5.0.1 OTA? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just got the update alert on my nexus 5
Since I installed 5.0 is it safe to just take the OTA and re root or do you have to restore to stock recovery and all that jazz again?

It won't apply unless you're 100% stock.

You could just grab a stock 5.0.1 zip that's more than likely floating around. Someone always releases one, usually with root. Just don't forget the modem and kernel.

I looked for one an hour nor two back for someone. Think there will be one soon, but not yet that in could find but yeah, waiting for that is the best option

5.0.1 update
N/A

What is so different now that it needs to be stock for updates? Is it the new file system?

The update updates in blobs, not complete files. So if there is anything modified or missing it fails. That includes the recovery, system, kernel and radio.

So if I flashed 4.4.2 radio on 5.0 earlier that could cause the update to fail?

Hi.
I'm trying to apply 5.0.1 OTA file to my Nexus 5.0.0 (rooted with SuperSU).
When upgrading from 4.4.4 to 5.0.0, I had to flash stock recovery over TWRP to be able to apply 5.0.0 from 4.4.4 OTA file.
So I made the same now :
- reflash stock recovery from 5.0.0 stock
- upgrade adb to 1.0.32
But when I try to sideload OTA ZIP file, upload stop at 60% and I have this error :
Code:
"/system/bin/install-recovery.sh" has unespected contents.
E:Error in /sideload/package.zip
(Status 7)
I have to reflash system.img from 5.0.0 stock too ? I won't loose any data unless I flash userdata.img file, right ?
Thanks for your help.

Download the 4.4 to 4.4.2 update then I think you just flash it in recovery.

You shouldn't lose root but i'd ask someone else about that, but here is the page with the download link http://www.androidbeat.com/2013/12/...-4-4-2-kitkat-update-nexus-4-nexus-5-nexus-7/

Doesn't work for me. Get an error while installing the Zip. But at the main time i use volume mode, dsp manager etc....and i saw that any modification would break the OTA so perhaps it's because of that it doesn't work

I managed to go from 4.4 to 4.4.2. I followed different stuff but overall what i did on my 4.4.2 custom kernel :
Copy http://android.clients.google.com/p...ed-hammerhead-KOT49H-from-KRT16M.b3d1f307.zip to sdcard
Flash the KRT16M stock image. Follow @abaaaabbbb63 guide forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
If you want to keep data intact flash only the boot.img, system.img
Once the last file is flashed, just go from fastboot to recovery mode then install the .zip http://android.clients.google.com/p...ed-hammerhead-KOT49H-from-KRT16M.b3d1f307.zip like you would install any zip from recovery (install zip from sdcard)
reboot
ps : I had lost root so if it's your case, just reflash recovery :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511952
I had kept the files untouched in my C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools> so i just had to open cmd in that directoy (****+right click --> cmd)
Then :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now 4.4.2 with root and no loss of data

Hello everyone,
I wanted to update my nexus 5 from 4.4 to 4.4.2 but every time I try, even if I unrooted the phone and flashed the original kernel I get the same error while flashing the OTA with TWRP:

E:Error executing updater binary in zip ...
I'm not very good at this things, can someone help me?

You need to use fastboot and flash the system and boot image from 4.4

thank you but can you be a little bit more specific? I have fastboot on my computer but I don't know how to use it.. and what's the difference between system and boot image? I have to flash the entire 4.4.2 500mb image found on google? Do I have to be unrooted and with original kernel? Thank you very much

You don't have to be unrooted. Download the factory image and extract the files from it. In there is another zip file which needs to be extracted. In there you'll find the system and boot images
Uninstall Xposed if you have it, also, you should try this: flash the 4.4 system.img extracted from the factory image then try flashing the OTA zip again.

[Q] Android 4.4.3 on a rooted device

I own a rooted Nexus 5 with KitKat 4.4.2. Yesterday the N5 "saw" the 4.4.3 update, so I've downloaded it and then installed it, but while the phone was rebooting after the installation, it displayed the dead android logo with an error message. I've shut it down and reboot the phone but it is still running the 4.4.2 instead of the 4.4.3 and it doesn't receive the new update again. What can I do?
Download a rooted version of the 4.4.3 Stock ROM from here on XDA.

I rooted it by myself on KitKat 4.4.2.
what system mods did you make? this includes kernels and any changes to ANY file in the /system directory.
Download Vomers rom and flash it. Its stock 4.4.3. That's what I did and its running smoothly.

[Q] in title most definitely means this should be in q&a and not general.
The reason it failed is because you weren't stock (kernel, recovery, all system apps, no xposed framework). You need all of those to flash ota.
Like posted above, download @vomer's 4.4.3 ROM and flash it. It's the same thing. I ran it for a week and its golden

I had the same problem and the only "mod" I did was the tethering mod where I added the tether_dun_required 0 change to the settings.db file
Would that be the reason why mine failed? I unlocked bootloader, rooted STOCK.

Would probably need to know the error message to further troubleshoot the issue.
If you want root after an OTA, you have to fastboot flash a custom recovery then flash the superSU zip to root, so as suggested you may aswell fastboot flash recovery then recovery flash the stock rooted rom already mentioned. Actually fewer steps doing that.

[Q] update with root?

Just wondering if anyone is working on a flashable 5.0.1 update or knows how how to update stock 5.0 (rooted) without a data wipe.
I've unrooted and flashed the stock recovery, but it's saying the binary is wrong when i try to update?
U cant update using air push if ur rooted u can simply flash a 5.0.1 custom rom

Read any of the recent threads. You have to be 100% stock. Just flash the recovery, boot, and system from 5.0 in fastboot then do the ota

Q: Error in flashing 5.1. Status 7, showing mismatch in just keys from kitkat 4.4

Hi Experts,
I've Nexus 5 running stock ROM LRX22C with CWM. I'm trying to flash stock 5.1 but I get the error in the start where it says my device has fingerprint user keys from kitkat 4.4 instead of 5.0. The exact message is as follows:
This device has Google/hammerhead/hammerhead:4.4/KRT16M/893903:user/release-keys
Status 7
I can edit the updater script to avoid checking it but I would like to fix it. Please advise if I need to go back to stock 4.4 and then upgrade to 5.0 and then 5.1?
Is there any lesser tedious method to fix it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Download factory images and flash system.img, boot.img, radio.img and bootloader.img using fastboot while booted into the bootloader.
Just so that I can understand better, do I need to flash for all versions of just 5.1?

What do you mean?
If you mean flash old factory images first, then no, there is no point. Just download the 5.1 factory images and flash the .img files I mentioned (don't flash userdata.img since it'll wipe all data).
Thanks. I'll follow the instructions.

You can't take an OTA with a custom recovery, that's the problem.
Also, it's time to get rid of CWM.
So, what's your suggestion?
