[Q] need for LOUD - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Here's the situation: I LOVE to mess with my phone, just got a s3 and haven't rooted or rom'd yet...but I started Rom'ing with my Fascinate back about 3 years ago. My needs are that I am hearing impaired and require LOUD and CLEAR audio, stable bluetooth to connect with my hearing aids, and a ROM that will have accessibility for hearing issues (hearing aid compatibility options, etc) Can any developers or users point me to a Rom that will help me? I am very demanding of my phone and of my hearing, so I am hoping to find something that lives up to my expectations!

This phone as well as others have accessibility options already without rooting. Since you want loud and clear audio you will need a sound mod which requires root. Bluetooth is pretty stable out the box.

I am hearing impaired and wear hearing aids as well. The best Rom I've found is liquid smooth (I'm currently on 2.37 build, which is android 4.3). I found cyanogen mod very difficult to hear...but that was some time ago, and I've since discovered xposed installer. That allows you to add modules for various hacks and tweaks (including sound)...So I don't think we are as restricted by roms anymore.
As a completely different, side note, you may want to check out http://www.maxvirtual.com/ I own a bone conduction bluetooth set up (called synapse) and I'm stoked to be getting my bone conduction hearing setup (called enhance). It's a life changer! Feel free to pm me if you want more info or have questions. I literally had gone for my second pre surgery consultation with the head and neck surgeon when I discovered this. I cancelled my surgery.

Also, synergy was no good for sound quality (but nice otherwise). Hyperdrive had other issues (GPS, mms), but that's since been updated a few times. There were a few others, but since I found liquid I kind of parked on it. Just trying to save you some trouble.

Viper4Android is the best sound mod combined with xposed should help you with what you looking for. Most touchwiz ROMs have both of them. Lastly please edit your opening post as it comes across as a ROM suggestion post which the moderators will close down.

I cannot speak from an accessibility standpoint, but I used Hyperdrive rom for a while and it had a 50% and 100% volume hack that works great. As was stated earlier, it did have issues with mms before, but the recent update really helped stability and makes the hack very useful.

This guy said it viper4audio is the way to go for loud n very good sound quality
Crtl+z

if you root and flash a rom you can edit a file which can make the speaker louder...but there is a limit before it does get distorted..im not sure where you can find this but i think with a little bit of searching you can find it

Wow! So many great responses...I forgot to check my notifications and when I did I saw all these. Thank you to everyone! I have lots to try now

Inspire 4G Volume Fix

Is it possible to take a stock kernel and fix just the volume without any other mods? This phone is perfect for the way I use a phone, except the volume is low. I wear hearing aids in both ears and having a little more volume would be great. I know there are custom kernels that have the audio boost in them, but they also have a lot of other things added to and I don't need any thing except the increased volume
capman231
Its possible, but what's the point if all the extra things help, but not hurt anything. Just don't use the overclock, you'll never even know besides the fact your phone will be faster and get better battery.
So dilligaf which one are u talking about
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
just ask one of the devs to compile you a stock kernel with only the audio boost. one of them i'm sure would be nice enough to do it. maybe a tiny donation would push them along.
Thanks fellows for the replys. I just want the stock kernel with nothing but the audio boost and as Roger suggested, I will PM a couple of the developers and see if they can do one for a "Donation". It shouldn't be a major challenge because several of them have it already in their Kernels.
capman231
Getting ready to compile, no donation required(unless you really want to)
Dilligaf your the $hit
Sent from inspire4G
here it is. stock, sound boost(all outputs, including headphones). 4.4.4 toolchain
let me know if its too much sound boost. its what im using in my latest kernel.
should still be a little faster than stock too.
dilligaf thank you and I will donate something to the cause. My only problem with the inspire is my hearing impairment (Hearing aids in both ears). I miss almost all of my calls and all of my E-Mail and text notifications. How much louder does your mod make the phone's notifications and ring tones? I hope it's a big improvement because I like this phone and want to keep it.
capman231
25% boost. Any higher and it may start getting distorted, dsp manager can maybe help a little with that, but you need to replace some libs for it to work. I'll make a zip if you want, I'm gonna do some testing with it myself.
edit- do you use any of the TTY or HAC options? if so, theres some sound settings i could increase for those that i saw in the kernel source.
With that much boost, if I can't hear it I won't never be able to hear it. Do you think it would ba smart to have the DSP just in case? Let me know what you find in your testing and I will download it when you get it tested.
capman231
The HAC doesn't work, HTC told me they know about it and it will be fixed in the Gingerbread update coming this quarter. The HAC works on an incoming call but the party on the other end can't hear me. Haven't tried TTY yet.
I am new to this, I downloader the kernel, now what?
I am new to this, I downloaded the sound fix, now what?
Flash it. If your that new, I suggest reading up.
I installed dsp manager and all it did was turn off all sound on my phone. Noone could hear me in calls and had no notification sounds at all. I had to do a full wipe and flash a different rom to get sound back cause it wouldnt come back with just a full wipe and factory reset with that current rom.
Sent from my Despire 4g using XDA App
Read this thread, I posted that if you install dsp manager, some libs have to be changed out or it won't work. It's just a couple posts above yours
Nothing against di11igaf, cause his rom's are great, but Inspired Saga is the loudest rom I've used.
Not sure what the HAC status is on that rom, but it is a Gingerbread rom from a Desire S.
thanks somuch for the kernal
would your sound boost work with something other than a stock rom?

