacus"

I received a survey on the Surveys On The Go that qualified me to take part in something called "Project Abacus". It came with a lengthy EULA from Google and the promise of a Nexus 5 that I could keep after 6 months of participating in a study. The study involves 6 months of use as your primary phone and allowing it to collect usage information to track how you use it using an app that is in the play store but also comes pre-loaded on the phone. I can't seem to find out much more than that though (other than this thread on the Google forums). Didn't know if anyone here has heard of this or participated in it. They are not asking for any credit card info or anything more private than your phone number (they called to verify my address) and email account (they are sending a tracking number). So I don't think I'm risking anything. But I'm just pretty skeptical about something that seems too good to be true. Getting to participate in a Google research study seems kinda like winning the lottery. So the bottom line question is this.....is this legit?

I haven't received an email from them yet. I found it interesting that that app in the app store doesn't have a web URL associated with it. Makes me wonder if they got some exception because I *thought* that was a requirement. All the communication so far was all handled through the Surveys On The Go app. Based on the reviews both there an the comments at the link I referenced in the OP, folks have received confirmation calls about this for a week or so now, promising phones in the next 2-4 weeks. I'll be sure to post back here if I get a tracking number or a real phone.
One of the things that makes me think that this is legit is that the agreement that you had to go through was VERY long and detailed. It said that you have to set up a new/separate Google account for the test. This new Google Drive location is where all the information collected on your use (including occasional photos of you using the phone) will be posted for your review. You can delete anything you are not comfortable sharing. They then access this data. And, according to this agreement, if we decide to opt out we can request that GOOGLE delete all the data that was submitted during the survey. I took a screenshot that that part of the agreement and have asked the app developers to send me a digital copy of the full agreement.
I'm doing the same study, and had the same worries that you did. lol I found this thread though a bit of googling...
I loved my Nexus 4, and I'm really really hoping that this is legit. Can't wait to see what happens honestly.

I've just completed the survey on SOTG as well. I hope I'll be allowed to root the device. It will suck to have to use it without root. If anything, I wonder if I can get a Straight Talk number and use that instead of my regular carrier's SIM card.

Considering the timing of this research project, I'm curious if they are going to be sending out Nexus 5's as the said or actually sending out new Nexus 6's. It would be a huge coincidence if they were sending out phones for this Project Abacus at the same time as they were releasing the new model. The 6 is supposed to be available for pre-order Thursday to arrive next month - right at the same time they are saying that they will be sending us these phones. I would think that with the 5 on it's way out and the 6 replacing it, they wouldn't be spending a lot on studying how folks use it.

I would *love* confirmation that it was the 6. That would be *incredible*!
For me, I had taken these in this order before I got the Abacus invite:
Demographics Main
Demographics Household
Demographics Internet
Demographics Entertainment
Demographics Interests
Movie Survey
Demographics Politics
** PHONE STUDY **

I have received the same survey for the invite, servey for acceptance, and survey for confirmination. I then got a phone call today saying they can not accept PO boxes, it needs to be a residential address. I was then going to put down my father's work address, but then he said to just call back when I get that address. I would never give out my actual home address to someone I can't completely trust. Then I got a phone call about an hour later and was told that a PO Box would work and they apologized for the confusion. Then he asked for my carrier that I would put the Sim card in. I said at&t, which is the truth, and was told the phone would ship soon and would arrive in 2 to 3 weeks from today. I sure do hope it is real, but I guess I'll have to wait and see.

