Need your opinions on buying a tablet - General Topics

Hi All,
I'm not sure if it's the right forum to post this but I couldn't find another one suitable enough.
Anyways,My subject is that I'm going to buy a tablet in the near future and I need your opinion.I don't have that much knowledge in tablets or hardware so I need your opinion to choose a good one.My main purpose of buying it to play games(Specially high graphics game like NFS MW,Asphalt 8).My current device isn't strong enough to play all the games out there. So, I decided to buy a new one. After surfing through the google I found out that tablets are better than smartphones to play games. But I can't decide which one is best for me.
My budget is USD 260 or less and my minimum wanting is :
1.Back and Frontal Camera(MP doesn't matter)
2.1 GB or more RAM
3.A good and fast processor to play games swiftly
4.A good GPU to get good graphics.
5.Android 4.x
6.High Resolution(not too much)
7.Internal and External Memory support
8.SIM(3G,4g),wifi support
Thank you

How about Google Nexus 7?My friend suggested me. Will I be able to use USB WiFi Adapter on the WiFi disabled version of Nexus 7?

Nexus 7
I would recommend a nexus 7 2013 wifi version. I love mine.

Another vote for the 2013 Nexus 7.

Thank you,I've decided to buy it

When, and what phone!? Wait for 2010?

Isn't it a dilemma to buy a phone now. Constant fear of a better version coming out within a couple of months...
So far, a lot of eyes are on the n900 and the HD2. I am not too much of a fan of the Droid - and the Xperia 10 - well that still has potential.
But then we are expecting some Nvidia Tegra 2 based mobile phones as well - not only promising very good graphics performance for gaming - but good battery life.
Then there is always, albeit quite far off - the chance apple decide to do a decent update to the 3GS (I mean, last 2 years, have only been updates to the 3G, so its about time they do something great this year right? Especially with the huge amount of new technology available).
I am stumped, I mean, I really don't know what to do. Buy the HD2, or the N900 - or wait it out for the new phones Q1 2010, or wait Q2/3 2010.
I am looking for, a laptop replacement to be honest - something I can do my browsing and so fourth on comfortably - go on websites like mini clip without hassle - maybe have good game playability. Also, would like to use it for things like BBC iplayer etc - good video recording/camera - so in a way - it seems n900 seems suitable - but then what knocks you back is that it only has a 600 mhz processor, compared to the 1GHZ processors being available - as well as a couple of other shortcomings. Every phone seems to be missing some things - but I guess no one can expect a perfect phone . Do you think, if I wait for 6 months, I could be looking at a very decent laptop replacing phone? I am, at the moment, worried about the lack of battery life on these upcoming ones - which I hope will be amended in the near future?
I guess I am quite optimistic about the Nvidia Tegra 2 based phone - in fact I am just excited at what the possibilities will be - coming early 2010 - but at the same time - frustration - as everything seems to be getting updated really quickly...
So, what about you guys?
Welcome to forums
Well you can wait forever for the "perfect" device or decide that you can't wait any longer and buy one from the existent ones.
Also will depend on how much $ you wanna spent.
From the actual ones I can recommend:
The best with hardware keyboard: Touch Pro 2
The best with no hardware kb: HD2
Read, Search, Respect and Enjoy!
Welcome to HTC XDA! As orb said, the HD2 & TP2 are the tops now...see their forum sections for detailed info on them...
What is the opinions of xda forumers on the n900? Potentially it could be huge?
One thing that annoys me about HD2 is - that it is too much makeup on 6.5 - if you get my drift? It is like it is trying to be something its not - while other OS's - seem "proper", I know it all sounds weird - I really don't know how to put it. It is like 6.5 has just had a haircut, beard trim etc to try to compete with the other OS's in terms of UI/touch screen compatibility.
Nokia perhaps is a good device but it has EDIT: maemo on it which I don´t really like...
I´ll recommend you an HTC WM device

