Rom Hosting: Where to host my rom (opinions)?

The two most popular choices I see here for hosting Roms and other files that can not be saved to the ftp seems to be Rapidshare or Megaupload. I personally would like to see some more people look into www.putstuff.com
A few positives I see compared to the other two are much faster download speeds, no download limit, no wait downloads.

Dont take it the wrong way. But are you affiliated with them in any way.

Torrents, rapidshare, and putstuff would be my votes. I can't stand MegaUpload (I can't tell you how many times I've clicked a link for something there and wait the 1 minute or whatever it is, only to be told I'm maxed (when I haven't downloaded anything) and I will NOT use their bar tool).
Torrents are very easy IMO
Rapidshare I can tollerate now that I found I can put http://anonym.to/? infront of the URL and it will work through my VPN (this does not work with megaupload).
Putstuff seems fine. I was sort of wondering the same thing if trojan9x has something to do with them. No biggie, but was something I was starting to wonder.

I only found them about a week ago when trying to host a file for someone here (the faria 3.3 camera patch). It worked flawlessly so I wanted to share it since I never had seen anyone use it here before.

I vote for every host other than Rapidshare...It's ip filtering and waiting time kills me...

SkyFire Browser Beta... Fully loaded PC desktop Mobile Browser

Engadget did a small feature on this really wicked awesome looking browser. It has the Kaiser featuring this browser. You can find that article here:

Oh and so you dont wonder I didnt have a beta code and I signed up. I got this email back from them, "Thank you for signing up for the Skyfire private beta program. We will notify you when the beta version of Skyfire mobile web browser is ready for a test drive. We look forward to your feature suggestions, troubleshooting tips and ideas. Even with the early beta release, you'll be browsing the web on your phone just like you do on your PC."
I hope we dont have to wait to long for the actual ability to download this broswer looks cool.
OH and FYI:
From their Privacy Policy:
"Once you have subscribed to and begin to use the Browser, we will collect information about your use of the Browser on your Device (“Browser Usage Information”). Browser Usage Information includes such information as which websites and programs you access or download on your Device, how long you visit such websites and use such programs, your activities (such as products purchased or advertisements viewed) on such websites, which specific areas of a website or webpage you use and for how long, websites you bookmark, search terms you use, referring/exit pages, browser and platform types, the geographic location in which your Device is being used and information you provide on third party websites. All of your Browser Usage Information is stored by Skyfire under an automatically generated, random identification number (“ID Number”) that will not be associated with or linked to your Personal Information. In other words, when you use our browser, we track everything you do, and assign an "anonymous" ID number to that information. And oh, by the way, the "anonymous" ID number may be linked to your identity.

I got the message on my phone tonight to load the SkyFire beta and I did. It is indeed very quick and responsive. One the plus side, it gives the entire page formatted in the shape of the screen. When you tap something to expand it, however, it seems to expand around the spot you touched, so in some texts the borders go out of the screen. Opera mini seems to expand but also format things a bit at the same time. Zoom is limited to two steps, in and out. Overall, pretty good impressions so far, and it does not seem to interfere with any other programs.

Me too. Grr, I hope I get it soon, I'm getting frustrated using the other browsers, knowing this is coming out.

Netfront 3.5 is out btw.

Did you guys check out the just released Access Netfront 3.5 beta... remember Netfront!!? and their lost-in-space 3.5 version. Well its out today.

Skyfire Browser
I got this today. I thought I'd share it with yall.
By the way, I'm using Netfront 3.5 right now and it's great.
Both browsers are nice, i'll give an update on them after a few days.

i get the system authorization invalid..
i dont get how they can tell if the beta was sent to me yet or not, wiered..
i guess ill just have to wait

this browser still has a ways to go, but it's a great 1st step.

it definitely has a ways to go. feels slow & unresponsive to me. plus it's server side rendering through a proxy and i don't want them to know if i'm looking at bigbootybutts.com or tracking my experience to target ads at me. I'll wait for the new opera.

wow. and it can play YouTube videos all by itself. not that I care, but I am amazed.

[Q] Verizon blocking File serving websites?

I was wondering if anyone encountered a problem with downloading files form file serving websites like rapidshare and megaupload.
I recently downloaded a file around 300mb off of megaupload using my 4G since my Wifi internet was too slow at the time, and now I cannot download anything from megaupload through my 4G anymore. It works fine using 3G or my Wifi connection. The webpage would load with the countdown timer and everything seems fine. When clicking on the download link a dialogue box pops up with a save option, but once i get pass that, the download doesnt start. It just stalls with "Waiting for Connection" Tried it with the stock browser, Dolphin Browser, and Boat Browser but none of them work. Tried clearing cache and history as well.
is verizon blocking these websites?
Any idea on how to get my 4G working on these servers again?