T-Mobile V20 back order

I called a few stores last Thursday and there was none in stock. I called to place an order over the phone, and was originally given a ship date of Nov 3 - 8. I never got the electronic signature email from them at the time I purchased on Thursday, to complete the transaction so after calling them back yesterday they resent the email and I signed it. Well that never went through and I had to call them again today. They resent the email, I verified the e signature again, and received a text to confirm it worked this time. I'm still getting informed of a shipping date between 3-8, but when I talked to a rep again this evening he told me it won't ship until at least the 10th and that's been moved up 5 days cause it used to be the 15th. So, I don't know when to expect this phone, but he said since the demise of the note 7, the v20 is in extreme demand, and LG can't keep up with shipping devices.

ordered mine online Saturday and it's out for delivery today. can't wait to get my paws on it
I had to return mine because it was defecrive, i reordered with a supervisor on the phone on november 1 and my order backordered to December 13th up to january 3rd of next year. Even though the supervisor told me that i would have the phone by the end of this month. Now im screwed without a phone. I will have to ask my mother for the lg g3 i gave her once again since im receiving very important emails at hours im not in the house. Tmobile used to have a rating of 5 stars from me. Now it gets a 2 stars.

I have tried every single method but they still say the same stuff... as if they were robots. sometimes i believe im talking with a robot instead of a person . Im telling you, i would never recommend anyone to join the Tmobile family, maybe to grab the phone only since they usually have unlocked bootloader, but that's it! Customer service is the worst. One tells me one thing, the other tells me other thing, another lies to me making me send the phone and making me believe that i would receive a new phone when i was never going to get that replacement, and another one told me it would arrive this month. And it keeps going on and on and on . I have a long list of things they told me and never did.

Worries not! I have my G3 back because my mother is going to be out for a couple of weeks so.... BUT REALLY! LG AN TMOBILE MUST BE STUPID! THEY SHOULD HAVE PREDICTED THIS WOULD HAPPEN AFTER WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE NOTE 7.... Or,.... are they stupid? seems like it. I mean, it doesn take a lot of brain to figure out that when one flagship goes down people are desperate to try a new device that will possibly replace it. I bet they have already lost many customers just because of the backorders. If it werent because i have already tried the LG V20 for a couple of days, i would have cancel my order the minute i found out about the backorder been so far away.

First world problems dude. LG is small in terms of mobile phones. I am pretty sure they expected more demand because the notr7 grenades but damn dude. Think about the logistics of it. Production capacity. Samsung and apple I am quite sure get the red carpet and get to jump queues often. Getting extra production capacity can be problematic sometimes. Not like it can be expedited. And think about what time of year it is. The OEM's with hot phones are probably ramping up capacity for the holiday season. LG probably is too but doesnt have clout to work with. Hell for all we know theyve already doubled output but can't keep up with demand still. Lots more go into complicated devices like these. Many parts to source. Many parts to source that other OEM's use also. Another kink in the supply chain. You're just being a simple minded impatient temper tantrum child. If it bothers you that bad get a phone that is I'm stock everywhere. Some stores get more supply than others because they can't keep them on the shelves. Others don't want to take risk of stock taking up valuable storage space that could be used for other phones. Just sounds like you need to be bent over the knee or taken out to the woodshed and get a reality check. Lots of variables at play here behind anybody in the supply chain from the parts needed for the v20, assembly line, possibly qualified employees to assemble, shipping lanes and stores gambling on stock to stock. Not to mention accounting for defective phones or returns. Take a chill pill or go cry on your pillow. Geez.

Aah i see, making me the bad guy, aren't you? Nice try. if i were one of those normal "simple minded impatient temper tantrum child" that you are talking about, that is. You don't even know 1) for how long have i been dealing with this issue, 2) the troubles it caused me (even my TMobile account had a mess for this), 3) the amount of incompetent and also liars agents that are found in both brands Tmobile and LG, and i had to talk which each one of them, 4)The trick they almost make me fall into if i hadn't been so careful and been so persistent (such as making me pay for a phone i didn't have anymore, and is not only limited to that), 5) 3 important information relevant to this semester on my college that i missed out thanks to T-Mobile (since i sent them the phone and was expecting for the word of the supervisor to become true). Dude, i can keep on and on and on, and can say that im none of the things you said about me because with everything they did to me, my account, even with only the lies they wrote to me and also told me through the phone, i would have already sued them and surely i would have won the case. Since i saved every conversation and i would have only have to ask to T-Mobile to release the recorded conversations i had with them (which are a lot!, but it wasn't because i was impatient, im a very patient person, but because they had their own mess inside the system and had me on the center of that mess making me the fool of the play). If i hadn't called and chat so much i would have had to pay more than what the phone actually cost. So yeah, at this point anyone would have already become so mad that they would have probably broken their TVs i have seen people do more for even fewer things. So, do me a favor and stop assuming because you are nowhere near Sherlock Holmes' level.
(on the other hand, i don't wish that everything that happened to me already, happens to you )

