Hello
I'd like to ask how is Nexus 5 overall ?
Are you people satisfied ?
Is the battery too bad ?
GPS is fast ?
Internet draining battery ? Or it is OK ?
Am thinking of buying it but not sure , any advice ll'be thankful
Thank you
Overall N5 is fantastic...and for the price u cnt ask for bettr...atleast m satisfied..screen is good, gps works very well got the gps locked in couple of seconds, super fast...camera loads a bit slow but heard that it got fixed in 4.4.1 update...still didnt get the OTA so cnt tell..
Battery is not that bad....if u r a heavy gamer u ll a bit disappointed..
Previously i hated the pure android look...but after kitkat i m loving the clean look.!!

Had a large range of premium phones before the N5, and this is my favourite phone so far.
Fast interface, excellent design, and very quick to use. overall it's cheap and extremely good.
The Battery is very good in 4.4.1 and the camera is just as good as the S4 I once had. It won't beat my Lumia 1020 but what can?

Personally i owned the lg optimus black previously and was bored of the optimus ui...evn g2 has the same ui with minor changes here and there plus full of bloatwares plus no assuarity of gettin updates plus the glossy plastic makes it look cheaper than N5 but in real lyf is expensive than the N5.
People gettin the g2 is only bcoz of larger battery who need 6+ hours of SOT...if u r not a gamer then the N5 battery ll b enuf to last the whole day..

Hi, new to the forums
I have to say that i am loving my Nexus 5 so far. In particular my battery life, considering that yesterday i managed to reach 7 HOURS of screen on time. This is however using a custom ROM and Kernel. I also disabled the Location settings too as this did seem to drain more battery.
Feel free to ask any questions.

I'm coming from an old 'dumb' phone, most of my friends and family have iPhones. What attracted to me was Google speech recognition. I'm very pleased with my Nexus 5 purchase. I absolutely love speech dictation SMSs and emails. while it's not perfect, it's way better than Siri. I'm very pleased with the sound quality of music playback, but only through the headset, not through the speaker. I listen to music using the app, Fusion and Yuin PK2 ear buds. I think that the Nexus 5 plays as well if not better than my iPod, which will soon be put up on eBay. I find that navigating and setting up KitKat a bit laborious. the iPhone is easier to navigate around. Apple's IOS is definitely more user friendly and more intuitive. Android is often unclear and not obvious. It took me quite a while to just figure out how to add different ring tones and notification sounds as well as how to select different ringtones and alarm and notification sounds. But, with XDA-developers forums, I figured it out. KitKat is logical, but IOS is a simpler and a more obvious interface. Basically, battery life sucks, but I think that after my first month of playing and exploring, battery life may improve for me. GPS is fine and camera is adequate. Though I'm usually critical about things, I'm having a lot of fun with my Nexus 5 and am very happy with my purchase. I prefer plain vanilla Android over other phones and carrier's skins, bloat and their flash and trash.

The signal on the Nexus 5 is far better than my Galaxy Nexus. I get LTE (Sprint) in areas I didn't get it before and in areas I had LTE before I have a faster connection. Compared side by side, the Gnex signal is 10db lower than the Nexus 5.
Coming from the Galaxy Nexus, the Nexus 5 is a huge improvement in all areas. Faster overall, better battery life, better signal.

I live in Forest Hills, Queens, NY and just joined TMobile's $30/month-100 min/Unlimited [email protected]/Unlimited text and I get 3-4 bars on my Nexus 5, inside the basement office of my house. No loss of signal and no dropped calls. WiFi works fine, from basement located WiFi 'n' router to 2nd floor. On the 2nd floor the WiFi graphic on the phone looks weak, but always connects.
Connectivity on my N5 is very good..!!
Itz better than the z1..my roommate owns a z1 faces some problem ovr wifi connectivity which is not the case for me..
Overall connectivity is v.gud on N5
If my post helped u a bit...help me by pressin the THANK button!!!
Overall really good phone. Display is beautiful. Battery life is good on stock and great if you want to install a custom kernal (such as franco's).
GPS is quick to lock and never had any issue. Signal is really good too. Great device all around.

Not true at all. The N5 has the best signal of any device on the market right now. It has been proven in real world test as well as my own tests using signal meters.
If you are having signal issues I suggest it is not your device but some other factor on the network end.
Either that or your device is defective and is an outlier.

That doesn't mean everyone is having issues. I have no issues with my signal strength nor have I ever lost signal. I even compared the radio from 4.4 to the one in 4.4.1 and saw no difference.

