This is starting to bug me..... for no reason the 4g connection and even when I turn off the mobile network, wait a few minutes and turn it back on, it still wont work until I reboot the phone. Sometimes rebooting it doesn't work and I have to pull the battery.
Anyone know whats causing this? When this is happening I see the ^ arrow on the 4g connection lit up like a christmas tree but nothing is uploading and theres no data connection....... HELP!
Mine dropped Last night for the first time. When I first got the phone it flip from 3g to 4g at my job. Last night finally went dead. I rebooted and still no network. Then I used the new LTE switch to keep it @3g only. It worked.

Where do you get the LTE switch?
I have seen it step down to 3g and back up to 4g LTE but its just sometimes 4g just chokes for no reason......
Surprise u didn't hear about it. Its a free app. If it was a paid app it would sell like hot bread. Check the market. I can't post a link yet since I'm brand new to the site

You also go to your dialer and type in *#*#4636#*#* to get to the menu.
same issue here Philadelphia sub
when i bought the phone, it is very easy to get 4G in my home and work
and recently, I only can get 3G in home and 1x in work.
and it is not stable, very easy to drop.

Hey Stoneskin,
I live in Hawaii and I have the very same issue as well. I picked up 4g easily in the "so called" extended 4g coverage region when I first got the TB. Then about the middle of last week, poof, no more 4g except for in the true 4g areas. My thought is because so many people were having 4g connectivity issues in these extended area, VZW simply stopped allowing it as a troubleshooting measure that apparently is still going on. I brought this up to VZW tech support and they were clueless as usual. I also posted in the VZW Community Forum hoping to get an answer, but none thus far.
you could try dialing ##778# and pressing send, select edit mode, password is 000000 and then under modem settings change it to rev A. then press the menu button to save and reboot. it has helped me out in the El paso area. friend showed it to me the other day Far as i can tell is that it disables the new network that allows voice and data at the same time since that's the only difference i have noticed other than not loosing my connection anymore. I just a heads up this does not work on the latest version of virus rom RC1B3 sensless but did with previous version and several other roms i had tried

Thanks for the tip, but it didn't work. VZW must have changed something to where extended coverage area no longer get 4g. Only those in true 4g areas. I really think this has a lot to do with the folks experiencing the constant drop 4g issues. They must have rationalized that if the extended area for 4g is not up to par and forcing 3g would be better. Only way I can explain it. From consistent 4g to only 3g. I sure miss the speeds.
Is there anyway to toggle the Inspire to use only EDGE or GPRS for data?
When I used my Inspire in Europe with a european SIM card, I could only get GPRS, which worked fine for checking e-mails and whatnot, but made a huge difference in battery life.
It would be nice to be able to toggle from H+ to either edge or GPRS so that I still get e-mails in the background while saving battery life, but have the ability to toggle back to H+ when I want to surf, etc.
Thanks!
There is. Enter this into your dialer *#*#4636#*#* then select phone information and under "set preferred network type" select GSM only. This is the only way that I know how to do this.
Certain roms give you the option to change networks by going into wireless and networks and selecting mobile networks. Virtuous lets you I think.

THANKS!
I don't suppose anyone has an App to do this automatically?
My inspire is stock, so I don't use different ROMS.
Edit: I tried saving the number as a contact, but didn't work...
Thanks
EDIT: Typed the *#*#4636#*#* code into market, and there are several apps that automatically get you to the phone info screen. Downloaded one called Phone Info.
Thanks

Edge (E) doesn't stick. Switches back to H+ after a few seconds. Anyway to make it stick on a stock ROM?

Hmmmmm... Is network settings different than Settings | Wireless & Networks?
In Wireless & Networks I see no place where I can select 2G.
I remember it being there, though I haven't ran stock in a while, maybe I'm mistaken

Do you see an option mobile networks? Click that and see if you see it there
So witless &networks>mobile networks> select 2g

It is there. At least on my ROM. Stock Desire HD ROM. Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network mode > Select GSM only. My phone immediately switched to "E". and stayed there. Can't believe I never noticed this here before.

The inability to switch to Edge or 2G will cost AT&T this customer when my contract is up. At work my phone is useless as it tries to hang onto the smallest trace of H+ instead of switching to 2G. When it switches to 2G for short amounts of time I get 2 bars and I can use the phone. Ten seconds later it goes back to H+ with no bars and I lose the connection. All this while my colleagues with Verizon or Sprint have solid 2 bars minimum 3G signal.
If I could set the phone to 2G (using the stock ROM) I would be happy.

You are in a marginal area. I have this problem at home, which is why I run a Microcell. Fortunately, I get a better signal at work. I assume my previous WinMo device had a much better radio because I got excellent reception with it at work, although data was slower. At home, I shared the same frustration of having a crappy 3g connection, when I could have a good edge connection with steady bars and no ability to lock it. I don't understand AT&T's decision with this.

itd be really nice if people who have been running a non-stock rom since 2 days after they got their phone would stop commenting on threads where they obviously have no clue what they are talking about. Ive been searching around for this 3g/4g toggle solution and in no less then 4 of the threads (everyone ive looked in) some dope is telling us ITS THERE ON THE STOCK ROM.
No its not, and your wasting everyones time.
Thanks
/rant
If it is not there then why do you keep wasting your time looking? Who is the dope now?
Do I really need to say it? Lets keep it civil. Now if it is not there on stock then it is not there. Simple. Let it go.
When my phone shows the H symbol for network, it works well, but when I'm not using the network (no traffic), it falls back into 3g and gets stuck on upload. Occasionally, H service will come back, but often it won't. I have found if I turn the screen off, H service is restored.
I have had this problem for months now. I have a i9020a. Currently I have CM9 April 8th nightly installed, using the i9020AUCKJ1 radio. I just got done reverting to the stock build recently released from Google (IMM76D, I think), then upgrading to CM9.
No matter what I've done, nothing has worked:
1. reverting to stock then upgrading to a custom rom (Team-Kang, CyberGR, CM9, etc);
2. trying different radios;
3. opening phone info (*#*#4636#*#*) and changing it to GSM auto PRL as well as setting the band to USA;
4. making sure the APN is correct;
5. restoring the IMEI backup;
Any ideas what the issue could be?
H is 3G. Only active while data is being actively sent/received and it is actually feasible to use in your current area. Also, are you sure it is not only the animation that gets stuck?
Is there an actual problem, though? Is something not working quite right (data, sync, notifications, etc)?
It gets stuck on UMTS:3 (just keeps trying to upload) and won't work again until I turn off the screen and then it will usually revert to HSDPA:9.