lolol
@ ma2k5
You wont get any unbiased info from these chaps....
They cant see past the HTC logo......I think Obr3000 gets paid to post sometimes, just posts.
Hi - I buy HTc
Htc
Htc
lolol - I jest - they are all good guys....
Its got worse here over last few years (no I am joking)
Seriously
Touch Pro 2 is a good device for web browsing when using Opera 9.5+ but it is in NO way a next gen device.
But - Opera 10 is now out and available on S60 V5 platform - which is already running on new hardware on devices from samsung and sony... his is a better browsing experience at the moment, it runs OMAP 3 platform with THAT 600MHZ processor you were talking about.
I have a Touch pro 2 and an OMnia HD - side by side the OMnia is faster and smoother when comparing opera builds. Albeit at a lower resolution.....
My touch pro 2 is not quite as good as I expected it to be.
My last HTC device - HTC advantage - bought what, 3 years ago seems to run at a similar pace to this NEW Touch pro 2. Versatile and good to hack but such shabby build, camera sucks cattle, not enough buttons until you open it....
BUT the support from THIS site means that the device is AMAZING!!!!
If it wasnt for XDA dev - the touch pro 2 would just not be viable for me.
The thing to keep in Mind is that Mhz means nothing nowdays.
My Core2Duo on my PC is 2.4 Ghz per core - but each core will still outperform my old P4 3 ghz chip/// as all the buses that transfer the data are many times faster on newer platforms, plus extra tech makes the comparison even less relevant.
What I am saying here is that the 1ghz qualcomm chipies aint going to worry OMAP 3 chips running at 600 + Mhz, performance will be similar.....
Personally, as an owner of many HTC devices AND Nokia AND Samsung Omnia HD if I had the choice now, I would go with the N900 as its new and I think its going to be a killer mature platform
Then again - if I didnt have this touch pro 2 - that can do virtually EVERYTHING I want it to - spotify last fm web ftp full network access - VNC - remote desktop Logme in, Web video downloader, BBC iplayer - My player supporting Hulu channel 4 on demand,
ZENONIA RPG BLISS!!! + all social networking u can do. - Then more than likely I would go for the touch pro 2 again - then look on enviously at the N900.....
The main thing is that I end up carrying another phone for camera and music as this touch pro seems to destroy connectors that convert to 3.5 and its pointless taking shots with it....
I say get a cheaper old Touch pro 1 for the time being (same Hardware as Touch pro 2 just no huge screen) - second hand for what £150 or something......then get a N900 on contract with data connection when your up for upgrade probably for very little $$
Then you will be in tech bliss

Anyway my thinking is the same, I´ll stay with WM
The only WM phone I am waiting right now is clamshell type with a powerful processor. I don't care who will make it first, HTC, Sony, Samsung, etc...

Go for a refurb Nook Color or Archos.
The tablet you showed has good specs but considering the fact that it's not a common model, you will have trouble finding,
1) rooting procedures.
2) service/repair
3) custom ROMs.
And, the one you showed looks like a Chinese tablet that have crappy hardware and software.
If you took a look at the review they said it was quite neat, and I've only heard good things about it when looking around.
It just worries me a bit, that people says 2.2 is crap and that dual core is worth **** when most things only run one one :/
Nook Color and Archos is e-reader, I don't want that :/
Only 2.3 and 3.0 tablets worth buying?
Nook is fully functional android tablet when rooted... Not just e-reader... And much better than the Chinese tablet you are looking at. A friend at work bought one of those... Very slow and lags like crazy... No good. Hope you find what works for you.

Nook Color has an A8 800Mhz, that is worse and consumes way more power

2.3 and 3.0 tablets are somewhat worth buying. Archos is not an eReader. It's a PMP/tablet. Nook Color is an eReader and so has an excellent display. Still, it's full touch and can be rooted and made to function as a real tablet.
I wouldn't really call 2.2 crap. It's good but with a Nook Color, you will be able to update to 2.3.5 using CM7.
It's sad that you are making me repeat myself, a Nook Color comes with an American warranty unlike a Chinese product which has no warranty. Even if they advertise one, you can't be sure that they will honor it 100%.
A review can be biased. On the internet, you can easily write a biased review. Nook Color has a huge modding community and, not everyone is going to be biased.
As for Archos, it's more multimedia oriented and so has a dual cam as well.
I wouldn't call dual core ****. Although not a lot of software can utilize multi-threading, you will see better software soon. It might take some time by when, your tablet would become slow and outdated. Dual core is worth it but it's not a smart choice, right now.

Nook Color does consume more battery but it has reasonable life.
Then again, it all boils down to your own priorities. If you don't mind a sub-standard Chinese product as long as it's cheap and has some cool specs, go ahead. If you want a somewhat quality product which is either little expensive or has lower specs, don't buy the model you showed.
I think I'll buy it next month, just to try out a tablet.
I can always buy something else if I like it

Even laptops are hard to upgrade hardware wise, let alone tablets.
He is talking about software. That thing runs 2.2. Most smartphones listed in have custom ROMs. Most phones that have only 2.1 officially have 2.3 ported unofficial by XDA members. He is asking if you can upgrade that device to 2.3 at least unofficially.

That looks more like a scam. It is impossible to squeeze so much power with such a low price.
What is your primary purpose for this tablet?
I would second the suggestions for Nook&Color.
Also, I hear Amazon's going to launch it's new android based eBook-centric tablet, as "Amazon Kindle" for $250. If you just want to read some ebooks, do a little surfing, and play games like Angry Birds. Then I think this tablet is for you. Keep in mind that this tablet is very ebook-oriented and NOT AT ALL like any other android based tablet. Heck, it doesn't even support some of the google services (Android market). You may want to watch out for that.

Good ~$200 tablet?