I have a RapidShare account and I used to download all the time off there and megaupload as well. I haven't been able to download from those for several months. Mediafire still works though. Oh forgot to say RS and MU download fine when tethered to my laptop.

I noticed this as well. I think they have some sort of software monitoring going on. Possibly examining the packets as some have said. I did a number of tests of larger downloads from the phone and tethered. My results were mixed. As a large download starts it downloads at full bandwidth, most of the time. Then at some point before it finishes the connection is cut off or dropped in speed. This happened about 7 out of 10 times. I would bet they have something monitoring large or max bandwidth use and then cut the cord. Just my guess from testing the download reliability.

You can long press the download button and it should say something like "save link as". I don't think it has anything to do with Verizon cockblocking you, but everything to do with how mobile browsers handle MU.

Torrent ROM Downloads

Downloaded CM 7.2 RC1 today and found the torrent they posted. How would people here feel about torrents for ROM's on XDA? Could sure speed up things for people when a new ROM is posted.

With the way upload sites are nowadays, I'm game for anything.

I wouldn't mind either it probably would be a lot faster

Im unfamilar with torrents. Do they work similar to on a linux system where you can enter a command and pull from someones github?

I agree, Id like to see some torrents. but from experience, you would probably need to have a good amount of seeders to have good DL speeds

Yes this is true this would only work for the Hot top ROM's and only if people got into the game with it. I do hope some of the Dev's Jump in I would seed all the top ROM's right now with permission if given. This is not to replace the normal download links just to give people more options when sites like hotfile are dog slow or can't be reached.

I would love this. Not sure how to make one though. I use FrostWire (no, I don't download illegal music, don't worry ) for my torrents. They really do help.

Second this, i find torrents much easier expecially when internet/os is shaky. And UTorrent uses soooo much less memory than chrome

TL;DR: It basically lets you download the ROM faster than a conventional http:// download. You would have to use a torrent program, such as uTorrent or BitTorrent.
Also, to answer your question...no.

Torrent Fu from the market had been rock solid for quite a while. The remote login setting can be extremely can be handy when your on the move.

Am I the only one for which this site has become almost unusable lately?

The number of ads and scripts (flash, java, whatever) on each page makes my browser slow to an absolute crawl. They can take upwards of 30 seconds to complete (or give the "a script on this page is taking too long to load" message. Until that point, I can't scroll or do anything in any of my browser windows. And this happens on every page load. Every page of every thread on the site.
Do you think having 3 animated Comcast ads viewable on the page at the same time makes me more likely to click on it? The developer of this site might want to take a step back and evaluate how the ads are impacting the use of the site.
I know this is probably better or worse depending on which browser you're using, and how old your computer is, but it seems ridiculous. I don't know of another site on the web that has this significant of an impact on my browsing performance.
Just food for thought... All this is really encouraging people to do is run adblock and never see or click on any of the ads on the site. With adblock enabled, the site behaves like it should, and like all of the other sites on the web.

Have you tried different theme versions ? The xda 2013 beta ran slow for me as well, but changing it back to xda 2010 sped the site up by a significant amount. May of been placebo and me resisting change but either way it worked for me.

Use Firefox and download adblock plus problem solved. What's the issue?
As far as ads go, hate em or love 'em, people gotta' make money from them.

Just like the post above use Firefox with ad block plus and element hiding helper for abp.

I'm aware of these options as solutions. However, should they really be necessary? As a web developer myself, I leave ads enabled in my browser because I have been compensated for people clicking on my ads in the past. But requiring your users to enable an ad/script blocker in order to be able to effectively use the site is pretty ridiculous. I guess I'm just venting about the sheer number of ads/scripts on this site in hopes that something may be done about it to make it more usable for those people that don't block ads.
I view this site on several computers (several OSes/browsers) almost every day. It is completely usable on some of them, and unbearable on others. I'm sure there are plenty of people out there (perhaps the people responsible for the site) that think the site performs fine. It does on some platforms. However, I want them to be aware that it doesn't perform well on all platforms. After posting this thread, I timed the point where I clicked a link, and when I was able to scroll the page (because the browser was hung). It took 17 seconds between the time the page started to load, and the time the browser came back to life. All but about 2 seconds of that was waiting for ads/scripts to settle down. The content of the page loaded almost immediately, but the flash ads hung the browser completely for almost 15 seconds.
I guess what is most concerning is how much worse it seems to have gotten within the last month or so. I'm not sure why that is (different ads, more ads?), but it has gotten noticeably worse.
