Lately out of the blue when I pull my phone out my pocket I see a pop up saying sim card not detected then I have 2 options. Shutdown or reboot. Is this the phone quality built a little out of place or what? I'm sure someone here has seen this message if not all of ya have.

Personally I would go to ATT and see if you can get a new sim...because apparently something is not right with the sim card.
or or or
It could be the ROM you are running, If you are running a Rom...
Running android revolution 5.1.6. Crazy how could it be the rom?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA Premium App
Possibly just a bad installation...
Although it is a reliable ROM they all have glitches, possibly it is the ROM and you should try re flashing it and if the problem is fixed you know it was the ROM, and if it doesnt work Like i said before, your going to have to take a trip to ATT.
It could also be some type of hardware failure in your phone, not sure though.
Have you tried using the SIM in a different phone?
Faulty SIMs aren't unheard of.
Nope just this one. It only pops up every now and then but today it did it twice back to back so now I was like wtf. And decided to ask if anybody else seen this before.

My sister once had a bad 3G SIM card that would only work on EDGE. We were right by an EDGE/3G border, so we could take 3 steps forward and have a working phone in the EDGE zone, or 3 steps back into 3G and have nothing.
My Tilt phone worked fine in both "zones," so I put in her SIM and had no signal in the 3G area, heh.
Oh.. well if the problem is persistant ill just get then to make me another similar

Uh oh...
Same problem for me here as well. Running CM7, was working fine until later in the evening when suddenly the network "died", and after several reboots noticed the little SIM problem icon next to the signal meter. I had the card locked, but went into settings and unlocked it. Now, logically if the phone couldn't read the card then technically I shouldn't have been able to change the PIN, so...
Confused over here. Is there a known fix to this? Or worse - how do I broach the subject with ATT if I have to go in?

I don't know about the fix about it, but concerning talking with AT&T, I'd recommend calling Warranty exchange first. They'll let you go through some hoops like getting your imei and possibly cleaning out your sim card with a rubber eraser. They'll also run some network tests on your phone to see if there are any "down towers" in your area. In the end, just request for a replacement sim card from them and have them note on your account that you want to get it free. Ask for confirmation if it's in your account, then head for the nearest AT&T corporate store. They'll tell you you'll have to pay $25 to get a replacement sim card or something, but just say that warranty sent you and it's noted on the account: should get you your sim for free, if possible.
I have never had a problem getting a new sim card for free from a corporate store. Just go in and ask for one.
Is anyone else having issues with their Wifi-Calling on T-mobile?
I find that the wifi-calling app gets stuck at the stage there the app reads: "Enabling..."
* This is on either stock unrooted GB ROM or Xboarder's tweaked GB.
* Happening on two different routers in two different homes, different ISPs. Both
were working previously.
* I noticed this recently upon returned home from a long trip. During the trip, I had good cell coverage and didn't need the wifi-calling function anyway.
* T-mobile CSR reports an outage:
_Irina M: Ok, we are experiencing an issue with the G2X not able to establish a WIFI connection.
_Irina M: I will post the outage for you.
_Irina M: EFFECTIVE DATE: 11/7/11 OUTAGE TYPE: UMA...................................
MARKET AFFECTED: All
...................................
CUSTOMER IMPACT: G2X Cannot Activate Wifi Calling
T-Mobile subscribers may be reporting issues with the G2X encountering errors when attempting to activate Wifi calling. The device may show "enabling" but never connects.
Please Note: This issue is pending a software update but until this is released customers can upgrade to an UICC SIM card to resolve this issue.
MARKET/SERVICE IMPACTS TO: Global / Wifi Calling
CAUSE: n/a
* Despite this answer from t-mobile, I think it might be related to my recent change of a SIM card. I was having another unrelated issue and CS suggested I get a new SIM. The new SIM did not solve my issue. But now I have a new one. I did get a new SIM today, but this did not solve my problem. For the life of me, I cannot find my old SIM to reactivate.
Any one having the same issue? Can anyone test their phones to see what is what? Thanks.
11/18/11... I tested using a sim card from an Sgs4g with working 4g and wifi-calling. With this SIM in my g2x, wifi-calling was working again. It appears to me that my newer SIM cards x 2 break wifi calling.
If only I had my old card. Ironic that there was nothing wrong with that card in the first place.
I don't use wifi calling but my wifi does cut out and stop working randomly. Right now I'm only showing one bar even though I'm Lees than 10 ft from my router. This phone seems to have random wifi issues and I remember reading something online conforming it, but I don't remember where.
Sent from my G2X
I have that problem (stuck at "enabling") a couple of times a month. I generally take that as an indication that it's time for a reboot, and so far a reboot has always fixed the problem for me.
No I'm experiencing it too. It was working last night I know (at home) and it was working this morning.
My GF just called me at work, which was odd... and this makes sense. My WiFi Calling is stuck at "Enabling" also.
Tmobile has gotten rid of WiFi Calling on the newer phones because they are moving to a "new" standard. The new standard requires a new SIM card. WiFi Tethering is also not working out of the box.
Something is strange.
I even went into Apps and did a Force Stop and cleared cache and tried to launch it again... it just closes and never enables.
*UPDATE*
Now its working.
I never have connection problems, but the sound quality is terrible. The person on the other end sounds real robotic and choppy. It was like this even on my blackberry.
Now its saying invalid SIM. Sweet.

