SD Card not reading on Phone or on PC. - General Questions and Answers

Hey Guys,
I recently was using my phone, it accidently slipped out of my hand and fell on the floor. My phone works fine but the problem is that the SD Card is not reading, when it reads it my phone gets locked/freezed, I cannot unlock the lock screen, or do anything else. I also cannot read it via my USB Card Reader. I don't know what is wrong. Can someone please help me?
Thanks,
Izzy

Can you unlock the lock screen without the card in the device? Have you tried a different card?
Do you have important data on the card? You may need to enlist someone who can use an SD card recovery program to try to make an image of the card for analysis and recovery.

Hello,
Thanks for replying, I have no important data except for some pictures that I have stored (not all of them) on Facebook. I also had music on there, but it's okay, i'll get them again. It's a 8GB Card though, but it came with the phone. Oh well, i'll try something myself, no big deal
Thanks,
Izzy

Sorry I couldn't be more help. You won't find much in the way of SD card diagnostic tools on Android, it would probably be easiest to boot into Linux and use some of the tools there, or else find one for Windows (in my experience most are paid apps).

SD Card CID (w/o phone)?

I am in a bad situation with my rooted, now semi-bricked G1 =[
I had cyanogenmod and RA recov. I installed a new theme directly from the CM updater app; then on reboot, my phone would not boot into the OS (stuck on logo, before loading screen). So I tried to overwrite the phone with cyan again. It wouldn't work so then I was left to flash the phone and start over. Upon flashing, I got that b#$6h of an error. Then the "RUUNBH".
Now upon turning on my phone (In any way) it comes to the colured screen. When I try to flash a nbh, I get the "not allow" because my SD card needs to be a gold card.
The only method now is to gold card my SD. Which I cannot figure out anymore because all the methods I would need a WinMo phone or an working Android phone, neither I have access to.
In short, does anyone know how I can get a SD card's CID without a phone. I DO have a laptop with a sd card reader and CAN get access to a external USB sd card reader.
Any help?

Buy a cheap winmo phone? Something that has whats required. There has to be an old one that can do it for like 20 - 30 dollars. I don't think it's possible otherwise.
I think it may be possible to get the CID with a sdcard slot (not USB), usually within a laptop. Recently, I found this: jo0ls-dotnet-stuff.blogspot.com/search/label/SD%20Card%20CID
I used his source and threw in a couple lines to debug why it wasn't working, but it seems the laptop I own doesn't have a support SD card slot, so I will have to go see someone who has a internal SD slot on their laptop.
A winmo phone for $30?... By any chance of pointing me in the direction of such item(s)? (I am Australian)

Thanks for your suggestion. But it is possible that you would still need to get her a CID. I am wondering if it is possible to overwrite the whole SD card through the tool that is used to edit your SD card and into a 'goldcard'.
I PMed the person who was recommended in that thread, fingers crossed.
SD card reader that can read SD/MMC 32 bit CID
Hi There
I think this might be useful to anyone that sits with the problem of reading the 32 bit serial number/CID of a SD/MMC card.
I have managed to get firmware written for the Addonics eSata/USB multi-card reader model AEPDDESU with a small application that will read and display the CID number.
There is no other way to read the CID number through USB on PC other than having the the chip set inside the reader relay the information back to the host when it receives an application defined command, like for instance DeviceIoControl.
If anyone is interested drop me a mail and i will gladly mail u the firmware + utillity .One will need to buy this drive though.

Dear friend.
I am looking for solution to read Serial No from SD card. I made special software which is runing on every pc on out company an check all inserted USB memory keys. Then compare serial no with database and if not registered is used we get warnings on IT section that not registered usb key was used.
Unfortunatelly i have problem with sd cards because i always get serial number of card reader and not serial no od SD card.
Is there some way to get serial no from SD card via Card reader? Can you send me the model of card reader which is possible to read this SN + Software?
Is there some dll or component for reading usable for .net visual basic?
Thank you for informations.

SD card not reading everything

Hey all. So, When I am on my phone, I see everything on my SD card. Unfortunately, when I plug my phone into my computer, I only see one folder. Does anyone have any idea or remedy for this situation? Much appreciated for the help.
Update : Apparently it doesn't always read the phone either. Is this an issue on my computer? Or the device?

[Q] pc says sd card needs reformatting, but installed apps still visible and useful

i successfully rooted my huawei g510-200 by following instruction here in xda and was proud considering my limited knowledge with computers but recently,as the high spirit was still in me, i made a mistake of backing up my apps using tb and saving them into the internal storage.. i decided to cut and paste the files in sd card and there the problem started.. first, when i tried to use my camera, a notification appeared saying sd card cannot be read and the image will be saved in the internal storage..second, when i took out my sd card and try to read it in my pc, pc said reformatting is needed and the scary part, when i put back my sd card into my phone, the screen flickered and all apps notify that they are unable to load. i restarted my phone and everything was back to normal but still, sd card is unreadable. please help. what should i do to revive my sd card? thanks in advance.

[Q] Problems with my SD Card

Recently (a couple of days ago to be exact), I tried partitioning my SD card... It worked fine but when I formatted, the system recommended that I close all running apps. I did during partition but during format I did not (stupid yes) and this damaged my SD card. So this is the problem: The phone can still read it (it shows my SD storage capacity at Settings and I was able to successfully transfer some apps to it) but the pc cannot. Whenever I connect it to pc, it doesn't do anything like show the number of things that you can do with the mass storage device; I can't even see what drive it is. I need help. Can I still salvage the SD card? I've tried formatting the card via the android device twice.
I have a back-up too, but I would like to try saving the SD card. Thank you!
I did not see any similar problems but if this question has already been submitted, I am very sorry.

It worked for the SD card, but my pc won't detect it as a mass storage device (which it always does before). I might have overlooked some tips at the thread you gave, so I'll look again tomorrow.

micro sdhc bricked?? pls help

hey guys... i'm having some problems with my buddies' sandisk 32 gb ultra micro sdhc. I think it might be bricked. idk how he did it but he was telling me that there was nothing on it and i checked and he was right.. he has a galaxy tab 4 and never unmounts his card before he pulls it out. wonder if that wasn't some of the cause. it said sd card was broken or damaged or something like that and it offered an option to format. so we hit format but now it seems like it is completerly gone. i was gonna reload it for him but figured out something more was wrong as the computer would do absolutely nothing when i put it in. never shows up under devices with removable storage or nothin. i can put it in my galaxy player and it says preparing sd card and then it does nothing... never mounts and acts like it ain't there. so just to be sure it wasn't the computer, i put my own sd card into the computer and that worked fine!! sooo i did some research and it looked like a program called sdformatter might be able to help me. but i tried that and unfortunately that didn't recognize it either. i've looked everywhere but i can't seem to find a solution that works. idk what to do anymore... help is really appreciated!!:good:
thanks in advance