[Q] Root = Audio Issues = Warranty replacement

First, thank you to all the developers. I have really enjoyed cutting my teeth and learning how to max out my HTC. I recently had to get a warranty replacement because the audio just got corrupted.
On my previous HTC I used the following
Bubby's Root/ S-off
Ran several different ROM's - HD REvo, LeeDroid, CWM etc.
Then used the S-On.exe and reinstalled the factory rom for warranty compliance.
I feel like my meddling is what caused the audio corruption.
I loved the speed and the hotspot benefits of rooting, but I am afraid to damage my new HTC. In your opinions, how can I root and minimize audio issues?
Thanks, you guys are great. I'll never be able to contribute at your levels, but I do donate.
Hands down easiest and safest way, period.

What about sound quality?
The way I rooted was easy enough, but the sound quality just deteriated from ROM to ROM
I run a business of my phone and cant afford to lose business over poor call wuality. My old HTC got so bad that people wouldnt talk to me on it, then the phone app would crash, or jump in and out of different output modes randomly (headset, handset, bluetooth etc)

You may have had special circumstances.
"Deteriorated from rom to rom" gives me the impression there might have been something else going perhaps with the hardware itself, a bad component that over time got progressively worse.
Not to mention there's usually an explanation for most of the radio/sound quality issues that people have run in to that are attributed to rom flashing.
I'm rooted, on a custom rom, as are many, many people here, without any sound issues as a result of the rooting process itself.
I used bubby's simple root, and used the stock rom that resulted from that process for a long time before moving to a custom rom.
I do understand being hesitant with a new replacement phone though, but I really think you'll be ok.
FWIW, there are people here who "meddle with their phone" multiple times a day with different roms. Your "meddling" is not what caused your issue, unless possibly you weren't properly wiping the phone prior to your subsequent rom flashes.

I hate to sound like prick but honestly you really should never hack a phone that is counted on like that . Imo, which doesn't mean much lol, sounds like you might want to invest in two phones. I know it sounds expensive but the way it sounds is that you might have caught the flashing bug that goes around xda or you wouldn't be here lol. I just know that no rom can be counted on 100% and should never be considered stable enough for something that you can't risk something going wrong.
Again, sorry to sound like a prick and hope I made sense I'm half a sleep lol

[Q] 2-way call recording

Hello folks.
I am curious if anyone knows of any regularly updated decent kernels / ROMs that have 2-way call recording capability? (Not recorded through the mic.)
As far as ROMs...Jellybean only please.

It will never be a kernel issue. This would be done through a ROM or an app.
None of the Jellybean ROM's for the Sensation currently have this as a standard option as far as I know.
Thanks for the response.
Are you sure though? I was under the impression that the kernel was the only thing that mattered.
Based on the information found in these threads:

...and others I have come across in the past.
These are quite old though. I would rather not use a super old kernel. =P
I realize that I will need an app to record phone calls. However if you have ever tried out apps that are designed to record calls on a sensation they only work when you use speakerphone (basically the mic records what the speakerphone pumps out). Last I tried most kernels were incapable of grabbing the audio data internally for some reason.
I think the reason was something along the lines of the initial developers did not include that functionality and it would be a lot of work to include after the fact, tons of extra code etc.
Also! I like your sig!

