Slow data speeds after 4.4.1. update - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just updated my Nexus 5 to 4.4.1 manually. After the update, I'm getting max speeds of 2-3Mbps down, and like .05Mbps up on HSPA+. This just started happening after the update. I'm on the Bell network (Canada). I used to get 8-12Mbps down & 2-3Mbps up on HSPA+ before the update.
Tried reflashing just the radio, but that didn't help. Just got another 2.45Mbps down, 0.11Mbps up.
Anyone else having this problem?

not really, my speed jumped upwards around 200kbyte/s down (wired? jap!) - maybe you should try to flash the previous radio .17?

Sprint EVO.. Latest Cyanogen and Radio.. Stuck on 1x.. HELP!

New to this stuff, but have managed to fumble through getting phone rooted, flashed and functional... to a degree.
I have a HTC EVO on the Sprint network.
Android 2.3.3
Cyangen Kernel 2.6.37.4
Mod ver. 7.0.3.1
Baseband 2.15.00.04.08
So with everything up to date as far as i know I am stuck with a '1x' for a signal.
My mom has the exact same phone except its not rooted. Stock everything and shes getting a 3g signal when shes in town.
So Im stuck here. Anyone have a clue?
Im fairly new here and by no means a dev but i believe its because you have cyanogen its telling you the actual speed you have. while the stock evo only says 3G but is really only on 1x. try running speedtest on both devices.
-also please correct me if im wrong, read this somewhere and am currently experiencing it aswell
thanks ocruz301
Can anyone else chime in and verify this?
try re-configuring your roaming capabilities. Your issue is unlikely to do with CM7.
I have looked through the roaming menu and i dont see anything that looks incorrect.
Is there anything in particular i should be looking for?
Speedtest.net results:
average from several different locations.. 15kB
around the same for uploads..
600ish latency
I have travelled a little over 500 miles around Tennessee Arkansas and Mississippi and Im getting the same thing everywhere..
Anyone?.. anyone?
So these are the steps i have taken thus far:
-updated to latest cm7
-updated to latest radio
no go
flashed to stock rom and updated prl
ran speed test.. 15kB up/down.. EVEN THOUGH it SAYS 3g
flashed back to cm7
speed test.. 15kB
Does no one else have a freakin' EVO that can just chime in and let me know im the only asshole with this issue?
I have a somewhat same problem. My phone would drop to 1x every 10 to 20 minutes and stay there for a few minutes then go back to 3g. It does this throughout the day. Luckily I have 4G in most of my area and that helps me to avoid using 3g. The moment I turn off 4g it starts doing it again. It started a few weeks ago and I don't know what caused it. Like you have have tried different Roms and Radios but no help. I'll gonna try to unroot and go back to Sprint Rom and see it that helps.
hmmmm
I run king cocoa II rom and I thnk its the absolute best ive seen but its also froyo not gingerbread
Anyone, I am having the same issue, no matter which ROM I flashed, and whic kernel PRI or PRL I used, my speed is only 128K max with 1x icon

[Q] Problems with the Full MR2 leak - 4G radio instability

Very odd problem with this new full MR2, probably radio related. When i upgraded it obviously did the full wipe so I know it's not a software interfering. It's pretty much a fresh reset since 1pm.
Anyways i keep losing connectivity to 4g. it flickers to 4g, then 3g, then 1x. Then back to 4g for a second, then it just loses connectivity to the internet totally but shows full bars. Now i'm back at 1x.
I am sitting smack in the middle of NYC where there is always full 4g & 3g bars. Anyone else experiencing this problem? I've done numerous reboots, put my phone in/out of airplane mode, etc but i can't hold a 4g signal for the life of me. Didn't have this problem in the AM before i upgraded. It's now flickering between no internet connectivity and 1x as i type this. I wonder if this is network related or the new firmware?
I was having that issue before the updates (the first one) when I was in NYC. I honestly think it may be the 4g network. the way I solved it was putting my phone on CDMA(auto) and it just held 3g.
I was having that same issue running The Perfect Storm. I downgraded the radio and went back to BAMF Remix and have had NO 4G issues. Good connection, great speed, and it never loses the 4G connection.
4g has been fine for me running the MR2 radio with flyweight ROM. I'm in Florida though, not NY...
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I am in NYC and had the same problem....
I even flashed the first Ginger radio and still had the same problem...
10 min ago I reloaded the MR2 radio and I am getting 4g now....
I am 99.999999% sure it was the VZ network!
EDIT::: just went back to 1x.....I am sure it is the VZ network...just have to wait ait out
Interesting...I thought I would try this update again this morning with a different ROM (Das BAMF 2.0 - 5) and have had no issues at all. 4G is constantly connected with no drops. I'm not sure if something happened with the initial install or if it was an issue with the ROM I was using it with. Anyway, all is good.
Try powering down..pull battery and LTE sim. Reinstall them and power up.

sorry to necro, but this is the first relevant thread i found in search
i am in a similar situation, before rooting (stock thunderbolt), i could exaggerate and say i didn't even know what the 3G icon looked like, constant 4GLTE uptime in washington, DC
i'm using INJ3CT3DTH3ORY (pardon me if i have stylized the name incorrectly) with an OVA MR2, and now i'm constantly 3G. i've tried every setting under "set preferred network." if i do LTE only, it'll show 4GLTE for maybe half a minute, and then fall into 1X. if i do CDMA + LTE/EvDo auto, it'll show 4GLTE for a similarly short amount of time, then fall into 3G. all the other settings deal with 3G only if i remember correctly, so i'm not even bothering to mention those.
thinking it might have been the radio, i tried flashing MR2.5 and MR.627, both giving me the same result.
any ideas?
edit: found this thread, seems to be related as well (showing some effort here) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178285
I am not experiencing these problems with BAMF 1.86

H+ vs H - speed test - quick revert back to check?

