[Q] Best way to protect S4 display - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

Hi to all,
I'm considering buying something that can best protect my S4 display. What can you advise me against accidental falls or blows to the display?
What's best choice?
Cover?
Tempered display films?
Bumper?
Many thanks

Personally-and others may disagree- I have glass screen protector from mime. Price is steep, but with 50% off, no hassle warranty from mime, it was worth it. Mind you, I got three replacements because I dropped my phone on concrete, then accidently dropped ipad on my phone. Both cases resulted in glass protector shattering, but the screen itself is completely fine.
On top of that, I use otterbox commuter when I go mt climbing, or camping.

Mmm ok...MIME at the moment cost 24$

Is the MIME case friendly? I have the spigen case so a screen protector needs to have minimal coverage to make room for the case lip.

If you have a spigen case, buy a spigen tempered glass protector. They all are all comparable with each other as long as they are spigen brand. Personally I had a mime feather lite tempered glass protector and it worked great. They're quite thin, but thin enough to where it will crack if flexed too much during installation. I recommend a spigen glassTr protector. They're ultra durable and don't diminish the capability of the screen at all. Well worth the price.
As far as cases go, I'm using a spigen neo hybrid. I've dropped my phone from about six feet up a few times now, and the case has protected the phone perfectly. Its also fairly thin so it doesn't add a very much bulk at all. As far heavy protection goes, otter box ultimately has superior protection.

I have been using the spigen crystal series screen protectors ( $8 for 3) and the neo hybrid case. Seems to protect pretty well.

$24, but amazing customer service, and 50% discount on future replacements in case protector shatters.
You get what you pay for.. eBay has cheaper ones, but doesn't have the same quality, nor after sales support.

With mime, there is small space around the edges, for cases with curling lips.
I have spigen neo hybrid, and ultra thin case. Additionally, otterbox commuter and samsung official case (not sview nor flip cover). And I can say all the cases fit without a problem.

Otterbox or something similar. If you can get a discount even better, but the price is worth the protection these type of cases provide.

Just make sure you buy it from them directly (their Amazon or Ebay outlet).
Buy from *ANYWHERE ELSE* and they do not support you. Even if it can be verified that the product is authentic.
This is egregious and I will never buy their product again.

This is why I didn't feel bad buying a knockoff slimarmor s-view. At least I know I'm not getting no customer service and the price reflects that. Spigen gets the benefit of claiming awesome customer service, but only for a select group who buy through 2 options when multiple others are available. It's like samsung voiding your warranty because you bought your phone from AT&T and not verizon or sprint.

Mime doesn't sell any cases.

This SPIGEN SGP Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector GLAS.t NANO SLIM protected my screen like a champ when it fell, screen first, from aprox. 5 feet.

I like the MIME better and is what i have. I also have the Neo Hybrid and the slim armor cases from Spigen, I like the MIME Ghost glass best for 2 reasons.
first, The hardness rating is a 9H and the Spigen is an 8H rating so MIME is harder to scratch technically.
Second, The MIME is a .32mm thickness compared to Spigen's .40mm. I like this because with the very thin case edges the MIME still is recessed so if/when you put the phone face down it isn't resting on the glass protector.
1 more thing. MIME (others likely do too) has a thin layer of coating to resist finger prints. Solvents like windex and such will break that down. Use something for cleaning LCD and you will be better off. My first MIME Ghost Glass i used windex all the time and my finger prints were getting bad on it (way easier) and my 2nd one i only use the actual screen cleaner stuff and after 3 or 4 months it's still hard to get it all mucked up with prints.

does anybody have any experience with the Spigen Slim Armor View? i wanna get one of these along with a nano screen protector from Spigen as well, but i want to know what is my best choice between the Spigen cases

This is what I use and I love it. Completely cannot tell it's there and 100% feels like the bare screen since it is of course glass just like the bare screen.

Unrelated to the thread topic, but I have one in white and love it. I would suggest going through the slim view armor thread and finding a reputable knockoff dealer and getting it from there. Spigen will not replace it most times when it fails, even if you order it through an 'official' store and the hinges on the official case sometimes break.
I paid $15 for my knockoff and after 6 months of use on a construction site its still like new aside from the scratches. A glass screen protector does make it harder to press the home button to light up the s-view display, but that's a function of the screen protector thickness, not the case. With an aluminum home button sticker it goes back to a very light press.
I also run it with an official spigen glass.tr protector (Picked it up for $20, otherwise I wouldn't buy it).

