Stock Nexus 5 on T-Mobile.
Have somehow gotten into a situation where my SMS and MMS messages in Hangouts disappear from view (in Hangouts) if I log out of Google+/Hangouts. Log in - they appear - log out, they disappear.
Have even tried clearing all MMS and SMS, logging out of Google+/Hangouts, and then restoring the SMS/MMS messages. Nothing. No messages seen (in Hangouts). And then I log back in to Google+/Hangouts, and wham! they reappear.
Somehow, Hangouts has decided that all of my MMS/SMS messages belong in my Google+/Hangouts profile, and if I'm not in that profile, I don't need to see my SMS/MMS (in Hangouts).
[Third-party SMS/MMS apps remain OK, however the messages are messed up - wrong order, SMS show with a blank title line, etc]
What is going on, and how can I fix this?
You probably just have to close it and re-open it (if it's still set as the default SMS app), but the bigger question is...
Why do you keep logging out and back in to Google+/Hangouts?

It is kind of a two part app. a standalone sms app and a sms/hangouts app at the same time. When you are logged into hangouts you are smsing in that part of the app. If you sign out you are not longer in the combined app. You are now in the stand alone version. If you don't use hangouts stay signed out. If you do use hangouts stay signed in. It is kind of "it is what it is" thing. It may change later but for now with this first release for integration that is how it acts.

hangouts is designed to stay logged in... but best way to fix it would be get a MSG app and use that for texts and then log in to hangouts when you want to use it.. Or stay logged into hangouts all the time

Would have understood if new messages I sent from Hangouts had ended up in the 'combined' app. But surprised that my old SMS messages from last week, month and year get hijacked into 'combined app' as soon as I activate SMS functionality within Hangouts, and won't show unless I'm logged in.

I wondered whether anyone else has seen this behaviour in the Stock SMS messaging app.
To set the scene I have a Vodafone Branded Sensation with the latest OTA applied.
When I create large text messages, so over 500 Characters which splits into 4 messages, I try and use a Google contact GROUP as the recipient. When I do this just before I click send I get the dreaded message "mms app has stop responding and needs to be forced closed".
I have no other option than to hit close, this then forces the app down and also doesn't save my mammoth message I just ticked in!!
Anybody else seen this happen, I swear it was working pre the OTA update!!??
EDIT: The same behaviour happens with Handcent SMS, which makes me think something more sinister is going on here!
Hi Everyone,
I hope someone could point me in the right direction or has experienced this and solved it. I did a search but couldn't find a similar issue.
First, I've experienced this issue on DroidKang, one other ROM which I'm forgetting at the moment, and now SOKP. The Google Voice app is configured to receive messages via the messaging app (Hangouts) and Voice+ is activated (it routes all outgoing SMS/MMS messages using your Google Voice number no matter the messaging app).
- Like the title of the thread, when I switch between WiFi and Data connections, a whole stream of Hangouts SMS messages comes in that I had already received before switching over.
- If I continue that Hangouts SMS conversation for a bit and then switch back, all of those messages from the continued Hangouts SMS conversation will again stream back in.
- I end up having two entries in the Hangouts conversations list, one from the correctly named person, the other from a random number but the SMS text is prefaced by their actual name.
I really like the ability to use Hangouts for SMS but require to use my Google Voice number in order to do so.
I'm not being too hopeful but maybe someone else has experienced this?
This probably is not a question specific to this device but hoping I can get help. I'm just missing the setting somewhere.
I have the latest version of hangouts. I use it to send and receive SMS messages. The problem is, every SMS message I receive also shows up as an email in gmail. I think it must have been a setting I checked when I first set up the application but Ican't find a way to unset it.
To be clear... I want hangouts for SMS but I do not want any SMS messages going to my gmail.
Any help?

Go to Google Voice settings for Voicemail and Text (https://www.google.com/voice?pli=1#voicemailsettings) and uncheck "Text Forwarding - Forward text messages to my email:"
Hi, just bought a new ATT S7, running 6.01.
For years, i have run SMS Backup + to sync texts to my gmail account. Love it.
On my new S7, this app does not recognize/sync SMS texts sent from the phone. If i use Google now to dictate "send message to xxx saying yyy" ...that text composed that way gets sync'd. But one that is typed or dictated in the messaging app does NOT.
Sent SMS texts are NOT sync'd either using Exchange activesync. Recvd texts sync fine.
I also use MightyText and sent texts from the phone do not show up in the app. If i send a text from the MightyText web app, it usually will sync via SMS Backup +.
I have reached out to both vendors for assistance.
i have changed my keyboard from Samsung kybd to Google keyboard. no luck.
Anyone seeing anything like this?
I turned off "Advanced Messaging" and it seems to take longer to Send the SMS from the phone, and the message will intermittently sync with the various apps (Sms backup +, MightyText.) But not always.
make sure your apn info is correct for SMS / MMS

Keeping ADV messaging disabled seems to do the trick.
I have a problem with my messaging app. I get text messages from my contacts, which I can reply to with no problems, but randomly, I'll get a notification for 99+ new messages. If I swipe down on the notifications, most of them are old messages, some new, and the majority are notifications from Amazon regarding something being shipped, from UPS, FedEx, Google Authentication, mostly messages that aren't from a phone number. For example, the notifications from Amazon are from +262966. Amazon, in particular has (55) next to the notification, which means I have 55 unread messages, but when I select any of them, it brings me to the messaging app, but none of them show up in the messaging app. I've selected the drop down menu next to the notification and selected "Mark as Read," but after an hour or so, they all come back. When I got the S8+, I selected to backup all my messages to the AT&T Messages Backup & Sync, so I could restore all my messages to my new S8+. After restoring them, I kept the AT&T Messages Backup & Sync enabled just in case something were to happen to my phone, and I was receiving all these new texts. Then I disabled it, but I still receive all these new texts. I'm wondering if there's a way to access these messages and delete them forever since I don't need them anymore. It's very frustrating to get 99+ notifications, but I can't view these messages anywhere and have no idea where they're coming from. Anyone have any suggestions?
It's probably from Samsung backup when you logged in
