N5 rooting process is the same regardless of whether the device is on 4.4 or 4.4.1 or 4.4.2
Check out the first post in these threads - both link to the drivers, and tell you exactly how to proceed.

Assuming you are on a windows based computer (not Mac).
Try a different USB port. And read the first post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2514396

If your on linux you need to run fastboot as root or run with sudo.
No need for useing any type of tool kit for rooting a nexus device.
1. Get drivers working correctly for fastboot.
2. sudo fastboot oem unlock or fastboot oem unlock
3. sudo fastboot flash recovery recovery_image.img or fastboot flash recovery recovery_image.img
4. boot phone in to android
5. copy superSU.zip to internal storage
6. adb reboot recovery
7. flash superSU.zip
8. reboot phone
9. enjoy root access.

The only drivers I got to work were the "universal drivers" found in the all in one toolkit. It's a driver issue.

I wouldn't know. I use Linux and when I install the android toolkit from the repos it installs all the USB codes for all android phones. I never have an issue with ADB / Fastboot on any phone I hook to my laptop.

That's understandable, if the OP is on Windows this is surely the issue. I had the same problem it was annoying.

Problem with the ROM"Official OTA JB 4.1.1 for GSM Nexus S (CWM Flashable) + Extras"
Hello, this is the first topic i write on XDA. I have a huge problem with the ROM called "Official OTA JB 4.1.1 for GSM Nexus S (CWM Flashable) + Extras" uploaded by kibmcz
I have made a mistake, i forgot to install the file for root and now i do not have root, i can not connect my nexus s with the computer and i can not get on my Clockworkmod recovery to change ROM. I don't know what to do. Please help me to change this ROM!
You should still be able to boot into the bootloader (vol up + pwr). You can then flash CWM again via fastboot.

How can i flash CWM via fastboot? Can you give me directions please?

You'll learn a lot more by reading up on it. It's worth your time. Seeing as you've unlocked your bootloader, this should be a cakewalk for you.

Thanks a lot my friend, i hope that i won't have any problem to connect my nexus s with the PC because now i have due to this ROM..
Its not the roms fault. The point of a stock unmodified ROM is simple. To be a stock ROM unmodified ROM

Bootloader unlock problem!

Hey guys i have a problem with the bootloader of my chacha. I just bought this phone because my legendary hd2 broke. I've tried serveral times to unlock my bootloader of my chacha via the htcdev method but without any luck. Everytime I try the ruu it gives me the 170 error code which indicated my phone isn't connected to my computer.
I tried changing usb ports without luck and installing htc sync, but the device doesn't get recognized by eather the ruu or htc sync. So does anybody know a solution so I can root my phone?
BUMPY
Bump!
Try skipping RUU Update step, maybe you don't need a hboot update. It worked for me and others as well.

I am not saying to skip unlocking process, just the step about RUU Update and then continue unlocking.
Just hit 'proceed to step 1' and folow instructions.

You cannot do anything until you unlock the bootloader or s-off your device.
Apparently the problem is within HTC USB drivers.
If you have successfully installed HTC Sync and/or HTC USB drivers on your workstation, then enable USB debugging option on your phone and try to connect the USB cable to USB ports on your motherboard (at the back of computer case).
If this is not working, then probably the best option is to use somebody's else computer with Windows XP 32bit to unlock your device.
Or try a hardware reset on your PC. This will let your PC recognize the phone as a new device. Or try to fix drivers when you plug it in. This can be done from the config screen (Not sure what's the official name for in english windows... Only worked with dutch versions...

This is a brief tut on windows:
Download adlx' small fastboot tools: link
Download adlx' recovery (best one is 5.0.2.8) - couldn't find link, search it in a development section.
Download superuser zip: link - it is in the attachments - su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip.
Extract fastboot and recovery. Put recovery.img in the folder where your fastboot tools are. Navigate the command prompt to the fastboot folder. Connect your phone in fastboot mode and type this command:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
This will install recovery.
Copy su zip on your sd card.
Then just flash superuser zip through recovery and you will have a rooted phone.
I rooted my ChaCha
Hi Guys
I rooted my ChaCha by using unlock from HTC and installing CWM and superuser. I installed Link2SD too. What I assume now it is giving me a all the space I have on sd card for installing the apps???
Nope... if you search the forum, there are plenty of guides that explain how to set up link2sd

Currently any chance to root 4.4.2?

Sorry if this is the wrong section. Please move if required.
I recieved my phone from the 9th. december batch, with 4.4.2. pre installed. I tried the root toolkit and the google sdk tool to root the device. I could unlock the phone, but thats it.
Unlock bootloader (which will wipe the phone). Then flash or fastboot into custom recovery, and flash the latest SuperSU (1.80 at the time of this post) zip file. There, now you are rooted.

First thing I did. SSU says there is no file and there is no way to install it. Please read the forum.
Don't use toolkits. Follow one of the guides like the one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507905
I'm assuming you unlocked the phone with ADB/fastboot so you should be able to push and install custom recovery and flash SuperSU. You can't just download the SuperSU market app and expect it to install. You must flash it from recovery. After that it can be updated from the market but not installed from the market.
worked

Check your drivers then. If the drivers are installed correctly and you have USB debugging on in the developer settings you will have access through adb.

Could be your drivers (but since you unlocked you should have the right drivers). Look up one of the driver troubleshooting threads. Make sure you don't see Android Device with a yellow (!) in your device manager. If you do, your drivers are missing. If you connect it and don't see anything at all in device manager see if you can uninstall whatever drivers you had and install the universal driver. There's lots of people who have had driver issues so search the forum.

[Q] Driver Issue

Hi,
I had to connect my Nexus to my PC a few months ago because I wanted to root it. (Everything went well)
Now, I installed the 4.4.4 update on my phone and it lost its root access. I need to root it again (with a toolkit or not) but my PC can't install the driver. I tried on 2 PC (W8.1 and W7) and with 3 different cables. I downloaded the Google Driver from the google site, I can't connect my phone to any PC anymore ...
Can someone help me ?
Thanks in advance!
You'll need to connect in the bootloader anyway. Boot into the. Bootloader and see what shows up then. Then the 15 second drivers via the link in my signature and fastboot flash a recovery.
Dont use a toolkit

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
On the bootloader, the PC dectects the device: "Android Bootloader Interface"
But, if I follow this tutorial for example: www . ibtimes. co . uk /how-root-nexus-5-android-4-4-4-ktu84p-install-cwm-recovery-1453807
SuperSU can't get the rights.
(I used adb-setup but nothing changed)
Thanks.
I'm not going to comment on other guides not on XDA. Our guides are verifyable.
Did you fastboot flash a recovery yet?
These are the steps
Fastboot flash a custom recovery
Flash from there, a supersu zip.
The app alone is not enough
All guides are in my signature

I think my opinion is obvious. You can root directly from philz by the way. Then just install supersu app

How to root T-mobile pixi 7?

Tested vroot and framaroot but both are not working. This is a cheap tablet provided by Tmobile just these recent weeks. I do not think the root method is the same as the other pixi 7 sold in other places since they have different processors, S410 for Tmo version. Any one knows?

May i know that your device have a download mode or not

You can try flashing a custom recovery amd then glaahimg root update.zip.
