[Q] OTA Update Accepted... then nothing? [FIXED] - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I've tried installing the new 1.85 OTA update, but it really doesn't seem to be doing anything.
I do "check for updates" then it says a new update is found, so I click download. It says it'll download next time the phone is on Wifi (even though it was currently on wifi). I disconnect from wifi, reconnect to wifi, then it simply said "an update is available for your phone". Then I get the lovable lockout period before I can try again.
Am I doing something wrong?
Any advice or suggestions would be great.
HTC One XL on AT&T
Rooted and locked, running 1.73 from RUU
----------------------------
I finally got the update to start downloading! I'm not sure which step it was specifically that fixed it, but here's the list:
In Titanium Backup, I used the "unfreeze all" option. As a side note, I hadn't uninstalled any of the system bloatware, just frozen using CleanTOOL v1.1 from CleanROM.
Moved the date forward about a month.
Dialed "*#*#CHECKIN#*#*" and waited till it said it was successful.
Ran the system update check, got the standard "new update found".
Waited a bit, got the "Please connect to Wifi" message. Previously, it stopped here.
After ~2 minutes, I got a notification that the download had started.
Hopefully the install doesn't nuke.

I did a bit of digging around and found a filed called OTAPkg.zip under /cache.
When I delete the file and run another update attempt, it gets replaced with the same contents.
On closer inspection, it's not even a .zip file, it's actually a .xml file with a zip extension.
I'd upload the contents to pastebin, but as I'm a newbie, I can't link externally. I've attached the XML as a .txt instead.

[Q] A lot of problems.

I got my new ASUS transformer on monday. So far i have been impressed
BUT
There is a laundry list of problems that I haven't seen anywhere.
1) I keep getting frequent android.process.acore force close (This is reoccuring and really annoying)
2) The device turns off by itself a lot
3) Most of the time it doesn't boot up, it just hangs and then tries it again
4) I cannot get updates
5) I cannot manually apply updates because I get the triangle when I try to apply them
6) I cannot download market apps
7) It doesnt charge when I plug it in the computer, but i can transfer files
I talked to ASUS about it and they just referred me to the website where i can DL firmware. Are there ANY suggestions, or do you guys think i'll have to send it in/get a new one?

I had the exact same problem as you after I downgrade from "Leaked 3.1 update" to 3.0.1 yesterday morning.
Here is what you need to do:
1) Go to this website: http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...-asus-eee-pad-transformer-android-3-1-update/
Download the EP101_SDUPDATE.zip file onto your computer.
2) You can either follow the instruction on www.androidpolice.com on how to install the Leaked 3.1 update" or you can do the following:
a) create a folder called "Asus" on your microsd card.
b) create a folder within "Asus" folder called "Update".
c) transfer the downloaded "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip" file onto your microsd card.
d) Rename the .zip file to some like: US_epad-user-8.2.3.14.zip (this is what I named mine).
e) insert your microsd card into your tablet. It will recognize the microsd card.
f) your tablet will have an exclamation icon on the lower right corner indicating that it has an update.
g) Click on that icon and install the update. The tablet will power off and install the new update. It normally take 3 to 5 minutes to finish.
I would recommend removing the .zip file after you update to 3.1.
I was informed to do a system wipe after updating to 3.1 but I don't think it's necessary.
Let me know if this helps.
Mike
I am still getting the same problem where it has the triangle and android when I try to apply the update.
That's because you renamed the file.
It has to stay as "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip" or it won't work.
Also number 7 on your list is not an issue at all. Your computer does not push out enough voltage to "charge" the device. It needs to be USB 3.0. However you'll notice when you plug your device into the computer with the screen off it charges at a few % per hour.

I kept the zip file name as "EP101_SDUPDATE.zip" and my TF did not recognize it after I unmount and remount my microsd card... It recognized it after I renamed it...

Maybe you can also try the method mentioned in www.androidpolice.com... Hopefully this method will allow you to flash the 3.1 update.
Mike
Either way it is not letting me update, it keeps getting hung when applying the update. I have wiped data and tried it, same thing.
i used to get the triangle and i solved it by installing a custom rom through CWM. i asked for help many times with no luck.
would that be worth it? or should i just send it in for a properly working unit? I mean i do not want to root it just yet, i just want a working unit.

