Hi all,
I just updated my Nexus 5 to 4.4.1. After exchanging a few emails with a friend of mine, I noticed that gmail wasn't displaying emojis properly. When composing a message, I can input emoji no problem and they appear fine but after I send the email, all the recipient and I can see is something like this:
Code:
&#xxxxxx;
where xxxxxx is some kind of emoji number. Downgrading gmail, downgrading google keyboard or using the iWinn emoji keyboard gave me the same result. Downgrading to 4.4 fixed the problem. I'd much rather stay on 4.4.1 because of the camera improvements. Has anyone else come across this problem? Does anyone have any ideas how to fix it?
Thanks!
I'm having this problem, too, on my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 (2013 version) since the 4.4.2 update. I can read other people's emoji (from iPhone) but can't send. When I look in my sent box, the emoji are broken there (#&xxxxxx), too.
edit: appeard to be still working in my twitter app, but not the gmail app
update:
It appears that certain emoji work and others do not, for example I tried a random set of 10-ish:
???????
Those two in the middle are the working ones.
The "source" (go into gmail website and hit "original message" on the email) looks like the following:
??=E2=99=8B=E2=99=89????=E2=
=9B=AA?
Going to try to downgrade to 4.4 probably, if this doesn't get fixed somehow... or try CM.

Hey all, I'm having problems with emoji through hangouts on my Sprint Galaxy S4. Sending them even to myself, I cannot see a majority of the emoji. When I send emoji to my girlfriend (iPhone), she just gets blank squares. Anything she or my other friends send to me appear as the diamond with the question mark shape. It's not just as issue with Android and iPhone, since I tried sending them to myself too and had the same issue. This happens to me both through Google Hangouts and GO Sms with the emoji plugin.
I tried to search this issue online, but it seems as if no one else is having issues with emoji using Hangouts.
I'm hoping to be able to use Hangouts with emoji, as I'm switching over to hangouts as my main sms
I attached a screen shot of my issue
I'm hoping somebody has already answered this queston but, I'm still concerned about the SMS on my Nexus 5. Ever since I've had my Nexus 5 the emoji doesn't work when sending it to other users, whether it'd be iPhone or Android users. Some of my contacts csn recieve my emoji's and some can't. Is there a fix for this? I'm runnin the latest PA with PA's kernel
Hello all,
For starters, some preliminaries:
ROM: ViperRom 3.2.1
Firmware: Latest (4.4.4)
Kernel, radios: Stock
Has anyone been having trouble with group MMS beyond the Hangouts app? The Hangouts app works like silk when it comes to group MMS - I can send/receive to all my friends (regardless of whether they have a smartphone or cell phone), it can play GIFs within the thread and it doesn't deliver messages at the wrong time (a 5:09pm message gets delivered before a 5:06 pm message). The problem with Hangouts is that it is slow and has odd kinks that drive me insane (when you send a message it doesn't show it unless you exit and reenter the message thread, three second delay to display contact when searching for number). The glaring issue is that it is an app that I simply do not use for it's native purpose - which is to create Hangouts and not use SMS. Nobody I know uses Hangouts, so I only use it for SMS.
I have tried literally every SMS app there is - Handcent, GOSMS, 8SMS, Hello, Textra, ChompSMS, Evolve SMS, Messaging (stock KitKat modified), HTC Messaging.
These apps all have a consistent problem - I cannot communicate with my cell phone friends in group chats. They receive blank messages and cannot read my replies. I've tried modifiying my APN but I am unable to create a new profile in Settings>Networks>APN. This is honestly strange to me because Hangouts works so flawlessly compared to all these other apps. Any suggestions?

Have you tried Verizon Message+ ? That is what I am using and works well for me. I'm usually not a fan of Verizon Software, but the messaging app has a lot of options and doesn't seam to lag.

I tried that app. Super clunky, definitely looking for a better alternative.
Interesting.
I have been running Viper also ( until yesterday actually).
I have been using Handcent and group messaging seems to work fine. At least no one has told me otherwise.
I do notice, with Handcent that from time to time SMS/mms messages seem to get hung up for quite a few minutes( see the spinning wheel next to message). I always though that was a network issue. You have me thinking otherwise now..
I have never tried hangouts for SMS. I might give it a whirl.

Super clunky, okay. That's one way to describe it. lol. But did it work for group messaging? Have you tried a different rom? Viper is an international rom that has changes made for Verizon to work. Maybe there is a setting or library missing from Viper. Have you asked in that thread to see if anyone else has the same issues on Verizon?

