hey guys... i'm having some problems with my buddies' sandisk 32 gb ultra micro sdhc. I think it might be bricked. idk how he did it but he was telling me that there was nothing on it and i checked and he was right.. he has a galaxy tab 4 and never unmounts his card before he pulls it out. wonder if that wasn't some of the cause. it said sd card was broken or damaged or something like that and it offered an option to format. so we hit format but now it seems like it is completerly gone. i was gonna reload it for him but figured out something more was wrong as the computer would do absolutely nothing when i put it in. never shows up under devices with removable storage or nothin. i can put it in my galaxy player and it says preparing sd card and then it does nothing... never mounts and acts like it ain't there. so just to be sure it wasn't the computer, i put my own sd card into the computer and that worked fine!! sooo i did some research and it looked like a program called sdformatter might be able to help me. but i tried that and unfortunately that didn't recognize it either. i've looked everywhere but i can't seem to find a solution that works. idk what to do anymore... help is really appreciated!!:good:
thanks in advance

remove the card from the phone first. reboot. put the card back in. go and delete all the partitions on your card using your partition program. Recreate the FAT32 and EXT2 partitions.
sd card wont mount/g1 wont....
Maybe the g1 has a headache!
Keep an eye on the sdcard by going to menu.settings.sdcard... that should tell you the status. Re-boot usually gets rid of all my problems if my phone does not read my card for watever reason.

Its been a while since I fooled around with the sdcard and usb... but... I do remember installing some drivers for something or another (let me see what it was and if it is related some how... ) ill get back to you....
ok.thanx.do you mean the adb interface drivers??because i have that installed
try turning on USB debugging
yea, I'm having the same problem. The phone wont read the fat32 partition but it'll read the ext2. Trying to fix it tonight though.
If you are using ubuntu partition editor that will happen.. happened to me a good amount of times. Try formating it on a windows machine as a Fat32 and replug it on linux and it should work. That's what worked for me... took a couple of attempts... good luck!
hope you had backup your sd card
well i got my card working again.i think something went wrong when i partioned it and maybe it had something to do with the theme.i put the dreaimg.nbh and the update folder and luckily the phone read it.so it put me back to jf 1.30 rc30.so then i went back and updated.but as soon as the theme got erased everything went back to normal
Try this if you have windows, it worked for me, finally.
Use disk management:
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management
In Computer Management, click "Disk Management" on the left which is under "Storage." In the lower portion on the right, you should see a list of all the volumes. Right-click on the one you want to format and click "Format"
If it is a removeable drive you want to format, use "Removable Storage" under "Storage" instead of "Disk Management."

Thanks to: http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/44545/
Yeah, even paragon partition manager was reading it wrong, but windows disk management was able to format it back to fat32 without any problem.

I installed this driver today to do the custom splash screen. And now, my computer does not recognize the phone as a USB storage device.
When I plug in the phone, I get the "mount/don't mount" option. I chose mount. When I go into My Computer, the phones MicroSD card isn't there?
Any ideas?
I just uninstalled the driver and it works fine again.

Look for a tool called MiniTool Partition Wizard. It's free, with it you have more formatting options and can check the health of the card.
CWM probably formats to a file system that your laptop can't read. Does the laptop run Windows? Try plugging it into a Linux system.
yes it's windows 7, but i've got linux on a virtual machine

Hmm. I was hoping that wasn't the case, but in the minitool, there is a repair function.
I was playing around with ICS on a USB stick and fried it last week, and got the same...red dots everywhere, "your USB has screwed the pooch"...but I ran some repair job with minitool, and got it healthy again.
Try it a bit more, before you drop loot on a new card.
Good luck!
I tried that but no luck i'll keep messing with it, I mean the damn thing cost me 75.00 $ so i would very much like to get it work, just makes me wonder why did clockwork mess up my SD card ? I got it to mount only 1 time & it said that there was only 3.54gb & then it wouldn't read it ever again.

Tried repartitioning?
Worst case, scenario...buy one from Best Buy, repack this one in the packing and say, "Uh, I dunno what happened. It just doesn't work. Now gimme my money back, I dunno if I can trust a brand that sells faulty equipment that fails on first use.".
EDIT: Never claimed this strategy was moral or legal, but for any stone-casters, religious zealots, overly pious finger-pointers, preists, rabbis, Mr. Jesus Christ himself, or any others who generally haven't ever committed sin or been exposed to it...

