Open my files. Search for where you stored your ring tones. Then open this file. Press menu key select more, then select copy. Copy which tone you want. Then click paste here. Open media, then open audio, then open notifications and paste the selections there. You can then change you notification tones to the ones you selected by going through the sound and display settings. Hope this helps anyone who wants to change their notification tone to something other than what is set in the default menu of tones! You can also change the text notification tone after doing this. All this can be done without rooting your phone!
THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure that out since I got the phone 4 weeks ago.
It might be easier to just create a folder called Notifications on the root and put them there.

Or you can download "rings extended" from the market which changes your ringtone chooser module, thus enabling you to choose any mp3 song as ringtone/notification etc.
More good info, thank you.

The app ringdroid let's you choose an mp3 file and trim a certain part out of it. You can then save it as a notification tone or a ring tone. Then just go to your options and choose it out of the list it is what i do and it works perfectly

Hello everyone! First I want to thank everyone for their hard work! I wish I could contribute more.
I would like to know if there is ANY WAY possible to have Different ringtone per notification.
Example - one sound for email and another sound for SMS, etc...
When going into Settings it doesn't seem to have this feature.
I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a way to do this.
Thanks,
quad
to change the ringtone for sms click the messaging icon>menu>settings. scroll down until you see notifications settings and then select ringtone. hope this helps!

@babi_gurlx Thanks, been trying to figure out how to choose the ringtone for SMS.
If you want a profile app that will control the volume for separate notification and SMS, I've been using Profile
That's the ringtone for notifications, meaning any notification (SMS, email, etc)
Unless I'm missing something.
I want a different ringtone for SMS than email.
Thanks

I use Astro file manager. I like it above others as many do. Since updating to 2.1 i can no longer set media files i have as ring tones or notifications. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I can long press the file and the option "set as" comes up but then ringtone is not highlighted as a selectable option. And yes ut is the pro version.
Thanks

How in the world do I change the text message tone, or for that matter edit a custom sound set? I changed the notification tone but that didn't change the message tone and I do not see an option for it..
Sorry for the dumb question.
Thank you
Under settings within the messaging app?
Yes that worked, thank you... How can I edit a sound set? I created a custom one but all it did was duplicate the one I created and I don't see how I can edit it.
Someone else will have to help with this, I don't have my device yet.
Try going to settings>personalize and look at the bottom of the screen, you'll see sounds. Click that and you can change and adjust many different notification sounds from there. Took me forever to find that.
Also, if you want your own custom notification sound to show up on the list, create a folder using your favorite folder browser app (like astro) or by mounting to your computer and name the folder Notifications. Put whatever music or sounds you want in there and it'll show up on the system list.

Thank you, it's more involved than my sensation was lol
Is there anyway to flash the Google Calender over the Samsung one?
Also believe I found a bug with silencing notifications. I like having a phone ringtone but no text ones but yet when I choose "silent" as my notification ringtone it still goes off. Any ideas?
Cheers

Calender is just up to you as long as you can have the apk file simply put in in system or even just install it outside of system like a normal app. You can have have a rom without calender, it's not mandatory.
About the notification, if your not using the system messaging you may need to set specific settings in the app itself, if you do check both the app settings and settings>sounds notification sound.
I think you can just set the volume of notifications under sounds to 0 while keeping the ringtone high.
Any idea where I can get the Google calendar apk?
Disregard. Gotta love an easy Google search.

Had anybody had problems setting custom ringtones or notifications. I have dropped the mp3s into the relevant folders just like I've done with other Androids phones. However they never appear in the ringtone or notification list under settings > sounds.