The phone is beautiful and satisfying to hold and use. People can complain about issues and problems all they want but in the end, no phone is perfect.
I am a cellphone repair technician and play with and fix phones 45 hours a week. The n5 is a great phone if you are looking for a stock phone without all the bs and bloatware

HI all
so i ordered my nexus 5 from us play store although i live outside
so ill not get the lte.
Iam kind of worried of the wifi coverage because its my primary connection
so from this video he had weak performance and coverage
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4OicFhI9xo
What about your experience with it ? And how do you compare it with other phones
(if u have the nexus 5)
thanx all
I have noticed a slight decrease in signal/performance compared to my S4...though since I have a wifi extender in my house it's not really a problem

Thanks for posting the video here and the question, you beat me to it. I've been playing around some more this morning with my router just double checking it's not a setting or channel clash with other peoples gear. All checks out fine.
Would be interested to hear from others who have their Nexus 5's now, hows your wifi?

Here is what I have found doing some tests:
With router in same room about 2 meters away from me
34mbs Nexus 5
34mbs Galaxy S4
Move to the bedroom and we get this
Nexus 5 16mbs
Galaxy S4 22mbs
That's a fairly big difference and indicates something is going one somewhere. I ran each test twice and made sure theirs no downloads anywhere on the internal network or to the web and also that all other wifi devices are turned off. I turned off the alternate device while i did each test so the S4 couldn't interfere with the Nexus 5 and vice versa.

but in your opinion, is a software or hardware problem? Why did I read that even the nexus 4 has little wi fi reception :'(
Here same problem too, Wi-Fi coverage like the Galaxy Nexus's one... horrible.
I've now had about 6 or 7 replacements of Nexus 5's with varying ***K numbers and finally Google have asked me if I would accept a full refund instead of a replacement.
The main issue I've been getting that isn't being fixed by them is nobody can hear ever me properly as it's always muffled on their end although I can hear them perfectly.
If I were to get a replacement, there's a 99.99% chance that the issue will still be there but I love everything else about the phone too much.
If I were to get a refund, what alternative is there that's as good as the Nexus 5 offering a pure Android experience?
Weird... Since I bought this phone people say they hear me more clearly now.

It's noise cancellation. depends on where you are (how much background noise and how close to the second microphone the noise is)

Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Well, there are obviously no devices which provide the pure android experience except the GPE editions of HTC One etc.
However, if you like to root, then you can basically buy any high end device and flash a custom rom and enjoy the pure aosp experience. But the Nexus 5 is Google's baby and the awesome support you will get here won't be available elsewhere! Nexus 5 is a cut above the rest when it comes to development
I would strongly suggest you to wait for Google's next update
---------- Post added at 06:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:49 PM ----------
Well, I won't say it's crystal clear but there isn't much muffling on my device. Yes, as rootsu explained, it surely does depend upon the environment you're in.

6 or 7 times, honestly i don't know how you have the patience. Luckily I haven't experienced this problem, what i do know is that when i had the S2 i used to get very good call quality. Its noise cancellation worked to well. I'd imagine its the same for the S4 and S5.
One thing I will say though, I don't think i'd happier with any phone currently more than the Nexus 5. I had the LG G2 briefly, expecting it to be a superior N5 I was shockingly disappointed. The build quality is relatively poor compared to the N5 and the screen isn't big enough for me to notice the difference. The back was a finger print nightmare (though the white version of the LG G2 might disguise this) and I personally found the buttons on the back awkward.
The deal breaker ultimately was knowing i'd not be able to get pure AOSP for the LG G2, not in the same manner as the Nexus 5, in that it comes with stock vanilla rom, to which i can simply add Xposed frameworks and tweak every aspect of my rom. The G2's would always be custom version from CM or AOKP etc, (which isn't necessarily a bad thing for most).
Anyway, all this made me appreciate the N5 even more. (The white one )

I've had this issue on every single N5 I've had from Google. Every single person complains they can't hear me properly or I sound like I'm far away from the mic. Blocking the top noise cancelling mic helps but I really don't want to have to hold my phone a certain way just to speak to my contacts (reminds me of the iPhone 4 antenna issue).
I'll just get a replacement again one last time and then try to find out if they will be addressing the issue in a future update or something.
I don't think there's any other phone that's as good as the N5.
The HTC One is too old now and I can't get a GPE version here in the UK. Also I'm too used to having 3 buttons as opposed to HTC One's 2 button approach.
I hate Samsungs from the horrible Touchwiz to their plasticky uninspiring build quality. To get vanilla, I'd need to root which means a void warranty.
Not keen on the LG G2 or Sony's for similar reasons about voiding warranty as Samsungs to get vanilla.
No offence but what was the point in creating this thread then? You've pretty much explained everything in your previous post. The device which you're looking for is a Nexus and you yourself have pointed out as to why you don't want to buy any other devices!
In any case, lets just be patient and hope that THE BOSS releases this fix in their next update! Cheers!
I've sent Google an angry email regarding this issue asking them to look into fixing it.
In the meantime, I've asked for another replacement.

