Astro problem? - XPERIA X10 Themes and Apps

I use Astro file manager. I like it above others as many do. Since updating to 2.1 i can no longer set media files i have as ring tones or notifications. Wondering if anyone else has had this issue. I can long press the file and the option "set as" comes up but then ringtone is not highlighted as a selectable option. And yes ut is the pro version.
Thanks

Use MP3 as notification tones

Open my files. Search for where you stored your ring tones. Then open this file. Press menu key select more, then select copy. Copy which tone you want. Then click paste here. Open media, then open audio, then open notifications and paste the selections there. You can then change you notification tones to the ones you selected by going through the sound and display settings. Hope this helps anyone who wants to change their notification tone to something other than what is set in the default menu of tones! You can also change the text notification tone after doing this. All this can be done without rooting your phone!
THANK YOU! I have been trying to figure that out since I got the phone 4 weeks ago.
It might be easier to just create a folder called Notifications on the root and put them there.

Or you can download "rings extended" from the market which changes your ringtone chooser module, thus enabling you to choose any mp3 song as ringtone/notification etc.
More good info, thank you.

The app ringdroid let's you choose an mp3 file and trim a certain part out of it. You can then save it as a notification tone or a ring tone. Then just go to your options and choose it out of the list it is what i do and it works perfectly

Custom contact ringtones

Is there a good stable rom that matches orthus in stability that will allow me to have custom ringtones for each contact? I've come to the understanding that it is an AOKP issue. I also tried liquid rc9 and no custom contact ringtone either. I miss this feature, mostly when the hubby and annoying aunt calls.
I have it working in CM10. Issue is that system chooser doesn't let you pick anything aisde from defined rings, if you install ES File Explorer and remove the default for "Media Storage" the next time you try to pick a custom ring it will ask you which App you would like to use and you can choose ES and pick from there.
I'm running Paranoid Android 2.99 by gs2usr and custom ring tones are working fine. I tested just how promiseofcake mentioned and also tested with Zedge. As far as the rom is concerned its 100% stable on my device.

What do you mean "remove the default for media storage"? Also could I use root explorer for this process? I bought it so that's what I use.

Hmmm weird, I tried everything (zedge, Ringo pro, other methods) when I used liquid rc9 but nothing would take.
I'm not sure if the sequence is similar on the rom you're running, but once I select a custom ringtone the screen just disappear without confirmation. Once I receive a call from that particular contact it works though. Did you have any of those contacts call you to test???

I also purchased and use Root Explorer. ES File Explorer has some built in ringtone functionality and the Android OS recognizes it as available for setting ringtones.
When I say remove the default for "Media Storage" what I mean is that if a default is not selected for your home launcher for example, it will ask you to choose a launcher each time you press the home button. The same is applicable to setting ringtones. Go to Manage Apps, All, choose "Media Storage", scroll down to the "Launch by Default" heading and click "Clear defaults" if the button is available. Then when you try to set a ringtone via the People app, it will ask you which app you would like to use to do this. The same should work for Zedge or if you have any other apps on there that have the ability to set ringtones.

Gotcha. Thanx for the explanation. I had no luck with any program to get this to work on aokp/orthus, so I am currently on slim bean. It works! Custom contact ringtones again, but I've already had 3 random reboots in just 2 hours on it. Hopefully it just needs to settle over the next few days. Thanx for all your suggestions and help.

Ringtone help

I've given myself a headache over this. I have a custom ringtone I want to use as a notification tone. Easy enough, put it in the folder media/ringtone/notifications. Don't show up. I do a reboot, still no dice. There is no + like in phone call ringtones to add a new one. I'm lost haha. Any help? Seems so simple, just a new ringtone!!

Create a folder in Memory SD card with ES File Manager.
Open File manager go to the SD card, and create new folder named as “media“(without quotes).
And open the media folder, and create another new folder named as “audio“.
Then open the audio folder and again create 2 new folders. One is “notifications” and another one is “ringtones“.
It must be in this path- SDcard> media> audio> notifications
Move the tone that you want to set as notification ringtone to the notifications folder.
You can also use the ringtones folder to set the ringtones.
After that, go to Settings> Sound> Notification Ringtone.
Now you can see the custom tone that you moved earlier to the notifications folder.
If the moved tone is not there, then restart your phone. Then check the ringtones settings. It might work. Has for me.

May have to go ogg. Or check orginal files to see what format they are and try matching. I never had a problem with mp3 or wav. Are you on a sense or aosp? Sense may be conflicting.

I have googled and it told me what you said. No other solutions but I'll keep hunting.
Sense. I hadn't thought about that... I'll wipe caches and if that don't work I'll reflash the Rom on running (venom)
Edit: clearing cache did nothing. Wiping and flashing now...

Just pulled a notification from viperxl. It's a m4a format. I will see if I can convert and get on to work on viper when I get home.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Viper will not let me change it. Even tried renaming it to notification already there. I think it is a size issue. Maybe someone can shed some light on this because I have become very curious but do not have the time at the moment to investigate further.

Don't know if this helps. But I use ring droid. Its a free app from the play store. I downloaded the "droid" sound bite. And now I use it for SMS. I would suggest doing that and then looking in your notifications.
Sent from my Carbon-ize Evita using xda-developers app
I tried it with Zedge and Ring Droid on Viper. As long as you download tone it will show up. But if you put it in folder manually, it will not show. Uninstalled because Viper doesn't like android apps. No problem on Chameleon.

Sound file location for ringtones/notifications

Hello quick question. I've been trying to figure why the notification sound I downloaded off zedge app does not stay set. Im using CM12.1
I have set it using the zedge app, I have set it using media storage or explorer app. On internal storage I created a notification folder which allows it to show up in list of sounds to set it. It may use the sound once or twice but then nothing, no sound.
Does anybody know what else can be done? Thank you

Using file manager..I use root browser..
Try and place the file in system/media/audio/notifications
That would be my best guess anyway

[Q] Defaults?

I have the Verizon S7 and noticed when selecting default apps for browser, pics, video there seems to be no option for "Always" and "Just once". It's a small thing, but always like the popup with options. Any other carrier have this issue?
Don't like to go into Apps>Default app to reset things every time. Anyone know if there is a way to work around this?

Hey, after some digging I found some other Note users had this problem and use the app called "Better Open With" from the play store. Set that app as the default and it'll be a popup with choices again. Samsung tried to make this phone like Apple, we had freedom of choice dammit!
Great find! That app is the answer.

Unfortunately "Better Open With" only partially solves the problem. It has a limited set of intents it listens too an misses many others. For instance if you attempt to send an email from a non-email application "Better Open With" does not show up in the list and you get the default behavior. I reached out to the author of "Better Open With" to see if he wants to open source the application so I can help to extend it. If he does not I'll have to come up with my own solution.
is Better open w/? the only solution for defaults? i've downloaded/installed it, but it never pops up.
How do we " Set that app as the default and it'll be a popup with choices again. "
Thanks

Settings -> Applications -> Default Applications -> Set as default - Locate the application currently set as the default for whatever you are trying to open and choose the "Clear Defaults" button. Now when you attempt to open the file you'll see the chooser again and can select Better Open With.
Just got an ota software update for my international g930f. Browsed around phone settings and found that the app default options r now there. I cleared all app defaults and now when I click for an external link, I get the just once or always option now.
