I'm running a stock 3G Xoom that I use exclusively over WiFi (never had a 3G contract for it). It's running 4.0.4 build IMM76L.
When I go to System Updates, it tells me the update to JZ054M is available and it says "Downloading 97.1 MB" under a gray line. I assume that line should move as it downloads, but it never does.
If I back out of it and then go back to it in portrait mode, I'll see a button "Retry Download" which I'll click and again get nothing. (I never see that button in landscape).
I have tried to force stop Google Services Framework and clear the data, but when I do, I get multiple notifications that other things have stopped working and the data level always remains around 160 KB.
At one point I thought I'd be clever and try to update from IMM76L to JRO03H through USB and then take it up to JZ054M, but when I try that, I get an error message "failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory)". This is another problem I cannot resolve.
I can't afford to wipe it with a factory reset (I have a 6 year-old who would be devastated at game progress being wiped out, and that's not worth it to me). Is there any way to update this device?
Thanks!

Update
Part of the problem seems to have been that my flash drive (at 8GB) was too big. So I moved everything to a 1 GB stick and it read it without a problem. But then I got a NEW error: failed to verify whole-file signature I would think that this would be a corrupt file issue, but I've downloaded the file from old Google links and mirrors I've found here on XDA.
Any thoughts on what to try next?
Thanks!

I've tried installing the new 1.85 OTA update, but it really doesn't seem to be doing anything.
I do "check for updates" then it says a new update is found, so I click download. It says it'll download next time the phone is on Wifi (even though it was currently on wifi). I disconnect from wifi, reconnect to wifi, then it simply said "an update is available for your phone". Then I get the lovable lockout period before I can try again.
Am I doing something wrong?
Any advice or suggestions would be great.

I finally got the update to start downloading! I'm not sure which step it was specifically that fixed it, but here's the list:
In Titanium Backup, I used the "unfreeze all" option. As a side note, I hadn't uninstalled any of the system bloatware, just frozen using CleanTOOL v1.1 from CleanROM.
Moved the date forward about a month.
Dialed "*#*#CHECKIN#*#*" and waited till it said it was successful.
Ran the system update check, got the standard "new update found".
Waited a bit, got the "Please connect to Wifi" message. Previously, it stopped here.
After ~2 minutes, I got a notification that the download had started.
Hopefully the install doesn't nuke.
I did a bit of digging around and found a filed called OTAPkg.zip under /cache.
When I delete the file and run another update attempt, it gets replaced with the same contents.
On closer inspection, it's not even a .zip file, it's actually a .xml file with a zip extension.
I'd upload the contents to pastebin, but as I'm a newbie, I can't link externally. I've attached the XML as a .txt instead.

Hello everyone,
I have a Samsung P1000 GSM tablet which i purchased from Jeddah a few years ago.
Froyo started acting up and Samsung was not releasing any new firmware updates, and so i decided to root and move up to Gingerbread.
I installed 2.3.3 JPJPC and rooted and things were good.
After a while, i installed rom manager from the market, and installed the recovery for the wrong model due to ROM manager not having P1000 listed, which was a reckless move.
Since then, the TAB gets stuck on the samsung screen, and i can tell it is actually sort of trying over and over in an endless loop.
After a few reboots, it comes back, but losing all settings (home screen empty, phone book gone, SMSs gone), and it starts with the welcome wizard (language, packet data etc...).
The bootloader at that point was giving errors about not finding android_reboot and unable to load the mcc ...i'm sure you guys know them.
I read tons of threads about this, but no one actually mentioned that this problem is intermittent! And no definite solution...
Attempts:
I tried loading JPJPD (P1000JPJPD_P1000OJPJPE_P1000JXJP4_HOME.tar) via ODIN 1.7 using gt-p1000_mr_PIT and then dbdata, same thing.
I tried using P1_add_hidden.pit, same thing
I tried using GB-Stock-Safe-v5, same thing, moved again to JPJPD, same thing.
The interesting thing is even ODIN would FAIL the complete (write) then after 1 or 2 retries, it would work (same setup).
I also installed the recovery CF-Root-TAB7_XX_OXA_JQ1-v3.3-CWM3RFS, same thing.
At this stage the recovery works well, and so after each ODIN attempt I was wiping everything...
At this stage I'm trying to figure out if the P1000 is recyclable, organic, or waste!!!:crying:
Can anything be done to stabilize this TAB ?
Thank you,
Bassem
EDIT:
After posting, i entered recovery mode and found the errors i tried describing above have come back again:
"E:internal mmc : open fail
Internal MMC checksum verify failed
# MANUAL MODE#
-- Updating application...
E:failed to mount /preload (No such file or directory)
E:install_application_for_customer:can't mount /preload"
multi-CSC is ok
now when wiping /data:
"Formatting /data....
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2"
I am sure this will be fixed (which happed before) if i repeat the above steps, only to break again after a few reboots.
Hey there,
okay so these Oneplus One OTA problems are getting really annoying..
I can't update to 38R:
When trying via OTA:
Can't install this package on top of incompatible data. Please try another package or run a factory reset
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/cache/.....zip'
E: Error installing zip file 'cache/.....zip'(NOT this common error with an .apk or .xml file in the end - because I didn't edit them).
Trying the modified 38R .zip:
Can't install this package on top of incompatible data. Please try another package or run a factory reset
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcard/.....zip'Zip file verification is unchecked.
Things I did to my phone:
Xposed (uninstalled before)
Franco Kernel (uninstalled before)
Freezed some system apps (defrosted before)
Okay now comes the tricky point: I'm backpacking through asia, I barely have computers around and if I do, mostly guest accounts who won't allow to install anything (here: SDK). So the way over fastboot, which (eventually after 10 hours of trial and error) worked for me last time won't be possible here.
Invested WAY too much time again in doing research and downloading tons of Gigabytes with crappy internet speed. Too proud to open a thread. Damn