Well I'll be a son of a gun.....I guess I was wrong about the kernel not being involved. I knew the kernel controlled the audio at the very basic level, but I never realized it would have to be involved in sending that audio to another app.
DO NOT using one of those old kernels you linked though. They are for another phone. It will screw up your ROM and you'll have to restore a back up.
As far as I know all ICS/Sense based kernels can be used for 2WCR. For Gingerbread they needed a patch, but for ICS I think it comes enabled in the source code. Personally I use a Kernel from a banned dev, but I think you could use Faux or Bricked and have 2WCR. Don't worry about them not being updated, there is not much development you can do on a platform that had been out for so long (and I mean ICS 4.0.3).
For 4.1+ and AOSP I have no idea...

I didn't know that. Thanks a bunch!
Recently I had a bit of time on my hands (lack of time is most often my biggest problem ><) so I started trying out some ROMs to see if any had 2WCR. What I was looking for in order of importance: Jelly Bean, ROM that was upgradable to Pdroid 2.0/OpenPdroid, and 2WCR. I ended up using [ROM][CM-10.1][JB 4.2.1][KANG] NameLess Bean [05.02.2013] so far it's a great ROM. Doesn't bench quite as high as my last ROM. I plan on installing some of the performance / battery mods out there once I have been rocking this ROM a week or two and know which bugs it already has =P (so that I can know if any of the mods create bugs heh).
I ended up using the app CallRecorder (skvalex) after trying several other apps which didn't work so well. CallRecorder only has one problem I've noticed, the files it saves do not show up within the app. If you go to the saved directory they are all there and work fine though. /storage/sdcard0/voix by default.
Hopefully this post will be helpful for sensation users looking for 2WCR in the future. Thanks again papete!
good
good innovative feature
I use CallRecorder app too but its very hard to hear what other people are saying, you need to use speakerphone.
I really don't understand why is this feature not fully implemented on all android phones, i often forget what i talked with someone few minutes before, so i need to recheck.

One of the reasons it's not implemented on all phones is because it's illegal to record calls without consent in a lot of places.

Very Disappointed in Cyaonogenmod

Been using Cyanogenmod for a week now. Very dissapointed in the fact that my bluetooth audio sounds like AM radio. Also I get extremely bad echo during calls. Tried CM10 and 10.1. Both have the bluetooh issues.
Sure its a little bit faster. But, I rooted and installed a custom rom in hopes to IMPROVE me phone experience and I got just to opposite.
I'm considering going back to the rooted stock rom but I can't seem to find the link to the original latest verizon rooted rom. I didn't make a backup. Can anybody help me locating it?
On another note, I'm willing to try another custom rom if someone can vouch for it and ensure that there are no major bugs like CM10.
Should've bought an iPhone o_o but really the developers spend there personal time making these roms not for money but for us and themselves so if you're "disappointed" in them then make your own or try others, read threads and find out bugs before you flash.

Don't use bluetooth so can really comment about it, however there are some great touchwiz roms in the Android Development section I stay away from the Original Android Development just because I have found too many issues.
As for some suggestions Synergy is pretty cutting edge though you may have to play with voltages if you install ziggy's kernal. Clean rom is another nice option. Hyperdrive and Delta have also run solid for me. Currently running Beans 12 and it is almost everything I can ask for, if a 5x6 launcher were included it would be perfection for me.
I would say to install twrp as your recovery, if you haven't done so, and install a rom and run it for a few days and see how it handles. Make a backup, twrp lets you rename them so you can easily restore to your favorite rom, and install something else for a few days. Also you may want to try different kernels as well, KT runs good for me but there are many more to choose from.
Finally just remember that each user runs different apps and has different needs and that while we all hqve the same phone minor variatikns n hardaware and just the way the rom flashes can have different effects such as bluetooth audio interferance or poor battery life or app abc will not work for one person but another has none of tjese problems.
Good luck and just remember that the perfect rom is out there waiting for you. You just need to flash like a madman until you find it.
Check out mastamoon's CM 10.1 rom. His latest 2-28 rom is near perfect. BT audio sounds great, signal handoff isn't as good as TW, but it's good enough as a daily driver. I've had little problems with it, to the point i don't even notice it. Try that and your mind will change.

