Found an awesome messaging app. The inverted one looks nice on an amoled. Now if only I could get messaging to work like it does in CM 10.2. Quick messaging was the best I've used to date.

So far yes, this is almost precisely what I was looking for. If i could have pressed the thanks button twice, I would. Now to find a way to make it expandable in the notification tray.
Thank you, I have missed the quick reply window from lock screen Wow!

Hey guys! I just found this launcher on the play store and I didn't know if you guys knew about it yet but it is basically an exact replica of ICS. It really is amazing.
Here's the link the link for you guys!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mobint.hololauncher
Make sure you go into the launcher settings and go to drawer settings and change the transition effect to "card stack" to get the full ICS effect.

Good call. I had used ICS launcher in the past but it started FCing occasionally so I switched to something else. Installed Holo launcher about a week ago and love it!

Thanks for pointing this out, giving a try. So far seems okay.
Edit:seems to be a lag with apps showing up on homescreen when returning after running an app for a while, might go back to Lightning Launcher.

Did you activate the "Keep in Memory" option in the settings? That should keep the homescreen from refreshing/reloading after using apps that are memory-intensive. I enabled that setting and haven't had any problems yet.

Yeah.. I changed it to 240 and did a Quick Reboot via ROM Toolbox. Maybe that was my issue?? I checked the setting and it saved my change, though.
Hi all,
Check out the new JellyBean 4.2 keyboard, which is like Swype only better (IMHO). http://www.theandroidsoul.com/download-android-4-2-keyboard-apk/
It allows you to swype to type, but as you are moving your finger the words it guesses show up right next to your finger. When it gets to the right word, you lift your finger, and it types the word. Very cool!
Be aware that you might have to google around to get the apk, as Google is trying to take down the leak. But it works great, and installs on your rooted phone just like any regular app.
for those who have forgotten:
Install the apk
Go to languages and input in settings and select the Android keyboard.
Go to any text box, pull down your notification bar, and select input method that way.
Enjoy!
Just installed this on my galaxy running cleanrom3.1D works great

I got this yesterday from droid life. But it don't seem to have a personal library where you can save words. I've been using swype beta for a while now and that's the best part of it. I can type my emails and passwords in and it remembers it. Saves so much time. Its a deal breaker if this doesn't include a personal library. I do like the suggested word though.
This is already in the apps and themes section.

it doesn't do the floating text on my GS3. Why is that?
I know I'm running beans custom and if you go to language and input in setting there is a personal dictionary you can select that I've been using. It stinks you can't add words straight from the keyboard but at least it's a temporary workaround.

Honestly I'd be shocked if the final version doesn't learn the words you use frequently automatically. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't let you add words manually though, Google seems to be going the apple route of less manual fiddling and more "sane defaults".
edit 1 :
Seems to be working fine on my S3 with CR3.1, hopefully we can get an update of the official release once it comes out.
edit: 2:
Scratch that "working fine" comment, I got a hot-reboot while typing which I am going to assume is because of the keyboard. Maybe you JB folks will have better luck.
Works great !!! Thank you
Android 4 Life
I downloaded the first odex Incubus JB release and deodexed with the Kitchen. I forgot how I cannot stand the stock keyboard...
Needless to say, this is a brilliant alternative.

Sure it's a good idea but I could only make it work in TW launcher for a while. Keeps crashing with Nova. I think it needs a lot of testing, but still a good idea.

Thanks for sharing though, its a good replacement for many taskswitchers
Are there any text messaging apps with a quick reply feature like in stock that I don't need root to install? I have an HTC One and came from a Galaxy Nexus and miss that feature so much. I've tried some other apps, but nothing seems to have the ability to swipe down on a notification in the notification bar and reply like that without having to go into the app. The closest I've seen is the constant notification quick message thing in Handcent.

For those of us who really don't like SMS in Hangouts for whatever reason, what SMS app are you using and what is one of the best features on it?
Thanks
Tried go sms, handcent and chomp. Don't like any of them. Would love to see the cm, or similar, messaging app as a stand alone app for all devices.

I'm not actually sure if it will work. It might not be compatible with 4.4 or it might be glitchy. In any case it would prob be best to just stick to hangouts. Not sure though. Anyone have any input if this will work?

I've installed 8SMS, set it to Standalone Mode and disabled Hangouts in Settings/Apps.
Strangely, under Settings/Wireless & networks/Default SMS, 8SMS doesn't show up. I'll be asking someone to text me soon to test that everything is working as it should be. I'll report back.
Edit: Running in Standalone mode didn't work but as soon as i deselected it i could receive SMS. Unfortunately sent messages aren't being received so i'm going back to using Hangouts for now.
I had no idea that Textra and 8sms existed until now (and I've been doing the Android thing since donut). I've been using Hangouts or the CM app, but for non rooted phones I could never find a messaging app I liked. These are beautiful and I'll be putting one on friends' phones to replace the (usually) lacking SMS stock apps.