I used CleanRom before this...really have no interest in switching ROMs but I see what you mean about it being international. I always had used Hangouts without compliant but it took a serious speed hit when it got updated/I updated to Viper
Tried many of them and constantly been sticking with Textra.

+1 on Textra. I had group messaging problems too until this app. There is an option under settings to use MMS for group messaging. I think it's off by default. Try switching it on and see how it goes. It fixed my probs, particularly when texting to/from iDevices.

Does textra have gif support in the message threads?

UPDATE: Some of the issues I have were actually due to me disabling animations in Developer Settings. Once I re-enabled animations, the issues with Hangouts "hanging" at the second to last message, rather then displaying my newly sent message, went away. The app also seems much smoother on the whole. I guess that disabling animations is a bigger detriment than benefit when it comes to Hangouts.
I still have the same group MMS issues in apps other than Hangout (people with basic feature phones only receive blank lines, rather than text). Hangouts remains the only texting app that works flawlessly with group MMS. It's a shame, because Textra is such a beautiful app.
I got my son a Moto G 3rd Gen a few months ago and he's really pleased with it apart from it not sending or receiving emojis. Instead of an emoji the message is just blank.
He's using the stock messaging app and SwiftKey keyboard.
I've Googled and found references to changing the SMS encoding method to auto but can't find this setting anywhere in the phone.
Any help appreciated, he's only nine and emojis are an important thing in his social life
No replies, bummer

Can he successfully put emojis in any app aside from the stock sms, like skype or social media postings or emails? I know that for a long time, skype would only let you use the built-in smileys.
Is it possible your phone provider is treating emojis as images (which makes them mixed media messages, no longer SMS)? I'm pretty sure TracPhone does this, or used to. If
you haven't included mms in his phone's plan, that would maybe be the problem.
If that's not it, maybe try a different SMS app?
HTH
Or even try stock keyboard in messaging app?

Folks, am I just the only one that cannot use Pushbullet with SMS sync?
I have tried all possible settings without success
Any advice?
I'm having the same issue. Googled around but haven't found any solutions. All permissions are set as should be.
Exact same issue, stopped working on Mate 8 immediately after Nougat update. I suppose this is related to the app itself...
Same here. I'm a pro user so I emailed support. Will report what I hear.
I read somewhere (I thought here) that Pulse Messenger was working, it is not - for me at least. I really like this phone/phablet but no sms sync to chrome is killing me.... I imagine I could root and flash a rom but EMUI 5 has actually grown on me.
From what I've been able to find, it's the way Huawei handles sms messaging. The only program that I've found to work for pc messaging is MYSMS and you have to make it your default sms app for it to work.
Pulse does work. I installed it on a flight and we all know how great airplane internet is Anyway, I resync'ed my messages and all is well.
PB got a couple updates over the last couple weeks and the behavior is changed for the better. Not perfect but much better and usable (for me at least). Messages are now sync'ing to my device but when I reply from the chrome extension I don't see my reply on my phone but the recipient does get it. If I reply from the phone, I do see my message on the chrome extension.
textra works great for sms on my mate 9, also try to wipe cache and reset your default messaging app that may help,

Have you heard anything?
I'm having the same problem on my Honor 8. It's not just a pushbullet thing because other apps I use to text (Tasker and Coffee) also don't appear in my texting app (Textra). I'm on 6.0.

I confirm, it works again for me as well.
Being able to see within the messaging app the messages sent via web is another issue, most likely due to the messaging app itself. I use gosms and I've never been able to see the messages sent by "third-party" in the app. It should work with Textra tho.
Yes, they acknowledged hearing from other Huawei owners but nothing firm on a fix. Like you said, it appears to be a Huawei issue. I think the big unknown is, is this a bug or working as designed (for some unknown reason). Outside of this issue, I absolutely love this phone but will move on to something else in a couple years unless this gets fixed.

Is there any update on this? I've been having the same issue, tried Join, Pushbullet, and MightyText. On the SMS app side, tried the OEM app, Google Messages, and Textra. No matter what, SMS sent from the browser do not appear in the SMS app (but the recipient does receive them so that's good). Ugh...
Edit: yeah Pulse seems to work completely - I can see SMS's sent from Chrome/Pulse in the Pulse SMS app and other SMS apps. Guess they found a work-around for this
Hi,
Having same issue here with P9, mighty text or Pushbullet. Messages sent via PC don't show in SMS app, whatever app I use.
Haven't tried Pulse yet...
Do others have solved this with Pulse?
