there is a octacore galaxy s4 but octacores are actually worst than quad/duel cores, so like if a phone is a octacore clocked at 2.3ghz, all the cores would not be clocked at that it would all add up to 2.3ghz most would be at 1.2ghz or 1.5ghz, there really is no point of octacore phones. phones are not yet computers a moto x or LG G2 would be fine.

Today's octa cores are quad + quad cores. Not true octacores. So if you can wait you should wait till next year. Coz I think they'll make their way to the market by next year. Anyways LG g2 is a nice device. But don't expect it to be updated to anything more than Kitkat.

[Q] Nvidia tegra 2 or dual core snapdragon?

Soo, what is the better one? Based on the benchmark, the tegra 2 outperformed the dualcore snapdragon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1003141 ), but based on another post here on the forum, the snapdragon outperformed the nvidia tegra 2 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1022242 ). Also, should I upgrade from my desire hd to the htc sensation, or should I wait for another phone?
Thanks For All Replies!
The tegra 2 has dual core A9 compared to snapdragons dual core A8. So I think that means tegra 2 is better but I don't really know. As for the sensation, idk.

If you read further down into the comments, you see that Tegra 2 isn't a clear winner in either thread.
Ok, thanks for the replies! Are there going to be any better cpu's/gpu's out in the next half year, or should I upgrade from my desire HD to the sensation? Also, is the new samsung galaxy s 2 worth waiting for?
Thanks

The Scorpion core isn't exactly a Cortex A8 core. It's known to use some of the out of order processing that the Cortex A9 processors are known for so in a way, its superior to the A8 yet lagging behind a little in performance to the A9. Still, I think Tegra 2 isn't better because of its performance; I think its better because of the support its getting from developers.

Fairest comparison would be between the Atrix and Sensation due to the same screen resolution. Something to note is that the Sensation is still using pre-released software, while the Atrix is still on 2.2.

Dual core or quad core

Im thinking of a new phone but im perplexed. Should i get a dual core now like the Note or the Nexus or should i try and wait for a quad core? I dont usually game pn my phone, i have a Galaxy Tab for that.

people would tell you to get the quad, but personally I wouldn't cause
a : No app needs THAT much power yet, ( I might be wrong here. )
b : Battery life.

While I agree with the guys above, but I'm also in the same boat as the TC. I'm currently upgrade eligible and I've thought about buying a dual-core phone as I currently have an Aria but I think I've decided to wait until the Galaxy S3. If any of the rumors are true about it, it wont be out of date by my next upgrade.

The only "announced" quad cores are the huwai whatever its called(sorry dont remember the name of the phone). And the htc one x. Unfortunatly the htc will not have a quad core in america yet because the tegra3 is not lte compatable so i think we all gonna have to settle for dual core this year. I could be wrong but it seems like we wont get a quad for a while yet.

Luckily I just upgraded to the Samsung Glide in November but I know what you mean. Why go Dual core if you can get Quad core and be set for a good amount of time. The only thing I worry about quad core is will it eat up battery power?
My dual core is plenty and it doesn't even have dual core optimization ics OS yet... I can't think of any reason to need a quad core. It's like using a server to power notepad

What about Four+1?
What about 4-PLUS-1 technology? Any idea whether such systems actually make things run more efficiently using only 1 core (the "ninja" core) for low-end tasks? No idea about this, just floating it to see what news there is out there about this technology.
First of all based on ur bugdet
Second quad core rocks but if u don't need intensive processing with ur smartphone I would say go for the galaxy note its amazing

Dual core most people will tell you quadcore is faster than dual core this is false. Just because you have two more of something doesn't mean anything if you can not use it properly. This is why tegra 3 as you see gets beat by Qualcomm krait (dual core) and Ti omap 5 (dual core). Its not about how many cores its about efficiency. Nvidia pretty much doesn't know what they are doing still in the phone market.
Quad core on a phone is not required imo.
I would stick with a dual core (My Galaxy SII has never given me any trouble) - quad core is pricy and no real need for it at present. But you can always do a future investment since you will eventually want a quad core.
I am personally waiting till my quad core phones drop in price and are required.
The note does look sweet but my luck sprint wont get it and htc said the one x will be the fagship phone for this year
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA
when android can fully utilize two cores, then we'll talk. Until then this is pointless. Quad core = less battery
Why no three cores?
I would like an upgrade as well lol, even if it means 1GHz Single core as I am currently surviving on 528MHz OC'ed to 692MHz (ofc single core) lol
It can handle everyday tasks all right but when you mention 3D games it dies (no gpu)

The thing is, the HTC One X in the UK can be brought for £28.50 a month - I would have to pay more than that for the Galaxy Nexus. Quad core phones are no more expensive to buy than dual core - phone manufacturers realise that at present, they simply don't have a market for constant £41 on free prices.
For the people who say quad core means less battery are wrong. Nvidia is still using
A9 architecture and 40 mn. Ti omap5, exynos (5, something), Krait, all beat tegra 3 quad core technology. Ti omap 5 and krait are using 28mn and exynos supposedly using 32mn. All of these processors are a15 which pretty much destroys nvidia a9 architecture. They also use less power voltage and completing the same task. Compared to tegra 3.
Quad core is pointless if you don't have the battery to back it up. The Razr Maxx has a 3,300mAh battery. That should have been available a long time ago. Companies keep designing phones with bigger screens, more powerful processors, and energy-draining 4G LTE. This is all fun and well, but the battery is the most important part and need to be worked on more.
In some cases dual core processors can actually be faster than processors with quad core.

