Solution:
Deleted Google account from my phone and re-added it. Hangouts seem to work now
Bit of a weird issue, wondering if anyone has some thoughts. I don't receive notifications from a Hangout, SMS notifications work fine from the Hangouts app though. I've checked the usual sources; I'm not reading the notifications on another machine, and I have notifications enabled in the settings. I also don't seem to be syncing properly, as in the Hangout messages I receive take a long time to show up even when I have a strong network connection. Any thoughts on what this might be?
I'm on the CM 11 M1 snapshot.
EDIT
So looking around it seems the Google account associated with the Hangouts is reporting a sync error however when I go to see what the error is no Google component has an error. How would I go about logging the account syncing, the log might have the info there

Does this happen over wifi as well as 3G/4G?

Yup, network type does not matter.

I had this exact same problems for the past couple days:
- not being able to receive Hangout messages
- SMS worked fine from Hangout app
- sending Hangout messages were ok
- sync errors in APP DATA
I tried everything from logging on/off from other devices, and logging on/off from the Nex5 and rebooting several times. None of this worked. Last night, I completely deleted my google account on the Nex5 and relogged in. That did the trick. But I'm still experiencing sync error under APP DATA.

XDA user Koush has found a solution to using google voice with any messaging app. Here are the steps to take
Beta 2: Google Voice through any messaging app
0) Google Voice must be installed with notifications enabled (for now).
1) Install a recent +CyanogenMod nightly. July 1st or later. You need the SMS middleware patches I put in for PushSMS. (see Gerrit)
2) Push this apk to /system/app: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/babel-2-signed.apk adb install will not work. The app requires system/signature permissions.
4) Start Babel, choose your Google Voice account. Authorize it.
Fixed since original release:
* Registers with AccessibilityService automatically.
* SMS sent via GV website, etc now sync to the stock messaging store.
* If you're running a +CyanogenMod build from last night, the duplicate GV notifications will be cleared.

What are the chances of getting this to work without using a CM ROM? I use a TW-based ROM on my Galaxy Note 2, and since I am on Sprint, I have completed the Google Voice integration. I sometimes reply to texts using the web interface from my PC, and I'd love to be able to sync my conversations so they appear on my phone as well. I would also love to be able to use Textra or a similar messaging app instead of the boring official Google Voice app. However, since GV doesn't support MMS, could it work so that MMS is sent using the carrier messaging infrastructure?

Voice+ Delayed & Multiple same messages
Anyone having Voice+ delay your messages? Sometimes text messages will come through right away, but most of the time it will take several hours or a reboot to get the messages to retrieve. When it does retrieve them, my phone blows up with messages because I get each message about 4 times. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this. It's been hard to find any info since I've been unable to find anyone talking about issues with it.

This does happen to me as well. I haven't found any way to reproduce the issue on demand; it seems completely random whether I receive the messages right away or if there's a delay.
Me too. Today I tried emptying my Google Voice inbox, clearing data for the Google Voice, Voice +, Messaging apps.
Still have problems having messages delivered properly.
I am on the 10/9 nightly 10.2 build.

It started doing this for me as well. I've noticed that I receive messages only if I send one out, and also everything I receive is double. I do get it only once on Google Voice.. If I'm looking at my phone when I receive a text, I see the Google Voice notification, and it never makes it over to the SMS app, until I send an SMS out, then I see the messages.
Same here. Also, sometimes txts will not send from stock (stuck at "sending"), but messages sent from GV app go out instantly.
Sent from my XT875 using xda app-developers app
I'm running Vanir and it appears to be working fine. The only problem is SMS received appears to be coming from a random phone # and not the number it was sent to me from. Anyone else?

Me too. Sucks very hard. Anyone have a fix or reference to a tracking thread??
Stock Nexus 5 on T-Mobile.
Have somehow gotten into a situation where my SMS and MMS messages in Hangouts disappear from view (in Hangouts) if I log out of Google+/Hangouts. Log in - they appear - log out, they disappear.
Have even tried clearing all MMS and SMS, logging out of Google+/Hangouts, and then restoring the SMS/MMS messages. Nothing. No messages seen (in Hangouts). And then I log back in to Google+/Hangouts, and wham! they reappear.
Somehow, Hangouts has decided that all of my MMS/SMS messages belong in my Google+/Hangouts profile, and if I'm not in that profile, I don't need to see my SMS/MMS (in Hangouts).
[Third-party SMS/MMS apps remain OK, however the messages are messed up - wrong order, SMS show with a blank title line, etc]
What is going on, and how can I fix this?
You probably just have to close it and re-open it (if it's still set as the default SMS app), but the bigger question is...
Why do you keep logging out and back in to Google+/Hangouts?