While taskiller certainly kills most running processes, it does nothing to help my network connection.
On a separate note, my roommate has the same phone and his maintains a steady HSDPA:9 connection without ever dropping into a UMTS:3 connection.

The normal behavior of the phone is to use HSDPA while it's in need(download/upload) , when not in use automatically goes to UMTS:3
What ROM your room mate is using ? model ? radio ? network ?

You're talking totally rubbish ... Killing apps will not enhance anything and may even slow things down by needing more CPU power to open auto apps again...
I have expereinced the same issues with my 9020a on ATT. Sent phone to Samsung twice, changed SIM cards 4 times. Updated radios, now on 4.0.4 getting about 120 kbps download speeds while my other phone (work phone), iphone4s on att, gets about 5 mbps.
Call att, they credited me my entire months bill and offered a free galaxy note with a 2 year agreement. My thought is that ma' bell is just killing any unlocked phone or there are issues related to "LTE" rollout they wont admit to that is causing a disruption with 3.5G.
Anyways to the OP, you aren't alone. I too hope someon can help!
My roommate is using the same rom, CM9 (nightly from 3/29 though), radio is i9020xxkb3, network is also AT&T with same plan.
Watching the About Phone/Status on his phone, it stays on HSDPA:9.
My returns to UMTS:3 when not in use, but when in this mode, I get no network traffic at all. I will flash upload but will never download anything. Occasionally, H service will be restored, and I will get my network connection back.

At work in a particular lab area, I have 4-5 bars of "4G" connection... it shows Connected on the mobile network...
However, I have no access... it does not have any data connection and voice calls do not come in or go out...
Anybody have any suggestions on what may be the problem?
It's a known issue. Either reboot the phone or put it in airplane mode then turn airplane mode off. If rebooting turn off fast boot in power options.
What exactly is the issue and is it fixed in the latest leak?
Nobody knows what causes it, it's just a random problem. Sometimes even rebooting and airplane mode don't work for me
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Not sure why it happens. I never saw it myself. What firmware are you on now?
1.85.. I did airplane mode, then it picked up lte but weak signal... now it says no signal... why can't it just connect to the non lte connection and actually be connected... :-/
I've heard that getting a new sim card can fix it. If that doesn't work exchange the phone. It should fall back to hspa if it can't get lte
restarted, now it shows full strength LTE... but still no activity... it shows an upload signal, but nothing down... and goes straight to voicemail when called...
Now it fell back to no signal... guess I'll try a new simcard first... then go from there... I think my first one was similar in doing this as well, so maybe it is the sim card...
Good luck!
Now its back on the 4G but no connectivity... which is VERY ANNOYING...
I know some places I've had 4G (no LTE) and it has worked... it could be this lab... but, doesn't make sense why it shows signal strength but just doesn't work...
I have experienced this issue when I drive from HSPA area to LTE. It doesn't always quickly switch to LTE and shows 4G. But, doesn't connect. As others mentioned, turning on/off airplane mode takes care of it.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Well... seems like my phone just works once in a while... doesn't stay connected and is switching between LTE and 4G, 4G having the much better signal quality... but neither one of them seeming to work after it has switched one time... so is this likely a sim card issue? Or just a flaw in the one x?
I had a similar issue after flashing a new Rom. phone was showing 4g but if I dug deeper it actually wasn't connected. I pulled the sim and threw it back in, no problems since then.
Centex, you should stop working in a secret lab deep in the earth's crust

yeah, mine will show connected... tried pulling the sim just to try that... and same problem... Will run by store to get new SIM at lunch today...

How in the heck can I get this phone to connect to LTE and stay connected? Sometimes it will connect then when I make a call it won't reconnect no matter what I try. They have sent me two different phones. Same problem. I have changed the Sim card also. Is there an app that will help that won't run the battery down real fast? They say the tower is fine but I think it isn't. When I do connect I get 20 down 9 up or so. Thanks to anyone who may help. And yes I've googled it. Lol

it could just be your local area. im in nyc, and on tmo, and am on lte 100% of the time. when you make phonecalls, it will switch from lte to 3G/H, as its supposed to, because the lte doesnt support voice. and while theres data flowing over your network, it wont switch back to lte until the data stops flowing. and no, no app will help you.
Are you using a custom ROM? If so check your APN sometimes it'll default to metro PCs LTE

during calls, it'll drop off LTE and go to 3G
after the call, it should go back to LTE (if your signal has no problems) ...
not sure if you are complaining about the no-LTE-reconnect-after-call problem or no-LTE-during-call problem

I'm speaking that when I'm in a LTE area that my phone won't connect at all. It will sometimes if I pull the Sim card and reinsert it. But tmobiles engineers say the tower is operating properly. Between myself and my son we have had 4 nexus 5's. Whenever I'm by the other tower in town with LTE phone works great. fallback to hspa and then reconnecting to lte works flawless when connected to the other tower. But they say there is no tower issue and sent me another phone.
