Sms/texting from PC - Nokia Lumia 1020

I just came from Android, and can't seem to find an app that I can text my contacts from the PC through my phone. Android has a few apps to do this DeskSMS and MightySMS.
Does Windows Phone have a similar app? I can't find one.

if you have a keyword with bluetooth facility then you just need to connect your phone with keyboard through bluetooth and you can start type text my contacts.

I think is referring to actually being able to send sms from a pc via internet. This is a great feature on Android and one of the only things holding me back from switching to the 1020.

SMS to Tablet - DeskSMS

I searched and I don't think this has been covered here yet

I used to use syncsms and while it was good it sometimes would just not work, and it utilized dropbox which I wasn't a fan of. This is awesome and uses google chat or email. All I did was create a new gmail just for this purpose and keep google talk logged into it on my tablet. Just wanted to share the wealth and all props goes to Koush who also developed RomManager, man that guy is awesome.
i love this app with the Chrome extension, but found that it was cluttering up my gchat contact list with people's phone numbers as contacts. To fix I set the app to only send emails and filter them in Gmail. I like the idea of setting up a separate email address to handle that issue.
I take it you have to side load on the TF? Market shows incompatible for TF but good for my N1
You install the app on your phone, then i use google talk to receive the messages on the transformer. The app just forwards the messages

Ah OK, got it thanks.
I use textab for this feature. Works very well.
I dont like using Bluetooth, and this way they don't need to be near eachother to work in case I forget my phone
TextTab does work well when I was using the beta, only thing I wish it did was enable upon boot. I always forget to enable it after phone or tablet boot up.
I use SynSMS except like mentioned it's not always reliable.
I like this DeskSMS so far. I can get rid of Mighty Text and SyncSMS and replace with one app.
Also with this as with SyncSMS, I can leave my phone home and on while out of the country and still get my SMS.
I use the google voice app on my transformer. It is the same as on my ATRIX. I can text and read and listen to voicemails.

I'm not quite sure how to use desksms....I downloaded it to my phone...then I put in my google account....had check boxed the gmail and google chat boxes....but nothing happens when I send an sms...I did the "test sms" from the app and it came to my phone....but that was it...nothing on the tablet...
what SMS client to I install to my tablet?
So the app can send sms, eh - that somehow worries me.
I just use google talk on my tablet to get the messages and you can respond through gtalk also

Nothing is install on the tablet, it forward your sms to Google Talk.
It work for me at first but now it does not forward amy sms to my google talk.
It does sync with my Chrome extension
mine still works, I also have the google talk desktop program and get it through there too
So if i use google voice there's no reason to use this right?
nope..not really
edit: as long as you sideload google voice onto the tablet

HTC ChaCha PC Suite.

I have bought HTC ChaCha and now I want a PC application with which I can connect my HTC ChaCha with my laptop. Earlier I was using Nokia E5 and it came with Nokia PC Suite. I must say that it was a great application. You can manage and control your cellphone from your laptop with that application, send SMS messages by typing them on your laptop, save SMS, calender, notes and contacts backup etc. However I am amazed to find that there is no such application that came with HTC ChaCha. I have searched the web and all I got was some Chinese application.

HTC sync is not even close to Nokia pc suite... First problem - connectivity...
Well, tell that to HTC then
That's the PC suite for HTC phones, made by HTC.
There is no proper PC suite software for android phones (with exeptions), and you don't need such software.
Turn on google sync in your account and set everything with it. So everything that you need, you can do by your browswer (almost).
Contacts and email (gmail).
SMS through SMS Backup+ and (there is on forum software to send messages from PC using android phone)
Ringtones (uploading) - normal USB connection in card mode
Whole backup (there are softwares in Market for it)
There's a Motorola pc- suite type app that is not motorola specific. Connects to phone by ip on same wireless network.
Can't recall name right now but I used it on a few previous androids.
sent usin' tapatalk innit.
We can safely say that Nokia was more advanced in PC Suite department. Their PC Suite was superb. No issues with connectivity. I used to type SMS messages from my laptop and they were sent from my cellphone.
Try AirDroid app
Can I also add that as pretty long time nokia user (not now thankfully) I thought pc- suite was truly awful. Poor ui - but best of a bad bunch I guess.

I guess you are talking about early versions of Nokia PC Suite. The new one is very capable and user friendly.
I hardly use the updated PC Suite for my E72. I mean... Even when I just bought the phone. I am satisfied with my Androids as they are.