Edit: I'm gonna go talk about this in the Android Revolution thread, so I guess we can stop here. The phone is constantly switching to 3G mode now too, like every time I turn off the screen and turn it on it's in 3G mode, it has never done that, so something is wrong!
Not sure what else to call the thread, lol. Still working on my 10 posts after 1 year (ha) so I can't put this anywhere else.
As of yesterday I had S-Off, CID 11111111, stock Bell Canada ROM. It's been a while since I used the Speedtest.net app, but I'm pretty sure my results would be up to 10 mbps area, sounds about right for a 4G 14.4 mbps phone? I know when I last tested I was not upset at the result.
Last night I installed Android Revolution 6.2.1 XE with 3.6 Sense and Beats Audio.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14192842&postcount=4
I have the firmware loaded, and everything went fine, and I can confirm that the recommended radio 11.68.3504.00U_11.21.3504.13_2 is showing in device info.
I searched the thread and found in FAQ that it will not show H+, rather H, and it should still be in 4G mode. But I just did a speedtest.net and can only get about 0.8-2.5 mbps no matter which server I select. I am in Calgary. I also searched and confirmed that I am NOT to select the T-Mobile 4G option from the ROM install menu, which I did not.
Is there any ROM I can quickly revert to that does use the H+ or stock like settings that I can do a speed test and see what normal results are? Or is anyone in Calgary on stock phone can run a rest? ha, not sure where else to go with it, and don't want to undo root and put stock back on.
... but something worries me that I am getting hosed on my download speed. Soemthing makes me think I am not getting 4G.
Any thoughts are appreciated!

Additionally, my ping on Speedtest app to the Calgary server, from within Calgary, is ~350ms.
Seems way high, perhaps that's the issue and I need to figure that out first?

not only a problem in your country..
same here in the netherlands (den helder)
Well I just had a friend test his Bell iPhone, I understand they are not 4G or may be on different frequencies or whatever, but same Speedtest.net Calgary server he got 5 mbps down speed and 56 ping, so I'm thinking my 350+ ping is the root of my issue, everything is sluggish. One more post and I can talk about this in the other thread I guess.

[Q] No data after new rom install....maybe.

My buddy just rooted and flashed the Eaglesblood ICS 4.0.4 rom and noticed that he no longer shows 3 or 4 g just "E", and basically it goes nowhere unless on wifi. Did he just mess up an APN setting somewhere or could there be a wrong "radio" issue here??
Baseband-ril issue i guess. I use lg o2x though.
no speed
I have EB ICS 4.0.4 and I'm on simple mobile. I get the H by my signal bar but my speeds are worth nothing. I get about 120kbps down and 150kbps up. Maybe its baseband issue. I'm running m6600a-scautnz-2.0.972t 1 jul15 201 10:00:00 mp. Anyone has an idea if it will help updating it?
Thanks in advance.

No, updating will not help.
Well... actually, it might. But you'd lose being able to call(hearing/talking)
Update.
Buddy went to major city near by , got good data speeds, only shows 2g or 3g. but gets nothing near home town. Got at least 2g at home before now nothing...radio???
BTW Im new to this, what is baseband? ril?
Slow 3g
So it's not the phone but the carrier problem then? On the other hand I'm a truck driver and have tried the speed test in three different cities now. Still it's about the same.

4.4.3 baseband messing up with TMo LTE

I updated my N5 to 4.4.3 through this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/development/flashable-stock-4-4-3-supersu-t2771010
could not wait for Google to update my N5.
My wife's N5 was updated through official ota.
We are both on TMobile. Same plan. Same zip code.
At home we use to have both LTE signal at 3 bars out of 4.
After the update I noticed this issue where both phones are connected to LTE but now we have 0 or 1 bar out of 4.
often I see No Network at all.
Changing to 3g or 2g will set the phone back on Edge or HSPA.
I think the new baseband messed it up.
Anyone else experiencing this issue on TMO with N5?
Any ideas?
Thanks
I noticed 0-2 bars of LTE at home but mine has always been like that.
i feel like i have less LTE bars than i did prior to the update. In some areas where I have always had LTE coverage, I have HSPA instead. At work I have less bars - I work very close to home (NYC, Manhattan) so i'm not sure if it a problem as a result of the update or service issues in the city - at least in my case.
Bars and signal strength are not necessarily related. The bar is just telling you what the software is interpreting, there have been tons of signal bar hacks that make it more or less accurate.
What I will say is that the LTE drops are something I've seen before even when I paradoxically had "full bars" on LTE only to suddenly have my phone not actually displaying a connection and then it would, after a moment, drop to H+.

Not to sound like a D1ck,But.(I feel your pain)...Finally someone else besides me having issues and I'm on sprint (insert jokes now)the same thing has happened to me my wife my dad my brother and his wife. All of our data handoffs from 3G/LTE hang.I/we have gotten worse LTE.You are not the only 1.I even adb fastbooted back to 4.4.2 to see if the difference is just in my head. It's not.4.4.2 gave me LTE back again.
I am thinking to flash back the previous baseband. Anyone reversed back to the old radio but staying with 4.4.3? I can tell you that the battery life is better with 4.4.3.

Are you seeing that the behavior of handoffs is different or are you losing your data connection more often than before?
I am also seeing emergency calls only in some places like my job, where previously I had 3 bar lte. But at home it stays with 0 to 1bar very unstable. I am convinced is the new base band. Tmo told me to do a switch from 3G back to lte in network settings. After that didn't work they told me to do a full reset to factory settings. Thinking to flash back to . 23 radio.