No but by testing that you identify that it IS noise cancellation.
Asking for a replacement is useless. I mean literally useless. The new one WILL have this issue. There is no fix yet. Either wait until there is or get a refund.

I'm not settling for a phone that is useless as a 'phone'. I'm going to keep getting them to send me replacements until they understand there's an issue here that needs addressing. I'll just keep doing it until the Nexus 6 comes out then sell on my latest replacement as a brand new unopened handset and get the Nexus 6.
If this was the iPhone, they'd have addressed and fixed it a long time ago!! Why should we have to suffer this issue.

Not sure quite how to say this but basically, "bars" are not an accurate form of measurement, nor are they comparable between devices.
Do a speed test and compare transfer speed and latency.
Weak Wi-Fi signal was one of the reasons I returned my Nexus 5.
My SGS3 had two more bars than the Nexus 5 in my living room.
Poor Wi-Fi antenna probably. Can't expect more for 350$.
Bars are a joke. Some manufactures set the bars to be full at very low dBm levels. Hence why some phone have "GREAT" wifi coverage and some need "help". lol Get Wifi Analyzer from the play store. Load it up on both devices. See how the dBm levels differ from the same spot. If the N7 has more dBm's then the N5 than you have conclusive proof to back your complaint. Should take all of three minutes to to some testing. Let us know the results.

15% doesn't seem like anything to worry about. You could try forcing the correct WiFi frequency (2.4Ghz or 5Ghz) on your phone to see if that helps at all.

Hi all
I picked up a 5 month old nexus 5 yesterday running 5.0.1 stock, its a wonderful very fast phone, I'm coming from a moto g 2013 so the speed bump is noticeable.
So far everything seems to be working really well, i cant get a GPS lock inside a building but it works fine outside (the moto g easily got a fix inside) but who need GPS indoors anyway
I'm going to try out the phone for the next week or 2 and see how it performs, I've read battery life can be disappointing but it was factory reset yesterday and battery life seems fine so far, i guess ill have to give it a few more cycles to be fair.
I also use GPS/maps a fair bit for my work, on the moto, google maps used very little battery , any experiences anyone with battery life and GPS on the nexus ?
One further question, do you think the upcoming 5.0.2 update will improve the battery life or is 5.0.1 what i can best expect ? also any ideas when the official 5.0.2 update is pushed to my phone (its in the uk).
Thanks
Michael

One further question, do you think the upcoming 5.0.2 update will improve the battery life or is 5.0.1 what i can best expect ? also any ideas when the official 5.0.2 update is pushed to my phone (its in the uk).
Thanks
Michael

5.0.2 was only a fix or two, mainly for the Nexus 7. Highly unlikely Google will push 5.0.2 factory images/OTA for other devices since it's almost pointless and would be a waste of bandwidth. Custom ROMs have merged 5.0.2 in anyways since it was no big deal.

LOL
Really find it hard to decide between this and my old moto g,
The nexus is blazing fast etc etc, but the moto felt just right in the hand and it was relatively cheap so i don't mind it being thrown around a bit.

Yea. I was very happy when there was SE not just Sony. But after, when their UI design gone to look like anime cartoon, no thanks.

Sounds like a horrible experience, luckily so far my nexus seems to be working very well , i guess i'll know better in a week or 2.
Wondering if wifi is good on the 5.. I had gotten the s6 and sold it as the WiFi was awful. Wondering if this is an issue. TIA

My Wifi signal is good.
I am having issues with my WiFi. Slow speeds, frequently dropped signal. Very frustrating. I have noticed multiple signals coming from the same source. So I am going back to try and eliminate those to see if its my phone or my router. I will say these phones do not like multiple signals in an area.

Thanks. On my s6 it would show a great signal and then say not connected. I never found out if it is the chip or software. So I am just leary . Thanks

Edited post due to the post below mine. I deleted that after I read it. Used the OpenDNS solutions the guy was talking about and fixed it. Don't use DNSet.

I'll just leave this here. Of course decide for yourself.

Same as s5
I actually have a decent test for wifi. In my house, there's a shop a few (probably 6) hundred feet away, and if I leave my phone searching for wifi signals for a little bit, it powers up the antennas to the point it can pick it up, barely. This was all on my s5. So I figured, if this phone can do it, then it's the same. And I tried today, and it seems to be about the same, maybe a touch better. Which, I think is pretty good considering the difference in materials.