See my update above. I think T-Mobile has changed the sim cards but not yet updated the software. If anyone is using wifi calling, then hold on to your cards until they fix this.

I have never used it but decided to test it because of this thread. Works great on weapon 3.0.
I bought an old sim card off eBay but haven't activated. May try it out. I'm on CM7 and it hasn't worked in days.

I am using an old similar card, wifi calling working fine, but I can't use Bluetooth.
Nightly 199, faux cm kernel.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi calling should not be affected by your SIM card in any way on the G2x.
You need a gsa sim. These sim cards are made in the usa. Yea America!!!! **** yeah.
No but on some real talk the sim cards made in America are good quality.
India, China, and Mexico made ones do not support wifi calling. Plus they go out every month

I swapped my wife's sim card (about one year old) with my newer one. I asked customer care to reprogram our phone numbers. Either card supports wifi calling in the Galaxy S 4g. The old card supports wifi calling in my g2x.
When I get to an area of known good coverage, I will run a speedtest to see if I lose any speed using the older card.

Where and how to find old simcard?
I called Tmobile service yesterday. 3 different rep told me that I need newer sim which support 4G and wifi calling and offered to upgrade the new sim card for 20 bucks. I got mad and asked to talk with mananger. Finally a tech rep honestly told me that there is issue with wifi calling for G2X and their engineers are working on the fix, but no date of completion yet.
She sent me to a tmobile store to get a new sim card, and said it might solve the problem, but not sure 100%.
I went to the store, change new sim card at no charge. but the wifi calling still not working.
now, I saw people put the comment in this forum that we need old sim card. How do I indenfify the old sim card? what number? or serial number ect???
Can I get it from ebay?
Thanks
Alpharetta.

OK.. I resolved the problem. I had TM9073 and it did not work with MUI ROM.. so I changed to newer sim card TM9102, and it still not work for wifi calling. I then read about the issue with MUI ROM. the wifi calling only work with CM7 ROM. So I reflash G2x with CM7, and still use TM9102 sim..
It takes 5 minutes to enable the wifi calling feature.. but it works now... so first thing first.. you need to make sure you have the correct ROM... and then sim.
Wifi calling on MIUI has only worked for me 3 times. That was on the first boot. I had the newer sim card. Just recently bought a older sim card and now wifi calling works for MIUI every time!!

It is the TM9073 Sim that is working properly on all other roms. The TM9102 is the Sim having problems with WiFi.
My first One X was showing this "Preparing SIM" message periodically and I eventually had the phone replaced when connections to Rogers service would drop out. In order to reconnect a reboot was required.
My 2nd device although stays connected to Rogers service just fine but I am still getting the "preparing SIM" message ever now and then.
The Rogers support people could not say anything about the message but I did have them put it on my record that I am experiencing it in the even that there is a problem after the initial no haggle swap period has passed.
If you are also having this message come up I would suggest you call into support and have them note that you are having this issue. Not that you will need to have the phone replaced but in the even you do, it's there on your account.
Has anyone else seen this on their phone?

Hey i used to have this problem. When i was using Sense.. Try using Apex Launcher and let me know if you have the problem still.
I've got the issue from your first phone. Been wondering if it's a hardware or a software issue. Seems to happen more often when I am farther from toronto, getting a worse lte signal. Could be anecdotal though. Don't know if I should exchange it for another one
Using apex since day one

I have an AT&T hox...the same thing happens to mine. Also, on the notification bar, it's has a triangle with an ! in it and next to it says something about restricted access. At first I thought it was they were getting Jacksonville fl ready for lte...nope.
Same thing on mine. Was on the phone with Rogers today and after disabling LTE on my end and switching to HSPA+, my data has returned and is working normally now.
Beamed from my Rogers HTC One XL
just got off the phone with At&T and HTC technical support...their answer was
huh? Never heard of that...most probably sim card reader going bad...
Wtf...and it just did it again. Going to return this phone for another one tomorrow.