I'm an iOS/Java developer and I want to learn Android dev and port my apps to Android devices. I know there's simulators, but I'm a firm believer in "dogfooding," and want to "live" with the software running on real hardware for a few days, so, I'm looking at the ~$200 Android options... I can read the spec sheets and shoot-out comparisons as well as the next guy, but I was wondering what's the groupthink here?
What I'm considering (so far; open to other suggestions):
IdeaPad A1
Kindle Fire (rooted)
Waiting for the rumored Google ICS tablet
Thoughts? Capacitive touch screen (ideally with at least 1024x600 resolution), decent responsiveness (adequate CPU and RAM), reliable WiFi connectivity are must-haves. Anything from 2.3 on would be interesting.
I have a PRS-T1 I rooted and am happily running a mix of eReader apps on, and I had a Nook Color running CM7.1 but it was always flaky and inadvertently (unrelatedly) became a chew toy for my newest rescue dog...
Thanks!
Try the Asus MeMO Pad, it has high-end specs for $250.
http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/asus-eee-pad-memo/4505-3126_7-35117824.html
However, I would suggest going for the Asus Padfone, as it represents the first step towards a future with modular computing, a paradigm shift on the level of having smartphones in the first place.

What i want is a tablet for gaming and a tablet which has more raw power (processing power)
so i want u guys to tell which should i buy.... I want to do extreme tablet gaming.... I myself is in favour of nexus 7... But i want u guys to tell
Which tablet is more impresive in the field if gaming and processing power..... And which has better gaming experience
Which tablet play games more well without any lag or glitch????

Well its not that extreme......
Which device would have better graphic details in games comparatively .
for me i hate apple so android wins all the time like most things a name is just a name don't mean its beter
The ipad has a PowerVR SGX543 MP4 after all I read its way ahead of the Tegra 3 graphics.
Is dishing out the extra 300 worth it? IMO no. Tegra 3 is pretty capable even though it's not the bleeding edge in graphics.
Bang for your buck:nexus 7 or asus tf300t

graphics wise they are pretty close to be fair, but so much still comes down to the software with tablet gaming still (game devs have yet to get to what tegra 3 is truly about to do I feel).
And when the Nexus is atleast half the price of the iPad, has a better CPU and built with Jellybean the slickest android version yet, its a no brainer, get the nexus 7, get it now!

I would go for the newer Nexus 7, you will not only playing games with a tablet and so viewing a movie is better done on a Nexus 7 screen ratio.
The Nexus 7 has a 16/9 ratio also with Android you'll get more freedom, but with freedom comes the difficulty of choise.
I always say that Apple is like communism they " the company nows what best for you, with Android you'll get democracy this gives you more freedom but demands of course a little bit of effort from you
don't waste time go for nexus 7................:good::good::good::good::good::good::good:
Nexus 7 is faster and less expensive
The nexus's processor is better, but for gaming the iPad is probably better as it is perfectly optimized.

[Q] About my new tablet

Hey guys, ive just received brand new Asus memo pad as a Christmas present! The thing is I had my Samsung galaxy s3 for quite some time and I really enjoyed it but since both of these systems are operating on android, I cannot seem but feel like I got something that I already have... I know the screen is bigger and it has a lilac more RAM and not to mention Quad core processor! Even my 3 year old laptop has dual core and I have no idea where the heck in the tablet you can use such a processor...
So my question is... is there any awesome stuff that I could use my tablet for, which I cannot use my phone with? And perhaps would it be possible to use some kind of software to boost my laptop's processor when connected to tablet??

Well basically you can enjoy playing games and watch videos even more on a tablet than on a phone.. And those apps that are optimized for Tablets only will take up your entire screen and make use of that by using it to display more texts and information.. And also there are some apps that are for Tablets only - so you can use them too.. And I think that's pretty much it..

Thanks for the reply, since you've mentioned that there are some appsnthat can only run on tablets, I was wondering could you actually name a few?
list of good tablet specific apps
as far as i get your query it is in relation to the abilities of a tablet as compared to a phone
a phone can do anything your tablet can do...but a tablet cant do the same
but.....
1. it has got a bigger screen size so better multimedia experience
2. in my experience a phone screen no matter how big (read less than 6 inches) always feels a bit cramped even when compared to a tablet with a 7 inch screen
3. you've got some great apps out there that look and feel better on tablets than phones
eg. office suite, netflix, kingsoft office, trulia
you wanted to know something you can do with a quad core processor
try these on a quad core and a dual core. you'll get to know the difference pretty fast-
mass effect, modern combat, real football, the dark knight, browsing the internet, watching shows and movies online etc etc
there's a lot to do on tablets
carry one to conferences. believe me it is better to use a tab in a conference than a phone

you wanted to know something you can do with a quad core processor
try these on a quad core and a dual core. you'll get to know the difference pretty fast-
mass effect, modern combat, real football, the dark knight, browsing the internet, watching shows and movies online etc etc

I have tried but all of these apps are not found on the google play store...
hmmmm...strange
it may be an issue of compatibility. go to www.play.google.com log in there and find these kinda apps. go to the install option, if these apps are compatible with your device you'll be able to send a link to the device. if not, then you can always find an apk here and there and then install them
but remember to pay for them, RESPECT DEVELOPERS ALWAYS
by the way, here and there refers to other app store for eg the amazon app store
good luck with the app hunting