Oh I complained about Spigen, but did not indicate what I use.
I use a glass screen protector. Glass all the way.

They show up fast and only cost $9 or so. They are a little thicker than the Spigen Nano but for me it doesn't matter.
It definitely doesn't matter at $9.

Spigen tempered glass screen protector all the way.
Serious they are really just the best. Not only in terms of protection, it's also super slim and ultra clear.

anti reflexion screen protector, best!

Full Protection Help - Nexus 4 Full Film screen protector and bumper case

Hi xdas,
I just ordered my Nexus 4, finally!!, and i want to get some protection for my baby when it delivers. I am looking for a full screen protector film for front and back or even sides, and a bumper case, for a cheap and reasonable quality product. The official Nexus 4 bumper case is priced too high for a case, so i decided to look for other options. I would like to hear some suggestions on the full film screen protector and bumper case, and i would prefer to buy it from ebay or amazon or the company's official website, because i do not trust unknown sites.
The few products i found for bumper cases are:
Poetic Borderline Bumper Case - $9.95
Shenit Bumper Case - $14.95 (Not sure about this, seems unknown)
for full film screen i found:
XtremeGuard Full Body screen protector shield - $3.99 or $4.99
Skinomi TechSkin for Nexus 4 - $12.99
ZAGG invisibleSHIELD for Nexus 4 - Full Body ($20.96) vs Maximum Coverage ($20.65) I do not know if the Maximum is better because it might interfere with buttons and other holes because it is not cut properply
Note: Can anyone tell me also if *wet* application is good, because i read some reviews that it damages the phone, and you have to dip it in soap, yikes, a phone in water i think its going to damage it.
Can you guys recommend me to some other alternatives other than the one i posted and if also you can give me reviews on those i posted?
Thanks so much in advance!
*Edit: I added the links for each item.
BUMP! any suggestions still?

I currently have the poetic bumper, and it's good till it splits, but the company has a really good warrant and has been shipping out replacements pretty quickly. Heard there's a new version, but waiting on this one to break first. As of screens protectors, I had an extreme guard, took it off, but prolly putting another back on. Just a helpful hint about applying wet apply screen protectors, DO NOT PLACE THE PHONE IN WATER. The protector goes in the water, then onto your phone. The phone is dry, the protector gets wet, to slide on the phone easier (giggedy). Here is a video to help you along. The wet apply protectors can go over the edges of the phone while the dry one won't cover that portion of the screen. Hope that helps.

Go with the xoskins case fit version. They are wet install but don't have orange peel. They also come with spray and lifetime replacements. Get a generic bumper on amazon. Some ship from china some ship from the US. Make sure so you dont end up waiting 2 months for a bumper.
I use skinomi carbon fiber skins on all my devices. No bumpers, cases, or anything else that makes the phone bulky or harder to carry in my front jeans pocket. Just ordered for my N4, can't wait to slap it on.
As for screen protector, I run it naked. I don't carry anything else in my left pocket besides my phone and just am generally careful to not scratch the screen.
I got a cheap xtremeguard for the back, nothing on the front because I love how slick it is and the poetic bumper.
For me it is the perfect setup except I'm on my 2nd bumper because the first one separated.

I'm confused about why people would use a wet install skin on the Nexus 4. Wet skins are meant for phones that don't need a bumper and give some shock absorption. The Nexus 4 needs a bumper/case because it is made from glass. If it falls with only a wet skin protecting it, it will still crack. Anyhow, the transparent sticky ones from eBay look even better and they only cost 50 cents.

Aren't you playing with fire? Even with skinomi, if you drop your phone once on the pavement, the glass will probably still crack.

Glass Screen Protector or No...?