Exactly what build are you currently running? If it's anything but 33R it will fail to install. Also, uninstalling Franco still leaves remnants behind that will cause an OTA to fail. Anyway, long story short, your best option is to download the recovery flashable of 38R to your phone, full wipe, and flash it in TWRP. Job done.

Thanks.
Yeah 33R.
Okay I already guessed that I have to take the pain and do a wipe.. gonna wait with that a few says since 44S came out now.
Edit: SOLVED
Hoping someone can roughly point me in the right direction. I'm not very savvy in flashing new ROM's, but I had success with my phone recently, so I decided to try and update my tablet and it's not going so well. It's a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, model GT-P7510MA, which I believe is wifi only. I started off by following the youtube tutorial: 0eAQzxwEVjY
I did *not* make a backup, so shame on me right off the bat, but at least now I've learned this lesson.
There is no OS, but TWRP v2.2.0 is installed and I'm able to boot into it just fine. I'm able to transfer/push files via command line on my windows machine, but I did find something that seemed odd, which is that the top level directory is not named "/sdcard", instead it's just "/". When I transfer files, I have to name the the path "/" for them to show up in the top level directory. If I use "/sdcard", it looks like they upload, but I have no idea where they go. Not sure if there's any significance there, but figured I'd mention it.
The problem is that I can't seem to install any OS. I've tried Nameless 4.4.4, Clockworkmod 10.1, and AOSP 6.0. They all fail the same way, I'll type out what it says below:
--Install /aosp-6.0-p4-20151211.zip ...
Finding update package...
E:unknown volume for path [/aosp-6.0-p4-20151211.zip]
E:Can't mount '/aosp-6.0-p4-20151211.zip'
* Verifying filesystems...
* Verifying partition sizes
Error flashing zip '/aosp-6.0-p4-20151211.zip'
Another strange thing is that when I tried the aosp-6.0-p4wifi, it said that this device was a p4, which I don't think is correct, but that's why I tried the p4 version. It errors just the same. I've also tried to update TWRP, but I'm not sure you can update TWRP from within TWRP? I've tried using the file "twrp-2.8.7.-picassowifi.zip" and it errors the same as the OS'.
Edit: It's been sitting here powered on for a bit and then went to the blue teamwin screen and would flash off every five seconds or so. I figured this was maybe a screensaver? Next it powered off and on restart, all the files I've uploaded are no longer visible.
Any guidance is much appreciated.
Final edit: Kind of embarrassing...all I needed to do to find the /sdcard directory was just scroll down a little through the folders on the left (I thought it was supopsed to be the top directory). I'm pretty sure the 7510 is a wifi only version, but for some reason, none of the wifi ROM's I've tried will work. It gives an error and says my device is a p4 and not a p4wifi. Anyway, neither of the wifi/p4 Marshmallow ROM's will work, but all I had to do was wipe cache/delvic/system (I did do this several times) and factory reset (had not done this before) and install Cyanogenmod for p4 with the recommended Google Apps and all is working well.
I have softbricked my at&t samsung SGH-i727 running Android 2.3. I believe I did this when I was in settings and chose to wipe data from my google wallet app. My phone immedidately shut off. Booting phone now has intro animation with flipping colored tiles and then has a black screen instead of loading the gingerbread 2.3 OS. I think I remember rooting the phone to run outside of at&t network.
I have no recovery backups stored (maybe for the ROM but thats all)
I am able to hold volume up + volume down + power button to enter clockwork mod 5.0.2.7. In separate attempts to be able to boot into android again, I wiped the cache partition, the devlik cache, and repaired permissions. All these functions seemed to work in CWM.
The next step was to try and mount data and recover files to a PC. I encountered this problem:
E: unable to write to ums lunfile (no such file or directory)
After some research on this forum, apparently this version of CWM might not have this function working properly. I thought it was my golden ticket to get my files backed up to PC.
Can someone advise on my next step. It seems there is software for helping me that costs $40-$140, but it isn’t clear to me that it will help. I think the software wants me to put phone in download mode and then connect to the software on my PC.
I am looking to first recover photos, contacts, and message history. After that, getting the phone back to it’s working state would be a nice bonus.
Google Play has not worked for me for at least 3.5 years. Some core apps were still working great though. I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. It is not clear if I’m able to charge the phone since I have no feedback for the charging status. TIA !
