No root access, what to do?

Hi guys, I've tried rooting my nexus 5 with This Guide...
I did everything in the steps, everything worked and eventually the nexus rebooted. But there were apps that said i had no root acces, superSU is also not installed... When i go into fastbood mode it says "secure boot enabled" and lock state unlocked...
what should i do to have root access.

well you shouldnt use a toolkit for starters
you should follow this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2507905 except you need to use the terminal on your mac and use ./fastboot instead of just fastboot.

Yes. If your bootloader is already unlocked you can start with step 2.

how to boot into recovery with moto G?

I have managed to root, unlock booloader but it cant find the way to boot to cwm 6... i try from fastboot but doesnt work.

I would like to know this too. I can't seem to boot into recovery even though I know I flashed TWRP correctly with a recovery.img.

Once rooted, you may want to use the "Quick boot" application. It allows you to reboot to bootloader and recovery easily.

Also, a side note, if you update to Android 4.4, you have to downgrade the bootloader to 4.3s or recovery will not flash

oh, this is the problem... im in 4.4, how to downgrande bootloader? i dont find any guide.

I hope you were able to figure it out. There was a thread on here for it and I would post a link if I had time. It was super easy. You just needed to do an adb push recovery.img. There was a download someone posted for people needing it.

You don't have to downgrade to 4.3 bootloader any more just flash cwm 6.0.4.6 v3 from the link below

best way is to enable debugging mode and then in the terminal with adb
adb reboot recovery
or you press the volume down and power button and select the recovery

[Q] Root nexus 5 help!

OK in am new to this if I root my phone with one root brand or what ever it's called can I unroot with the same kind or something different

Google search is your friend.
Google " fastboot "&" adb " along with the word and # " Nexus 5 ".
If you read and understand than it is harder to brick your device

I understand root sorry I didn't make that clear. However I have three question. #1 Do I root before I get a recovery?#2 Do need a computer to root?

You only posed two..
1. No. You need to unlock the bootloader first, from there you can install a custom recovery.
2. Highly recommended. There are tools nowadays that simplifies the process, but nothing works as best as doing it manually. You'll get to learn more, understand how your phone works, and it's much easier overall for the people at this forum to help you if you encounter a problem, if you understand the terms we use and how things are done.

Did you unlock using adb?
Then you should be on your way to rooting. Remember to flash a custom recovery first, that's very important.

You can't unlock the bootloader using adb. It needs to be unlocked when the phone is in fastboot mode using a fastboot command.

Where I am confused is when I download the recovery in this case twrp 2.7.1.1 and the superSU and put them in the android platform folder, do I then turn my phone off and fastboot mode and unzip the superSU in the platform folder?

I didn't tell him to unlock using adb did I? Merely pointing out to do it manually, he must have had to download adb to his computer, given that he's not even sure how he unlocked his bootloader.

Will you please read the thread named "[GUIDE] Nexus 5 - How to Unlock Bootloader, Install Custom Recovery and Root" which is linked in my signature. Read it thoroughly and then post questions. Please get your basics cleared first.
Put the twrp img file in platform tools folder and then open a cmd window from there to run fastboot commands. Yes, you need to go into fastboot mode to run fastboot commands.

Just for the sake of accuracy and to be pedantic, fastboot and adb are completely different. fastboot.exe and adb.exe do completely different things. All thats needed unlock the bootloader is fastboot.exe and USB drivers. This can all be done without downloading adb.exe

Turn your phone off, boot into bootloader, then fastboot the recovery image.
Once done, reboot into your new custom recovery, use adb to push the superSU zip to your phone (do not unzip it, leave it as it is), use your custom recovery to locate to the zip, then install it.

Anyone would interpret this as if your accepting that the bootloader is unlocked with adb. Which isn't correct. In any case, if that's not what you meant, my bad!

I am doing what you are telling me in your thread. when I open the command window and input the first code it say "the system cannot find the path specified" that the problem / what has been done fore this to say that?

You get that error because the twrp file which you're trying to flash isn't in the platform tools folder.
Here are some things you need to check:
1. Have you navigated correctly to the twrp file path in fastboot?
2. Is the twrp file named correctly? if it's recovery.img then the command would be fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
3. Make sure you have file extensions seen in windows explorer so that you can confirm the file extension.

Have you downloaded the TWRP from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=11051#downloads
If you did, try the file named: twrp-osprey-2.8.7-test1.img because the R2 and R3 versions didn't work for me, only the test1 version.
Also, remember to use this command in adb after unlocking the bootloader:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-osprey-2.8.7-test1.img
Try this, I believe it will work for you.

ive using the command you posted so should i go to recovery mode and launch it using that i want to make sure in case thats what i was doing wrong

Hi guys, i was looking to make twrp for this device but couldn't do it because lack of knowledge. so i searched and found about CF-Auto-Root.
fortunately i was able to generate one for mia1. now we can root this device without any recovery.
Requirements -
1. unlocked boot loader. :cyclops:
2. this Zip
3.adb debugging should be enabled
How to -
1. put your phone in fastboot mode by volume down + power key.
2. connect to pc, ( make sure adb debugging is enabled)
2. extract above zip anywhere in your desktop and run root.bat file.
wait for some time, when it boots up you should have root access . although you won't see any su app. tried with solid explorer and was able to edit build.prop. without any issues. enjoy

so with this we get root access, a question about unlocked bootloader, does A1 already unlocked bootloader since begining or we have to request it from Xiaomi or Google to get that?
hope with this we can use substratum on stock Android

No, it doesn't come unlocked, but you can unlock by either ---
1. requesting xiaomi for unlock code.
or
2. By using command " fastboot oem unlock" in fastboot mode.
i used 2nd method to unlock, it's just like unlocking a nexus phone.

Nothing to worry about... Xiaomi doesn't wipe data while unlocking...
Just extract the zip... Get the boot.img and flash it using fastboot...
If you are too lazy then run root.bat

I should have read this sooner. I run root.bat twice.. it did not work.. my partner had to take the laptop to school since it's needed for teaching.. now i'm left with nothing.. unrooted, frustrated, aggreviated.. i should have flashed it manually.. i'm wanna cry. ????

@ravinder0003 Thanks. it working using root.bat. flashboot boot boot.img didn't seem to work for me. Any ideas? Did you get Magisk working?

It should work. You must have missed something. Did you have the right driver installed?

fastboot flash boot failed and root.bat suceeded but my phone does not get rooted checked by root checker.

I know I have to right driver installed.. I have been flashing with fastboot since Redmi Note 3 Pro.. root.bat runs properly.. I did it twice but for some reason, I'm not getting root..

Same here.. though I haven't tried manually flashing boot.img..
