Where do you get the replacement?
Any idea if anyone has found instructions on how to replace just the glass? Already had it replaced once via the insurance but don't want to drop that much cash again to fix the glass. With this edge to edge glass breaking a lot, I have a feeling I'll be replacing it more than once.
If anyone knows the easiest way to remove just the glass (I don't need to fix the screen) please share. It would be much appreciated. I'll also post a YouTube so others can see it because there isn't much info of this online.
Thanks guys!
Oh and to answer your question, you can get a digitizer on eBay for about $35.
A quick google search turned up this;
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/mo...ltra-droid-mini-xt1080-disassembly-video.html
Cool thing that google.com, it finds almost anything!
edit: The video author says in the comments that the screen is adhered to the glass, and even tho he disassembles phones often for these videos, he would not want to try to replace the glass only.

Look in my thread and you find your answer. I bought my digitizer from here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Digitizer-LCD-Display-Screen-f-Samsung-Galaxy-S-i9000-/120595111860?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item1c14075fb4
thank u man
i will check this digitizer immediately could you say how long do you take in get it home ??
and how was the quality sorry for make in new thread i just was looking here but didn't find nothing about the broken screen
yeah, just do it yourself
Same Problem
I had the same experience my phone fell from hands from 3ft height on the ground and it developed crack not as many as yours, one single crack across the face. I just wanna know has your digitizer arrived .and when your screen cracked was it working normally ,because mine is working all right just the crack is there.
U have to pay ~50 .. ~60$
Replacing your own screen... you guys are pretty amazing.
hey i just orden mine in about 10 working day i will get it and you have to orden the full combo cuz the digitizer dont come alone for the moment
LCD and Digitizer Assembly Combo for Samsung i9000 Galaxy S
if you keep this thread you will get bester experience
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=745262
I just noticed that cnn.cn now has the SGS digitizer on sale.
repairs
I will fix any broken galaxy s screen for £120 or buy the broken phone off you for £150.
The Part is preety much the whole phone you only save the mainboard and backcase.
the vib motor speaker all that sort of stuff is part of the screen.
So if you are buying just the glass or screen of ebay they are fake parts are void the warranty, also the quality will be very different.

My screen is broken to, but the LCD is not. The phone works in 100%, even touch, but the glass is broken. I am not sure, is the digitizer everything that I need or do I have to buy LCD+digitizer to repair it.

They come as 1 part, so you'll need to replace both.
My LCD is busted underneath the gorrilla glass... I have searched everywhere for a replacement but can't find one. Does any one know where I can find a LCD screen?

How is it broken under the GG? what happenned to it? If it's just a defective LCD(Not Damaged) it should be covered under warranty.
I dropped it on concrete.. the LCD screen crack on the top right corner.

Send it to ASUS I doubt they will charge you and even if they it should be pretty cheap, under $100 if it does cost anything. If its under warranty they may even replace the whole tablet for free.

I thought that they covered that. If they don't I might have to buy an after market warranty.
ok so I dropped my one s and my screen quit working (its all black). It still registers when I touch it though (I can still unlock it and everything) does this mean I just need to replace the screen? Or could there be more to it than that? If you need more information just ask. Thanks in advance for your help!!!
EDIT: There's a crack in the screen from the drop. But it's so thin it's almost impossible to see.

I had the same issue. the easiest option is to buy the LCD/digitizer with the Glass, but the cost is around $120.
the cheaper option is for you to separate the glass for the LCD/digitizer yourself and just order the glass yourself $5
that's what I went and did and it didn't go so well for me, broke the LCD while taking the shattered glass off.

I have purchased this, as the LCD and touch are working fine. In your opinion, would a mobile technician be able to handle the procedure to separate the glass lens and replace it ?
I'm sure a technician can, but taking off the glued glass is a lengthy process.. took me 2 hours.
Hello all, looking to replace the digitizer at some point. I have a lot of scratches already. Does anyone know if the digitizer part alone would be sufficient, or is it fused to the LCD thereby requiring LCD be replaced as well?
Figured someone here knew by now, can never trust the eBay sellers, hehe!