A. If you have issues with a ROM either post in the ROMs thread or in the Q&A section. Not start a thread in General bashing a ROM developers spent countless hours on. Just a respect thing.
B. Go to original development look for yourself, see what has features you like.
At this point, my phone is just one big tweak.
I'm sorry you're getting echo in calls and problems with BT. Would probably be solvable if you had asked since echo has been fixed for a long time.

I think its funny, this guy has a valid complaint about how CM 10 is making his Bluetooth sound bad, and weather it's true or not, members just bash the $hit out of him, lol.
To the OP, if you don't like the ROM or something is glitchy, I've done two things in the past when I've experienced this.
1. make a backup (I use my backup root), and then boot into recovery, wipe (cache, davlik, system, and Format), then reflash your ROM.. OR
2. Find a new ROM and try that out. Currently I'm running the latest CleanRom with Morphology 1.5, and Ac!d audio..I have no issues with sound or bluetooth.
I hope that helps man, good luck and remember. Keep Calm and Flash Roms.
There are at least two threads where a total noob can seek help to fix the two issues he has, and one more where he can read how to fix his issues. Perhaps there are better ways to address his concerns?

To everyone else I am pretty new to this particular medium (xda forums) but looking at almost every topic I've seen I gather one very singular feeling. Please xda take away the "post new topic" option. Its pretty obvious that every single question that can possibly be asked has already been answered. So why ask any question. They are apparently evil and the world wide web has only limited space so lets please not clog it by asking a question twice *gasp*. There is a section for every device and build for developers only that by all means should be kept as streamlined and clutter free as possible but in general forum questions should not be so vehemently discouraged.

I am also disappointed in the CM rom's performance...but I think the blame (for my issues, at least) resides totally with Samsung.
The rom itself works great, but when you're in the middle of a town and everyone else in the restaurant has 4g and you've only got 1x (not even 3g)...well...that's an issue.
Wish they would release the friggin RIL so I could just stick with a 4.2 rom. Grrrr!

I don't know if this is the right place to post this or not. I recently had to return my phone to stock because my phone needed to be re provisioned to activate it again. This happens when you flash multiple roms apparently. I got my phone working and commenced to do everything to flash back to CM 10.1. I noticed I can make calls however, my 3g data will not come up. So, I have flashed back to stock and everything works fine. Anyone know of a tip that might resolve this issue. I was using the nightly from yesterday.

Me too, my only real issues with CM (or any non-TW ROM) stem from the fact that the radio interface has not been released by Samsung and therefore the reverse-engineered AOSP RIL will probably never be as good as stock. It's not limited to signal strength issues, you also can't take full advantage of the phone's World Phone capabilities with a non-Touchwiz ROM. Unfortunately for me, that's a deal-breaker, my phone needs to work as a phone first and foremost and if Touchwiz ROMs have a better and more functional radio, I have to stick with that.
I have been using the latest nightlies of Cm and they have been running great. phone works great except in some areas where I can't get a signal with TW roms either.
I had CM running on my Dinc2. Since getting the S3, I've been running CleanROM with mods. (when I was on CR5.6 I was using KindaCrap Mods and now that I'm on CR 6.0 I"m using Andy Bones' AOSP Theme, which gives it a lot of the feel of CM).

In need of some help..

I am a new developer(trying it out). I have a basic rom that i have not released yet called AVID ROM. It is very basic based off of Scroslers rooted base. Basically im trying to find ways to add things and take away things..such as add: lidroids 14 toggles, aroma installer, audio enhancements like ac!d or viper, different battery icons...and take away things like: ongoing wifi connection, notice of turning off data, location icon..things like that. Im not trying to make people do things fot me i would just like to be pointed in the right direction. As i said im brand spanking new at this so i dont really consider myself a dev yet but would like to once i know the ins and outs. If anyone could help me id be much appreciated. Thank u in advance. Stay Avid!
