New SIM card inserted. Please restart - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm on the T-Mobile $30 plan and for the first month of the phone I've had no issues. More recently I have been seeing the message in the subject popup on my phone lately. I have reseated my SIM card. I'm not sure if getting a different SIM will make a difference. My wife has the slightly new revision white (311) I believe and hasn't seen this issue yet.

4G sim card problem

I just wanted to put this information out for the masses. Today I switched phones on my account to a non 4G phone to do some work on it when switching back to my TB the system gave me an error saying my sim card could not activate and to call Verizon. Calling Verizon did not help I was told that the sim card number was placed in retirement and could not be reactivated. I was told when I purchased the phone that the sim card was attached to a phone number that you would keep the card with each 4G device you have. I now have to get a new card. So if you are thinking about making any changes on your line with your 4G phone you might not want to. I hope this is not going to be an ongoing problem with Verizon as I move phones around a lot on my line.

4g sim card problem
I too had a similar issue. I had a number on a 3G phone that I wanted to move to a 4G phone. They had to do it in two steps as once they added a number to a sim card the only way to change it was to swap it to another sim card and retire the old one.
I was told it's a software bug in the Verizon system, and they are working on fixing it. Since Verizon doesn't charge for sim cards right now you should be able to transfer to a new sim card at no cost.
this is how all SIM cards are for all carriers. Once deactivated, they cannot be reactivated

What he said.
Plus: its a new network tech. The only lte network in existence. I'm sure the process will become more streamlined.

[Q] Did you had to replace your SIM card after using XT720 for a while?

like the topic says
did any of you had to replace your SIM card after using XT720 for a while? like after a few months or few weeks?
i know a friend of mine he had to change his SIM card after a few weeks
and now my own XT720 is constantly losing the SIM card, until i reboot the phone
if i take out the SIM card i see 2 contact spot that seems to be worn, which was previously normal.
it seems to be related to how often you use the Vibrate option
replacing a new SIM card with the network provider fixes the issue of course.
just wanted to see if other have experienced this issue
thanks
I know generally on WIND, sim cards tend to burn out for some reason. Haven't experienced it myself but I know its a frequent occurrence with some.
Yea I had the same problem. Cincinnati bell replaced my sim card for free. I originally had a regular sim card and they bumped me up to the 3g card. Which was no different but a different color. I lost service all together and it wouldn't return. Its prolly the oven Motorola hid in this thing heating the card up.

I had to replace mine within a few months, and I am also on WIND. Though, mine was an older generation (white SIM card), and they upgraded me to the 'Blackberry generation', which has the black color.
No, ive been using this sim card since 7 years lol on multiple phones and its seen countless hours of vibration. Really weird that you mention it because Im sure the carriers in my country make the ****tiest sim cards.
I've been using my XT720 on WIND with the black SIM card since Sept.2010 no failures yet.

That is funny bc I have been using my same one for about 6 years too. Now that I say that though, it will probably peter out on me. Crap....
I've been using this SIM card since 2 yrs ago and I switch it from one phone to another a lot. it's pretty worn-out by now. but still, it's working perfectly with my XT. no problems yet.

I used my sim card from an old phone when buying this and the cbw rep. put it in for me but failed to tell me it wasn't a 3g sim card. So now I have a 3g sim card and it is better. You all with old sim cards sure they are 3g cards? Just askin just in case lol.

Ya, luckily, my 2 yrs old card is HSDPA capable sim card. (Thanks to StarHub) ;D
that's a good point you guys bring up
all the SIM cards that "burned" / "worn", or whatever might have happened to them were the white ones
the black ones are fine
sorry for the false alarm guys, seems like it was a WIND specific problem with a crappy batch of white SIM cards
Yes I had to replace my sdcard. The one that came with the phone became corrupted when I was running 2.1 a while back. I bought a class 6 and it has worked better but lately I keep finding files becoming corrupted out of the blue...
*edit* sorry wrong thread I thought it said SDCARD
Sim card never been replaced since i inserted it back in Feb 2011 so 6 months
Was using an X10i and it constantly had issues with sim card, its dropped it like every 30 min.
I had to swap etc.
Alternative was to get a replacement in some weird shop. I didnt go for it.
Got an xt720 ad only looked back to sigh and x10's getting 2.3
I have not had to replace it per-say, but I have had to remove it once or twice and put it back in because the phone said my SIM card was not in the device.

Hot sim card, and now no sim.

I have had my Infuse for about 2 weeks now. From the day I got it, I noticed it would completely lock up and start vibrating. Last week i noticed the sim card was getting hot. This morning I was using it with no problems. I set it on the table, and when I picked it up to use it, the phone was showing a "No Sim" message. I have removed the sim and rebooted several times, but it still says "No Sim." Is my phone pretty much shot?

Wow, never heard of that before. Even if there is a fix for your issues id bring it back, since its only 2 weeks old the store should exchange right in the store. If you wait past 30 days than you may have to send it out for warrenty replacement.