Thank you for letting me know . I will give it a shot later today. :good::good:
Supply and demand, if LG made a crap load of phones in thinking that the note 7 users would get the v20 and then it didn't happen well then they made a lot of phones that might not sell without dropping the price.

I contacted them through FB.... They are even worst in there . now they say that they process and ship the orders in the same order they receive the request. Then HOW THE HECK there are people who bought it even a week later or more than me and they already have their phone with them or on its way, or even the estimated time showing a closer date when mine shows decemeber 13 until january 3?! Really? and then they claimed that it is even more, on their end the website shows to them that it is on december 19, so.... even more far away. It doesnt matter what people think about me after i say the following thing because i have already proven this over and over and over again. TMOBILE IS BUILT UP IN LIES! And only i know what i have been through the past 3 weeks and a half.
Perhaps you're an ass and they keep delaying your order on purpose?
Same thing happened to me. Preordered on Oct 18th and my estimated ship date was 11/25 - 12/16. The store I preordered from actually had then in stock so I cancelled my order and just bought it there. Somehow my $200 trade in credit I submitted was approved.

Question Samsung Care+ Free Year

I see in the members app where you can get care+ for a year if you pre ordered but when I tap the button nothing happens. Anyone know how to get the free year?

That gives me a "you are no longer eligible to enroll in Samsung care+" message. You think they are making us wait until the actual release date of the 27th before it goes live?
Edit: Samsung said it will go live on the official launch the 27th.
It's the same offer in my country, but it says "Samsung care+ not available in your country".

Did you order directly from Samsung? If so, you had to add it to the order.
Unfortunately, I played this game with the Note 20 Ultra. Not adding it to the order claimed I could go into the Members app and add it for up to 30 days. After some extensive research, I found out that it could ONLY be added to the order or it "expired" and not even support could get it added.
It also wasn't actually available until after the release and then there was a slight delay (48 hours or so), much like it was a game release. I never did get it added, but that was the initial excuse support gave for not being able to add it.

Hopefully it works out this time or they fixed the terms because last year, they were making the same claim and it ended up only being available if you purchased them together.

I wasn't questioning whether or not they made the claim. I had the same thing through the 10 different support conversations. I hope they do things differently this time, but I have no doubt you will invest the same amount of time I did.

Says on the app it's during order only. I asked they won't honor it. But whatever I was paying on it for my S21 Ultra so I canceled that since I sold it and will pay for it for the Z Flip so not like I'm really out any extra
Did it work for you? I've registered mine on 25th Aug. without problems (germany), purchased directly at samsung

If it didn't arrive yet, you could try contacting support and telling them you thought you clicked the button to add it. They may still be able to edit the order. The mistake I made was waiting until it arrived to decide I should add it. By then, the order was already complete.

They wouldn't.
I have the same problem, I had to add it on my cart and check out which I didn't... but the rep was kind enough to send me a $60 credit to use on samsung.com.. I ended up using it towards a watch watch 4.. Samsung care is pretty lame anyway the deductibles are way too high for screen replacement. I'll take my chances with the one year manufacturer's warranty.
Let's hope the hinge is made to be durable. The repair shops are trained to find a reason to call it accidental damage.
i waited out the preorder period to avoid Members app or Samsung account. After the release, the benefits are similar, but without that privacy annoyance. However, there's a price to pay for Care+ at least for first 2 weeks (to make sure preorder people feel privileged). The old Z models still receive free Care+ until today. I expect the same conditions to reapply for ZFlip3/ZFold3 soon. The display repair price is up to 1000$ so the manufacturer should still provide extra backing.

