Is there a list of safe system apps to remove for this Galaxy S 4G?
There is, but you have to search for it. I'm on my phone and the search function sucks.
u must root the phone to gain access to root files and delete bloatware apps or pre installed apps but b4 u delete them be sure to back them up with a something like titanium backup so if u need warantee work u can re-install them

This only work if your running a KJ6 rom , not Froyo.
I recently rooted my Skyrocket (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526) but am unable to delete apps. I have full superuser access and have even installed a custom ROM already, but the only option when I go to "manage apps" is to delete the updated version. I've even tried deleting the apps using Launcher Pro's method (long holding on the trash icon) and it just says "Uninstall unsuccessful."
So, what gives? Why am I rooted and don't have full access over my apps??

EDIT: Also, just to add, I have apps that came with the stock phone (like AP Mobile, AccuWeather, etc.) that I can see in the manage applications list under ALL but they aren't in my app drawer. So I get the worst of both worlds: some apps I can't access and can't uninstall!
Root doesn't change the fact that the apps are protected system apps. The default uninstaller will still stop you from fully removing them.
You can easily download a free app from the market, such as Root Uninstaller, to remove protected system apps. Just be careful, as you can so remove vital system apps crucial to the operation of android with root Uninstaller. Only remove apps you are sure won't hurt the system.

Many of the roms don't have the bloat. Look them over and see if any fit your needs. You'll need rom manager (marketplace). Before flashing any of the roms for this phone, read the threads associated with each one, so you'll have an idea about any issues. Make sure you also understand the consequences of flashing a rom.
You dont need rom manager. I dont use it. But some people prefer it.

Keep in mind. You can flash the stock recovery tar and still take an ota update. But if you delete bloat you can not. Youll have to flash back to stock. Unless you have a nandroid backup with bloat intact.

For those who are new to this, like me, it is the easiest way, after looking over some of the guides.
And if you choose to use rom manager. You have to select the tmobile galaxy s2. Skyrocket is not listed. But it is almost an identical phone.
Just download titanium backup, it can uninstall protected apps.

Thanks for the help everyone. I just moved from the Atrix which didn't have protected systems apps after bypassing the bootloader.
I ended up installing "Sky Ice Cream Sandwich" which I thought didn't have bloatware but it still shows up... And I did use ROM Manager but that was just because I wanted to get into CWM easier.
Anyway, I found a list of apps I can uninstall here so I'll just be using Titanium Backup since I've already purchased it.

can't delete system apps
Hello. Pls help me to solve my problem. I've already rooted my HTC desire 620 but I still can't delete my system apps(no root permissions). Also doesn't works another apps with(root needs)

I'm owning a HTC One S since a few days, rooted, and I'm wondering about the best way to back up my device.
Actually I'd like to know what is the most powerful (i.e. more complete) backup app/method: Titanium/Go Backup (or similar), nandroid, or this one: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/ultimate-backup-tool-no-root-required/ ?
If I wipe my cell, which method will allow me to restore it with same apps installed, same icons at the same place, same data and settings for each app (just like a Norton Ghost/Acronis TrueImage)? I think it's the nandroid backup, but I'm not an expert...
2nd question : if I loose this phone and I buy a new one (exact same), will I be able to restore my backup in the new one? Would it work?
3rd question : what about a non-rooted device (thinking to my wife's One V)? can I do a "Ghost" of her phone BEFORE I unlocked her phone's bootloader?

anyway, I read more and here is what I understood: nandroid will backup everything like a Ghost, including the ROM. Titanium Backup will backup my apps and data, but not the widgets and homescreen, and Go Backup will backup apps/data/widgets/homescreen.
By saying "apps and data" does it mean "app settings" ?

Don't know about go, but you are correct on everything else. App data is settings saved stuff etc, it's everything about that app. If you restore an app with data it will be exactly as it was when the backup was made.
You do need root to backup using titanium, but I think there are ways to back up some stuff, using other methods, but I don't know them.

OK, question two, yes. Backup the folder from your sd card to a PC. If you get a new phone just copy it to the new phones sd card install titanium (or whatever you used) and restore.
As for three I think you need to be unlocked to install a custom recovery so I don't think so.
Edit: nandroids (what you refer to as a ghost) are done through a custom recovery.

You can, just need to find the system setting for the launcher and backup the data. As long as your new rom uses that same launcher. For example cm uses trebuchet. Apex and Nova are two popular third party ones. Widgets aren't saved though, everything else is.
If you're not using a launcher like apex or Nova I highly recommend you try it. I can't imagine going back to the stock launcher. Plus you don't have to worry about what launcher the rom uses, just back up your third party one like any other app and install on your new rom. Then hit home, set it as default, simple.