Is this just a dumb question or has nobody done it?
Have replaced an ipad 2 screen in the past, I always thought the two were separable. However, more recently I was told this wasn't possible with a particular phone screen that was cracked, the IP5S, and that the assembly replacement was required as they were 'fused'. I kind of figured he might be telling the truth as the largest quantity of item being sold was assembly (lcd and digitizer) and not the super cheap digitizer only. Maybe I was bamboozled? lol. Anyway, I hope in the case of the Idol 3, a digitizer replacement is enough. Bueller?

The touch screen and LCD digitizer ARE fused, do not be scammed by sellers on eBay. I've completely tore down my 1st idol 3 (which had a cracked screen)due to curiosity. It was really easy to teardown

thanks buddy! so i guess that means the LCD/digitizer assembly is a requirement, fudge... little expensive. of course for a crack a no brainer, but guess I will just learn to love the scratches, lol. cheers.

When you were doing the teardown, were you able to see how easy/hard it was
to change the battery? Several months from now, a bunch of us may need to know
how to do this.
(OP, sorry for off topic)

Yes, the battery is only held down by glue and a flex cable. Its very easy to remove
Over the weekend I dropped my mix 2s and have cracked the bottom of my screen glass.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and fixed this. I have purchased a new glass on eBay: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/263620735738?ViewItem=&item=263620735738
I am planning to take it to a professional repair shop.
Is it likely that they will be able to separate the glass from the LCD and glue on this replacement? Is there any risk of this going wrong and my screen from acting weird afterwards?
No, it is in fact very unlikely they'll be able to separate them.
It will be more expensive but you'll have to get an lcd display and glass assembly all together.

According to this: Ali Express
LCD Only: If the image under the glass is broken and the touch panel is NOT then you only need an LCD.
Touch Panel aka Digitizer: If the top touch panel or aka glass top is cracked or broken but the image under it is fine then you only need the Touch Panel.
Complete Screen with Touch Panel and LCD: If the top touch panel is broken and the LCD image is either black liquid or cracked you need a complete screen.

According to that; If the glass is cracked, I only need the Digitizer replaced.
I am happy to get the whole thing, its just I have already ordered a Digitizer and thought this was all I needed. I could be wrong.
Any recommendation on the type of screen I should purchase for best results?

Hi i managed to change my whole lce by myself. Its quite hard only for heating the glue and opening everything. There is no guide on internet so i just follow mi mix 2 guide. I bought from aliexpress, 60 euro, claimed to be original, checked its JDI from cti app, and very good quality, color also very good, nothing weird, glass also oleophobic.
Any update on this? I'm in the same situation, front glass is cracked but phone otherwise fine. Replacement is only $10, but can just the glass even be replaced?
I just bought the whole LCD/Digitizer for $60, not even going to attempt to separate just the glass

Hey emanuel.caesar,
thanks for your helpful post. A few further questions from my side:
which lcd did you choose exactly? Are you still satisfied with the quality? And the last question Does the video guide for the Mi Mix 2 work for the Mi Mix 2s as well or are many things different? Thank you in advance for a short reply.
Hello,
Is not a good idea to try to just replace de LCD screen. I did this operation many times in the past and I can confirm that's a long operation (~1h30), there's a lot of risks that you break the digitizer and for a good result, you need LCD glue and a UV machine.
So, I think it's a better idea to replace all the screen: LCD + Digitizer.
Any suggested YouTube videos to replace the glass + LCD + digitizer?
Looking at a used phone with broken glass. It's like $10 for glass or $32 for the whole set and if I recall last time I had glass swapped it was like $60 labor and no guarantee the LCD wouldn't break. I'm pretty technical have repaired plenty of phones Android and iPhone. Anyone have a good link for removing the LCD / digitizer / glass unit? Is this like the Samsung where you need to use a blow dryer to heat the adhesive to get it off? Or like an iPhone where you just take screws out and pry the panel out? Much appreciated