Hey guys, so I have never used a glass screen protector before, I have always used Ghost Armor's screen protector which is almost like a rubberized material. Anyways...I was looking at the Spigen nano glass screen protector but I am having a difficult time justifying spending $35, but not sure if I trust the knock-off ones either. Keep in mind my phone is ALWAYS in either my Otterbox Defender case, Otterbox Commuter Case, or UAG Maverick case. I guess my question is...is it worth getting one of these glass screen protectors if I am always using the above cases??
Yes it is worth it. I myself had zagg invisible shields for years. Similiar to ghost armour. I'm pretty happy with tempered glass screen protector. Here is a link that will help on where to buy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457815

No it's not. Im the same way. Always having cases with great proection. The glass screen protector is ideal for someone not using a case. Or a very thin case. I have a body glove balastic wich has great protection and now my temperedglass screen protector. And I love it.

Well I will get the Spigen one when I have an extra $35 to spend I guess lol
I can share my experience with glass protectors.
Two months ago, I dropped my phone during a phone conversation at the height of 1.7-1.8 meters. It fell on rough cement ground, and I had no case on, so I naturally feared what I might see when I went to pick up my new galaxy s4.
All four corners of my bezel/frame were severely dented and scratched.
The glass protector was shattered to pieces. But to my surprise, my screen was in perfect condition. Upon inspection, found that adhesive between protector and galaxy s4 screen helped the protector to absorb and redistribute force of the drop, rather than the screen taking the hit.
My investment in glass protector was well justified on this account. Besides, it feels much better than rubbery ghost armor.
Mind you, I have GA on my ipad3, ipad mini, iphone 4 and 5, and galaxy tab.
And the smoothness of glass screen protector is incomparable.
Hope this helps make yours decision.

I don't understand why people want to ruin premium latest Gorilla glass generation with screen protector. Even tempered glass ones will never have same features like original Gorilla glass, especially I am talking about clearness, smooth gliding and oleo-phobic covering for easy cleaning. I would recommend quality leather pouch or S-view cover case to protect your screen, also handling phone with care would prolong its lifetime significantly.
Well my point is I use very protective cases...not slim cases...but maybe I will take the plunge on the spigen screen protector. Any of you have any experience with the cheap knock off ones?

You've never been to the beach then.
A grain of sand can scratch the gg3.
I like glass screen protectors.
Gorilla glass can scratch and break.
I have this protector:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/171172132327?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Apparently out of stock. When they have them, they are about $8.00.
There is also, this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321245033521?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I didn't buy it because I like the home button closed in.
I would skip the Spigen glass. Too expensive and crappy customer support.
I had one and since I didn't buy it from an "authorized dealer" they won't offer the 50% discount on replacement.
It was authentic and passed their web check but nothing.
So I'll buy the cheap ones.

No,
I got sucked into these cheapies for the price and if I were to mess it up i wouldn't be wasting 30 bucks. They are good to practice with and i honed my skill with them. Once i put on a high quality screen protector the difference was near night and day from touch feel and feedback to how clear and cleaner everything looks
I'm still waiting for my glass protectors so i can test them out. Like i said those cheap ones from E-bay are only good for practice and quick protection until you can get better.
As for those asking why have it?
Gorilla Glass 3 is better then others but still not indestructible. Having a little more protection never hurts. As one person pointed out their $6-$30 investment may have saved their $500+ product. Well worth it imo.

Spigen's tempered glass is oleo-phobic treated glass. I cannot tell the difference, in smoothness of glide, etc. And it holds up pretty damn well to wear and tear. I had it for 13 months on my Note II and it didn't scratch much.
For the OP, if you even have to worry about it, get it. I have this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPIGEN-SGP-...l_Phone_Screen_Protectors&hash=item3a83e3d3ef
I had it on my Note 2, my wife's Iphone 5S, my (sold) nexus 5), and my S4. On my Note 2, I have it COMPLETELY encased in shock absorbing rubber and plastic. But if the phone falls and it's JUST RIGHT, the shock will still travel through the phone. Also, you can drop your phone nad have it hit the edge of a table and the case isn't gonna do a damn thing for it. I am a runner so I run a hell of a lot. and I use my phone once in a while when I need to change songs, answer a call, etc. When it's 3 degrees and your hands are cold, you can drop a phone. I did, and the glass protector cracked. no mark on my Note. I was able to recently sell my Note for $325, I wouldn't be able to do that if the screen was cracked!
IMO, totally worth the $20 I spent on it.
Buy it on ebay, it's still directly from Spigen, and it's $10 cheaper.

Tempered glass case friendly?

