Custom notification / ringtones - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Had anybody had problems setting custom ringtones or notifications. I have dropped the mp3s into the relevant folders just like I've done with other Androids phones. However they never appear in the ringtone or notification list under settings > sounds.

Use MP3 as notification tones

Open my files. Search for where you stored your ring tones. Then open this file. Press menu key select more, then select copy. Copy which tone you want. Then click paste here. Open media, then open audio, then open notifications and paste the selections there. You can then change you notification tones to the ones you selected by going through the sound and display settings. Hope this helps anyone who wants to change their notification tone to something other than what is set in the default menu of tones! You can also change the text notification tone after doing this. All this can be done without rooting your phone!
THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure that out since I got the phone 4 weeks ago.
It might be easier to just create a folder called Notifications on the root and put them there.

Or you can download "rings extended" from the market which changes your ringtone chooser module, thus enabling you to choose any mp3 song as ringtone/notification etc.
More good info, thank you.

The app ringdroid let's you choose an mp3 file and trim a certain part out of it. You can then save it as a notification tone or a ring tone. Then just go to your options and choose it out of the list it is what i do and it works perfectly

Astro problem?

I use Astro file manager. I like it above others as many do. Since updating to 2.1 i can no longer set media files i have as ring tones or notifications. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I can long press the file and the option "set as" comes up but then ringtone is not highlighted as a selectable option. And yes ut is the pro version.
Thanks

Ringtone management

is there a good app for ringtone management? i use zedge to download all of my ringtones but for some it stopped showing the ringtones i downloaded in the app, so i created a ringtones and notifications folder on my sd card and started sorting them between the two folders is there a way to have zedge pick up all my ringtones i downloaded from it? or an app that will save me from sorting the ringtones between two directories?
I don't know of a ringtone management app. Most ringtone apps I have usually just create their own folder for content you download through the app. If I find/think if something I will post back!

Yea zedge creates a folder on your sdcard and stores ringtones/backgrounds but its not showing the ringtones stored there in the app.
Thanks.

How to use an MP3 for an alarm

So, in the past I've put music files into a folder called Alarms and I can use them for my alarm sound. Yesterday I flashed stock 4.4.3 firmware onto my phone (I had been using CM11 for almost 2 months), and put an mp3 file onto the stock Alarms folder. However, I can't see that file in the choice list. Before this I was able to use custom sound as alarms and I am sure that I had placed the sound file into that alarms folder. Does any one have any suggestions?

I'd also like to know how this is done as well as setting a custom ringtone.

For the ringtone, put music files into the folder called Ringtones, on the sdcard, and then you can select them when you assign a ringtone to someone.

Sound file location for ringtones/notifications

Hello quick question. I've been trying to figure why the notification sound I downloaded off zedge app does not stay set. Im using CM12.1
I have set it using the zedge app, I have set it using media storage or explorer app. On internal storage I created a notification folder which allows it to show up in list of sounds to set it. It may use the sound once or twice but then nothing, no sound.
Does anybody know what else can be done? Thank you

Using file manager..I use root browser..
Try and place the file in system/media/audio/notifications
That would be my best guess anyway