So, do you get the replacement Artimus? How's your replacement?
Last time I went to replace mine, the manager give me a hard time. He replace my sim card, but I still notice it at least once a day. Now, the situation is bad because this phone is out of stock.
Please let us know your experience. Thanks...
Update: I have since done a factory reset and haven't experienced the issue since. LTE is working fine on Rogers now too.

I've been getting this message for a while, possibly since I first got the phone. It is hard to pinpoint when exactly it started because I only see it when I use the phone for a long time. What exactly happens is at seemingly random times when using the phone, the connection is lost (0 bars with an x in the top right) and a card icon appears for a short amount of time in the notification bar. A second or two later a message pops up saying Preparing SIM card... and then everything is back to normal. I am using the leaked radio but I'm pretty sure it has happened on every radio I've used. I only have a few days left to return it so I am wondering if this problem is happening to anyone else?
I would try a different SIM and if the problem persists, exchange the phone
I exchanged one of my HOXs for this exact reason.

The HT24 and HT25 build of the HOX, use a different manufacture SIM card reader. Motorola instead of Toshiba. (I will post up the email from HTC about that I can't access it from my phone). The Motorola card reader tray part is 0.02mm deeper. Aperently that's enough for one of the contacts to lift off SIM card. The email also referred to getting AT&T to send a new SIM card (new version of it is a touch thicker) model type 'Q' I think. But when I asked AT&T about it they had no idea what I was talking but they call the sim card issue a manufacturing defect. But, according to HTC the change was made to increase cell signal strength and reliability.

Very interesting. I've had minor issues with my connection getting a little out of whack from time to time, so I switch airplane mode on and off to 'reset' the connection. Each time I do this, the get the preparing SIM message, but ONLY after going in and out of airport mode, not randomly on it's own. In any event, I have an HT24 model so maybe this is the same thing I'm experiencing. My SIM tray has never been quite flush with the phone surface. It's effectively flush, but I can tell it doesn't sit perfectly. Anyone else with the SIM issue notice this about their tray?

Yesterday, I received a new StraightTalk MicroSIM (ATT compatible) for my new Nexus 5. I have been using a StraightTalk T-Mobile compatible one that I used in my old phone. I activated the new SIM, using the automated phone system. This morning I saw that my phone still had no service. That is, zero bars, I cannot make calls or text. Of course data doesn't work either. I logged into my account and it said that the transfer to the new SIM is complete. So I called StraightTalk and was transferred 5 times to people who did the same trouble shooting with me every time. Their trouble shooting: power off your phone, take out your SIM and then start it back up. Then they said they need to send me a new SIM card.... Here is my issue, I feel like they don't know what they are doing so their answer is just to send me another SIM.
My question: Did anyone else have this experience or ideas on getting the phone to work? I've tried different APNs with no different results.
Okay, this is odd. I figured, since I won't have phone service for a while, I would root my phone. After I rooted my phone, everything works. I can make calls and data works. Not sure what changed but when the device was rooted, it also did a factory reset. After 50 minutes of crappy customer service, I think I'll just take the new SIM card they are sending.
Takes a while for them to activate it sometimes. I was with customer services for 2 hours trying to activate my Sim card because it wouldn't let me online.
Their customer service, signal penetration might suck, but it's way cheaper, which I'm good with.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
I wonder if maybe that is what happened but I think it probably had to do with the factory reset.
I do want to post one final thing since everything has played out today... On the phone I asked them to expedite the package since this is my work phone and ONLY phone. Today, FedEx delivered a new SIM card... it was the card only. No other packaging or information. It was the wrong SIM... I needed a micro and they sent a regular SIM... but at least they tried. After receiving the SIM today, I don't feel so bad about the situation. Things may have been different if my phone didn't miraculously start working. I would have had to cut down the regular sized SIM... to find out if it is an ATT or Tmobile version... it's probably the Tmobile versions, since I ordered the ATT version. Thats how things go... have a good day!
READ THE NEXT POST FOR CONTINUED ISSUES
*** I'm going to keep posting my experience, in case anyone else can find the information useful. ***
My service should have Auto-Refilled today. However, when I went to make a call, I found out my service was deactivated. I thought maybe Auto-Refill was disabled when I transferred to the new microSIM. Unfortunately, after spending another 45 minutes on the phone with customer service, I found out that they activated the replacement SIM that they sent me... the one that doesn't fit my phone and appears to be a Tmobile SIM. So, instead of just re-activating the microSIM that was working yesterday, they have to send me another one. I confirmed with them that they will be sending an AT&T compatible microSIM. We will see what I receive.
