First Nexus phone, loving it so far. I was wondering if it was possible to make folders/groups in the apps menu itself..(NOT the homescreen). My buddy has the HTC One and it has a that option, I was just wondering if there is an app or a special way to do that for the Nexus 5? and the phone is rooted.

The My Touch 4G is the best android phone I've ever had and I pre-ordered the G1. I've had the My touch 3G. I've rooted every device I've had. The nexus one to get apps2sd mainly because the available memory wasn't enough. I had to forgo apps like google earth etc.. I was never able to try sense roms for long because of the memory needed to run them. I debated between nexus s and this phone and I know I made a god choice this phone has everything. I can't wait for the next generation android. Google is the best. I would never have imagined the possiblities three years ago when first heard of the google phone. I just want to thank the developers who have worked so hard to make our devices better. Google and custom...Cyanogen and others... With the amount of memory on this phone I haven't missed my Cyanogen Rom so much... I've tried the Gingerbread launcher thanks Paul...I've used ADW launcher thanks ADW TEAM. And I've been able to give Sense a real try...like it. I have all the apps from my nexus one with room to spare. I'll never have another blackberry or windows mobile phone and I've had both. I heart android....

Q: Can we port SenseUI/Galaxy S apps to the Nexus S?
Most likely, no. Those apps typically require the Rosie/Touchwiz framework in order to function. You can have those apps when and if a developer decides to port those ROMs in their entirety.

iOS =/= Android. Comparing apples to oranges, mate.
Anything that's specialized on Android or a proprietary OEM app usually had to be coded in as part of their custom framework. For instance, just about every Android phone has an FM radio reciever chip but only the phones with SenseUI(possibly Blur/TouchWiz too, but I know Sense for sure) have it enabled natively(until the MIUI team figured out how to do it without Rosie on the Nexus One.)
Thia phone is pure stock Android, meaning if this phone cant do something straight out of the box or its missing a feature found on TouchWiz/Sense then it isn't supported without their framework or massively awesome custom hackery. Am I saying it can't be done? Nah, someone more clever than I might come up with a way as that is what this community does best.
But for now, TouchWiz is probably going to be required for any Samsung apps found only on Galaxy S android devices..

Hello all,
After owning only HTC phones for quite a while, I finally switched to Samsung and the Skyrocket is, by far, the best phone I have ever used.
However, coming from HTC phones, I actually was one who loved HTC Sense. I'm getting used to Touchwiz and have modified the phone heavily to give it that same style and functionality.
The problem is that I can't find a decent photo gallery widget for Android that somewhat functions the same way as the one in HTC phones.
I've spent hours searching and find it hard to believe there is no other alternative.
Does anyone know of a good picture album/gallery widget for this phone?
Any help is appreciated.
Thank you,
--miguel

Hi all,
Just wondering what the custom ROM development scene is like for Nexus devices?
Are they available or does it get less support as people prefer stock Android
I understand that N5 will not have many ROMS at the moment, but what are peoples's predictions?
I have a Galaxy S2 at the moment, considering an upgrade to N5, and just wanna know what the activity of the scene is like for nexus devices?
Loads to browse through on this site.

Welcome to xda Ben... basically, dev support is likely to be huge... probably far more than a person can keep up with
Sweet, that's what i was hoping for!
Thanks for your help
If the Nexus 5 is like the Nexus 7 or Galaxy Nexus development sections there will be a ton of roms. Unless there is some sort of encryption with bootloader or kernel that makes a root exploit hard to achieve. We already have custom recovery so that is a good sign.
Hi guys, I just layed my 5S to the side for a Nexus 5, I use a Retina Macbook Pro with 10.9.2, I used an HTC One before the 5S, Its good to be back!, Well sound quality leaves alot to be desired but besides that, my BIGGEST PROBLEM, is that I cannot have screen wake up with notifications on the Nexus 5,
Also i would like to root my Nexus 5, and install a custom ROM
Since I don't know how on my Mac, can you guys help me out? Thanks in advance!
Also WHAT IS THE BEST ROM, Performance wise, Battery and quickness etc radio, I Want to get the most out of my Nexus 5... but also get the features I want
I can't live without screen waking up and showing notifications on lock screen like it does in iOS
also I wish this were louder!!

To unlock the bootloader and root, see here and here.
There is NO "best" ROM nor kernel. Which is best for you is your own personal opinion. There are a large variety to choose from, and the Nexus 5 is a developer device so you'll have to problem flashing to your heart's content.
As for lockscreen notifications, enable lockscreen widgets and try out Dashclock.

I'd suggest carbon ROM and the elementalx kernel. Carbon ROM is one of the most feature filled ROMs out there and includes lockscreen notifications. Although I'm sure other ROM's include it. Nimrodity's ROM comparison spreadsheet (Original thread) is a great resource to compare Roms with. I also suggest elementalx because of its massively improved battery life while sleeping or idling all the while not degrading performance (at least not to the degree to which I can detect).
Hope I was helpful!
Thanks! all i want is a good stable stock rom with ability to delete **** i dont need

Xposed framework allows for most custom ROM features without actually flashing a custom ROM. Check it out. +1 on elementalx, it's great though I haven't had as much success with the newer versions as the older ones.

I use notify me app from the play store, which does essentially the exact same thing that you are looking for to wake up the screen on notifications.
I love Xjparadroid ROM as it has halo, is really smooth and also got pie... Franco and Elemental x are my two favorite kernels.
After rooting, just flash the mod to increase the volume levels in the themes section. It does increase the volume by approx. 50%

I find Trinity much better than Elemental but that's just my opinion.

First of all welcome to the world of Open Source..!
We do not allow best ROM/Kernel threads on XDA. Developers do not like seeing their work compared to others along with the fact that everyone has their own opinions. What's best for you may not be what is best for someone else. Best advice is to head over to the development section try some out and see which best suits your needs.
