[Q] Moto G (Music Edition) vs S4 Mini Dual - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Currently I have an Y Duos (S6102GT) and, generally speaking, it serves me well, however some things bother me about it:
- The camera suck
- Internal Storage is too small
- The size of the screen
I play mostly casual games, just for passing the time, he is a limited phone after all, however with more power I think I would play more.
My doubt now is which new phone I should choose, between Moto G Music Edition (Colors already sold up on brazil), or the S4 Mini.
I know S4 mini beats Moto G on almost every aspect of comparison, which could lead it to a better utility velue, howevar it's price is considerably higher.
Moto G on the other hand, has a bigger screen (and screen quality ????), comes with Android closer to the pure version, and in that case still comes with a headphone from Solrepublic
So, which one do you think it's best for me?
PS: I'm accepting other offers as well, but it needs to be dual chip.

I think you are wrong. Moto G beats almost every aspect of S4 mini. Only plus of Samsung: SD card and maybe the camera.
But as ever, you should touch both devices with your own hands.

But doesn't S4 mini have a 1.7GHz dual core and 1.5GB RAM and Moto G on the other hand has a 1.2GHz quad core and 1GB RAM ?
I think in that case that S4 mini is best on the technical side (and if not, please let me know because that's the only reason for me to still consider the S4 mini )

I choosed the Moto G, i had the same through. Shop allowed me to test both, and i kinda found the Moto G much smoother in many things. Only positive was the Camera of the S4 Mini, Pictures where a tad better.

The Moto G is by far the most responsive phone I've used. That might not say much, try it yourself, you'll understand

If I wait for the moto G to get here I will lose the black friday deal

S4 mini has LTE. The G has only hspa+ 21 (nexus 4 has hspa+ 42). Also S4 mini is significantly (imho) smaller in length, width, thickness, and weight. Go here to compare. Click "VIEW LAYERED"
I don't have either phone, but I would say its IMPOSSIBLE for me to go with a screen that is under 300 ppi, hence the G would be it for me between the two.

[Q] Help Please, not sure which phone to get?

Hello, I live in the UK and I got a Samsung Galaxy S for Christmas, but now I'm returning it to Amazon for a refund because I paid £250 for it and it's only a single core, so I think that a Dual Core phone would be a much more worthwhile purchase, and would last longer. (and I had the lag issue on SGS).
Now, the problem is I'm not sure which one to get. The Galaxy S II is off the list because of price (£400+), and the HTC Sensation is good but I'll probably have to wait a bit before I can afford it (£330 at the moment).
This leaves me with the LG Optimus 2X - only £250, however I'm really skeptical about this one, as people keep saying it keeps rebooting and freezing etc etc. It's a shame because my mind was set to go for the LG
So yeah, I'm really confused now. Can anybody give any advice?
How about Galaxy R ??
Same as S2 but with scLCD Display

Thats still insanely expensive...
I'm seriously considering buying an MI-ONE.
I watched some reviews and i'm impressed by quality/price of this phone (~£250).
It has an Snapdragon MSM8260 dual-core CPU 1.5 GHz with the Adreno220 and 1Gb of Ram with an MIUI based ROM and unlocked bootloader.
The only thing that stoped me so far is the lack of support in my country (must shippit to china 4 warranty).
Galaxy S+ is also a good single Core option
i suggest a Samsung Galaxy Wonder, although it's also just single core it's not that big and has a really good appearance. all phones do lag my friend and it can't be avoided, even an i3 computer lags too, so i would say it's a part of devices and you shouldn't worry about it. better choose the one with the looks
Not sure what the price is there in the UK, but I really love my Motorola Bionic. Dual core 1GHz and 1 GB RAM. 8 Meg forward camera and 1.3 Meg rear for video chat. 4.3 inch (11 cm) screen. Super fast.
if i were u i keep galaxy s , its a good phone , what u want from a mobile ?? a good camera ? if u want good camera dont buy galaxy s becasue it dont have flash however in dayligh its a good camera .
you can buy a desire hd htc

Moto G2

I've no doubt in my mind that Motorola will release a Moto G2 sometime late next year, because of the success of the Moto G.
But what improvement would you like to see, while still keeping the cost down.
I think 4G/LTE could easily be an option next year, but what else?
camera improvements maybe
Colour led, better camera, more RAM, (faster processor) are the main things for me.
All of the above with the same 720p screen and 32GB at $200
Sent from my XT1032 using Tapatalk
2gb RAM or at least 1.5gb, a better processor, maybe The X8 chip... A better camera (8mpx), 4G
But if you ask me ill take the better CPU/GPU/RAM then a better camera or a 1080p screen so they can keep the $200 price tag, 720p its more than enough for smartphones as long as the screen has a good quality... 1080p its already way too much and nos LG wants a 2k screen lol

