Quick pin unlock - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a quick pin unlock mod? On my older phones (Samsung) there was always some mod to make this possible.
Is there something similar on the Nexus 5? I am stock rooted.

In custom roms, yes. But it's not on stock

Is there a flashable mod? I don't want to install a custom ROM. I really like the way it is stock.

You can do this via gravity box now. I'm looking for a 'remove enter key on PIN keyboard' so if you (or anyone) knows of a method to do so, kindly let me (and others) know! Thanks !

Have you both tried to adb remove HtcLockScreen.apk? It might look broken when you do, but there is a fix for that too

If I remove the lock screen would the default screen be vanilla or would I need to install another apk?
Thanks for the input.

[Q] I really need to install CWM?

Before flashing Cyanogenmod I really need to install ClockWorkMod? Because when I press power + volume some kind of pre-installed CWM appears and do have all the function I need (wipe/factory reset, select update from sd card etc) Can't I Install Cyanogenmod from there?
Sorry if I have bad english
Yes, you do need to install CWM. Also meaning of pre-installed CWM, it is Samsung Stock Recovery. It is very easy method to get CWM on your note.

Thanks for answering! I got it, but I have another doubt, If I install Cyanogenmod in my device, I will have lower graphics in-game? Something like no developer optimisation for my ROM (no antialiasing, poor texture quality etc)? Or This depends of the device not the ROM?
flashing CWM also is very important because it has Backup and restore options which are not included in stock recovery
1st thing I do for years is taking nand backup to restore in case on any failure (which happens alot with trying roms and mods)

There is some way for I get custom Android themes and apps with samsung's ROM? Like update the apps to custom android apps? Can I substitute the notification bar too?

Get Apex launcher or one of the other launchers available. Easy to theme and remains stock.
I don't believe you should have problems in games as the cm10 team use the aosp or aokp rom. Straight from google like on the nexus series. They then tweak and theme as they please...

Ok, I I'm going to install Cyanogenmod, but I have Windows 8 so I need to disable driver signature enforcement, I've already did it, long time ago, to Install jelly bean on my Xperia Mini Pro, I need to do It again every time I'm going to install any custom ROM or it's a lifelong kind of thing?

Every time I flash a custom rom I simply download the zip file and copy to the sd card. Flash using CWM...
Never disabled anything on my PC and it always works. I too have win 8...

So how did you flashed CWM? Cyanogenmod official wiki tells me this:
"NOTE: On Windows 8 you must disable driver signature enforcement in order to use zadig"

You're using Heimdall, not ODIN.. ODIN easier to use though Heimdall good too.
If you are rootedalready you can also use Mobile ODIN, pro version to be safe.... Easiest way I know how...

For sure Odin method is better! But I need to root my device first? Or not?
I'm goig to do this procedure:

And then:

Yep, that should be ok... Root and CWM first then CM10...
Just a suggestion, in ODIN untick "reboot". This way you can go to recovery before it reboots and changes back to stock recovery... It does this so you do need to boot to recovery afterwards manually. volume up + power until logo appears then release power button... Then you can flash CM10 but make sure to follow all the steps...
Oh yeah, in ODIN, DON'T TICK REPARTITION... You will end up with a big problem if you do...

Question about cm11

Can anyone explain to me why does cm11 install along with the system itself, a new bootloader?

i didnt say anything about installing it, i just asked why, since aside from stock (including custom stock roms), its the only rom that does that

Probably since CM has quite a large number of users, and probably most of those users know absolutely nothing about Android so they don't even know what a bootloader is, let alone know how to update it. And they probably flash it purely because it's "cool".

Suggest a rom?

Hi.
My Z5 thermal throttles, and gets uncomfortably hot. However I like the look and feel of the stock ROM on my Z5.
So I was wondering, could I have the best of both worlds?
A ROM that keeps my phone cool without losing to much performance, while keeping the stock "feeling": stock Sony apps, and the UI.
Many thanks
-MegaBytesMe
This custom rom seems to be very popular among those who don't want to use AOSP but want a more customised experience: LINK
Paired with it, you can use FSC to have better performance whilst keeping your phone cooler: LINK
A custom kernel and config might help with heat too.

Most certainly! So long as you have twrp and root you can use the glasscannon governor profile and fsc on the stock rom.

There is several guides on how to unlock your bootloader and flash twrp, Here's one from a quick search, also includes DRM key backup. Rooting is as simple as flashing magisk (or prefered alternative) via twrp.

Hi.
I tried the guide you sent, and I got through most of it until the Bootloader Unlock.
I entered *#*#7378423#*#* and looked at my bootloader state. It was Bootloader Unlock allowed: no.
I had a look on the xda forums and it appears that I won't be able to unlock my Bootloader.
Is there anything I can do?
Also it was bought straight from sony, not through a carrier.
Many thanks,
-MegaBytesMe

Crap man that sucks. I've heard from others that with some special tricks you can unlock your bootloader but unfortunately I don't have any information that can help you.

Possible to downgrade official to official?

More specifically... Is it possible to downgrade from Official Pie back to Official Oreo?
There is no fault with the Pie OS itself. It's all about various preferences that are no longer available with Pie, as I do not wish to root at this time. Pandora lockscreen controls, the use of Substratum, expanded volume controls, to name a few.

Yea, that didn't work. Someone else mentioned a rollback ROM that could be used, but I am having issues finding it. I'll keep searching, unless someone else has done this already and is willing to chime in on what needs to be done.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.
I had problem using the rollback package... Device had been encrypted and no PIN accepted. So i had to do a clean install.
If thats ok for you just follow the steps here and you are back on OOS 5.1.5

u have to unlock the bootloader and do the root stuff all over again

That's exactly what I did... Flash the full ROM, flash TWRP, reboot recovery, flash magisk. Disable lock screen before you do anything.

It's a security patch/encryption issue. I believe you have to format (not just wipe) data. Then you should be able to install the stock rom.
Note that everything on your phone will be wiped by this, so make sure you're backed up externally.
Thank you all for the replies so far. To clarify, I'm on stock Pie and want to roll back to stock Oreo.
Full wipe, etc. is perfectly fine by me, as long as it's possible.
