I just got an OPO a few days ago it didn't exactly blew me away. The very first thing I did was install Facebook and Tapatalk to check on scrolling performance (nothing else touched), and surprisingly scrolling was quite jerky, even more so when scrolling through a thread in Tapatalk. I don't know why this happens, I expected it to be extremely smooth for the specs it has.
My Nexus 4 on the other hand has optimized bionic/dalvik libraries and franco kernel so maybe these two are boosting my Nexus 4 quite substantially. I still however get jerky scrolling in Facebook/Tapatalk.
Even so, it doesn't make much sense, my Nexus 4 scored a 21,216 in Antutu, whereas my OPO scored a 38,217 - big difference here but it isn't reflected in real world usage. I swear my Nexus 4 is opening things quicker when I have both phones side-by-side doing the same actions, Nexus 4 is opening things such as Battery Usage or Settings marginally quicker than my OPO.
The next thing I did was enable ART on my OPO and the jerky scrolling was eliminated. I would like to stick with ART but I'm dependant on Xposed framework somewhat.
Most people here seem happy with the OPO in other areas apart from the yellow tint and touchscreen issues, but none have commented on its performance, oddly. Is this because everyone switched to ART once they got theirs? I would have assumed most owners to be using out of the box settings, that is, Dalvik included.
What has your OPO performance been like? Are you satisfied with it?
You could try using Franco kernel if you're remaining on stock 11S and then use dalvik. I prefer art because it'll be the default in Android L anyways. I don't have any stutters or lag.
It's not opo that's the problem, it's the app. It's known that those app and sure problems, try forcing gpu rendering, it could help with lag on Tapatalk if you experience any.

Exactly. No matter how powerful a device is there's a limit on how much you can fix by brute force only.
Plus any Nexus 4/5 is going to be as smooth as you can get in Android.
The battery life alone is a world of difference.
Hiya.
I'm trying to replace my Galaxy S4 LTE with another phone with stock Android but with better overall performance. My next choice is the Nexus 5. Had one late last year but because of an "immature" OS i sold it. Now, with Android 4.4.4 i'd like to try it again. But, heard of issues after the release of 4.4.4 like:
1. Battery life now worse (and unpredictable) than before
2. Wifi & network disconnections issue
3. Slow auto-focus when taking shot
4. Weak/tinny speakers sound (which might be down to hardware problems which i don't know)
5. Screen multitouch issues
Is this all true or only for a minority? And do we even know if Google is actually listening or is aware of some if not all of these reported problems?
Please advice. Thanks.
I have updated and have none of the issues you mentioned I love my nexus 5. Stock or custom ROM.
And if people report these issues to google they listen unlike some other OEMS

1. i see 5 hours screen on time every single day. battery life is about how you personally use a device, how you set it up, what apps you use, and very much your phone/data signal quality. its like that for any device, even an iphone. the way some people use it, and their signal quality, they will never see over 3 hours sot. the way others use it, they see closer to 6 hours sot. there is no such thing about having standards for how long your battery should last, as we all use our devices differently, and live in different areas with differing qualities of signals.
2. no issues here.
3. i love the nexus 5 camera!

4. ok, the speakers arent the loudest. there are some mods/apps that will help, but the speaker can be a little better.
5. thats the first time ive ever heard of such a thing, the nexus 5 does not have any touchscreen issues.
no matter what you buy, whatever device, there will always be a minority that complains. sometimes they complain about real issues, but many times the issues only in their heads.
Simms22...I don't know how you managed to take those photos but they look amazing. Any special settings you used? Where you using a stock Android 4.4.4 on the N5?
As i'm not into modding or rooting is there any app you can recommend in helping boost one'e Nexus 5 speakers? (I have heard some issues are caused by glue sticking out or spreading thru the speakers grill from inside which are fixed by sticking a needle into them. Is that even safe to do? Lol.)
Comparing the Nexus 5 with my current Galaxy S4 (with 4.4.2) albeit the 8MP camera and low-battery capacity the Nexus 5 do come out on top. The S4 has a higher (and longer) battery life but what i hate about the Samsung phone is the bloateware (i.e. Samsung's own apps) of which most of them apart from Galaxy apps i have disabled or turned of notifications).
I know discussing battery life is useless because its very subjective and depends on one's usage & circumstances. I usually use GSMArena and Versus in comparing two devices: specs, battery life, etc. What i would say is i work 8 hours a day. Most of the time i live and work in a "moderate to very good" 4G area which doesn't require wifi (which i think does drain battery albeit slowly). The only notifications i have is my Gmail, Twitter, Instagram, SMS messaging and Whatsapp. That's it. I make sure Sync, Location services (if its turned on it is set to Battery saving due to the nature of my work or the app i use), NFC, Wifi, Bluetooth and anything else is turned off. Anything i missed there?
Would a 2300mAh battery of the Nexus 5 be better than a 2600mAh of an S4? Surely the higher the number the better with everything turned off? Or would having a vanilla OS compensate for the low battery capacity and end up being better?
Does a battery-saving /RAM-optimising app help in improving the battery life (and performance) of the Nexus 5?
Please help.
While the speakers aren't good but software won't make them good battery life is bad on stock if you go to a custom ROM you get great battery life and most of Google's bugs are gone so yeah if you get one you might want to put a custom ROM on it