To keep the cost of the device the same i would like to see a few minor improvements to the current G like 4G, 1.5 to 2gb ram, better camera megapixels don't matter.
Sent from my beautiful Lumia 1020 using Tapatalk
My guesses:
RGB Led
8mp Camera
Either an older Snap 600/S4 Pro (think Nexus 7) or a new, yet unannounced Snap 400 with maybe a new low end GPU (Adreno 307, if you will)
1GB RAM, maybe faster DDR3L
8 and 16GB
Slightly bigger battery, maybe 2.2Ah
Tweaked 720p IPS display
Tweaked design - slightly thinner, slightly lighter
Expecting more than this is setting yourself up for disappointment, IMO.
If I were Moto, I'd keep the first gen G and X around, drop the G to $99 or $79, give the G2 LTE and put it starting at $179, drop the X to $279 and release the new X as a true flagship. You get all the price ranges covered with nice phones and, if kept with the same design and basic layout, without much need for retooling.
Lets just enjoy this awesome phone and worry about the 2nd version later...
Maybe X4 or X6 chip? (Since low end processors dont come with quad core GPU I'm thinking)
Gyrosensor & More Space
4.5 or 4.7" 720p display no need to change this I think.
4G/LTE should be cheap enough to have on midrange phones in 2014
Better camera 8mp BIS Sony Sensor
1080p video, the current snapdragon 400 has 1080p support but wasn't implemented in the Moto G for some reason, maybe because the lack of space with the 8GB version.
New snapdragon processor maybe the 405 clocked at 1.5Ghz with better gpu.
2GB of ram will trickle down to midrange phones in 2014, as the top end smartphones move onto 3GB & 4GB.
Slimmer design.
Colour options.
RGB notification led.
8GB storage dropped in favor of both 16GB & 32GB, should be cheap enough in 2014.
If all the above was to be the case for the Moto G2 for next year, it probably be even bigger seller than the current Moto G is now.
The 4G will depende con how things go in the world in the next months, A LOT of countries doesnt even have 4G un the works, and some of them are just starting to embrace it
I dont think a X8 CPU its really out of the realm of possibilities, obviously not The same one as the MotoX one, but a low-end one...
Bigger storage should be a thing, 16/32gb.

ok, so you basically want the g2 to be a moto X LOL.. so no, this won't happen.
a 1080p screen IS a 2k screen. the 'k' monika refers to the horizontal not vertical resolution. hence 1080, by 1920 (2k). 720 is about 1.2k.
The truth is, the margin on the Moto G is about 20%, this is so much lower than any other phone manufacturer that any improvements will be added basically at 'cost' therefore, any meaningful spec upgrade leads to a big price price rise (relatively speaking).
I would like the same phone, a year newer CPU and GPU, slightly bigger battery, 4G and improved build quality, 10% price rise. This is at least doable.
Better camera/video
Gyroscope
32 GB version
Same price 180/200/240 (8/16/32)
Sligthly more rubberized shell for better grip
Keep the rest, it's already a great phone.
For me all I'd like to see for a 'G2' is:
4.7" 720p screen
LTE
8MP Camera
1.5 or 2GB RAM
The Moto G2 will be inspired by Motorola's next year flagship, but weaker.
I could see the Moto G2 with a quad core chip, a better gpu, and 1080p screen, LTE, 4.7" screen, 2gb ram, and MAYBE 8MP camera
moto G was created to be a cheap phone with mid-highend specs. You guys want moto x specs on a 200$ phone? Forget about it. Go and buy a moto x

To be fair 5 years ago a low end phone was considered to be 256 MB of ram and a 600 MHz single core processor with a 3 inch screen and would cost the same as the moto g does today. As time goes on technology standards go up.
But I do agree some people in this thread are asking for way too much even for today's standards. If you want modern flagship specs get a modern flagship phone.

I would not be surprised to see next year's Moto G to be pretty close to the current Moto X. Maybe they change a few components to lower the price but in a year's time, the cost of most of those components will probably be down as well.

Why not just buy the moto x when the moto x2 comes out then? I guarantee it will drop in price.

[Q] Finding a flagship phone that's not massive

I'm trying to find a phone that suits my needs, but it's proved difficult.
Currently I have a Galaxy SIII GSM phone.
I'd like a newer phone that's of similar size, 4.7 - 5.1 in or so, nothing remotely close to a Note3 in size. Also 2gb+ of RAM is mandatory, 1gb phones have all been ridiculously slow regardless of CPU. And rootable so I can install CM11+ on it.
Any suggestions?