I just flashed my first custom ROM...went from rooted GB to CM7.2.0...no problems...flashed the ROM, Gapps package, & padded modem (although I have no idea what a padded modem is). When I started to restore apps + data using Titanium Backup, the restore process locked up on Bluetooth Perm Test. Since I am inexperienced, I flashed back to GB. TB did a perfect restore, including putting my icons back where I had them. Anyone have any ideas why the restore locked up?

OK...I see where "backup all user apps" is an option....but all the restore options include restoring data. I guess I could restore the user apps one at a time although that might be fairly time consuming. Any other thoughts?

I think under batch actions when you choose to restore all backed up stuff it gives you the option to restore app+data, just app or just data. I think that as long as you're staying in gingerbread the user app data shouldn't cause any problems.

If you've already gone back to stock wipe out all the backups and only backup user apps that way when you get back to cm7 the system stuff won't show up and mix things up
When restoring apps, only select the ones you want... those checks on the left aren't just decorations.
Titanium pro (donate) has the option to restore a batch of however you desire... well worth the money

I do have the paid version...the 5 batch restore options are:
1. Restore missing apps with data
2. Restore all apps with data
3. Restore all system data
4. Restore missing apps + all system data (I know I'm not supposed to use this one)
5. Restore newer versions of user apps
There is also the option of creating an "update.zip" from app+data backups...I'm assuming that to restore, you would flash this like a ROM.
When I tried to restore the first time...and it locked up during "Bluetooth Perm Test"...I was using the #2 option..restore all apps with data.
There's also the filter options.
I've never had any luck restoring data across platforms, so, I just stopped...
Should have done option 1, which lets you pick which apps you want to restore.

Original problem
I have been having problems restoring apps with titanium backup and so far no one has been able to find the solution, I couldn't find a solution on google and titanium backup support isn't responding to my support request. Anyways, I'm trying to restore apps from pandasa123's unofficial cyanogenmod to matrixzone's unofficial cyanogenmod. When I restore on the free version it opens install window and then when it says installing it changes to app not installed. Suspected problem apps are Bloons TD 5, Drunken Wrestlers and Star Wars: Commander. When I had the free version, it seems after trying to restore drunkin wrestlers and it says app not installed then all the apps after say app not installed except a few like google authenticator. I tried again with the paid version and it still got stuck restoring things like drunkin wrestlers, bloons td 5, star wars commander. I have already tried the troubleshooting steps in tibu and have tried multiple times to restore. I have also tried older versions no luck. I could successfully restore those apps when I went from 4.4.4 to 5.0.
Also would there be any work around to manually restore the apps? Any other backup apps that are good?
Device: Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M

I had a problem where i couldn't uninstall system apps with Titanium backup, i eventually found out the directory for apps is different on 4.0 ice cream sandwich than on 4.4.2 kitkat.

They are backed up to my external SD card.

Thanks, I don't restore any of my apps from the play store (unchecked "All Apps" in the restore screens on initial setup of the rom) but do have some games connected to Google Play Games. Would this solution still possibly work?
It still doesn't restore properly and it seems to also get stuck on a new game I downloaded called LogoMania too. I didn't add a Google account at setup until I had to go to the play store to download tibu and tibu pro but made sure auto restore was off in settings. I also unchecked the malware detection in google settings and saved the apps to my internal instead of external sd but still no luck.
You're more likely to have problems restoring entire apps with Titanium Backup than just restoring data; if you are having problems, try reinstalling the app from whichever source it came from, then restore data.
I've never had problems restoring data between roms, but I've read many warnings against restoring apps when changing roms.

So in order to only restore data, I would:
1. Install the app from Google Play
2. In tibu, do a batch restore and select "data only" instead of "apps+data"
Is that correct?

Yes.
One important step before you restore is the verify the backups. Go into TB->batch->Verify Backups. See if everything is okay with no errors.
Also, remember some apps may not be compatible with your upgraded Android version.

I verify every time. Also, I'm on android 5.0.2 already trying to get to another 5.0.2 rom I believe.
One more thing I forgot to mention: if you want to recover an app, try to recover it without data. Recovering data for apps between CM versions, or even app versions, can cause headaches sometimes (especially Google apps).
Also, TB has a website with help. Maybe there is an answer in the docs to help you.