Did you apply any update since you first purchased your TF? When did this problem started?

Follow this step by step, if it does not work then you have a different problem with your unit OR there is an issue with your sd card and you should probably format it or try a different one.

That's directly from Asus, I have no idea why androidpolice keeps getting brought up but their information is incomplete.
Go with what asus has directly on their site.

Need I997UCLB3-CWM-root-deodex-extras.rar

Two days ago, I used Odin to flash "Option A" I997UCLB3-root.rar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1613523.html) and ended up with a nice rooted version of 2.3.6. However, every time I try to install CWM, I get a file verification error in the default recovery mode (3e). I've used both ROM Manager and the recovery mode option using the .zip file direct from clockworkmod.com with no luck.
I've been searching around for a while now, and it looks like I just chose the wrong option for my initial CF Root, I should have gone with "Option C" I997UCLB3-CWM-root-deodex-extras.rar. Sounds like an easy fix, but the file is unavailable due to a server upgrade on Dev-Host. I've been messing with this for so long I'm extremely impatient at this point and wanted to see if anyone has the file they can share.
Thanks!
Ok nevermind, I997UCLB3-CWM-root-deodex.rar. Of course I figured this out 2 minutes after posting my original thread. Damn.

[Q] How to debug OTA update failure?

I got JB OTA update, but it failed after my phone rebooted.
Where do I find the error log? What are the usual troubleshooting steps?
My phone is rooted, but that's the only change I remember making. Can't figure out why update keeps failing.
Couple questions, you didn't install custom recovery did you? I know it says only rooted, but just double checking. Also, did you freeze any apps....any at all?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No custom recovery. No frozen apps.
I haven't had any problems with the previous update (VRLHE).
Is there a log file saved somewhere on the phone with the error message?

Solved!
Found the solution. After poking around in the file system I found install log in
/cache/recovery/last_log
So, if anyone is having upgrade problems that's the log file you should be looking at for error messages.
Turned out I disabled camera click by renaming the sound file and completely forgot about it :silly:.
In my case this was the error message that pointed to the problem:
"failed to stat "/system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg": No such file or directory"

Thanks this helped me figure out why I wasn't able to get the updates....although it was a for a different error. I had disabled the shutter sound.

Oh, something silly might be the cause of my issue, as well.
EDIT:
After rooting to view the install_log file contents, it appeared that my install failed because "/system/lib/libjni_emailspellcheck.so" was not on my phone - what a ridiculous error to hold up a major OS upgrade.
I found Incubus' JellyBomb ROM at the VRLHE level and copied libjni_emailspellcheck.so from that to my phone in the proper subdirectory. Re-installed the JellyBean 4.1.1. OTA and everything went fine.
Weatherbug and some other apps are JellyBean-ized, it appears. Cool.

The sneaky bastards at Verizon tried to push the OTA yesterday evening. The phone was in my pocket and it started getting warm. Pulled it out and saw the update failed message. "last_log" showed it couldn't find VzTones.apk. Well, I had deleted that after backing up in TiBackup, but had reinstalled it a week or so ago. Apparently, when ti restored the apk it wound up being named "com.vzw.hs.android.modlite-1.apk", or at least that's my assumption since the icon is the same. I renamed it, but the update failed (dl via wifi this time. Why does it have to download again, by the way?) again because VzTones didn't have the "expected sha1 sums", whatever that means. I gave up and used this method to get the update, root, and unlocked bootloader.
I think I preferred flashing my Moment to this.
Here's a question: Does that 400mb download count against your data plan?

[Q] Can't Update from IMM76L to JZ054M

I'm running a stock 3G Xoom that I use exclusively over WiFi (never had a 3G contract for it). It's running 4.0.4 build IMM76L.
When I go to System Updates, it tells me the update to JZ054M is available and it says "Downloading 97.1 MB" under a gray line. I assume that line should move as it downloads, but it never does.
If I back out of it and then go back to it in portrait mode, I'll see a button "Retry Download" which I'll click and again get nothing. (I never see that button in landscape).
I have tried to force stop Google Services Framework and clear the data, but when I do, I get multiple notifications that other things have stopped working and the data level always remains around 160 KB.
At one point I thought I'd be clever and try to update from IMM76L to JRO03H through USB and then take it up to JZ054M, but when I try that, I get an error message "failed to mount /sdcard (no such file or directory)". This is another problem I cannot resolve.
I can't afford to wipe it with a factory reset (I have a 6 year-old who would be devastated at game progress being wiped out, and that's not worth it to me). Is there any way to update this device?
Thanks!