Hey guys, ive never bought a tempered glass screen protector, and im wondering how case friendly they are? Im due for my upgrade on monday so id like to get one on order as long as its G2G with the bodyglove dropsuit rugged series case. Thanks
hi,
I did not have any problem but the case I use is one you find in the att store. it's not a 'slim' case by any stretch its a very thickish rubbery type thing for maxiumum protection. you could probably drop kick the phone and not even phase it.
the temperd glass with the case I'm using is no problem -- both I got in the att store when upgraded. my advice if you are shopping around online is to find people who use the case you do and ask them

I have 2 different versions of the Spigen and love the tempered glass I got from Luvvitt and Amazon
I have a Zagg Glass on mine and it fits fine into the Otterbox Defender.
I recommend Nillkin, the glass has beveled edges which will slide on the object that makes contact with the glass' edges and therefore prevent movement pressure. If you decided to go for another brand, I suggest you also look for beveled edges.
to be honest id say it fits most of the cases.. only bumpers might have some problems
Same here as Taz420nj, Zagg Glass and a Otterbox Defender case. I should have my Trident Kraken case this coming Tuesday. Best of both worlds as far as protection goes.

I have this one from Cybertech. It claims to be 0.15mm thick. It is very thin so that seems possible. It is unscathed after a month.
They are very inexpensive ($6.49 w/free shipping) so I may order 2-3 more.
It hasn't interfered with any of my cases. My daily case is a Caseology but I have a few others that I sometimes use..

Best Screen Protector for S4

Recently i bought a very good tempered glass screen protector called " Zerolemon tempered glass " and it's only 9 bucks.
I want to recommend this product to everyone because it is absolutely amazing and it's worth every penny. No bubbles at all, very easy installation, oleophobic coating and great feel at touch (feels much better than plastic).
So you don't have to waste time to monthly apply cheap plastic screen protectors or money to buy expensive tempered glass like phantom glass.
http://zerolemon.com/product/zerole...glass-screen-protector-for-samsung-galaxy-s4/
Seems a bit thick at .3mm compared to Spigen at .18.
Do you know if a UAG case can fit around this glass?
I have an otterbox commuter and it fits perfectly. It shall work with any case.
I know a guy with a Spigen (I think) case with a glass screen protector.
Brands don't matter, I get the cheapest one and there is no way that a $20-$30 one is worth it. Took a year to crack, and it was only $3. Finding a case for the thicker ones though is the hard part, I got a .33

This. I get one from Amazon that is $4, and apart from being rather thick (0.4mm, but fits perfectly in my Spigen Neo Hybrid) has everything that name brand ones offer, rounded edges, oleophobic coating, easy install, no bubbles or haze, etc.

did you find the case which accommodated S4 with a thick glass? i had to remove the soft tissue coating from Seidio Platinum Series Case and it fits nicely but it craps the device with some glue residue...
really would like to find an affordable matte alternative for Seidio (like 10-15$ max).

Best protective case that isn't Survivor or Otterbox.

I'm looking for a case that provides moderate protection from drops since I'm pretty clumsy with my tablet usage. I'd like to be able to put on tapered glass on the tablet with a case backing it up to ensure that it has good protection from drops.
Anyone know of any good combinations? It'd be a huge plus if I can close the case as well like a notebook.

It has a built in screen protector and those built in ones are pretty garbage. Also I specifically stated for a cover that covers the tablet front when it's not in use similar to a book type of cover but I can settle for a TPU case if it doesn't have a built in screen protector.

You and me both bud. Sadly, there's not much variety to choose for this tablet. The leather book cases doesn't seem to provide moderate protection. I might just settle for the Moko case if the tapered glass fits in just fine.
The beetle has survived after a few minor drops. The screen cover isn't that great and after a while it starts to suck. I'm going to remove it and use a glass protector instead, because that works?

I use the BobjGear Rugged Cover for the tab-s and i have a tempered glass screen protector on also. But it does not have a cover.
Im using slimarmor. accidentally dropped on stairs 15 setps high.. checked it.. unscathed. Cost - 300php or roughly $7
I'm using a Moko slim case for my 8.4. It provides decent protection from scratches and minor bumps. Not sure it will hold up against long drops. Cool thing is it has magnet to wake the tablet up when you open the cover. They're on sale on Amazon for around $14.