You save $100 with the Care+ plan. Screen repair is around $400.

Question I got support.google/pixelphone to carrier unlock my 7 pro from T-Mobile while I owe for the phone.

Wtfff how in the world is this possible Google carrier unlocked my TMobile branded phone. I am flagged to never be unlocked with tmo again and so I tried and am I the luckiest?

There's nothing wrong with this thread. It might help others who can't OEM unlock their TMo Pixel devices.
okay here is how it was done. also i have an update on the unlock. firstly i went in all bets were off. so, i treated it like it was the last chance ever. google support actually was not able to get the device unlocked purely for the fact that i am in a weird situation that i actually recieved a tmobile phone with a blocked imei. i can say it seems a very like a very legitimate option but i cannot promise it as i ended up taking a different route. no matter how you try they to do it google is gunna fight every single inch but so did i. BUT!!!, get this, I have a warranty replacement coming in the mail from google free of charge. so I'm giving them my T-Mobile branded phone for a refurbished unlocked variant. I didn't take no for an answer, I was kind and friendly to the the guy but wouldn't back down. it started with a few to many beers and some stupid ideas. I did some serious research into the warranty. in the warranty it states for anything it is up to the discretion of google to repair or replace the device. it does not specify how serious or simple. so, the goal is convince them to replace it. it also does not say anything about if you bought your device from a 3rd party. if you have the warranty listed in your settings you have it and can use it. he was obviously under the impression it was a stolen device or something because well i mean come on look at what i was trying to get done. so have your receipt for the device on hand listing name and imei. i also had to allow them into my phone but i had factory reset the device directly before contacting them. im not gunna go to far in on what is wrong with my device because that is case by case an mine is complicated as hell and impossible to easily articulate. the guy was trying to blow me off leave the chat. the thing is I'm pretty darn sure they can't end it until you say basically. i made the guy email me so i couldnt be ran off on. he tried to not ask for my email. so i sent it to him at the end. he tried to email me after we got off the chat. i told him now please. the thing is it is completely in my right based on the warranty to be asking for what i was and i knew that without any doubt. he was unable to give any fibs here or there to get away with not doing what i asked. i genuinely was kind and annoyed him but made him chuckle about it all in the end. the warranty is the key for anything. figure out how to explain that a warranty repair is needed on the unlock switch. the reason has to be absolutely bullet proof i also can talk my way to anything with working in sales. so a shy person who isnt vocal will probaby not make this happen. i read the warranty 20 times to be able to go in and hold him hostage by forcing the exchange through exploiting the **** out of the rules with complete confidence and no hesitation. now i suck at typing so sorry if this is confusing.
btw i think some social lubricant or too much is crucial to be able to make it through with the confidence needs. sooooo ONLY WORKS FOR PEOPLE 21+ lol

I respect your opinion but it wasn't luck in can tell you that. I had been planning this doing research to try and guarantee it and it worked. Feel free to lock and delete. I'll just rewrite it and make sure it is more formal for you. So it isn't looked at as junk. When it was a big achievement and my last thread about unlocking had some really decent engagement. I figured a new one wouldn't hurt. Because it was a new situation

Also they didn't just give it to me it is a normal warranty exchange they send phone I send my phone to them if I don't I pay for it
Alright so here is where we are me and google support are emailing back and forth they decided to try to go back on it and issue a device repair as they don't wanna help saying it was bought with TMobile but I 100 percent have a warranty they have even admitted it. So they are saying repair is what the limited warranty covers. No no it isn't all it covers firstly. So I sent them the warranty that i have with all the parts highlighted that's talked about replace and I have a unrepairable device with how ive laid it out. So I'm not to worried truthfully it's frustrating that they are postponing to just make it hard instead of sending off the exchange phone since they already took my card info to protect them
