No updates at this time

Unlock your bootloader, install custom recovery, install whatever ROM you want.

The update was for HOX in Asia, not HOXL. If you haven't gotten any update prompt, that means there is no update. What's the confusing part?
I agree with timmaaa...it makes no sense staying on the stock ROM. if you're not doing it because of warranty, the HOXL has been out since June 2012 which means they won't help you hardware-wise
Sent from my HTC One XL using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

There have been updates released for the HOXL for HTC in Asia, they were among the first to be released, refer to the RUU & OTA thread. Even though the phone has been out since May 2012, if the user has recently bought the phone he's still under warranty.

Unfortunately, that doesn't really mean anything. Folks have had issues checking for updates, when an update is known to exist. And no RUUs exist yet for Android 4.2.2/Sense 5, so you cannot update manually by RUU (which would be the sure solution). Some folks have had success with doing a factory reset (somehow makes the update come through) but its not guaranteed by any means. Or you can try to download the flash the OTA manually with stock recovery (not personally knowledgeable about the process).

This forum is not even really for your variant of the HTC one xl, xda does not have a forum for your device.

My One S shipped with incompatible software for the OTA

Hello when looking at the minimum requirements for the OTA I saw that my software version on my phone is older then the needed to get the upgrade. So far no OTA notification and manual check fails every time. Any help on what I should do?

Root it and enjoy. There's an HTC One X thread about routing without unlocking the boatloader, but it doesn't work on the latest ota update.

I don't know what software version you have, doesn't match any of these. I would take it to a TMO store and say WTF?
It's just super weird. I never altered the software or anything. It just came like this which messes with my ability to update.

Got mine today and it is same as OP . I was wondering why it was saying no update available. Hmmm

The replacement phones, and very few initially shipped phones come with 0.15 baseband.
Those devices won't update to the new OTA. You have to first find the TMOUSS RUU for 0.16 in the development section and run it. Then when your baseband is updated to 0.16 you will be able to update to the new OTA.
edit - at least this is what happened with me. maybe it works on someone else's.

What software number does your phone say it is on? If it has the R2 in it I don't think you'll be able to get the update. It's different than stock. Stock doesn't have the R2 in it.

[Q] Question on Software update/warranty, etc

I'm new to this site, just registered. Sorry i'm a noob!! So I have had the Blue Tmobile One S since august but sold that one to my friend and bought a black one from a guy and said it's from solavei, So I try it and everything seems legit except It's running Android 4.0.3 and Sense 4.0. So I go to menu>Software updates>check now to see if I can get the OTA they had in September but it says I am currently up to date. I checked my sotfware information and it said my software number was 1.84.1135.17 71ORD. I look online to see if I can some how download it and it told me that if I don't have these two other numbers and had something else then the warranty is void and I can't get updates. So My big question is how can I change my software number? Do I have to like root my phone? Then some how unroot it back to a different stock ROM? I'm open to suggestions and I would really like an answer thanks!!

If you're on 1.84 I would not update via OTA. You probably have a 1.06 or .09 hboot, which will be extremely nice for you.
I would suggest unlocking your bootloader via HTC and installing TrickDroid if you want stock. There arr several guides, including a all in one tool to help you with the process.

You can try typing *#*#CHECKIN#*#* into the dialer and then checking for updates.
Or you can find a T-Mobile US 2.35 RUU and running that. However it will be more difficult to flash ROMs once you have upgraded if you want to do that later on.

I tried that and all it did was say in my notifications "checkin succeeded" and nothing else happend.. so idk about that. I'm not really looking to root my phone, all I really want to do is have my phone run on the latest software and get OTA updates if possible. But if I need to root it, I will. And for the second thing, I'd have to root my phone to run the 2.35 right?

After "checkin succeeded" you should then check for updates in Settings, as I mentioned earlier.
You seem to be running an "ORD" build which is basically like a Beta test for the latest software. RD stands for Research & Development. The latest 2.35 RUU should work without rooting.
However that will upgrade your HBOOT and make it more difficult if you decide to root later on.

If OP has any desire to root and flash custom ROMs, I agree. Just root and unlock bootloader now. Then update to whatever stock rooted or custom ROM you like.
If OP wants to stay stock, then get the RUU from the HTC website. RUU will wipe the phone, but its a cleaner install than OTA, and less likely to cause problems anyway.
I had the same problem. Download the rom from HTC .com connect to pc and install rom.

[Q] 4.2.2 update with Sense 5+

I did a search, but couldn't find a definitive answer to this question:
When the official ATT update comes out with 4.2.2 and Sense 5+, is there a danger in accepting the update with my phone in its present state?
Thanks,
Dan
Phone information:
HTC One X (AT&T version)
ROM: Stock 4.1.2 (from the HTC RUU site - I never got the OTA update)
Rooted
S-Off
TWRP 2.3.3.1
HBOOT-2.14.0000
Thanks for your help!
No as you have custom recovery. Just wait for a rooted flashable zip.

Like all of these rumors, I'll believe it when I see it. I'ts completely without risk for someone to say these things are going to happen - if they DO, those people look like geniuses, and if they don't, no one calls them on it.
Nevermind I'll restrain myself.

HTC themselves did say they intend to update the one x to 4.2.2 sense 5 BUT technically, I don't believe they specified the dual core version so who knows.
HTC is Great with build quality and design but they are SO SLOW with updates. by the time Sense 5 comes out it will probably be time for a new phone anyway.

You should consider any update offered by HTC as a moderate to high risk to a modded phone or a phone you want to mod.
HTC do not support a phone once it has been modded.
Any update may brick your device, prevent you unlocking, rooting, modding etc.
That said with supercid and soff the risks are reduced but not eliminated. Any update expects your phone to be stock, if it is not any amount of unknown things could go wrong.
If/when an update comes out you should only accept the update if you are willing to accept a bricked device. The risk reduces if others are saying they succeeded, but sometimes it takes time before it is fully clear of any quirks to updating. Eg JB with supercid on s-on AT&T devices caused many lost devices.

I doubt you could fathom the amount of time and work that goes into rom development. Many roms are developed by teams. imagio is one person, let's not create any more pressure than the pressure he puts on himself. That's how you push someone into stopping development. If you really want to push him to do timely updates the best way is with frequent, large donations.
Twistedddx, while your post is 100% accurate, I think it's pretty safe to assume that it will fall on deaf ears for the type of people within this community. Personally, while this phone is just perfect as it is right now, a brick is just the perfect reason to upgrade lol

after that it just disappear and nothing happens.
I guess you can't get it that way then? Is there any particular reason you specifically want the official at&t update and not one of the already available custom 4.2.2 ROMs?

Bricking only occurs due to ignorance, unlocking a phone is perfectly safe, but it's your choice. If someone posts the update you can probably install it manually through the stock recovery, but this update looks like a two stage process so it might be more complicated.

I assume that you mean SIM (subsidy) unlocked, as the term "unlocked" is quite vague, and can mean various things (such as unlocked bootloader).
You will not get the OTA notification outside the US.
If your phone is stock, and you intend to keep it that way, that you will have to wait for the RUU to be posted on the HTC support website. Then download and run from a Windows PC with the phone connected by USB.