Sync
try myphoneexplorer
It can even sync Lotus notes and is free. you will have to install Myphoneexplorer_setup_1.8.2 on your PC and the client software on you htc chacha.
Recent versions of Ovi (Nokia) Suite have been very powerful and incredibly useful, but very resource unfriendly. On my i5, running the Ovi Suite was a breeze but when I installed it on my lower powered laptop, it used to grind for quite a long time. Sometimes I'd have to wait for well over a minute while it would establish a connection with my 5800. It also has a lot of processes running constantly to detect your phone so you have to keep on top of those, none of them are needed really. You don't need your PC to detect your phone and when you execute the .exe to run the Suite, they are called anyway.
On the other hand, I also used the INQ (lol) PC Suite. You could tell the INQ was still a very new phone as it looked like it had been made for Windows 95. Classic themed, 90s style of UI and a little bit weird to use. Yet, it offered a surprising amount of functionality. You could send & receive SMS using it (I did for a month when I smashed the screen on my INQ). The interface was basic but it worked quite well. You could transfer music to it. Again basic interface, transfer files and folders and not really much else. Not like the nice pretty synchronization of the Ovi Suite. It had Modem functionality and it also had a few other features like being able to view call logs, internal mem/sd access and could call up certain settings. Most importantly though, it had a tiny footprint on your resources. It was so fast.
For HTC, Sync is pretty much it.
Sorry, digressed a bit there, just an interesting conversation.

Running WhatsApp Web on Android Tablet

I am looking for a way to be able to display messages that come to WhatsApp on my phone onto my Nexus 7 tablet.
Seeing as you cannot have one number registered to more than one device with WhatsApp, the only way this seems possible is to use "WhatsApp Web".
I tried out "WhatsApp Web" on my Nexus 7 Tablet using Chrome Browser and as long as you request desktop site, it seems to work brilliantly.
But here is the problem: the browser must be open at all times to be able to get notifications. So is there any way or app that allows a permanent chrome tab as a running process?
Suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

"Your phone companion" app sync with Windows 10

Hello all,
Microsoft announced support for the OnePlus 6 in their "Your Phone" app (on PC) through the "Your Phone Companion" app (on Android). It is supposed to let us see recent pictures, notifications, send messages and remote control (somewhat). https://www.xda-developers.com/windows-10-screen-mirroring-oneplus-6-6t-galaxy-s10-note-8/
I have mixed results, where I can send a SMS through my PC but I don't see my contacts, so I have to type their number in manually. I also can't see any recent messages or pictures. Also, if I turn my VPN on, then the Windows app just cannot see my OP6.
Has anyone succeeded in syncing their OP6 with their PC using Microsoft's apps?

How to transfer SMS from android phone without using an app...

Hi.
Wife has Moto G5 Play. Recently got her a Samsung A30S. I had installed SMS Backup and Restore on her phone years ago, was expecting to use that to transfer SMS. Looked at her phone and the app was not there. Checked on Google and the most recent SMS backup was 18 months ago. Tried to reinstall SMS Backup and Restore. Wouldn't install. Looked for Google Play on her phone. It was gone too (!!) I tried installing other apps for transferring SMS and Google Play on my laptop said the apps had been installed, but nothing ever appeared on her phone.
So... how can I get her SMS messages from her old phone to her new one? Is there a way to hook the phones up to my laptop and transfer them that way? Through the filesystem?
Thanks in advance!
Visit the website of Google Play on your laptop, and login with your wife's Google account on the web page.
Then find and install some app for transferring SMS on the web of Google Play.
Now, go to that Moto G5 Play, and make sure that you login with your wife's Google account in Settings - Account. Later, you will find that app on the Moto G5 Play.
At last, take advantage of that app in order to transfer SMS.
Hi James,
Thank you for taking the time to reply with some advice. Unfortunately, the process you describe is exactly what I mentioned in my original post as not working. Sorry if I was unclear (I left off that I was using her Google account). I tried to give as much detail as I could but the bottom line is that Google Play on the web says it has installed apps as I requested but they in fact do not get installed. So I'm hoping to be able to manually copy the SMS file over or possibly get a PC based application that will connect with the phone over USB and do the transfer. Thanks again for your insight... perhaps you know something that will work with these constraints?
Thanks,
Alan

I know that software, don't ever install it, if you read what data it collects you'll have goose pumps. It uses adb and sideloads an app while you're using it. Don't ever use it, honestly it's not worth it. (And yes it collects transactions info such as your card number)
Thank You

Thanks dude,
And I'm really sorry for that dangerous information. I felt really guilty after realizing it. Thanks again for providing the correct information
You can use the Bluetooth that comes with your phone without installing additional tools.
Turn on the Bluetooth on both your phones and have them paired by confirming the passcode.
Once the two phones are successfully paired, you can go to the Messaging app on the Moto G5 phone and choose the text messages that you want to send to the new device.

Don't worry now you know
But be careful with Wondershare in general, they're pretty sketchy with their privacy policy, and please take the time to read pricy policies, it's really worth it
i'm having the same problem myself.
