Will nexus 5 work in Europe? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My current phone can't work in Europe which apparently uses a different system than in the US. Will the nexus 5 work in Europe?

If you buy a nexus 5 from the US you cannot get 4G/LTE in Europe. If you buy a nexus 5 from anywhere it is sold through Google play that is not the US/Canada you will get 4G/LTE. 3G works as per normal.

As above.... everything except LTE will work if using a D820 in Europe torvalds D821 in US /Canada

What are D820 and torvalds D821?

They are the 2 models of Nexus 5 available, D820 for US and Canada, D821 for the rest of the World

hahah. You know you're a geek when your auto correct knows the name "Torvalds". I was trying to type "or a"

There is no way to have D820 working on Europe LTE ?

No because LTE uses a different frequency in europe

Yo, Brainiacs. Are you aware that Europe is not a single country ?
There are like dozen different LTE frequencies there.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_LTE_networks#Europe
Which country are we talking here about specifically ?

yop Brainiac, can't you see that all european countries use bands 3, 7 and 20 ?
So the country doesn't matter

Is this setting set in stone in the hardware, or will devs be able to hack the phone's radio firmware to get band 3/7/20 support? I don't need CDMA.

It's not a setting, but yes it is a hardware limitation

Care to explain a little bit more detailed about the hardware difference between 820 and 821, if you know?
I am just curious about what did they change that much.

Ordering nexus 5 to india from US

I wanted to know if anyone has tried ordering nexus 5 to India from US using shopandship.com or borderlinx or other similar means. If so how much did the total amount come to and how much time it took?
Incase people are wondering how to do it then here is the guide:

My friends had bought it from there and its working in India without any issue. What is the difference between D820 or D821?
Editk i found the difference. Is it possible to tell them i need D821 when i buy it from US?
No, D821 is only available outside of the US so you'll have to get it from Europe if you want/need the D821 variant

Yes, just not on 4G (unless your network uses the same 4G bands as Us networks)

As of now 3g only thanks a lot for ur help. But do u know the safest and cheaper way to ship it to India other than sending it along with someone.
Coz in india 32gb costs around 34k where as if i buy from US it will cost only 25k but i dont have anyone coming to india anytime soon
NO idea, I'm lucky enough to get it from the Play Store. Good luck
My N5 is from the US i.e. D820. Works perfectly.. And for 4G god in future may bless us with that..

It's more likely to be your network provider giving you 4g but unlikely they'll give it on same band as USA. USA are rebels. Rest of the world adhere to global (or at least national) standards

[Q] Overseas Usage

I'm moving overseas and I was wondering if my N5 will have any issues. Such as missing frequencies and what not. If so, could I flash new ones?
D821 gets LTE pretty much everywhere except North America. D820 only gets LTE in north america
HSPA and lower works on both pretty much everywhere.
Though, you haven't given specifics so I in turn, can not be specific

Its only a couple of bands. You can't change a d820 into a d821 or vice versa. Just swap a couple to work in China. There is a thread though...

Samsung devices typically are much more restricted. Not sure because of snapdragon whether it is similar. Ask in note 3 forum.

Change parts and convert a D820 to D821?

Is it possible to change the radio antenna or whatever is the hardware piece to get LTE bands of D821 (I need band 7 / 2,5 mhz in Brazil) And if its possible, what is the piece and where to buy it? (Links to Ebay very welcome! )
Anyway, thanks!
Hello friend, I am in it, but I want to convert a D821, D820 in, haha, I need the band 17 for Bolivia

you can check this for LTE, not sure about band 17. No need to replace anything. just some edit. tinkering time. [Radio] Enable LTE Band 3 and 8 on D820 and LTE Band 2 and 4 on D821

I'm not sure about that. Never tried anything other than LTE band. But theoretically speaking, it's possible. Changing parts in your phone is way messy.

