[Q] Issues sideloading KOT49E - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried via both adb and doing directly throught TWRP and I keep getting E:Error executing updater binary in zip.
Help anyone?

what version of twrp are you on? have you done anything to the build.prop?
i'm assuming, since you didnt specify, that you're stock, rooted w/custom recovery only.

Bigxie has a flashable rooted version here just flash in recovery.

Make sure the sha1 checksum of your zip matches with the filename. Never flash anything w/o verifying the checksum of the file.

Unable to flash roms

I am working with Skyrocket I727R (the rogers phone), and have installed LiquidSmooth 4.1.2 which I must say works very well. I just wanted to try another rom and update to JB 4.2.2.
I thought when I could not flash JellyBeer and Paranoid Android getting error 7 that it was due to the Assert line in the updater-script. But after removing the Assert Line, it still would not flash. I also found out I cannot flash any of the Roms. I am using TWRP 2440. which I had to install through Odin as the TWRP.zip file would not flash properly with CWM recovery. It said it completed successfully but on reboot nothng would happen, so I had to install the TWRP.tar through ODIN. Could it be my SD card, or a problem with recovery? Should I try a different version of TWRP?
Thanks for any help.
The twrp version you're using is very old. New roms won't flash on it. The latest is 2.5.x.x

Use the goo manager app to install twrp. Yours is old as dirt.

I updated TWRP using Goo manager as suggested. I tried installing Revolt which does not have an assert line. It failed. Error with updater-binary.
Tried installing Beanstalk (newest version). Also had error with update-binary. Then I edited the updater-script removing the assert line. Eureka, it worked.

Cannot update to 4.4.2

Hey,
I got my OTA update yesterday, but it failed with the helpful message 'error'. After a reboot the system, still on 4.4, update now says 'up to date' and I cannot trigger the OTA update again.
I tried installing the update manually in TWRP, but that tells me there's an MD5 issue (no MD5) and then error executing updater binary in zip, then error flashing zip then failed. I've redownloaded the zip from phandroid and droid-life.
Anyone else having problems?
M.

See my thread in general discussion, it's very easy if you have twrp installed

[Q]Can't flash any kernel...

Yes, I am unlocked and rooted. Running carbon 4/1 nightly atm and using KTK but whenever I try to flash a new kernel I get an error. In TWRP it says "Error flashing update binary" and in CWM I get Status Error 7. Both are latest versions and the kernels are for my version of Android as well and the downloads did download successfully. Just got no clue what is happening.
U can use SU to update ur binary. I also recommend to have the latest twrp (2.6.3.1. I read that 7.0 ppl having trouble with backups) or cwm recovery

Updated my SU binary and still getting the same error. "Error executing updater binary"
I guess I can try CWM

Tried it in CWM. Got status error 7.

Do a clean install. Factory reset format. Then flash rom and different kernel

[Q] Having trouble flashing 5.0

So I am running 4.4.4 and want to flash 5.0.
I had xposed installed, but I uninstalled it to try the update. The only system files I changed was the "Volume Boost", which I also reverted back to stock for the update. Once I boot into my custom recovery (TWRP) and try to flash the 5.0 update, it fails:
Code:
Updating partition details...
Installing '/sdcard/Download/c1a33561be84a8a6a7...
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
mount: failed to mount /dev/block/platform/msm_...
Package expects build fingerprint of google/ham...
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/sdcar...
Updating partition details...
FAILED

You have to use the stock recovery and adb sideload the ota. I'd flash the system, boot, cache, and recovery images from 4.4.4. Then sideload the ota zip

5.0.1 OTA?

just got the update alert on my nexus 5
Since I installed 5.0 is it safe to just take the OTA and re root or do you have to restore to stock recovery and all that jazz again?
It won't apply unless you're 100% stock.

You could just grab a stock 5.0.1 zip that's more than likely floating around. Someone always releases one, usually with root. Just don't forget the modem and kernel.
I looked for one an hour nor two back for someone. Think there will be one soon, but not yet that in could find but yeah, waiting for that is the best option
5.0.1 update
N/A
What is so different now that it needs to be stock for updates? Is it the new file system?

The update updates in blobs, not complete files. So if there is anything modified or missing it fails. That includes the recovery, system, kernel and radio.

So if I flashed 4.4.2 radio on 5.0 earlier that could cause the update to fail?

Hi.
I'm trying to apply 5.0.1 OTA file to my Nexus 5.0.0 (rooted with SuperSU).
When upgrading from 4.4.4 to 5.0.0, I had to flash stock recovery over TWRP to be able to apply 5.0.0 from 4.4.4 OTA file.
So I made the same now :
- reflash stock recovery from 5.0.0 stock
- upgrade adb to 1.0.32
But when I try to sideload OTA ZIP file, upload stop at 60% and I have this error :
Code:
"/system/bin/install-recovery.sh" has unespected contents.
E:Error in /sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
I have to reflash system.img from 5.0.0 stock too ? I won't loose any data unless I flash userdata.img file, right ?
Thanks for your help.