[Q] What is the best GPU? (between today's dual core droids only)

I finally have enough money to buy a new dual-core droid and I have a few units on my list. I already made some research on other aspects and I'm left with just another question: What is the best GPU in today's dual-cores?
Please take note that I'm not interested in quad-cores simply because I can't afford them! And I'm not into tablets too. Please limit the answers based on dual-cores only.
The GPUs I'm comparing are the ff:
-MALI-400
-Adreno 220
-PowerVR SGX540
As I said, I already did some research but the threads I saw are all outdated. Also, we have a lot of phones that came out last year having the above mentioned GPUs so I'm guessing we have more accurate info now.
I need help. I'm not a rich guy, I'll be buying a phone with my savings and I really want to be satisfied with the device I'll be getting 'cause I'll probably be stuck with it for the next 3 to 4 years.
Your help will be really appreciated!
*Again just a reminder, I'm only interested in the GPU performance. Nothing else.
a galaxy s2 gt-i9100 its very fast it has a 1.2ghz processor Samsung exynos dual core 1 gigabyte of ram
no doubt, the powerVR SGX540, with the Adreno coming second (not a close second however lol, a far one).

I say the Mali is first

See. That's why I was getting confused. In dual-cores, some say the MALI is the best, some say it's the Adreno 220, and some claims it's the PowerVR SGX540.
Is there any way to determine the best overall? I know they have strenghts and weaknesses but what I want is the overall best. If you can provide facts or links to support your claims that would really be appreciated.

I know it's fast. It's bigger brother, the Note, is actually on my list. But what I'm interested in is the GPU. How does MALI-400 stack up against Adreno 220 and PowerVR SGX540.
Thanks for taking time to reply though

Google is your friend but to save you time its the mali. The following article details the benchmarks for each gpu what surprised me is my phones chip can play 1080p 3D video yet the mali beat it :what:

Actually, google is my best friend. I already tried googling for what I was looking for but I can't find the exact answer. I'm getting mixed reviews.
Thank you guys for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it. I guess what I'm looking for is real life performance. Of course a MALI-400 on a 800x480 screen have a performance advantage over a qHD/720p screen Adreno 220/PowerVR SGX540 though you might have to sacrifice image quality.
Soooooo I came to this conclusion: All the these GPUs are good enough for running almost every, if not all, apps on the Play Store. I was actually contemplating on whether to buy a Samsung Galaxy Note (5.3"), Xperia S, LG Nitro HD, and Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
These phones are all dual-cores with HD screens which I consider a must for my multimedia needs/wants. I ruled out the Galaxy Nexus first because of it's 5MP camera and non-expandable capacity. Next I ruled out the Nitro HD. It's a good phone but the around 3hours of talk time is a big no-no for me (I make a lot of calls). So I got down to the Note and Xperia S.
I now choose the Xperia S! Hooray! Reason: I believe the 1.5GHZ dual-core, 1GB RAM, Adreno 220, will be good enough to run almost everything smoothly for the next one or two years. Bonus: I get a 32GB internal storage, digicam quality 12MP shooter with excellent 720p/1080p vids, marvelous HD screen (though the SuperAMOLED is luring me towards the Note), and Sony's reputation of giving out updates even to their old devices (the x10 came from Donut land and got as far as Gingerbread country).
So there it is. I'll just probably save up again once there are Apps that my Xperia S can't run! Thanks for the help again.

[Q] Snapdragon S4 GPU 350 on 5 inch FULL HD?

Hello everyone,
First of all i'm sorry if there are any threads like this.
So, my question is:
As I have researched, snapdragon s4 quad (gpu 320) is definitely better than tegra 3 right? But how good it is with some serious screens? I mean droid dna for example?
I don't know if you heard about new sony xperia Z (http://www.sonymobile.com/gb/products/phones/xperia-z/#white). It totally blew my mind. I think i'm gonna upgrade from my one x to this one.
Is it worth it? Will it have better battery life and gaming performance?
Thanks in advance

Please Suggest A good mobile phone under 300$ or 20,000rs

Hi guys could you suggest me a decent phone with good specifications. I have suggested a few of them though I am really confused between them. The XoloX1000 has an intel 2.0GHz processor whereas the XoloQ1000 has a 1.2Ghz Quard core mediatech processor. Also the Xolo Play has an nvidia tegra 3 processor. I am also looking for xperia l or xperia c. Some people say 1.0Ghz Quallcom processor would be faster than the 1.2Ghz quard core processor. Please suggest the best one amongst the above. Also you can suggest your own best phone within this range
PS A decent GPU would also be necessary
Please quote my lines so that I would be informed as soon as you reply