H60-L04 (Bought in India) to H60-L01

Hi guys,
I bought my Honor 6 in India and am currently residing at the USA. As you would guess, only 2G works in my mobile. When I look up the frequency bands, H60-L01 has 3G (atleast) frequency bands which my network supports. Is it possible to install the ROMs of H60-L01 in H60-L04 variant? If I do install, will the 3G frequency bands of H60-L01 work in my phone? (I was googling about the frequency bands and people generally say that the mobiles might generally be capable of supporting multiple frequency bands, only, the software programming would restrict them to specific bands.)
If someone has the time to explain how/which hardware actually governs mobile data frequency bands (CPU, isn't it???) I'd be grateful.
Thanks a lot,
Jay

I doubt you'd be able to do that because its mostly a hardware setup. fixed radios and all. besides flashing another model or variants rom will definitely result in brick or bootloop

Hi Goldfin,
Thanks for your reply. I remember seeing some posts in this forum where people were given tutorials on changing Chinese Honor 6 to European model. That's why I asked.
Besides, is there a way to check the hardware's supported frequency in our mobiles?

Yes. It's more if changing region and language to have a less Chinese oriented ROM. And you can always check your phone specs on GSMarena to see what bands are supported per variant

FRD-L04 European band support

Hi all, I ordered a 32 GB Pearl White (presumably FRD-L04) on Amazon's Black Friday sale, I live in the UK, had it shipped to a friend in the US. According to hihonor, the phone should support all the US and UK bands. According to FrequencyCheck, only the 64GB (FRD-L14) US model supports the European bands 3 and 20. Which is correct? If the phone I ordered won't support 3 and 20, I may as well return it now.
Thanks!
I also bought Honor 8. Only difference is that US version is single sim and much more LTE bands. According to official site it should support that bands.
I finded here specifications for all versions: http://www.smartphonerankings.com/huawei-honor-8-frd-l04/

Yes, I believe FrequencyCheck is wrong, but it claims the European bands 3 and 20 are only supported in FRD-L14 (the 64 GB version) and not in FRD-L04. Hopefully this is untrue.

Hey guys, can you update on this?
I'm studying abroad in England for 5 months and I have this exact model of the Honor 8, and wanted to know if I can get a reliable 4G LTE connection while I'm in England... I'm going to get a plan with Vodafone, EE, or O2 when I get there. If you could let me know, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

That's why I'm asking the 2 people who commented in this thread, they live in the UK and can tell me for sure.
Here you go here is a list for radio bands compatibility list for Honor FDR04 /14 /01 AND 14 for use in UK with most of the providers..
www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/K0BOsOx/huawei-honor-8-dual-sim-lte-a-frd-l04/united-kingdom
You can select any country by the way.. If I were you op for Virgin mobile or Plusnet both run off EE but have better signal and deals to the overs..
I bought the FRD-L09 model while I was overseas and I live in the USA, the salesperson assured me it would work on 4G here but it definitely doesn't... If you still have the FRD-L04 model would you be willing to trade? Mine is the blue 32G model and it is basically new, I bought it about a month ago. I love the phone but only having 3G is killing me...

Thanks for this, but as someone stated above, I think Frequency Check is wrong here. According to Huawei Customer Care team on Amazon, the supports bands 3, 7, and 20 which are used for LTE in the UK, while Frequency Check doesn't have those.
I have posted a picture of both Huawei's listed network frequencies compared to Frequency Check's.
I never even knew that Honor released a single SIM variant of the Honor 8. I thought all Honor 8's were dual SIMs.
I can confirm Frequency check is wrong. I'm not back in the UK yet but I'm getting LTE on SoftBank in Japan. A warning - this model follows the American practice of calling 3G "4G". Only "4G LTE" actually means 4G.

I think it's because not every country use every bands so Honor indicates only bands used for specific country.
I make an example: Band 20 could be used in USA but not in UK so indicates on UK version it have Band 20 is useless for UK's people