Thanks Nash. The only problem is this phone was a replacement phone that my cousin got when he had problems with his first Infuse. They day this one arrived I traded my iPhone 4 for this Infuse. I'm not sure if AT&T will even do anything at this point. Looks like I might have to send it back to Samsung.
I forgot to mention that I am using the SIM card from my iPhone 4. It is smaller then the actual SIM card slot on the phone. I just took the card out and re-centered it, and now it works. I'm thinking I need to go in and upgrade my SIM card. I'll still take it in for the other problems, but for now at least I can make calls.
The first thing i would suggest would be the sim card. I have also had good luck with att's warranty center on the phone. I bought a samsung captivate from craigs list. The service rep said my account said I got the phone in like November (mind you I don't call att and change my imei unless with an upgrade). Told them I had the random shutdown problem and they replaced it no questions asked.

Yes you should replace your ip4 sim for one that fits, only thing is- I'm sure att will change your number from iphone to Infuse, with that pending, I'm not sure if samsung will warrenty that phone since you weren't origianlly contracted to that phone, I could be wrong. I do know that att can downgrade your data package by switching phones. I bought my gf an inspire from craigslist, I was told that att was releaseing an update for inspires to have "unknown sourses" but you had to call and request it. I called and when they asked for my account info and phone number they noticed that phone number went to a samsung captivate. I said that phone broke so I picked up a replacement. They said they would have to change account from captivate to Inspire, I said go a head. Than they told me said I'm having work done to a non contracted phone, I will loose my unlimited data. I said touch my data and I'm gone to verizon...cancel my request. I later called back and explained, they left me alone and updated my phone. Kinda messed up what att can or try to do to your account.

Thanks for the info guys. I just landed in San Diego and walked over to the At&t store near the hotel. They replaced the similar card with no questions asked for free. Nothing changed on my account. The sales Rep said his Infuse has the same freeze with the vibrating problem as well.
You need to go make a full size similar card, or get one from at&t

Sim error upon waking up

I notice lately I have been having sim card errors when I wake up the morning. I am having to restart the phone to get connections working. This was not a problem before is this baseband related or something?
I've had them for a long time and whenever I've talked with T-Mobile, they tell me it's a common issue with the phone.
I read about it quite a lot before getting my S. Apparently the S is kinda sensitive with sim cards.
My card, for example, didnt work at all in the S. I had to get a new one from my provider.
So, Id say you need a new sim card. I wouldnt call it an "issue with the phone", its just picky
I'm on my 5th sims from my provider. Lol it's a know issue, especially with the tmous version. At least that what the tmob tech told me

No SIM

I have been getting a no SIM error on my Verizon Note 5. Probably happened 5 times in the past 2 weeks. Reboot temporarily fixes the problem.
Anyone else having a similar problem? I will probably try to get a new sim from Verizon.

No issue here. Have you re-inserted the SIM card? If that doesn't help take it to Verizon.

Same problem here. Was really bad last week and now hasn't happened for a couple of days.
I ended up getting a new sim card yesterday from Verizon

Happens to me at least 2-3 a week. Also drops from 4G to 3g, and sometimes my service doesn't even work. A coworker who has a Note 4 on Verizon mentions he has to restart his phone every few days as well because his connection just goes out sometime. I don't know if it's a software issue or if Verizon is just being ****ty right now
I finally got the sim replaced today. Hopefully this will fix it. Really don't want to reset the phone or exchange it.

I had the error once or twice since I swapped Sims. I have not had it happen again since that last post.
The only thing I did is clean the sim card and blow out the sim port.

I ended up going to get a new Sim and no more issues with it. I do see any times I lose data connection and then it reconnects.

I was at Verizon was out when my phone froze...waited 1.5hrs, when all needed to be done was hold the power button and the down volume button simultaneously to create a battery disconnect to reboot....I asked about this same issue as I was doing a system reboot when the Note 5 froze....she said the phone when not receiving service will automatically switch to "global" to maintain connection but can't switch back...need to go to settings->mobile networks->check the network mode to verify it's in the lte/cdma mode, if not select that.....IDK, it happened at my house where I have a network extender, so that shouldn't have happened.....saw this solution somewhere else....saying the slot may be a little loose causing the connection to be unreliable, I'd start w/ something thinner than copy paper first....or wait for the "masters" to comment....:
If there is a little room for SIM movement in the slot then the contacts between the phone and the SIM will not meet causing this issue. Try to cut a piece of paper the size of the SIM card and place it on top of the SIM ( not on the side where the gold connector is). Insert both in the SIM slot then check if the problem still occurs.
This happen with my galaxy 4, and i changed the sim card, but the problem still happened, now my new galaxy note 5 start the same way. Sucks
Me too
I have been having the same issue twice a day now for at least a week. Guess I need to make a trip to the Verizon Store.
I had this same problem, started out once a week, moved up to a few times a week, then finally when it was a few times a day I went and got a new sim. They told me if this doesnt work bring it back in and they will give me a "new used" phone.
2 weeks without the issue, phone bumps the nightstand a little too hard and starts happening again.
I pulled out the sim tray, cut a piece of packing tape to match its shape. Put the sim in and layered the tape over it. Seems to have resolved 99% of my "no sim" issues. I say 99% because it happened once in about 6 weeks since I taped the sim in place.