It is kind of a two part app. a standalone sms app and a sms/hangouts app at the same time. When you are logged into hangouts you are smsing in that part of the app. If you sign out you are not longer in the combined app. You are now in the stand alone version. If you don't use hangouts stay signed out. If you do use hangouts stay signed in. It is kind of "it is what it is" thing. It may change later but for now with this first release for integration that is how it acts.

hangouts is designed to stay logged in... but best way to fix it would be get a MSG app and use that for texts and then log in to hangouts when you want to use it.. Or stay logged into hangouts all the time

Would have understood if new messages I sent from Hangouts had ended up in the 'combined' app. But surprised that my old SMS messages from last week, month and year get hijacked into 'combined app' as soon as I activate SMS functionality within Hangouts, and won't show unless I'm logged in.
So when running Skype on my galaxy s6 (t-mobile variant but it's an app so I thought it might be all variants with this issue).
It will stay logged in and I will keep receiving messages for a short time. Even when I keep running skype in the background I will not receive notifications after a while like more than 30+ mins.
So, I have to launch the app or go through my recents and it acts as it's signing in and then I get my new messages.
It even says before you log out for the first time that you can stay logged on and keep receiving notifications without consuming the battery (which I think is bull, too).
Anyone else have this issue? Is it the app of the phone? Or the provider? This happens on data or wifi.
Also have same problem, was solved with "clear app data" and login with own account again

I'll try it out, thanks. Did you log in with your microsoft account or skype account, btw?
I believe since you mentioned you are not getting notifications after a while it is related to the same bug as email notifications.

A few bits of information to start.
- I have been on the same ROM and same settings for over a year (including APN)
- I use ChompSMS, but have uninstalled it as part of testing
- I have tested both on and off of WiFI
- I am on StraightTalk
- I used a different APN than what they have on their site, and when this started, I updated to the one they list there now, but the problem remained the same on both options.
Now, my problem, for the past two days, any MMS (I believe based on past history that these are group conversations, not individual MMS messages), are not downloading. Using the built in Messanger application I get an error that it cannot download the message. With ChompSMS, installed, I get the message that it cannot download MMS and to check my APN settings. I tested sending myself an image MMS, and that both sent and got received. Other than that test, I've got nothing the past two days other than that error from Chomp (or nothing from the built in) at the rate of 4-5 times every 30 minutes (the approx rate I'd normally get a message in a group text).
What I have left to try:
- I'm using SMS Backup & Restore to backup my SMS/MMS and then I'm going to wipe out the database and restore my messages
However, anyone have any other ideas what might be wrong or what I can do to fix this?

Do you happen to use PushBullet? If so, uncheck "SMS sync" and reboot. That always causes issues for me.

Unfortunately no. I don't have anything that could have caused this. Since Saturday, I've only updated "Reddit is fun golden platinum", "dolphin browser", and "power toggles" (installed, but never run).
The above was on Sunday
The problem began on Tuesday afternoon.
Prior to that, it was working.

Apparantly I'm not the only straight talk user that has this issue.

I'm assuming it is something with Marshmallow and Cricket causing the issue. My Nexus 5 on Cricket won't receive MMS if WiFi is on. If I leave WiFi off, I can receive and send MMS fine. My wife has a Moto X on Lollipop on Cricket and can receive MMS fine with WiFi on.
My situation was very similar to yours in that MMS was working fine for weeks after I upgraded to 6.0. It then just stopped randomly. I still have not found a work around other than disabling WiFi.

That's not the same issue.
This is an issue affecting all (most) of straight talk, and has nothing to do with the phone or the setting.
Wifi on/off doesn't have an effect.
So, it's not a phone issue, just a Straight Talk one.

This is my exact life, please let me know if you figure it out better. I do think Pushbullet was screwing me up too, even just having it installed without SMS sync.
MMS always downloaded fine with Pushbullet installed, but since upgrading to Marshmallow, I haven't been able to download a single MMS on my N5. I'm on T-Mobile, not Straight Talk.
Are you sure it's not related to the more-widespread issue of MMS not working with WiFi on?
EDIT: See here.
Actually having this problem on mine as well now (AT&T). Had auto updates off. Nothing changed to my knowledge. Just not downloading some MMS' in Google Messenger. Some it will download. Standard txt's seem fine? Have a group of about 4 under a user category (this is usually where various threads/contacts are shown in Messenger) "message not found". Then under known contacts, I had 4 labeled as "couldn't download" - "touch to download" - which upon touching, state "downloading"... which at some point fails (like, lots longer later - 10 minutes +, and states the msg size is 709KB?)
Also, just noted the "more-widespread issue of MMS not working with WiFi on". Will investigate this possibility.
edit: my wifi has been off. So, not a culprit with my particular problem.
Yup, standard SMS works, but the only way I can get MMS to work in any client is to cycle WiFi and reboot. It's an enormous bug.
Hi, I have strange issue with my Gmail app notifications.
I have googled up it all, there is no solution for my case. No fix at all., so far... So, I have come to ask the wise people
CyanogenMod on rooted OnePlus One.
Few months ago, my Gmail app stopped sending notifications, at all. From all of my gmail accounts. Not a single notification. It was always working well...
It is not:
-disabled notifications on my account setting, iside of gmail app settings
-not allowed notifications inside Apps > Gmail app info
Also, I have logged in on a different smartphone. Notifications was working just right on it...
Please, tell me there is something I have missed out...
Thanks )
It seems to me that this is impossible to explain. I recently bought my father a Xiaomi N8T and he has a similar problem. He receives Gmail notifications only when he returns from work and connects to wi-fi. When you update your mail manually, everything is ok, but with LTE notifications do not come. I re-read a lot of information on the Internet, tried different options, but I still could not find a solution.
