Would it be detrimental to use the stock charger that came with the 2012 Nexus 7 to charge the device? I asumme they're different voltages or amps, but not sure if the Nexus 7 charger can adapt? Cheers!

im charging mine on my N7 charger, i also charged my N4 on it, no problems
I'm using different chargers (Samsung, HTC, Motorola) and all of them are working fine with my Nexus 5 as well as with the I9100 my wife is using.
One word of precaution.
I used a car charger that outputs 2.1A with my galaxy S4 while driving and using the navigation for about 8-10 hours.
Eventually the phone's mobile and GPS chips died.
The phone cannot lock any signal whatsoever.
Before I'd been using the phone for 1 months without a single problem.

Considering you used it to 10 hours, the device probably got super hot which is compounded by the device being charged at the sametime so hardware failure isn't a surprise.

they are both Lithium Poly chargers. you'll be fine
you can always use any charger that fits! All micro-usb chargers are 5V so there are never any issues for the phone. Type of batteries etc does not matter. It is only the voltage that matters. The max current (Ampere) of the charger affects charging time as long as the ampere is lower than the max current the phone can handle.
The "charger" only provides a stable voltage with over-current protection, nothing else, all battery related intelligence is placed in the phone.

I've used my Nexus 7 2012 2A charger and my Anker 2A portable battery pack to charge various different phones including N4, N5 and HTC One without any issues-the phone's charging circuits will not allow them to charge at a higher current than the phone would like.
My worry with that charger would be the quality of it being a cheap Ebay special. Probably won't damage your device but then again it might, plus will it actually charge at 2A anyway?
Using a 5v 2.0 A charger should be fine. USB chargers are all 5V. The nexus 5 comes with a 1.2A charger. Using the 2A charger won't cause any harm because the phone itself draws the current it needs.
However, I did notice that while using my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 charger that has an output of 2A, that it started to charge my nexus at 1.5A.
So using a 2A charger over the 1.2A charger that came with the Nexus, will actually charge the phone about .3A faster
But you do have to watch who you buy it from. Some chargers don't output at the rate they are supposed to.

It's a 2A Quickcharge 1.0 unit. Quickcharge boosts the voltage (to ~9v from 5v) when the phone is less than 50%, so you can't get just ANY 2 amp charger and expect it to work as quickly.
If you care (or are willing to wait) Quickcharge 2.0 wall plugs should ship in ~2 months. That boosts the input to 15 volts (IIRC) and will supposedly charge from 0% to 100% in about 45 minutes.
yeah I guess I can wait. I can always keep an old 1a plug by the bed for long overnight charges.

For some unknown reason, I have a 2.1 amp car charger and cheap 1 amp ac charger. My HTC One M7 charge slow but the Note 4 charge much faster using the same charging device. I dont know what it is, but I like it!
So the charger on Samsung's website is not the same one that came with the Note 4?

Not sure it has anything to do with the Fast Charging hardware. The Fast Charging works with the provided charger, which is a dual voltage one. I used my iPhone's/iPad's car charger with my Note 4 and didn't notice a speed-up in charging time.
On a tangential note: I can't find anyone who sells the Note's fast charger separately yet and I needed another one for use with the Note 4 at the office. So I used the Asus charger that came with my original 3G Nexus 7 (which remains forgotten on a shelf). It works pretty well. I noticed that the Asus charger charged all my handsets (HTC One M8, Nexus 5, Z2, Oppo Find 7) pretty reliably -- the M8 and Nexus 5 seemed to charge faster compared with their stock chargers.
Anyone who's held the Asus charger knows it's a little bit bulkier and a few ounces weightier than the usual chargers that come with smartphones these days so there may be a hardware component to it. Whatever it is, it's probably the best standalone charger I've had the cables connect via a USB port so you can use it with your iPhone too.
If you can find at a garage sale or some random tech shop, you should pick one up. Works great with everything.

So apparently the Note 4 fast charger is no longer considered fast charging for the note5.. anyone else experiencing anything differently?
My note 4 and 5 chargers are both 9v 1.67 A. Both charge exactly the same