Update
Part of the problem seems to have been that my flash drive (at 8GB) was too big. So I moved everything to a 1 GB stick and it read it without a problem. But then I got a NEW error: failed to verify whole-file signature I would think that this would be a corrupt file issue, but I've downloaded the file from old Google links and mirrors I've found here on XDA.
Any thoughts on what to try next?
Thanks!

AT&T Capture OTA Update URL for Android 11

We all know that users who own AT6T devices are not able to receive OTA updates if they are not part of the AT&T network or are outside the US.
Can someone who uses AT&T capture OTA update url link for Android 11, so that we who are unable to receive OTA updates can manually upgrade our devices ?
Also you can use this "OTA Link" app for capture url,
Edit: to working app properly you need first Clear Google Play Services
I think it would be very useful for the whole community who does not use AT&T services.
Im in the process of doing that. will get a sim from At&t in a few days and follow the guide you provide.
Oh man... eagerly waiting for this...still stuck on April 2020 update
I will send my gratitude beforehand as I am also waiting

Installed the app and is not showing any link to copy. I don't know how to cancel the update and start from zero. I only manage to turn off wifi to avoid finish the download

I hope no update is installed, so as not to download the update, Turn off wifi or via ADB you can run this command
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user com.lge.lgdmsclientatt
to disable apk for update, also you can stop connection over change DNS to private set for dns anything like "blabla.com" and internet connection will be stopped or go to go to ‘Settings’ → ‘System’ → ‘Developer options’ and turn off the ‘Automatic system updates’ toggle.".
maybe you are not runed logchat before stated uta updating.
if you using apk OTA link app, must be granted permissions via adb.
I'm not sure if it's possible to delete the OTA ZIP that is already in the process of updating, if you can factory reset the phone then remove the sim card, after deleting it will have to download again however prepare according to the old method of capturing the link again.
I did grant permision to the app with adb, I followed the insructions on the guide, I dont know if this is android 11 update or what, doesn't event mention on the update. I turn off wifi to prevent from donwloading the update, the I turn on the wifi and will download automatically I try the ota lext logcat several times after download resume but again I can't find the download adress using all those keywords. I'm going to try again this evening, and yes the automatic system updtaes is off

Thank you for your effort.
Maybe these methods no longer work on newer android systems, then the only thing left is to listen to the connection via computer, when I have the will I will study and write a tutorial.
One question, can you ask AT&T support can you get OTA update in roaming ?
Hey all, on Cricket here. Borrowed my friends AT&T sim today and got the notification to update almost instantly. Will attempt to capture the file later today, will post an update.

I'm not sure how much the described method really works for android 11 because the previous try od user is not successful, study a little how to catch traffic via computer, with Fidder, Wireshark and similar tools
Tried all methods, the download just started automatically when it connected to wifi and is now completed. I tired the app, wireshark, bug report methods and all failed. The update is NOT yet installed, just downloaded. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I have no suggestions, the .zip file cannot be accessed directly without root permissions if ota downloaded.
Thank you for your effort
Don't know how these updates work on these newer devices or what kind of system AT&T use, but normally LG OTA updates aren't zips. Previously if any bigger update, the path was /data/fota/dlpkgfile and if smaller then same on /cache. Updates were possible flashable using LGUP - or maybe if put to the certain path to the /sdcard having .UP as extension and using Hidden Menu's FOTA Test...
Used SandroProxy to catch the urls... server's address was h t t p://dl01.gdms.lge.com:5005/ back then...

Is there anyone here who is on Android 10 and has the ability to update to android 11 or any future update from ATT?
Waiting for the updare, too. If it's possible to update with a ATT sim in other countries, I would buy one via Amazon or something...