All the current flagships "phones". are 5.0-5.2". I say "phones" because I'm not including phablets like the Note or One Plus One or LG G3, HTC One M8 is 5.0", but is a pretty large phone because of the front speakers, ditto the 5.2" Sony Z2. The G2 is small for its 5.2" screen, and the smallest flagship, without going too far down in specs, is the Nexus 5. Smaller than that, and you're going to be compromising on processors. The Moto X has a 4.7" screen, as does the HTC One M7, but the specs aren't the latest or even the second latest. 2GB of RAM on each though, and both do run smooth and snappy. The Moto X is very compact despite the 4.7" screen.
The one exception to this is the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact. It has the same internals as the full size Z1 (Snapdragon 800 2.2GHz, 2GB RAM), but in a smaller size with a 4.3" screen. Personally though, I'd wait a month or two for the Z3 Compact (they skipped the Z2), which'll have the same height and width (but be a bit thinner) yet pack a bigger 4.6" screen. And front facing speakers and it's waterproof. One hell of a phone.

moto g (2nd) vs Elephone P6000

I'm looking to buy a new device for me mum, which would you say is better?
both 5 inch HD screens. I would of easily gone with the moto g if it had 2gb ram. but the 1gb ram really puts me off. is there a similar phone as the moto g but with 2gb ram?
I can get the p6000 for £101 delivered.
Well, does your mum care software updates? If he cares, get Moto g. If not, i would pick p6000

Snapdragon usually means more battery efficient. Even with half the RAM, I think the Moto G (2nd Gen) is overall a more reliable and better quality product.
elephone p6000 screen glitches...
the elephone might seem a great steal for the first sight, i mean 4g lte, 2gb ram, 64-bit quad core and a 13mp camera.... but i would suggest a quick visit to their forums to know whats up as it has some unsmooth scrolling issues and no otg support plus e-compass glitches makes it an overall unreliable package, moto provides quality other chinese oems cant provide my friend.

yep, i've read on that, but the p6000 is one of the only chinese devices that have the stock google look. and i've read on how to fix the smooth scrolling issues. otg is not required, and the compass likewise. me mam just mainly uses phone to call, a lot of whatsapp with her friends (hence extra storage is needed) and watching videos. she doesn't browse much. and uses viber/skype/hangouts (those types of apps) nothing much else.
cubot x9!

ok i get ur point, btw check out a phone called cubot x9... it's an iphone 6 clone coming in at 6.9 mm a 8mp camera (interpolated to 13mp) and an 5mp front camera (8mp interpolated). If u wouldn't mind giving up on 4g then thats a good solid phone. i wanted to get it hence my moto g got hard bricked but i decided to just wait for the fix.

nope don't like the cpu, not good enough in my opinion. I've decided to scrap those two, and go for either a used galaxy s4 then flash the google play edition or get the zte blade s6 brand new from amazon for 170. the zte has snapdragon 615 and lollipop. would it be better to go for that?

ZTE Blade S6 is £160 here. There is no Gorilla Glass, but it looks like you need a case for this phone anyway since the actual house is fairly shoddy.

Possible new phone advice

I have been using this phone for 3 years now and think it is time to move on. I have been given a good deal on a moto g 4g and wondered if anyone can think of a reason not to move. It's a similar spec phone with quad core instead of dual. Has a smaller camera tho.
Any advice would be appreciated.

I have the One (M7) for a year now and I have to say for a 2 year old phone, it really holds it's build quality. The speakers are amazing, the screen is crystal clear and it has Lollipop + Sense 6. We won't get Sense 7 officially but I'm 100% sure we will get a very functional port of Sense 7. The only downside is the camera. If your not too concerned about that then I think you should go for it. If not, I would suggest the Moto G (2014) or the Sony Xperia Z1/Z3 Compact, you can't go wrong with any of them
If you really liked you One S, you can go to something similar like the M8, or if you can wait for a couple of days, get your hands on the new HTC One M9.
One good reason to wait: wait for a real new ARM64 phone. The Moto G 4G (2014) is still a SnapDragon 400 with Krait cores I believe, so nothing really new from our One S.
I would wait for a cheap Motorola with ARM64 cores for less than 200$.

We already have a thread talk about this.
Moto G 4G is real a very bad choice, only a 4.5" 720P, S400, 1G ram, 8GB rom(though with microSD slot). Nothing real better and camera is a downgrade to 5MP.
I'm still using One S as a spare phone and upgraded to Sony Z1 Compact since last year. If budget is a major concern, you should get Z1c because it is cheap now should only a bit expensive than Moto G 4G but with a hardware much much better(4.3" 720P, S800, 2G ram, 16GB, microSD, LTE, 20MP camera, IPX67, 2300mah). Lollipop got delayed but will arrive on this phone probably around May/June.
But since now I've two small phones, I think it's too many. I'm going to sell out Z1c and upgrade again in April/May sometimes and give Galaxy S6 a try because the phone is quite small and slim this time to the 5.1" size.
If you have more money then get Sony Z3 Compact with bigger screen(4.6" but still same size with Z1c and One S), battery life and camera is even more better. If you can wait for like half year, Z4c will probably out on Sep.
I have used one S for 3 years too.
It's my first android phone, and I have a good time with it.
A lot of great developers have worked on this phone, they become a story!
I think Oneplus ONE is a great phone.
HTC M9 is great too!
3 years here also
i want to move to the new phone too. thinkng about new nexus or wait for the new LG
I'm going to buy a new phone in my summer vacation......Probably OnePlus