Yea cuz that's totally not immoral and illegal.
If you can somehow get your phone to recognize it then reformat it via the phone's menu not CWM. CWM isn't really optimized for our device so there may be things that don't work properly. And the fact that it read 3.54GB is interesting because I once had a 4GB micro sdcard that got corrupted and only showed as a 2GB micro sdcard. All I had to do was format it using windows built-in format tool though and it fixed it. What are you trying to format it as anyways? Fat32?

Whew! Thanks!!
I edited my post.
I've tried it all & nothing will format it, My laptop says the drive is use by another program but it's not, & i tell i to format anyway & it says windows was unable to format the drive. I'm gonna try the minitool again & see what happens.
EDIT: I've been messing around with the minitool & when i put the SDHC card in my laptop it says unallocted so i do that & it says unformatted, then i format it & it always says BAD DISK, but if i pull it out of my PC & stick it back in it's the same process over again ? Why wouldn't it just say it's a bad disk again instesd of giving me false hope LOL
EDIT: I've been givin a new program to try i will post the results.Well here is the link to another SD card formatting program http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/sd/download/index.html maybe it will help someone else.
Hey guys this is my last place to turn before I just go buy a new one but I want to see if anyone at all can help me.
I have a Sandisk 32 GB Class 4 Micro Sd. I bought it off a guy on the xda marketplace and it was in the factory packaging and took me a half hour to get out so I doubt it was fake unless people forge the packaging.
Well the other day I went to copy a file onto the card by mounting it to the computer. It copied just fine but when I unmounted the card and went onto the phone the file was no where to be found. This was off to me so I mounted the card again and it opened fine but there was no file. I then copied it again and it said it worked like it normally does. i unmounted then mounted right away and guess what the file didn't exist.
This is where it gets interesting.
I then mount the card again and select everything and delete it all. It says it works fine. I then disconnect the card then mount it again and guess what all the files are back. Like nothing happened. I then proceed to format in windows by right clicking and hitting format. It didnt do anything. I then go into recovery on the phone and try and format it. Nothing happens. I then connect the card directly to the computer with a micro to sd card adapter that is made by sandisk. It mounts to the computer fine. I then go into Easeus Partition Manager and click format. It finishes and comes up with an error saying There are some error occurred while writing partition chains on disk.
If anyone has any idea please help.
UPDATE: I have contacted Sandisk and they are going to send me a brand new card.

Is the card detected by the mobile?
If yes, try to format it in the mobile itself with the format option.
Also check how much space it shows , before & after formatting.
Try low level format

Could be a duff card but sometimes I have had this if the card has not been fully un mounted try waiting a couple more minutes before removing the card to give the system time to fully un mount it
Or it will not be written to.

Hello all and everyone who may be able to help me out! I recently got a new phone (galaxy nexus) and decided to root and s-off my evo 3d. After another sad fail at s-off, my sd card was acting up. When its in a phone, it will say the card is blank or it is using an unsupported file system. Upon formatting option nothing happens. When i insert the sdcard into an adapter and put it into my computer, i can navigate to my computer and when i try to get into the drive, "my computer" crashes and i have to remove the card to get back to the start screen. I can use the drive for other things but it just wont read this card and makes the computer freeze. ive tried programs and whenever i try to select the drive, again the program im using crashes. Other cards work fine so it seems the card itself is the problem. worked fine before. Can anyone help me out here?

Is your phone able to read/detect your card?
If yes then:
Go to Phone Settings> Storage Settings> Unmount SD card> Erase SD card.
Report if that works.
If it's dead, most reputable manufacturers offer a warranty on their cards. Go to their website & look up the procedure for getting an RMA. That's much cheaper than buying a new card.

I had a similar problem figuring out that moving Apps to external sd and then removing this sdcard CAN DESTROY the sdcard controller - better unmount card then remove it or switch phone off and remove it !
Even more worst - it's still working sometimes on any PC with adapter - if you have warranty on that sdcard i would replace it in the store bought !

Maybe i had luck - but since the failure i have been very carefully !
Nowadays sdcards should beeing built that writing more than 100000 times should be possible - so such an error should also not occur
but what the sdcards are very sensitive is heat - temperatures above 55 ° C (131 F) is almost a no go! (or increasing failure rate drastically !)

No when this failure appears - formatting is not possible anymore - the "controller" inside the sdcard is defect !

Can you unlock the lock screen without the card in the device? Have you tried a different card?
Do you have important data on the card? You may need to enlist someone who can use an SD card recovery program to try to make an image of the card for analysis and recovery.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. You won't find much in the way of SD card diagnostic tools on Android, it would probably be easiest to boot into Linux and use some of the tools there, or else find one for Windows (in my experience most are paid apps).