ive been taking and posting nexus images since the n1 first came out, day two. and daily, i post nexus photos on g+(thousands and thousands now, from all the different nexus)
theres a fine line when it comes to macros. if you cross that line, your photos start going out of focus. behind the line its easy to focus on, and right on that line youll take the best macros. find that line between in focus and too close(out of focus). also, i do not ever zoom. i take the shot in full, and crop it as i like it. if you zoom, you get no choice in how you want the overall image to appear. youll need proper lighting for macros, sunlight or flash, as typical room lighting isnt enough. oh, and when editing, do not over edit. if you edit it too much, it looks fake. if you want to edit, edit in small percentages. the n4 actually takes slightly closer macros, but the n5 macros look and feel more natural.
really, its just the difference between someone that has been using a manual camera, and setting all up manually, and someone that just points and clicks. im 43 now, been shooting photos since junior high school, always adjusting manually, and i used to develop my own film. but this is why i say the n5 has a great camera if you know how to use a camera, but as a point and click camera its not that great. but it will get better, google has added much new code to it and its app for when L comes officially, and after.

viper4android is great for sound, but needs root.and the nexus 5 real volume booster app for all other sound but music, but need a custom recovery to flash.
the n5 has code in it that makes it more efficient on battery, so the 2300 battery sizecis fine. oh, and battery saving apps use battery, stay away from them.

Nexus 5 battery is smaller but the SoC and LCD are more efficient. S801 and S805 phones are even better now.

For anyone who have experienced it Is it true that the Nexus 5 speakers are actually better (slightly louder) than the Galaxy S4?
Talking about the multitasking tab (on the three capacitive buttons) with the Sony and Samsung Android handsets they have the option to "cancel all" tabs/windows that are running in the background. With the Nexus 5 you have to swipe them one by one. Is there an app to add that same functionality as Sony or Samsung to cancel all tabs & windows?
Any good 3rd-party music player that support Flac, customisable EQ settings, etc.? I'm looking for a music player that enables me to Pause, Forward & Back functions when i'm on my lock screen.
Please advice.

The Nexus 5's own music player (via Google Play Music app) i find uninspiring and has poor presets sounds and equalisers. Any good music player you guys can recommend?
Going back to the speakers is it safe to use a sharp object like a needle to "poke" thru the speaker grills to remove any excess glue that are present in the production as i heard that might be the cause of the slightly tinny/muffled speakers sound?

Complete fabrication. Speakers sound tinny and muffled because they're crap, cheap speakers. No other reason,

Hi guys, I have a problem with my OnePlus One: It seems there's graphic performance issues, either caused by the Lollipop ROM I'm using (Temasek's CM12), or my phone is faulty?! (1+1 64GB, using f2fs partitions).
For example, here's some benchmarks (3DMark) comparing my Note 3 (CM11 latest nightly + leanKernel) to my OnePlus One (Temasek's CM12 2.8 + AK 0.50):
Left: Note 3 / Right: One
Any idea what's going on? Someone would be kind enough to run a 3DMark test on their device, to see if it's a normal behavior with Lollipop to cause lower graphic performance, or a problem with my device, please?
Oh by the way, I know benchmarks don't always reflect the day-to-day usage experience, but the fact that games run a lot smoother and are more fluid on my Note 3 than on my One made be investigate further. I can objectively notice a graphic performance problem on the One with this ROM/Lollipop, that is theoretically more powerful than my Note 3. The next step is to reinstall the stock KitKat ROM on my One I guess, to see what's going on.
Thanks
How come my old HTC desire HD phone running gingerbread gets better battery life on airplane mode than my Nexus 5 running KITkat on airplane mode ? Is that normal ?

Well, it depends what you call "better battery life". How much time did you get on both phones ?
This said, you're not in the good section, you should have asked this in Q&A
Because it's a 1ghz single core phone?

My guide to checking which phone uses more battery than the others :
- CPU cores / threads, how much core does both phone have ? Lesser the core, lesser battery consumption. Add a point for every cores the phone have.
- CPU frequency / clock, does both phone clocks in at the same frequency ? Lesser the frequency, lesser the battery consumption. Add a point per GHz, so 1 GHz is equal as one point.
- GPU clock, does both phone have equal clock / frequency ? Lesser the frequency, lesser the battery consumption. Add a two point if the phone have superior GPU frequency.
- Screen (overall screen size), does both phone have an equal screen size ? Although this doesn't matter much, add a point if the phone have a larger screen.
- Screen, does both phone have an equal resolution ? If so, does the screen have an equal screen size ? If both points are true, smaller the screen and resolution, the lesser the battery consumption. This is one primary factor of battery drain. Add four points if a phone have a resolution more than HD (1280 x 720p), and two points if it's lesser than that.
- Device sensors, does one phone have a sensor and the other don't ? Add a point for every sensor you found, use a sensor detector app to check this.
- Operating system, does one phone have a superior operating system version ? Add a point if a phone have a superior OS version.
Sum all of those value, and compare it. The lesser the value, means the phone is either worse in terms of features, it performs worse than the others, but good thing it has a better battery !
Larger the value means the phone is full of features, and have a powerful pack of hardware, able to push more pixels. This at the cost of battery life.
I have recently seen an article talking about battery mode which could change from QHD to FHD to HD. Is there a way S6 has similar option
yes in note 7 port for s6. but it s not worth.
It wont save you any battery..also speed will be the same.
So it s another useless feature by samsung
I already tested it.

thats not fault from samsung or useless feature but note 7 port itself has bad battery life
It has bad battery life but changing to hd dsnt improve it a bit
Before S6 I had LG G3 and remeber that some user changed resolution from QHD to FHD and made battery test.
Test shows that FHD resolution gave 10 minutes of SOT more.
Better keep QHD.
